What a waste of money and time. Who wants to pay $18 for ONE drink that disappointingly doesn't come out in the moving robot (which is the whole point of this new place) because "the robots are down" and then for a cockroach to come running across the floor? I have never encountered a cockroach in a restaurant/bar at this price point $$$. Are we in NYC? No babe, this is Austin. And then for no compensation to be offered for a cockroach? And for the chef to roll his eyes that there was a cockroach as if it's happened before... And when we brought up our poor experience to the manager he inappropriately offered for us to go to his apartment. Do better. No bar/restaurant that charges $18 for a drink and $24 for a small plate would ever have this lack of customer service yet alone a cockroach in the first place. Not him asking for no more 1 star reviews... Additionally our waiter/server was socially awkward and did not come to check on us until we were done. Food was mid and cold, and not enough food at all. With any new opening I expect hiccups or quirks to be worked out along the way. I happened to see this place on Instagram and thought it looked fun so was able to get a 7p reservation on a Saturday. First let me say they have their own parking lot which on the east side or any area remotely close to downtown you can't find. We waited a few mins upon entering and confirming our reservation. Seated quickly and explained the process. The decor is to remind you of an Area 51 vibe and it's cheesy but cute. The robot bringing your food and cocktails is the coolest thing. We decided to be adventurous and tried quite a few things off the menu. We had the space balls, beef tartar, rice crisps, Singapore skewers, and cowgirl cut. Hands down most delicious was the cowgirl cut dish, second was beef tartar, space balls, and a toss up between the rice crisps and skewers. The scallop wrapped in bacon I could barely get down, it was not my cup of tea but the plus one liked it well enough. On the rice crisps my plus one was not a fan of the tuna as there was not any flavor to it. Otherwise everything was very tasty. We had two cocktails, the dark matter and the tuxedo cowboy. I was shocked when the tuxedo cowboy came to the table w a garnish of a candied pecan touching the cherry. My plus one has a tree nut allergy and that was not disclosed to us or on the menu but luckily I picked it out and it had not touched the drink yet. The drinks were great and overall it was a fun experience. Our waiter was excellent and told us they had only been open for 6 days so hopefully as time goes on they only get better! read more

The rest were brought over by various people. The decorations feel like they ran out of money. They need a glass wall to partition off the kitchen and a little more on the decor side to make it feel less empty. The service was great and they were trying their best. The food was decent - no stand outs in my mind. My friend and I wanted to try Space Cowboy for ourselves because the restaurant had mixed reviews but looked very cool. We walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night and had to wait a little over an hour, but we were expecting that. Our waiter was very good as he spent a lot of time answering our questions as we were looking over the menu. For drinks, they were delivered on the robot which was so fun. We ordered the Venus Seduction, Alien Blood, and Cowboy Del Lune. The Cowboy Del Lune was the least sweet out of the three. All of them were strong, but tasted very good. The mix of flavors were unlike anything I have tried before. For food, we ordered the torched rice crisps, farm house fries, space balls, and the cowgirl cut. Only the fries came delivered by the robot and the rest were brought out by the waiter. I liked the salmon and beef torched rice crisps best, but the tuna lacked flavor to it. The farm house fries were very delicious. I really liked the tuna space ball mixed with the dill more than the salmon ball. The cowgirl cut was good, but in my opinion nothing special. Overall, the food was very unique tasting, however the portions are very small as it is a small tapas place and everything was overpriced. I would not suggest arriving here starving because you'll end up ordering a lot of dishes and it can get very pricey quickly. I would return here as they do change their menu up and I do want to try other drinks and food because it was so different from any other restaurant I've been to in Austin. My friend and I were visiting from out of town and were eager to visit Space Cowboy as we saw some really cool pictures and videos of this place on social media. During our visit, we had other bars and restaurants we wanted to visit, but we prioritized Space Cowboy since it looked so cool. Our waiter was nice initially and gave us some drink recommendations. He hyped up the spaceship/bots and how we can expect our food and drinks to be served in it. The drinks are quite pricey, but we went for the experience in hopes that we would get our food and beverages served in those cool looking spaceships/bots. However, that was NOT the case. We had another waiter come and he served us our drinks, and another waitress came to serve us our fries. Not many people were even at the restaurant, however, they ALL were served with those spaceships/bots. It was not fair, especially since we had told the waiter we came from out of town and were excited to get the full Space Cowboy experience. We even asked the waiter why we didn't get the full experience, especially after he talked it up so much for us, and his lame excuse was that when the restaurant is busy, the spaceship/bot can't get to everyone. Such a BS excuse. My friend and I only ordered 2 drinks and an order of fries. The people around us ordered MULTIPLE items and kept placing orders during their visit, and the spaceship/bot never missed them. We were very upset about not getting the experience we hoped to get. The waiter went from being nice to stand-off'ish as we confronted him why we didn't get the full experience. He also had the nerve to tell us "it seems like you guys are really enjoying your time here. I can see that you want to place orders for more drinks..." After not getting the full experience, we didn't even want the drinks we originally ordered. The drinks were sub-par at best, and the fries were absolutely disgusting. The waitress who served us the fries talked up the fries so much and claimed her mouth was watering as she was serving us these fries. They were not at all good. There were more seasonings and mix-ins in the fries, than the fries itself. I definitely would NOT recommend this place to others. There are far better bars in Austin than this. Spare yourself and go elsewhere. We most definitely will not be returning again. read more

