My wife and I frequent this location. All of the staff are super friendly and nice to be around. They go out of their way to make you feel right at home. The food is always super good. 100% our favorite breakfast spot. Since I work a few buildings down myself and a few of the guys that work for me have been coming In for lunch now too. The service is usually good. The food is hit and miss. But the proverbial straw is that they overcharged us on our last visit by a dollar and some change. We always add the cents to the initial tip to make the final charge come out to an even amount. Ex $XX.00 Makes it simple. The final amount for the bill was an even $40 this time, after tip, and we were charged an extra dollar and some change. So me and my family decided to check this place out a couple months ago and we heard a lot of great things from different people. To me, who can really go wrong w breakfast? Breakfast is always awesome and I love me some breakfast. I ordered a big breakfast and the only thing I was able to remember and still think about til this day is the Swedish pancakes aka strawberry crepes I had. I'm always torn between savory and sweet for breakfast and so I had to choose the one that had both. The experience was so-so and wasn't extravagant as the waiter was just doing her job. She wasn't the best nor was she even close to being my worst experience. The restaurant itself is okay also. It's not fancy, but it is nice and clean inside. It took us quite some time to visit this restaurant as you can always see a long line outside, but the lines move quite fast, so don't be discouraged. But I do have to say... I enjoyed that Swedish crepe and I wouldn't mind having that a again soon!!! Yummy! read more

Had breakfast at Spencer's today, just a few notes about this place. The first thing I'd like to touch on is their prices, I would say they're a bit above average around the $11-$12 and up range. Now that's not to say you don't get quite a bit of food, they definitely serve more than you need. The next thing is the service, we had pretty good service at this location, our waitress was very nice, and the wait times were not bad at all. Kind of comparable to a more mom and pop version of Denny's. Now to the food! Mmmm man the food was tasty soft scrambled eggs, thick cut French toast, and hardy thick hash browns, and definitely not microwaved bacon. This is where most of my starts come from for Spencer's. The lunch menu looked excellent to, if you're looking for somewhere to take your family or a breakfast date with your significant other this place does well for that. Final note: don't let my comment about the prices scare you it only comes out to about $5 or so more than like a Denny's or iHop. Definitely would recommend. Lastly the only reason I left 4 stars is because my lady said something was off about her Belgian waffle, tasted kind of chemically. read more

We always go to this place , but today was such a nightmare. There was a lipstick mark on my cup. It was so nasty. And the cashier told me not to go back if I wasn't not satisfied. She is a bitch. We've been here many times and, although the wait is sometimes long, it's always worth it. We are treated like family and the attention they give my two year old son is a wonderful touch! We aren't too picky about seating so when they offer to sit on the patio without the wait we always jump at the opportunity! The servers are always great with our groups (ranging from 3-12). We only had a problem one time when they called a group who walked in after us. The name they used was very similar to the name we used, but it's ok. We got seated fairly quickly anyway and were served just as quickly as well. I highly recommend this location to anyone wanting to try something off the beaten path. My favorites? Their skillets, the lumberjack, and the French toast with strawberries. We've never had anything but breakfast here lol. Something else they're known for is their biscuits and gravy! This place reminded me of an old folks home. I have no idea how long it's been open , but from looking around it looks like there are a lot of long time regulars;or this is the number one retiree joint. Anyway the food wasn't too bad, nice size helpings too. The waitress was perfect, which is what actually came out of my BF's mouth. They had grits too! Which always makes a breakfast spot a go for me,real simple huh lol The waitress claimed there were free desserts with every lunch order so we got ice cream. The ice cream had some freezer burned parts in my scoop, so that was a no for me; I'll just stick to breakfast and lunch there. read more

Food is alright. Bacon was over cooked. Found a short thick black hair in my boyfriends chicken fried steak gravy, he couldn't even finish so that was a waste of money. Visited and ordered takeout for chicken fried steak and eggs today. Everyone was polite and I received the order in time. It was a bit crowded inside, though, during a pandemic. When I started eating, I noticed one hair. Turned a blind eye. Then, I noticed another. Hesitated, but turned the other eye. I lifted my eggs and saw more hair. Had to stop eating at that point. I've been back and must admit food is not as good. For roughly the same price, I would rather go to 24th Street cafe. This place cranks out decent food with good portions. I've tasted the french toast as well as various omelettes. I would return, but would probably opt for take-out as this place is small and gets pretty crowded to the point where service kind of suffers. read more

