Incredibly warm atmosphere established through the restaurant staff and aromas of the kitchen. Cute space to catch up while eating a comfort meal. Their coconut ice cream (from Thailand) with peanuts was a refreshing conclusion.

I was hungry for Thai food, and I like to support independent restaurants in my neighborhood. Spelling Thai got the nod. It's a nice presentation, and the quality of the food is excellent. The amount of sauce is perfect in the sense that it does not overwhelm the dish. I will be back and try some of their other Thai dishes. The prices are very reasonable. I've been to Thailand, and they are known for their excellent food. This is the real deal, and it saves me a really long plane ride to get some good Thai food!

Like others have said, the owner is a gem. An added bonus is that the food is really good. I originally ordered some dishes to go, but Steve recommended that I dine in, he said the food is much tastier that way. He wasn't wrong. I pointed out some new breakfast items that they had and they look unique and fantastic. My next visit will be earlier in the day to try those dishes. He also has a fantastic collection of wine that he is excited to share. You can't go wrong with a meal here.

I just found a new Thai food spot! Friendly service, great tasting dishes and cool bistro ambiance. I had a rough day at work and decided to treat myself to dinner! Just me & me lol For my first dine-in experience, I started with the fried dumplings and the Unchan - Butterfly Pea with lime, which was a bit on the sweet side but I enjoyed it still. The dumplings were fresh and delicious - I enjoyed the dipping sauce. For my main entree I had the Crab noodle curry with a side of white rice; When I tell you it was delicious; I tell you no lies! Very flavorful curry sauce and big lump crab meat. Noodles were light and veggies were thinly sliced for an easy eat! Next time I'll try the shrimp Pad See Ew and the shrimp toast appetizer ;-$ I'll have to take my daughter to try it! This place is gonna get popular real soon! I enjoyed having the place to myself this evening after the work day I had. *There is parking in the back of the restaurant, since the street parking is tricky

It's not hard to find good food in Los Angeles, but finding good food and excellent service is the goal always. Anytime that you're dealing with the owner of the restaurant you always feel special. Everything on the menu was tasty. Food came out hot and quickly. This is definitely a new go to spot.

Thai Iced Tea (after a few gulps)

The food is an absolute staple in my neighborhood. I've been here 3 times and had the absolute most consistent service! The Thai ice tea is perfectly sweetened. Not too sweet and not too bland, just PERFECT. The cashew nut chicken is a healthy and delicious chicken vegetable dish paired with a side of white rice, it is absolutely delectable. The dining room is so cute and homie, I feel like my own parents are running the restaurant, very beautiful to see. I've also ordered this before for takeout and it is always delicious. The owner even offered a delicious coconut ice cream that has the perfect sweetness level. Not too sweet, not too bland. Really tops off the ending of a meal. Highly recommend this place!

Green Curry, Pad See Ew, green beans, and Thai Iced Te.

Overall, the green curry was delicious, but the crab fried rice was simply okay and green beans were under cooked. I did enjoy the Thai iced tea and mango sticky rice. My mom wasn't very pleased with her main entree. She really enjoyed the Thai iced tea and spring rolls though. The ambiance and decor were very nice and the servers were friendly, too.

NEW OBSESSION!!! I had the best experience ever going here. I went with my best friend & ordered a number of items from the menu. In general, Pad See Ew is a simple dish, but very easy to mess up. This place has it completely down. I had mine with chicken (the best way to have it) and it was delicious. They add a number of vegetables in it that are steamed to deliciousness. The quarter Roasted Duck was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's anything crazy but I enjoyed trying it. My friend got a curry noodle soup & it was absolutely phenomenal. Pretty spicy to be weary of that. I was obsessed with how it tastes like just trustttttt. The vanilla iced coffee is a straight 10/10. This place is so underrated it's almost sad. The family who owns this place are so hospitable, I felt so happy the whole time. Super attentive service. 100/10 in service.

Update 9/3/2025: Went again with more company! Duck over Rice - 5/5 - The sauce is absolutely stellar!! If you like rice and you /love/ an amazing sauce, I'd go for this one. Dip that duck in the dark sauce, and tuck it in with some sauced rice, you will have entered to a wonderful mouthful dance. The vegetable might taste bland in comparison, but trust me... it's a great balance to the overall dish. I personally ate every last grain possible. And the vegetable was demolished. That's how good it is!! Crab Noodle Curry - 5/5 - I'm going to order this again! I have mild spicy tolerance but this was so worth it! If you eat this, pace yourself with some of their Thai tea. Mix all the side ingredients and crab meat and noodles with a spoonful of curry! There was no shell on the crab, and the noodles are SO SOFT, they aren't sticking together. Mango Sticky Rice - 5/5 - Wow this blew me away! It's not peak Mango season but they managed to present a mango almost like it's peak. The crispy rice on top was the right texture I didn't know I was craving with combination of the coconut sauce and mango. Chicken Sate - 4/5 - Great appetizer! This was really delicious just wish there was more meat. The salad is delicious with the sauce too. Thai Ice Tea - 5/5 - As someone that tasted a lot of thai tea that's catered to the mass.. this one is a lot more mild in comparison. It's the perfect assistant I needed to eat the crab noodle curry. Unchan - Butterfly Pea with Lime - 5/5 - I love how this was fun to mix together and it was tasty! Coconut water - 5/5 - if you like coconut water, can't go wrong here! Bathroom - Yes; one of the cleanest bathrooms I've seen around. Parking - Street parking is plentiful past 7PM. Overall, service is really friendly and fast. I waited at most 8-10 minutes from ordering. They give you ordering tablets for the same table # and once you send your order they will confirm availability and proceed with your order - this is much appreciated rather than wait a while and be told that the dish is unavailable. They are more than happy to also give you recommendations, if you want. I believe most of these dishes are best eaten right then and there in house as they are served at the optimal window. If you choose to eat any of these at home as leftover especially the curry noodles.. be sure to add some water to re-hydrate and loosen up the noodles. warm the curry separately. Make your own vegetables like green beans.

