I had them install tile planks in my new townhouse. I needed a portion of my granite counter top cut to a flat edge. The initial installer, not this company, left a rounded edge that was against the refrigerator leaving me with a smaller size refrigerator space. While they weren't the cheapest marble contractors, they weren't the most expensive either. The crew were professional and did a great job on refinishing our old marble floors. Great job!! Miguel came out and color matched/sealed the crack we had in our granite countertop. He also fixed multiple holes in our brick fireplace. He had to color match each brick individually, because each brick was a slightly different color. We're very happy with his work and would highly recommend this company to friends/family. read more

Honestly an overall great experience. Tom came out and did our estimate. He was very friendly and easy to work with. The installers, Raul and Victor were AMAZING. These guys are the main reason for my 5 star rating. They came exactly on time (unheard of), were very professional and did a great job. In one day, they removed the carpet, installed laminate and baseboards in ~500 square feet of my condo. This was painless. I have never worked with contractors that were so put together and professional. Whenever they came across anything that they thought needed our attention, or could be done in 1 of 2 ways, they would bring it up etc. The only issues we had during the whole process were with Floor & Decor. If I were to be nit picky, I would say my only complaint about Specialized Surfaces is that the number listed on the yelp page goes directly to a call center when no one is in the office. I would have far rather just known the office hours so I can call when they are in, instead of having to wait for a call back or having to call back anyway. read more

When we moved into our new house, we needed to have our kitchen red oak floor refinished. Tom Salazar was recommended to us and we're so happy he was. The kitchen floor and entry are beautiful and we're refinished within the time frame we were quoted. Now, 6 months later, we decided to have our outdoor deck refinished. We have a 12-year old travertine tile floor in our bathroom and shower that was badly in need of some tlc, and Specialized Surfaces made it look new. A couple years ago, a bottle of perfume was dropped and shattered, spilling perfume all over the tile. The perfume badly stained and evaporated whatever sealant the porous travertine had. We were never able to effectively clean the tile after that, and mildew stains started to show-up. We tried the strongest cleaners we thought we could use on travertine with little or no improvement. The Specialized Surfaces team made it look brand new. The job was reasonably priced, especially given the amount of time, special cleaners, equipment, and expertise needed to do the job right. After cleaning, they re-sealed the tile properly and we are happy to have our expensive travertine shower - that we thought was ruined for good - back looking clean and new. My wife and I decided to put hardwood flooring in our home. We decided to do the downstairs first, and then do the staircase and the upstairs at a later time. We initially went with another company to do our downstairs and we were not satisfied at all. The quality of work was sub-par at best, and they were late or didn't show up when they were supposed to, and they didn't do our bathroom correctly resulting in floor damage. A friend of mine recommended that I call Specialized Surfaces, and my wife and I are so grateful that we did. They fixed all of the issues from the the first install, and they completed our staircase and upstairs on time and did a fantastic job. They leveled the flooring, did incredible cuts around our staircase, and they showed up on time and completed the project on time and they cleaned up our house after every single work day. Scott (the estimator) is a pleasant guy. Tom (the owner) was professional in our email exchanges. Brandon who installed all of my bathroom tile (floors, shoebase, shower walls) was great. The work was beautiful and he cleaned up thoroughly when he was done. A+ Mike who installed all of the flooring wasn't as great. Overall B-. He asked us to sign completed project paperwork before he finished. So obviously after getting the signature he slacked off and tried to cut corners. He left a full edge of plank ends butting up against a linen closet, which were grossly uneven, exposed with no corner round to finish it off AND he tried to leave sneak away without finishing the baseboards in the hallway closet. I had to take photos of all and show Scott it wasn't finished. Mike had the gaul to tell me to "don't forget to make the payment" and told him I would not make a payment until he finished what he was hired to do. Originally he said he'd come by "in a week or two" to finish the work. When I told him that would be when I made a payment he responded "I'll be there tomorrow". He did come by the next day and rather than cut the baseboard edges so that the seams met evenly in the closet corners - he jammed two square baseboard pieces in and filled the gaps with caulking to "hide" his sloppy work. U.n.b.e.l.i.e.v.a.b.l.e. My father looked at it and agreed "Lazy". What makes it worse is that Mike did a good job having the baseboards meet at the corners of the walls so it makes it even more pronounced that he was just being lazy by not taking the same care with the small finishing pieces. My tile work is great and the floors over all do look very good - I just don't like lazy service providers that don't take pride in their own work and don't want to do it the right way - rather they think that sloppy work that's acceptable for them - should be acceptable for the paying client. read more