Cinnamon swirl French toast was yummy! Came with 8 halves (4 full pieces of bread) and some tasty cinnamon-y butter. It was cooked to a nice crisp, unlike many French toasts that come out soft or soggy, this was nicely cooked with those beautiful brown edges. Came with two eggs and two sausage. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. My first time here and I was afraid it was going to be just another diner, but it was pretty tasty. Sunday brunch after church is one of my favorite meals of the week, and I love having the option of breakfast food or lunch. Spencers is only open til 2pm so they must do well enough to be able to close at that time. Considering there is a line an about a 15 minute wait for a table it appears that a lot of people are aware of just how good of an idea it is. We arrived around noon and put our names on the list. They have a nice little patio waiting area outside where all the friendly locals exchange small talk as they wait for their names to be called. It was a quick 15 minutes before our names were called and we were seated at ne of the inside booths. They also have outdoor seating available, but it was a little chilly this morning. Our server Lisa was very funny and very friendly. She was right on top of our drink order and took our food order right away. One of the coffee mugs did have lipstick on it, but was swapped out straight away with an apology. I'm sure it's been super busy all morning and was an honest mistake. We spent the next 30 minutes chatting while we waited for our food, and getting hungrier by the minute. The wait was definitely longer than we would have wished, but the Lisa checked on us and our drinks a couple of times. With an eagle I saw every plate that came out of the kitchen, which only made me more excited for the arrival of our meals. Everything looked delicious and came in such large portions. The salads that passed by were enormous and loaded with meats and veggies, and I saw a slice of ham that was the size of a small tire. I knew that this would be worth the wait. Our food arrived and our table had everything from a BLT to Chile Verde omelet, all meats omelet and a santa barbara omelet. Obviously if you have read some of my reviews it would be a good guess that I was having the BLT. However, since I added onions and cheese it may now be considered a BLOCT sandwich. It came with seasoned french fries and 2 pickle spears, and loaded with bacon. It was delicious and probably one of the best BLOCT club sandwiches I've had in Bakersfield. Everyone else loved their meals as well and left no food behind. It was a great meal and a heck of a way to start our Sunday after church. I personally would rather wait a little longer for a meal that was fantastic then to have something less tasty just thrown together. Although we rarely eat here it is always good. This morning we ordered, between the four of us, a nacho breakfast, linguica and eggs, pancakes and eggs with English muffins. I really love coming here for breakfast and definitely one of the places in town that is "worth the wait" if there is a wait list to be seated. I always get exceptional service here and the food is always fresh and hot. There are also great vegetarian options and menu items can always be modified to fit your dietary needs. For example I don't eat meat but wanted to try homemade biscuits and gravy so they always sift out the meat for me which I appreciate. Will always be returning here!!! read more

Just ordered a waffle combo and country fried steak breakfast for delivery and didn't come out so great. I know it is delivery so I expected the waffle to be a little bit soggy but wow! It was super soggy and very untasteful! The country fried steak was also very soggy. Not trying to bring this company down but for delivery I definatley wouldn't order to go from this place again! My gf told me it was a vit better eating at the restaurant itself but for my first experience of the food and it's only take out was pretty bad in my opinion. I will try this place out for breakfast and dine in and hopefully change my opinion to be better. If you know your business can't serve food to go I would consider not making certain foods to go especially if it will be soggy, just sell things that would still be good for delivery or take out. Big disappointment. What happened? We got up extra early to come for breakfast before we went over to my parents and we were saddened to find that they no longer grill their steaks but rather pan fry them. This no longer provides the beautiful grill marks and charred crisp edges that really made their steaks delicious. That in itself put a damper on our experience. This rating is solely for the environment. The food was good and the servers were really kind. However, this was the most uncomfortable I've ever been while eating a meal. Uncomfortable to the point that I could not enjoy my food. There was a gentleman who kept staring at me and when I stood in line for the restroom he gave me a nasty look and literally clutched onto the handle as if I was going to invade his space. Another lady and the same guy made a face when I picked up a lemon that fell onto the floor because I didn't want a server to fall on it. Very rude, very unwelcoming, very uncomfortable. We came here around 11am on a Wednesday and it wasn't that busy. We got seated right away, and our waitress was Nicole. Service overall was great, she was constantly refilling our coffee and making sure we were doing alright.
