My husband and I love this place for home cooked hearty meals. I love that I can get breakfast anytime of the day. This place is always packed with people especially on the weekends so chances are you may have to wait for seating, it's worth it. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with a side of pancakes. The servings are huge so I took some home. You can see by the pictures. The servers are very friendly and positive. You can tell by the long lines on weekends just how good this place is. It's the old fashioned Cafe that used to be the center of every town. The place everyone goes for breakfast or lunch...you know..the Seinfeld -esque diner. The portions are huge, the prices are reasonable, and.the coffee is never ending. I think it's owned by a colorful Russian family that seriously get the job done and done well and quickly. They are not messing around! When all the trendy spots you are trying to get into have long waiting lines....get real and get over here too get some real good, real food and quickly. And your wallet will thank you. This place is amazing, great hardworking staff, the food comes out quick and is delicious, and has the great feel of an old diner.

I enjoyed my meal here, especially the breakfast potatoes. I wasn't especially pleased with the biscuits and gravy. They tasted ok, but it seems like they just put hot gravy over a cold biscuit, because they were not warm, nor soft, when served. Other than that I would still recommend this place. The Southside grill is one of my families staples! We love coming here when we're in Anchorage. A small place with a real family own/run feeling. Every time we come, even when it's busy, we always receive a friendly greeting. Service is friendly, quick, and food is delicious. I love the hot turkey sandwich and tuna melt for lunch (both of which come with soup and fries), but it's hard to pick a favorite for breakfast. The waffles are amazing, pancakes are fluffy, and if you order crunchy bacon, it actually comes crunchy. This time I tried the pigs in a blanket, which was delicious. We had two of the best items in town today for a late lunch/early dinner. I had liver and onions with mashed potatoes-definitely home made mashers and the liver was perfectly cooked and both large slices were fork tender, and the accompanying salad was fresh crisp bright romaine with tasty croutons, cuke slices and a wedge of tomato. The blue cheese dressing on the side is thick enough to stand a spoon in--very rich and tasty. Overall probably the best liver and onions in town. My wife had her favorite--the French Dip sandwich. It comes with more than plentiful sliced roast beef and an au jus that you could just drink it is so flavorful. And the French fries are unique--nicely battered and cooked to perfection and served piping hot. Our server was spot on --keeping the coffee cups full and checking in periodically without being obtrusive. Good job all around. My only issue is they close at 3:00 p.m.--so PLAN AHEAD. We love breakfast! Great choices. We got the Hungry Man breakfast. The biscuits and gravy is at the top of my list. The service was fast and the server was very nice. It has a diner feel and look. Just expect to pay more for meals in Alaska, that's just the way it is. For two we spent over $30.00 before tip. We would definitely return. The bathroom is clean. Great place for a BIG breakfast or lunch. Not exactly keto friendly menu but if you want something early in the day that will last all day, this is your place. Lots of staff milling about so you won't be ignored. They're all friendly and helpful. We like the skillets for breakfast. The Philly cheese steaks are great too for lunch. Beware your younger family members ordering a breakfast that comes with pancakes on the side. It's a huge amount of food! My family is much more prone to cook up an extravagant breakfast at home on the weekends than go out, but when we do venture out, it's almost always to SSG. I'm still a big fan of the skillets... A catch-all dish with meat, veg, eggs, and potatoes all-in-one. The kids still love the French Toast combo meal. Decor is classic diner style (not fun or retro or intentional kitsch, it just is). We eat here semi-regularly. All of the food has always been good and the service friendly and quick. I usually get the eggs benedict with home fries. Not the best I've ever eaten, but very good. My husband prefers the pancakes, eggs, sausage or bacon combo. The staff is always warm and welcoming and once you've been there a few times, they will recognize you and give you a few extra oats on the back or candies for the kids. I almost always order the Denver Omelette for breakfast and end up taking half of it back home for the next day. (Don't tell the owners). My kids love the French Toast and the pancakes; the kids are teenagers, they eat constantly.
