Inside the Doubletree by Hilton is one of the best steakhouses I've been to! Our server, Sarah, was the best! I was super excited they carried Angel's Envy bourbon and she asked if I had tried the rye...I told her I wasn't a rye person. Sarah went on to describe how the AE rye is made, but I stuck with my usual. When she brought our cocktails out, she also brought me a tasting of the rye!!!! Sooo nice and boy was she right....the AE rye is delish and not one to be mixed. The food was savory!! Spencer's is one of my favorite restraints to visit while I am visiting Spokane. It is a little expensive, but I always find the food to be excellent and the service to be friendly and attentive during dinner. Last visit here I tried the Zabuton steak and a baked potato. The steak was cooked perfectly with a nice seared crust outside, one of the best prepared steaks I have ever had. The baked potato was prepared at the table with fixings, a very nice touch. I sat in the bar and had a wonderful dinner. The bar is well-stocked (was happy see Tanqueray 10), and the bar staff are good at their jobs. I had a great martini. I had the ribeye, which was cooked perfectly and rested adequately. No complaints whatsoever about the steak. All sides are al-a-carte, which is a little annoying. I sprung 12 dollars for the baked potato, which was cooked well and had all the fixins served tableside (or barside, for me). The bread is to die for. I had the stout brownie for dessert. Underwhelming. It's baked-to-order, so it takes a while, and in the end, I just ate the ice cream that came with it. More kudos to the bar staff. This has to be the worst Beef dip sandwich I've ever had. The beef was so tough and dry I thought I would choke on it. The Au Ju had NO flavor and tasted like water. Even the waitress went back and tasted it after I told her and said, "You're right. They added some seasonings to this one" as she handed me another bowl. She said they're working on it in the back to Doctor it up. In the meantime, the au jus she gave me wasn't any better. I asked her to give some extra caramelized onions to help my sandwich. It did, but she didn't give me enough cause the sandwich was soooooooo bland. I will never order that from here again. I definitely don't recommend it! So I'm on the Whole 30 diet and dining out is a real challenge. Especially when looking for high quality food that is tasteful and satisfying. Admittedly I chose Spencer's because it is located in my hotel. However, I was happily surprised to find this restaurant is on par with my favorite haunts. Dropped in on Spenser's just because. The dining room is comfortable and spacious. We were seated in a cozy booth. I ordered premium champagne and was delighted to find it properly chilled. We had a dozen oysters with the wine, and they were among the best we've enjoyed in Spokane. We both had the ribeye with garlic mashed and burgundy mushrooms. The meals were perfectly timed to our appetizer and came with a glass of pinot. The meat was cooked to our taste but very salty. Went during the restaurant's week and parking was terrible!!! Although hotel says they will do valet parking, when I got there for dinner they said their parking lot was full. So I had to spend almost 30 mins circling around downtown Spokane to find a damn parking. (I think they also had some musical event going on the same day). The restaurant was packed with people trying restaurant's week menu and the ambiance was good. It would be a good place to bring your date. Now food. I might be biased because when I got there I was STARVING. So I ordered onion soup as an appetizer, steak as entree and pistachio creme brulee as a desert. I liked my appetizer and entree which was surprisingly a big portion for someone who eats a lot. But pistachio creme brulee was really disappointing for me because it literally tasted like they poured the whole bag of sugar in it-- I couldn't eat anymore after maybe 2 spoons because it was WAY too sweet! Also the texture was really thick almost like whip cream which I hate. :( But overall experience was great. Positives: My ribeye was cooked great and had little fat. The scallops entree was cooked well. The onion soup was delicious. Mash potato and mushroom sides were perfect complements to our entrees. Our waiter suggested to add the mushroom sauce on the steak and his suggestion was correct that added a nice flavor to the steak. The creme brulee, bread pudding, and ice cream (especially caramel) were delicious. Negatives: My dad's Zabuton was not well cooked. He wanted it cook pink, but it was little rare to his liking. My brother's steak was not cooked to how he liked it as well. He wanted it medium, but got medium well. The pickle garnish did not complement the steaks. It just threw off the taste of the steaks. The side of carrots were under cooked and did not taste well. We should've sent the carrots back but we already sent an item back. The item we sent back was the ahi appetizer. Did not taste fresh at all. It tasted really really really fishy and smelt terrible. The waiter even challenged us by commenting on how we know what fresh ahi taste like. I went back to question if the order was right and they said it was. We came here NYE. Someone we were meeting was staying at this hotel, so we decided to meet him here at the restaurant, so that way we could get something to eat too. This place was busy. And the hostess greeted us kindly and asked if we had a reservation. We did not, but there was plenty of seating in the bar area and we did not mind. Within minutes of sitting down, we were greeted by our server. She was kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable with the menu, as well as the specials. Our drinks cAme our rather fast. Presentation was lovely, and they tasted delicious as well. Not too long after that, our appetizers came out. They were hot, beautiful presentation, and packed with flavor! Let me first start by saying that as an airline employee that has been staying at the Doubletree and eating at Spencers for many years, there is absolutely no reason to give this place a 1 or 2 star rating for the following reasons. In the rare instance that something is not to your liking, you politely let your server or bartender know and, they normally go out of there way to make it right. If you are not treated fairly you go to the manager and let them know what your thinking and give them a chance to make it right. Seldom if ever have I been in any reputable establishment that hasn't fixed the problem. If they don't, they deserve a poor review. The reason I rambled on over this is because of several poor reviews I've read about Spencer's that stated the food was good but one thing or another wasn't right. Apparently we've become so attached to our "pacifiers" (phones) that we'd rather stab a business in the back than actually speak to someone. In this difficult time, we need to be mindful of the effect this can have on a business..... give them the chance to make it right before you fire off that rant..... much like this one. The Chicken Chop came next, and it was cooked exactly at the point of juicy, and firm, all at the same time. The skin provided a nice crust to the sweet meat it covered. The sauce was polished, and full of pan enriching flavor. It came with fingerling potatoes and asparagus, which sadly was the only down side, I think they could have used slightly larger cuts of potatoes. Over all; a wonderful meal! Came into town visiting on a business trip and it stayed at the DoubleTree Hotel. Have been going out to restaurants the whole time I stayed in town and wanted to avoid going to the "hotel's downstairs restaurant" but ended up taking a chance and heading down. Turned out to be the literally the best place I've eaten in town since I've been here! Service is friendly and on point and the booths at the bar were extremely comfortable.
