From what I understand, and based on further research, it's very difficult to definitively determine that a compressor is the cause of a squealing noise without running proper tests under load and evaluating related components like the belt and tensioner. To be clear, I did decline diagnostics initially, but I was still reassured that the compressor was the issue, which didn't feel like a fully supported conclusion. I also looked into pricing, and while compressor replacements can be expensive, most estimates I found for Las Vegas are generally in the $700-$1,200 range (with some variation depending on the vehicle). That makes the $1,800 quote seem on the higher end, especially without a confirmed diagnosis. Part of me speculates if the high quote may partially due to me being a woman, however, I can't confirm this suspicion to be true.
