I have been here a few times and I will offer a cumulative review of my ~4 visits. I have ordered a plain, a vanilla, an horchata, and a banana dread latte all with oatmilk half sweet and about 2 matchas. I cannot give a review on the food and pastries offered because I have not tried them. However, the drinks are delicious. They are not out of this world BUT hear me out, the fact they have seasonal and rotating drink flavors really does it to push them to the "I am not another coffee shop" group. So, I would suggest you try a few flavors and I keep going back because I know they will have a different selection of flavors. The service is 100/100. The workers are patient, they explain everything well, they offer advice and talk about their selections, they chit chat with you and theyre just authentic. Love it. No bad faces no "what do you want what favor do you need" attitude like other coffee shops. That being said, the only thing that was like woah, is that on ONE visit when I asked for the ingredients (I don't enjoy the spiciness of cardamom and wanted to know if it was in the banana bread latte), they did not have the list of them. I think they need to contact their supplier and figure that out. Ambience is great. I always walk so parking is not an issue for me but I will say, it is so close to TJ that while your partner is shopping you can walk and grad yourselves some lattes. They have a free little library inside and plenty of seating. I don't know if they have outlets of wifi but I assume that they do since I see people on laptops there often. Overall I think this cafe deserves more traffic, more attention, more recognition. read more

Not often do I find nitro cold brew on tap at coffee shops, but I was surprised to find it here for a good price of $5. Definitely strong which was what I wanted. They sell their own beans here which I found neat as well. Service was quick on a Friday afternoon. read more

A cute little coffee shop near Polk Gulch! You can order online for quick and easy pickup. I like their lavender and horchata lattes. They have good seasonal or special lattes. They also have good sandwiches and baked goods. The Deluxe Breakfast sandwich was cheesy, meaty goodness--also loved the bread (and they included more vegetables than most breakfast sandwiches I've had, so that's always a plus!) Service is great and they have cute merch! They have another location in Berkeley as well. read more

This is my second time coming to Souvenir Coffee and it's still such a nice little spot. The inside is super aesthetic, cozy, and there's usually seats available--perfect vibe for a chill break. The first time I got the lavender iced latte, and it was alright... kinda milky and not enough lavender. This time I tried the Vietnamese iced coffee and same deal--just okay. I like my coffee strong, and theirs feels a bit too light for me. Service is always friendly though, and the space itself is really cute. It's also in a good area--super close to my work so I just walk. Wouldn't really recommend driving here though unless you like hunting for parking. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would, but I'll round up to 4. Might try a different drink next time! read more

The Vietnamese coffee is bad. Where is the condensed milk? They made the worst grilled cheese I have ever purchased in my life. Not sure what went wrong but half of the cheese was unmelted and the top piece of bread wasn't attached at all. I am now cooking it on my stove to try and salvage it. Delicious coffee with a nice ambience. I wish there was more indoor seating though and that the music was a little quieter for those that sit to read/do work. I stayed in the area a couple of months back and as someone who likes to start my day with a cup of coffee, I used my trustworthy Yelp app to see what was nearby. Souvenir Coffee was first on the list and was ~.25 mile walk from my hotel so off I went. Upon arriving, I was encouraged to see the place was bustling. In addition to others waiting to order, there were people sitting inside and outside enjoying their beverages and/or food items. Although there was a bit of a line, it moved quickly (way faster than what happens at most Starbuck locations). The staff was super friendly and very engaging. It was if they thoroughly enjoyed what they do (what a novel concept). Now that I think back, this is very fitting considering their motto is "People First, Then Coffee". Also, as it says on their website: "For us at Souvenir, great coffee means three things: community, quality, and care. We craft premium, small batch roasted coffee for people who enjoy taking a moment with a cup." Based on my visits, they live up to all of this and then some. As someone who prefers a cup of drip coffee, I was very pleased with their brew. Per my usual, I went a light brew and when I visited, they were serving their Rwanda Coko Kula coffee. It was both tasty and provided the caffeine boost I wanted. In addition to selling beverages and food, they have Souvenir branded merchandise available for purchase. Also, on their website, bags of the coffee they serve are available for purchase (whole bean only). I look forward to visiting Souvenir again when I am in the area. read more

