This place changed. It looks more organized. Cleaner. They got some new tables ans booths. Good service. Great price.

We decided to try this spot out after a tiktok about it came across our fyp. We heard they had a great deal on hot food and with an Indian grocery attached we knew it was a place we had to check out. The restaurant side is straightforward, the hot food on display, steaming and ready to be served. Next to it a bakery case full of sweets of various shapes, colors and textures. Surrounding us were various religious figures from India and some canned coconut milk on sale, buy one get one free. We ordered a #2 Combo with Chana Masala and Dal. Plus two small chai. A heads up, this spot is all vegetarian and vegan, which I didn't mind but don't come here expecting Chicken Tikka or Lamb Vindaloo. It came with basmati rice, salad, yogurt sauce, pickle, samosa and warm roti. The Chana and the Dal had lovely spice without being overwhelming in heat. Nothing spectacular but an overall solid meal. The salad was a mix of cabbage and red onion, crisp and cool to balance the dish. The samosa was room temperature and I wish it was served hot like the rest of the food. The sauces served with it were flavorsome, a sweet tamarind and a tangy green sauce. The chai had a nice slight spiciness to it. A good way to take off the chill of this cool LA evening. After eating, we explored the grocery. Aisle after aisle was a discovery of spices, incense and pantry goods. They offered an interesting selection of hard to find specialty beverages and produce. The store was packed with items but still managed to be clean and organized. I took the opportunity to snag some Cadbury bars you don't see in the US that often. Finally, we swung back by the sweets counter on our way out and got a mix. Everything was quite pleasing and the different textures was a joy to experience. This spot is one of a few locations, but it feels like a hidden gem in the neighborhood. Bright murals paint the sides to draw attention as you walk by. Humble interior, good food, good portions and good people. Would definitely come back if I lived nearby.

    Great price for lunch!

I had a lot of fun here with the family today. We are trying out making more Indian food at home and wanted to come here for the expansive choices of spices. We went aisle by aisle and looked at all the different brands and foods they offered. There was even an aisle for flour and we are big on baking and got a new pasta maker, so we were exited to see various brands of rice flour and multi grain flour. We ended up getting spices, flour, curry paste, tomato paste, cheese and frozen food. The key ingredients we needed that is not readily available at a regular grocery store. On the way out we did want to try some food. We just wanted samosas, but we ended up also getting a combo #1 curry that includes two curries and rice. My 14th month old is a very picky eater, but he ate a whole samosa for the first time! The chutnies that came with the samosas were the highlight for me. Very flavorful. Nice kick. For the combo we got the Dal and the Peas and Cheese curry. The price for the combos are very reasonable for a complete meal. Good to mention that the food is vegetarian. Parking: they have their own parking lot and there is ample meter parking on the street

I don't know about you, but this is by far the worst South Indian food I've ever eaten. That's not how coconut chutney should look, and the sambar was like drinking tomato soup--complete miss. The masala dosa shouldn't look like that; it should be filled with mashed potatoes sautéed with onions, curry leaves, mustard seeds, turmeric powder, chili powder garam masala and the list goes on. The idli--if you threw them on the floor, it would probably hurt someone. Idli should be soft and pillowy.. sigh. And lastly, the vadai... it's like you're cutting corners on the actual ingredients to save money. It's a hard NO for me. Again, as a Tamil South Indian, we do not cook food this way. That lady that prepared the mean was nice. Place looks like a typical Indian food stall will not come back for the food but for the sweets only.

I felt like a vegetarian meal, so I ended up at India Sweets & Spices: it's half grocery market and food stall cafe (cafeteria like). The pre-made food is mainly ALL VEGETARIAN/VEGAN items. Lots to choose from; a combo meal is a good option to start with or ask for recommendations. The menu is broken down by Northern/Southern Indian regional specialties: offered as Combos, Snacks, and Desserts/Drinks. You order at the counter then find a seat. No frills type place. Friendly environment. There's parking on the premises; however, it's a little tight during peak lunch/dinner rush. You can park on the side streets. Credit Cards are accepted.