We just had Specialized Surfaces clean, polish and where needed, restore our travertine floors (August, 2012). In a few words...they were wonderful - here's why: 1. They came out and gave us a complete overview and estimate. 2. They told us that we could request any type of finish on the floor - all finishes would be the same price [honed (which is a smooth flat finish)/ sort of shiny/ highly polished (which is what we chose). Other contractors charged different prices for different finishes, with highly polished being the most expensive. . 3. On the day of the service, the team (2 people) did a sample clean/polish/restore to be sure that we were satisfied with their work 4. They took their time and did a great job - it took 2 full days of work . 5. They were neat and clean. 6. My dog got sick a day after they left, threw up and etched the floor (sorry for the graphic, but just so you know) and they came back and fixed what she had ruined - also turned out great. This is the 3rd time we have had our floors cleaned/polished/restored and this company was the best. I highly recommend them. read more

Let me tell you, good work and excellent prices are hard to find these days, but with these folks, my expectations weren't met at all.. They were blown away. I contacted Specialized Surfaces after being referred to by one of my buddies who also has had work done by them in the past. They came out and took some quick measurements and then it was up to me and the cost of whichever hardwood I wanted to have installed to determine what the damage would be. Tom, who owns the business assured me that it wouldn't be as bad as I had imagined. After finally picking out my flooring and setting up the appointment, the price was quite a bit more affordable and I walked out very happy. I had some questions prior to the appointment and needed to make some changes. Tom is great with his customers and you can tell he values great communication because he not only understood my needs to make these changes but was very accommodating as well. His staff is always friendly on the phone as well. The crew showed up right on time and began work on my new floors and in no time flat they had everything removed and were already prepping for the hardwood. They take pride in their work as well. Keeping the area as clean as one would with their own home. I was very impressed. I had to let Tom know also how impressed I was with his workers and from what i have read in other reviews, I didn't just get lucky, it seems to be a pattern. Once the job was done, everyone who has seen the results has been amazed and I have begun referring them to the folks at Specialized Surfaces. This company does not stand behind their work. I asked them to come out and assess the staining of my tile flooring that they were supposed to have sealed. When the salesman came out, not the owner or the workman, to let me know how they were going to repair the bad workmanship which is a result I assume from using the wrong products to seal a stone floor, they gave me a bid to redo the floor. Thus, telling me that the staining was my fault not theirs. I would never use or refer people to this company ever. Consumers beware!!! read more

Run for the hills. These guys have been the worst contractors I have ever allowed in my home. The lack of craftsmanship and concern for the quality of the job was unbelievable. When I called to have the boss come out and look at all the work that had been poorly done I was told that I was going over the job with a magnifying glass. They did come back to the house to try and correct the issues but again the lack of craftsmanship and ability made it impossible. We have hired another company to fix the shoddy work, no sense calling the people who could not do it right the first two times back for a third attempt. No one to blame but myself, I should have researched these guys better. read more

I read a poor review for this company and I think we must NOT be talking about the same guys!!! I got three highly recommended companies to provide estimates to repair and completely refinish my quarter sawn white oak floors after 14 years of wear and tear. Tom Salaar came out to do the initial estimate and must have rolled his eyes to meet such a picky person like me....my house is well maintained and I see every ding (unfortunately). I checked the Better Business Bureau and Cali I wanted perfection and I got it! They covered the chandeliers, bookcases, pantry, custom draperies,appliances and every possible area to reduce my clean up for that fine dust that gets everywhere, even with the new equipment they use. Tom sent pictures to us while we were out of town for the week to show the prep and progress. We came home to beautiful floors. Being a perfectionist, I washed the floors looking for imperfections and marked about four with blue tape. Tom sent this guy named Wilber out to make these imperfections disappear. Wilber actually mixed varied stains on a pallet and after getting the exact color right made the mark or nail head disappear.