Drinks: Brown Sugar Sage Latte with Oat Milk (4/5): classic latte with a touch of sweetness from the brown sugar (not too sweet though). I could sense a very subtle herbiness which I assumed was the sage; however, it was masked by the rest of the drink leading to a very normal latte taste (wish it was more unique) I came here on a pretty chilly SF afternoon, looking for a hot coffee to warm me up. The cafe is cozy with a decent amount of seating. They have a wide selection of beans they roast. Moreover, I thought it was cool they had a 50% discount for beans that were not as freshly roasted. Their specialty drink menu has some interesting flavors and will definitely have to drop by to try some of their other drinks. read more

Oh my, I almost missed this one. It's a bit hidden for us non-Nobbies as it's on Larkin near California on Nob Hill. I came upon it only because I was taking a walk from Francisco Park and recognized the place like an old friend. OK, almost like an old friend. I never phone. I never write. But I've been to a couple of East Bay spots before, one on Solano in Albany and the other near Swan's Market in Old Oakland. Love supporting small businesses. I met a friend for coffee. It was a rainy day and it was nice to share a cup of coffee and hot chocolate. Service was quick and efficient. The ambiance is cute and intimate. Only negative is that it's difficult to have a conversation as everyone else in the coffee shop was talking so loud that I waited a bit when having my conversation. There were 3 ladies enjoying their conversations and a woman by herself talking to someone loud enough that we could hear her conversation. A bit awkward when we were trying to talk in a lower volume. read more

This place is cool! I don't go too often but when I do, I always get the Vietnamese iced coffee. I'm more of a cold brew person but they only serve nitro cold brew which I don't like as much. In general, it feels like their menu is pretty limited. I do like the vibes inside with some nice artwork and plants. The staff is always very friendly and quick too. Very quaint coffee shop located right off Van Ness! Came here looking for some caffeine before my touristy excursions, and figured what better way than get my coffee at a place called Souvenir. I ordered a hot mocha. My family had drip coffee, banana bread and a scone. The mocha itself was pleasant! Not too sweet, I do wish the chocolate flavor was a bit more prominent. The banana bread was good but the scone was absolutely delicious. Buttery, soft, with some dried fruit strewn about. I would've gotten one for later, but would have immediately eaten it anyways... Overall, if you're residing temporarily in the Van Ness area, would definitely give Souvenir a try! read more

I really wanted to like this place. I had been coming to the area once a week and this is the closest coffee shop. The guy that's been behind the counter is super friendly and nice and efficient. However the women working there are another story. They don't say hi or pretend to notice when you come in. One of them just winces her face as she nods in minimal acknowledgement looking like it's impossible for her to smile as she hands you your warmed up pastry. A few weeks ago I saw female worker struggling to peel garlic as she failed to acknowledge me as I stood at the counter ready to order and the male barista who was busting his ass, eventually said hi. And, then took my order once he was free. Well anyway the woman knocked some garlic on the floor. She then picked the garlic pieces up dragging her hands across the floor to pick them up and throw them away. She then proceeds to handle and peel garlic WITHOUT Washing her hands. Plucking the pieces of raw garlic into the blender with what appeared to be olive oil to make a blended spread of some sort freshly seasoned with floor bugs. Well I decided not to ever order anything from her or prepared food from this cafe. At any rate today I stopped in for about the 8th week in row. I ordered the usual hot latte and heated croissant (hoping who ever stocked the sleds had clean hands and the oven killed any bugs). Well I got the same winced facial expression as I was handed my hot pastry along with the worlds most luke warm latte. Well I just left and warmed up my latte an hour later when I got home. Never will I set foot in this place again. Such bad energy and workers that don't wash their hands when they touch the floor. read more

Not sure if I had an atypical experience or if the Vietnamese coffee isn't their specialty. I LOVE how strong and flavorful Vietnamese coffee is, and this unfortunately wasn't it. It tasted watery like drip coffee, and didn't have the sweetness from condensed milk. A welcome return for highly proficient coffee at this location. Soft opening mode for now, apparently 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. only for the time being, but when I wandered by on Sunday morning they were there with the hot cups of brewed coffee I needed. Outgoing, friendly barrista who clearly believes in the product and is excited by his company's recent entry into San Francisco in multiple locations. They had two options for brewed drip coffee, and I went with the Bali Blend, a lighter roast that showed off some pungent but not overpowering acidity. No doubt the espresso machine will get a workout on future visits. A few small tables already out front as it appears the indoors is for the moment off-limits. This is the old Nob Hill location of Contraband, which was lovely in its own right in its day. Either way, it's a fantastic if relatively small space with giant windows and a decent layout, and a very welcome addition back to the neighborhood as life gets rolling again.