This family owned spot is such a gem! First off, they have parking in the back, which is a huge perk. The family who owns the restaurant took such good care of us, and their food was delicious. Pad thai was authentic and everything was flavored just right. The space is modern and super cute. Highly recommend visiting this spot!!

    Crab noodles
    Tiffany Y.

Great Thai place for a group. Papaya salad was a significant portion and mild enough to enjoy, spice levels could be adjusted. The crab curry noodles came with the sauce on the side, that one was my favorite. We also tried the pad see ew, Thai omelet, duck, and crab fried rice and everything was great. Ordering was via a tablet and street parking was easy on a Sunday. The owners were so welcoming and attentive, they let us bring our own wine and cake for my friend's birthday too! Hope to come back soon!

    Pad See Ew with Duck
    Joy B.

These spring rolls were SUPERIOR! So fresh! Herbs and everything!!! I would come back just for them! Sauce was DELICIOUS. Pad See Yew smelled so good. Needed the chili sauce. But they did supply it and it was great. Probably I'll get it with chicken next time instead of duck. Service and ambiance were on point! Exactly what i needed to calm my nerves mid day.

The regular menu is quite expensive with the cheapest at $17 for appetizer and salad options and most expensive at a whooping $80. The lunch menu was more affordable but still on the pricey side $21-$32 with add on options. The waitress was taking our orders and what surprised me was with my co-worker ordered the pad see ew and the waitress asked her how spicy she wants it. I was aw shocked. I'm not a Thai food expert but I do know pad see ew is a noodles dish that's offers a sweet soy sauce flavor. Never served spicy. I didn't get to try the dish but when I asked my co worker how it taste she said it was spicy and not sweet at all. I'm not sure that was an authentic pad see ew. I ordered from the lunch menu and got the tumeric chicken, with steamed vegetables and paid extra $7 to substitute for a papaya salad. I asked for #2 spice level but it was not spicy at all. Other co workers said they asked for medium but it was way too spicy. So it looks like their spicy levels are inconsistent. I'm not sure how this restaurant can justify the prices with the quality they are serving. Probably won't be back. Service was mediocre. Didn't offer to refill our waters. The rice was piping hot and the mangos were sweet and soft, drizzled with a generous serving of sweet coconut milk. I went close to closing so the staff could only offer me takeout, which was fine. They were friendly both over the phone and in-person when I picked up my order. I'm only dinging it a point because of its high(er) price point. I would be down to go back again to try out their entrees next time though!

I felt like I came to eat and my mom's house. They take Debit Card and Apple Pay WITH a pin only. I forgot my wallet and paid with Apple Pay. It did not have a place for tip which made me feel awful. At the end I apologized and she was like "it's ok, next time." And she was genuinely fine with it. She reassured me not to worry about it. So I'm determined to come back to tip her because if anybody deserved a tip it was her. I ordered Pad Thai with tofu- I like to order peanut sauce on the side and the woman found it interesting and struck a non judgmental conversion about it. I could really tell she was genuinely curious. This was my favorite dish. It was good. I also ordered spicy fried rice with tofu and spicy panang curry with vegetables. I chose 4 out of a 6 for spicy and it was not spicy at all for me. The rice was fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing bad. The panang curry was yummy. I don't know if it's regional but it was very light in taste and light in thickness. BUT I enjoyed it for what it was. Felt like I had gotten home made chicken soup or something like that comforting and not overly processed. Maybe it's because I ordered it with no protein and just vegetables. I ordered a lot of food so I explained to her that I was going to eat some and take the rest to go. When she brought the food she brought it nicely packed without a bag. She also brought me a real plate and utensils to eat here. She let me know that when I was ready she'd bring a bag which I thought was thoughtful. She also made sure to say "take your time, no need to rush. We close at 8" and it was 5pm. Again, it felt genuinely nurturing, she wanted to make sure I felt taken care of and welcomed. It meant a lot because I was frazzled from forgetting my wallet and from having a hard day at work. This was my first time here and it won't be my last. There is a small lot on site. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.
