The actual hardwood installation by Raul and Victor was amazing. They were experts in all aspects of installation, from prep and measuring of angle cuts to finishing and cleanup afterwards. Tom was very responsive to any and all questions and concerns. This would be a five star rating if the material estimates had been more accurate. Estimate on returnable material was almost perfect, but estimate on non-returnable material was 50 percent over. Tom did credit us most of the cost after I complained. Just had a great experience. We had a kitchen backsplash that needed to be installed. Tom came out right away and quoted a competitive price. While he was their we said hey can you also quote installing a hard plank vinyl floor also in the kitchen. He was gracious enough to give us that quote as well. Again very competitive. So we scheduled the work. Day 1 Miguel came right on time and put up all the backsplash [no grout yet]. Day 2, at 8:45 am i get a text from Miguel "sorry running a little late traffic on the 5" Wow! Keeping me posted. I have never had that experience before. Even then he only arrived about 20 minutes late and he has a helper. They do the floor and finish the backsplash all in day 2. What a class act of a company. Initial estimate (by Tom, I think?) was super prompt (next day after inquiry), and comprehensive. Estimate was beyond competitive (we had some people trying to gouge us for much more with explanations that didn't quite make sense, but they charged $3900 which is more in line with we were expecting based on previous times we refinished and competitive with other estimates). They fit us in promptly within the week for our wood floor refinishing. Stain matched our wood paneling quite well. Special commendation for Jason and Spencer, the workers who did our floor. They are so incredibly professional, kind, and patient. Jason took time with my dad to patiently explain all the stains and finish options so well to us. But then they even went above and beyond. My mom dropped something and I was in the shower and unable to help her. Spencer immediately went over and helped my mom. Yesterday he also complimented her on these clay flowers she makes, and it literally made her day. So often you get contractors who are very rough around the edges, who play loud music, aren't personable, and don't take care of the house. Jason and Spencer are the exact opposite. So hardworking, take care to tape off areas that could get damaged, and literally don't take breaks. And they are just kind people which makes all the difference. This is the second time I have had Tom's team to our house to thoroughly clean and restore our tiled bathroom shower. The first time was over 4 years ago and it lasted this long! Specialized Surfaces did a fantastic job! I initially contacted Silestone to ask for suggestions on removing a stain on our kitchen counter. I was asked to send photos of the stain to them. When I did this I received the following reply:   "Review of the photos indicate that this could only be caused by a foreign/chemical substance.  Unfortunately, this appear to be permanent damaged and no cleaning solution or polishing could remove this." Miguel proved them wrong. He worked magic on our countertop and was able to remove almost all evidence of the splash of whatever it was that discolored it. I have to say this company is just amazing! My husband decided to try and sand and polish our beautiful marble island countertop 3 days before the pictures were to be taken by our realtor for the sale of our home. It ended in a disaster! He ruined our marble or at least I thought he did. I called Specialized Surfaces, talked with Edith and explained my disastrous situation, near tears. She immediately told me to send Tom, I'm assuming he's the owner, my story along with pictures. I did. He called me back within 10 minutes and after explaining my situation he rescheduled his guys to be at my house at 7 am the next day. When they showed up the next morning at 7am, more tears! I was in a pinch to get my floors refinished before the holidays and had already ripped up my carpet. The owner, Tom, came out to my home to give me an estimate and I was impressed at first with the glossy brochure and what they had promised - even if it was slightly more expensive than my other estimates. I hired them for the following week to refinish the floors and replace some wood planks that were damaged. The Monday that they were supposed to come out, two workers show up at my home 45 minutes late and have never seen the place before. The owner had sent out two random workers who didn't apologize for being late and who had no idea what the job entailed. I was showing them what we had discussed and they started saying that they couldn't do what I was asking and that Tom was their boss and sent them out to do the work and that he would not be on the job supervising. They were rude and unprofessional, and from what I gathered during our brief interaction, completely clueless. I sent them off without having them even start the job and hired one of the other guys that came out to give me an estimate and had the job done professionally and on time. The owner, Tom, called me late in the afternoon that day to see what happened but didn't even try to apologize for his employees' behavior or for sending out two workers who had no idea of what the job consisted of. Their customer service is terrible and I would not recommend using this floor refinishing service to anyone. read more

Tom and his team are excellent in every way. Tom showed up on time for our appointment to measure and quote my project: a three story home in Newport Beach with marble floors, granite, marble and stone kitchen counter tops, bathroom counters, showers, and jacuzzi tub area. Everything needed to be restored to near original condition, including a solid grout cleaning, stripping off old wax and sealers, sanding and honing, then polishing, sealing, touching up grout, and re-caulking. His original quote was very competitive with others on Yelp and Angie's that I obtained. I tried to save by going with an independent (not on Angie's or Yelp) who was referred to me by an acquaintance. The independent's work was horrible and I refused to pay him. Tom came to the rescue the same day I called him back. He also honored his original quote even though more work would be required to strip the wax and sealant recently applied by that previous independent. Tom's team was very clean and diligently protected all of the adjacent cabinets, walls and carpet. They completed the job on time and within budget (i.e., no surprises). And the quality of their work was exactly as advertised, which in fact exceeded my expectations. It's not typical for me, but I highly recommend Tom and his team. A+ for sure. PS: I agree with the reviewer from 2012. There is no way Tom and his team would act or perform in the way described by the poor review! No way. read more

Tom was clean and presented himself in a professional manner. They were the only contractor that came prepared with a folder that had a copy of there insurance and a copy of there contractors License Number. A year ago they cleaned and sealed our stone floor and yesterday they were at my house for most of the day sanding and sealing counter and bathroom stone work. The workers were on time, very polite and carefully sealed off the house and laid drop cloth over our wood floor. Our house is only a few years old so any scuffs they made would have shown up immediately. I thought the workers were very respectful of me and my house. We called Specialized Surfaces along with several other firms who engaged in the same line of work. Tom, the owner of Specialized, made a fair bid especially considering the amount of work involved. After adjusting the bid a little work started right on time and the guys worked relentlessly for 2 days. The result was amazing. The travertine had almost a mirror finish and the small grout line was as new. Not only that but the uneven portions of the floor were sanded down to an nice evenness. This company was really good about accommodating last minute timelines as I was dealing with other vendors and their timelines. When it came to the actual install work, they did not show up on the day promised (no communication); they should up the next promised date 3 hrs early; a door got jammed and I had to argue with the installer to troubleshoot the problem which turned out to be something they did during demolition. The PM on the job (Tom the owner) was clueless in his team not showing up when scheduled; he did not communicate back to me in a timely manner as he said he would; and when it came to asking for a small credit against the agreed upon install fee, he became very difficult to reason with as he was not apologetic for his teams failure to meet their schedules. He would not commit to his final offer (wanted to think about it over the weekend) and now 5 days later still no communication from him. I will not do business with his company again. read more