Made reservations about a week ahead of time and had dinner here last night - on a Wednesday. The parking lot is small, so we had to park next door. We had fantastic service from Jared. He checked on us regularly and answered questions about food and drinks. We tried 4 cocktails and 6 plates. We were recommended about 3 plates per person and it turned out to be the perfect amount of food. Everything tasted amazing but the highlights were the Space Balls, Beef Tartar, and Torched Rice Crisps. But the sliders were also melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The garlic fries were our least favorite out of what we tried. Our favorite drinks were Life Water - very refreshing and not too sweet, Alien Blood, and Cloud 9. I would drink these all again for sure. The robots delivering drinks were cute and innovative. The ambience was serene and the decor was simple and nice. The bathrooms were clean! This place looks great from the outside and the on site parking is a huge plus. The inside looks like it was rushed and they ran out of money. They would have really benefited from professional decorators instead of whatever it is they made. The lighting from the kitchen is ridiculously bright and really ruins any feeling of being in a high end place. The prices are high for the tapas style tiny TINY portions that aren't really shareable by more than two people. Everything lacked flavor, super bland and the clearly batch made cocktails ruined any chance of those being good. You don't batch make drinks for the extremely high price they charge. The robot is cute, once you see it and you taste the food you won't ever have a reason to return. On a side note. This will make an incredible bar one day, I liked the dark walls and that existing kitchen would turn into an incredible bar space with lots of room for a dance floor. Ok. I feel bad to give this new restaurant such a bad review, but... here we go. First, the lighting is way too bright. It makes you feel like you're eating in a cafeteria, which greatly lowers the vibe. Most of the staff were friendly, but sadly our waiter was a real piece of work. So passive aggressive in every way - in his words, in the way he frustratingly rubbed his head when we simply asked a question. Just really off-putting. And lastly, the robots... the whole novelty of the restaurant is the robots... but the first one that came holding our drinks closed before we could get them all out. The waiter was yelling at us to let it go, but my friend's hand was stuck in it. No care about her hand... just that we were possibly taking the robot offline. It was a bizarre reaction, but perhaps they all had the same issue because we saw very few in the end. Instead, the rude waiter just brought us the food like any other restaurant, except it felt like a hospital cafeteria. On the plus side, the food was solid. So they just need to dim the lights, work out their tech for the robots and have a chat with staff about service, then it would be worth the $$. read more

If it's too expensive for what you'd want to pay or they can't cater to your specific dietary needs, then you should not come here. I had high expectations for this place, but it was a major letdown. The dishes are overpriced and small, giving off a pretentious vibe. The robots brought us the wrong drinks, including an alcoholic refill instead of the nonalcoholic version I originally ordered. This could have been disastrous for someone sober. Our table was too small for four people, forcing us to stack the tiny portions we had to order multiple of to get a decent meal. To top it off, a host spilled a drink on us while cleaning the table and then, just five minutes later, asked if we were ready to leave, essentially rushing us out. Adding to the disappointment, there were hardly any gluten-free options. Despite informing the server of my allergy, they tried to push a dessert that wasn't gluten-free, boasting it was "unlike any dessert you've ever had"--which is irrelevant if I can't eat it. I think for the experience this place is okay to visit once. A recent review suggested the same and I agree. Loved the food and drink menu, but the quality of the food was not great. We ordered the shishito peppers, tostadas, sliders, fries, and the land and sea skewers. You can't really go wrong with shishito peppers, and the other item I liked was the tostadas. I was really unimpressed with the quality of meat and flavors of the others. For drinks, I had the Smokehouse. Decent mezcal cocktail. Would I recommend this place to my friends? Probably not.
