This is usually our fav, but was totally disappointed today. I tried to call in an order and was put on hold, I stayed on hold for 30 minutes. I could hear everything going on in the restaurant, I even heard the phone being moved over a few times. However, no one bothered to check it. I finally gave up, but still tried calling back. But, of course it was busy because they still had my call on hold. We ended ordering from Toasted cafe and really enjoyed it! Toasted is a wonderful, cool spot, everyone should try it. Had a party of 15 for breakfast. Thought it was going to be a problem, wrong, they have an outside heated patio for large parties. DON'T go here unless you are hungry. They really feed you. A fantastic menu, super quick service, and the quality of the food is excellent. Highly recommend. Hint if you have a big party, go early. Will definitely visit again either with a big family breakfast or just my wife and I. read more

As you walk in you are always greeted by not only the hostess but many waitresses. They are always busy, sometimes you do have to wait but it's never long. It doesn't matter what you order breakfast or lunch you can't go wrong. If you are by yourself or with a big party they can accommodate you. They also have patio seating. The food and service is always great! My best waitress there is a young lady named Allison. Lol! read more

We love coming to Spencer's to share a chicken fried steak meal. The portion size and the quality ingredients are great!

The Country Fried Steak (one of my dinner go-to's) was not that great. The cut of the meat throw off the whole plate. Biscuits had great texture. My dad ordered the Spencer Hobo Omelet, pretty good. It was busy throughout our meal. Besides that one issue with the texture of the meat, no other complaints. I'd come back, just not for the CFS. read more

Great country food, served with a smile. We have been eating at this spot and the original location for over 25 years total. They have always had good food that will stick to your bones. Today i took the kids in for lunch. We only waited for a minute or two before being seated. The kids both ordered bacon cheese burgers with fries. I got the American club house. It also came with fries. The food was hot and fresh with out taking to long. This place is popular and the kitchen can get backed up a little at times. Not today. Everything was good. Oh do not forget that each meal comes with homemade dessert or icecream. We will be back soon. read more

I tried to enter through a locked door so, yes, my first time at Spencer's. When I found the entrance, I was greeted and was meeting a buddy there. The server was hospitable and very friendly. Definitely a diner, counter and all the signage gives a very down-home feel to it and to my surprise, a full house on a Friday morning. I had the border skillet. Bring your appetite because the portions are generous. I believe it's 2 eggs with peppers, mushrooms, tri tip pieces and diced hot link. I had the biscuit and gravy with it, any good breakfast has decent biscuits and gravy. The biscuit is as as big as a cats head, flakey and buttery. The gravy was perfect, not overwhelmingly salty like most places plus, had plenty of country flavor. Customer service is big to me and this place has it. Definitely won't be my last time here, especially since it isn't far at all from my gym. read more

During covid, dining is outside on the patio with socially distanced tables . Outside fans are going to help keep the patio cool and it feels like a nice little getaway being outside . Service was fast and courteous, I've never felt more welcome. The patio is family friendly and had a variety of ages present . As far as my meal , I tried quite a few things and all were delicious. My favorite thing was the meat lovers scramble and the biscuits and gravy . The scramble is customizable, I asked for mine without ham and it wasn't a problem . Why in the hell would anyone put Italian seasoning on breakfast potatoes not even Italians do that. The caliber of food has gone completely down hill since the youngster took over operations. My recommendation is give this place a pass. Just because it is close does not mean it is at all good. They can even screw up a salad. read more

Our go to place for early breakfast before 7:00 am. The staff is outstanding and the crepes are yummy. I highly recommend either locations. Looked up "hash browns" on yelp and this place was about the third or fourth one down the list. I took a look at the pictures and was convinced this place would be good and I'm happy to say I was right . We had a kids cheeseburger , poached eggs with hash browns, the Santa Barbra omelette, and the chili verde omelette and all of it was so delicious. We recently moved here to Bakersfield so we have not found any breakfast spot that reminds of places like Norms and the diners back where we moved from, but Spencer's was great! I ordered (to go) a chicken fried steak and eggs breakfast with country potatoes and it was such a big portion. Not only did I get a CUP of gravy that comes with the steak, but when they asked me for the type of bread I wanted I asked for the biscuit and gravy and they even added a SECOND cup of gravy. Not that I ate both but just to give you the idea of the amount of food they give. The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. Some other places usually charge the same but for half the amount of food. Apparently there are 2-3 Spencer's in Bakersfield so I will try the location closer to home next time, but as for this location, it was great. read more

Got the Mexicali omelette, country potatoes and the B&G. Food was flat. Just lacked seasoning. Guacamole wasn't fresh and the gravy was watery. The biscuit reminds me of the ones they would make fresh in grade school...that's not a complaint. In their defense the Mexicali comes with cheese and sour cream. I didn't get either one. That dairy add a lot of flavor! On a positive note Chrissy is a dope waitress and the food came out quick. As a matter of fact the food did seem like it was rushed out by the kitchen. You will forget there has been a pandemic at Spencer's. Everything is as it has always been. The staff is super friendly and the food is exactly as you hope it will be. We had omelettes, biscuits and gravy, chicken strips and Asian chicken salad. Delicious and plenty of food. Perfect iced tea, which I always appreciate. When we arrived, I was worried the wait would be long, but they get people in and out, so it wasn't too long before we were seated. We try to go to Spencer's in the SW. Even with people out the door they are quick and efficient and get everyone served, there is a small patio. The waitresses are always kind and patient. Classic diner motif with some pretty humorous signs. The food is plentiful- we love the hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy (ask for white bread tho). The negative thing is we always have to add salt and pepper, but that's ok for the older clientele. Major great job!! read more

Weirdly disappointing. I'm a regular customer at the other Spencer's location on Rosedale Highway and have never once had a bad experience in any aspect. Came here expecting the same kind of quality and had a vastly inferior time. Wait staff was friendly, but got my order wrong and didn't check on me at any point after delivering my food. Had to have them down in order to have my order fixed, which was done quickly and kindly. Then I got my proper meal and it was so empty. Eggs were serviceable but, hash browns were dry, chicken was dry and my toast didn't even have butter. I left sadder then when I had arrived, which is something I've never experienced at the other Spencer's location. Definitely steering clear of this one from now on. read more

It was a planned stop for our road trip, since a 400 miles road trip is not a short distance, I planned a lot of places along the way for my mom to stretch her legs. I found this place three days before my road trip, and it was my first time stopping by Bakersfield, it was an interesting city. Their pricing is more towards NorCal trend, but portion is on the large side, even larger then SoCal. My mom was pretty happy about her steak, because she likes it grilled, a little charred, so she could enjoy the taste of beef. Nothing to complain about, and I enjoyed their service, if I ever make another trip up north, I would be happy to make a revisit. read more

I haven't even been seated yet but I've already had a very negative customer service experience. Upon walking through the door the young skinny girl with the long dark hair was at the front counter. Without even raising her head to acknowledge us and without even a hello she just quickly said "how many?" I wasn't even sure she was talking to us until she finally looked up at me and said the same thing again. I'm use to walking in and getting a friendly greeting but none today! We had our grandfather with us and a 2 month old and asked if we could get a table that would best accommodate us and she was direct and rude that she couldn't do anything about it. It was our grandfathers first time there and he wants to leave before even trying the food. Terrible experience. We are heading elsewhere now. read more

The mashed potato's were the consistency of soup, the chicken was rubbery and they literally gave me a large soda container of gravy. Usually comes with a salad but that was not offered.
