We came here around 11am on a Wednesday and it wasn't that busy. We got seated right away, and our waitress was Nicole. Service overall was great, she was constantly refilling our coffee and making sure we were doing alright. This place was terrible when I went a few days ago. We went on the day Biden just won the presidency and decided to go out for breakfast. The service was terrible and the wait times were through the roof. The servers were mean and snappy towards us and they didn't have heaters, it took them over 30 minutes to bring us our food and our pancakes came cold and soggy from the mound of butter the pit on top along with a wrong order. I've been living in Bakersfield for about 4 years now. We found Spencer's fairly quickly and we never looked back. It's a great place. The food is delicious. The service is prompt. They keep my glass full, which is a huge plus in my family. The only thing you have to watch out for is the very occasional inaccuracy on the part of the cooks as far as special orders are concerned (i.e. no onions, extra crispy hash browns, etc., etc.). Even then, 9 times out of 10 the waitresses will catch the mistake before it gets to your table and they'll kindly let you know that they asked the cooks to correct it. The customer service was great. They were friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately, that is as good as it gets. The establishment needs some upkeep. The booths appeared to be dirty at the top and some had black tape holding the cushions together. The table was dirty, and the food lacked SEASONING!!! I ordered the Lumberjack and my potatoes were burnt, lacked flavor and some were not edible, my pancakes were less than average and the bacon and eggs were ok. We frequent the Spencer's on Rosedale Hwy and Love it, love the service and food is always good. However This was our first time to this location. We understand that a Sunday morning may be a busy time but when we checked in they said about a 15-20 minute wait when i went to check the status she said about 15-20 minutes again. Not good! be honest with us. We had a baby with us and had we known it would have been closer to 45 minute wait we would have tried at a later date. So we got seated and although our server was nice (don't know her name). It was horrible service. We saw her to take our order and when she dropped off food and bill. My friend and I stopped by Spencer's on Wednesday morning for breakfast. She ordered a pancake combo and I ordered just plain pancakes. The food was excellent and we had the nicest waitress. The really fun thing was that when we tried to pay, the waitress told us that someone had picked up the check for our breakfast! That made our day! I had really high hopes for this place.. I had heard a lot of positive things, and decided to try it out. First off: If you are a regular you are treated like ROYALTY. Mostly senior citizens (which is so cute) they are given priority. All service requests, and questions are answered first. So since this was my first time, naturally I did NOT receive this stellar service. Second: I asked our waitress for a recommendation between two dishes I was pondering; Bacon and Eggs or NY Steak and Eggs.. which she replied "Oh I'd order the NY Strip over anything on the menu!" So I was expecting this to be really tasty.. which it was not. I ordered medium, and it came out well (even burned around the edges) and not seasoned at all.. it needed A1 to even be edible. Third: The food overall wasn't bad.. but it wasn't DELICIOUS. It was just kind of blah.. too much stuff on the plate you don't eat. A strip of iceburg lettuce under a hot sandwich doesn't do it ANY JUSTICE. Parsley, and sliced oranges on a steak isn't needed either. The biscuits were soft and handmade.. but again had no flavor. There was no sausage in the sausage gravy, and half of my potatoes were raw, while the other half were burnt. The silver lining of the meal was our waitress Patty tried to apologize for the steak and eggs and just took it off the bill. Thanks but I'd rather of had my meal prepared properly the first time. It seems that Spencer's could use a few decor over hauls and a new chef. Update the menu, and train the staff to be nice to everyone, not just the regulars. read more

My husband and I ate here for the first time, the SW location behind McD's. We had heard about Spencer's but only of the Rosedale location. It was per chance we drove past the SW location after leaving Firehouse after a UFC fight night. It is smaller inside than I expected and the decor was cute, cabin-like. Very similar to Cope's Knotty Pine. It was packed and we arrived at 1:45pm (they close at 2:30pm on Sundays). Service was excellent! Immediately greeted and drinks ordered. I got the Lumberjack and it was MASSIVE! 2 large pancakes (she brought 2 things of syrup, 2! Finally a waitress who knows 1 tiny cup of syrup is insufficient). 3 eggs, a lot of hash browns, a good slice of ham, and bacon (i asked for extra bacon to replace the sausage). It was great! My husband got the Meat Lovers skillet w/o eggs, as he can't eat eggs. He LOVED it. Bacon, tri-tip, hot links, sausage, country potatoes, and cheese PLUS biscuits & gravy on the side was included! We were both thoroughly impressed, pleased that it was so close to home but bummed we had not been here sooner. A bunch of other things sounded great from the menu. Unlike many breakfast chain food restaurants, you can taste the love in the food. The breakfast burritos are so good and big enough to take some leftovers home. Alway busy! Always! It is a very small location, on warm days they do have seating outside but it only add a little more space and it's a very tight walkway out there.. The food is good, (they do not have toppings for pancakes other than chocolate chips..) we usually get the same thing but every time it's still just as good. The service is quick and the girls are polite. Coffee and water are constantly coming around. One bad thing (that is to be expected because it is a small restaurant) is the restrooms are a single person stall. So if you gotta go, then you might have to wait in line.. read more

Had a great meal. Most things are just regular breakfast food but the specials are great and everything is a good price. I got the three little pigs sandwich. It's on the weekend menu but u can order it anytime. I love that they buttered the sourdough bread and it was just so yummy. It included ham, egg, bacon and sausage! I also got hash browns with it. Charming little place but not the place for us. Like a lot of diners during brunch, there's going to be a long wait. Our hostess misread Mike as Mary so we were overlooked. We had to go in and ask. We went about at 10:00 and got out at around 12:00, by which time it had slowed down considerably. The servers are bustling around and ours was very nice. I had the French toast special and bf had the breakfast nachos. Chili verde was pretty tasty. I was disappointed to find out this is not a wheelchair friendly restaurant. They have only one half booth to accommodate a disabled person. Also there is only one handicapped parking space in this parking lot. There is another handicapped parking space in this parking lot in front of another restaurant but you can't reach Spencer's restaurant using it its blocked. read more

I'm excited to find that there's a Spencer's location down in SW Bakersfield now that I no longer live near the Rosedale location. The food is the same with the same flavors and portion. This was my first time at this location. I was not greeted. The service was not very friendly. I got scrambled eggs, French toast and potatoes. My eggs were cold. My French toast wasn't cooked all the way so the toast was very soggy. My potato's were cold and not cooked very well or the veggies that came with them. I went In the morning they weren't too busy.