India Sweets & Spices is really a special type of Indian grocery store. While you will find typical spices, vegetables and prepared food, there's so much more. Located on Los Feliz, look for the Folk Art depiction of the many-armed goddess, Lady Durga. Inside, as said, you have a grocery store for nearly all your South Asian cooking needs. But then, if you take a right, you find a large cafeteria. Now, at first glance, the cafeteria doesn't look particularly special. This is definitely NOT an Indian restaurant. The tables are very simple and the walls are pretty plain. And there's no waitstaff. The food, however...now that's a different story. For under ten dollars you can get a HUGE tray of Indian vegetarian food. You can get one or two curries, rice, bread (like naan or chapati), sauces, pickle and dessert. And the food is very tasty. I've never been able to finish everything on my tray, even when I was famished. I suggest checking out both the store and the cafeteria during the same visit as its fun to check out the ingredients, but also the housewares, religious paraphernalia, henna and beauty supplies used by the local South Asian community. Definitely recommend.

It's super clean but without feeling steril. When we sat down, we noticed a nice woman with her mom who was celebrating her 95th birthday and we sat next to them. They were both very sweet and mentioned the items they got and how good everything was. We basically mirrored their dishes and were not disappointed by our choices. Generally, when you're at a Thai restaurant, you can't go wrong when you take advantage of suggestions given to you by two beautiful Thai people. We started off with an appetizer called "Gold Rush" which are 6 crispy, yet chewy wontons that are cooked until golden and then the dipping sauce was a tangy soy vinaigrette which I initially wished had not been taken away with our plates when we were done but any concern I had was soon forgotten when the other dishes came out because everything was so well seasoned that I never once thought, "I wish I still had some of that dipping sauce". We ordered the Laab Chicken which I always crave because so many Thai restaurants don't serve it. But Spice Season offers it and that might have been my favorite dish. I always order it without the rice powder because I don't like the powdery ground rice. I think it's a distraction from everything else in the dish. Our server didn't blink an eye when I asked that it not be included. Next, we ordered the Pad Thai. It was delicious. The noodles are thinner rice noodles (like angel hair) than what I have typically experienced (more like the size of linguini) but I loved the dish overall, would not change a thing and will definitely order it again. Blazing Basil Beef was the next dish that came out. The beef was super tender that night but it did not heat up well the next day. It got tough, even though I heated it up using a very low microwave power setting. This was in no way a reflection on how they cooked this dish because it was perfect when it came out. I will try the Heaven Scent next time or Spice Season Steak in lieu of Blazing Basil but that is not to say I would never order it again - far from it - but we are excited to try other dishes as I have noted further below. Rounded everything out with the Pineapple Fried Rice which I crave just as much as Laab but I'm usually nervous to try it because so many times the rice doesn't have any flavor, or not enough pineapple juice but not the case here! It was delicious! D'oh! I forgot to mention the Matcha Cheesecake which was heavenly. It took me several days to finish that off and unlike the Blazing Basil, it held up fantastically in the fridge for the next few days which is how long it took me to finish it off. Honestly, everything we tried was incredibly fresh, bursting with different flavors and cooked the way we enjoy our Thai food. We were not rushed, and the person who took our order said that we had ordered plenty of food which I appreciated - we do tend to over-order but that's because we eat the leftovers but I thought it was nice that she gave me the "that's probably enough" sign. Last thing I will mention just to help others on the spicy scale, we love our Thai food spicy. I read some reviews where people said the food was not spicy enough. We told our server that we like spicy and that we would leave it up to her - she said that everything would be a 4 out of 5 on the spice scale and while it was perfect for me, my husband thought it was just a tad too spicy but I think he's just out of practice. ;) We will probably go with 3 out of 5 next time, unless I'm alone. Then I would go back to 4 on the spice scale! I'm excited to try the Papaya Salad, Lime Steak Salad, Tom-Yum Fried Rice, Heaven Scent, and Lemongrass Soup. They definitely have a wide variety of food offerings, including things I've never heard of or seen. Something for everyone!

The theme is modern and eclectic Mediterranean and North African. We ordered the following appetizers and shared them among our group: Muhammara, Meatballs and Octopus Carpaccio. We also ordered the following main plates: Beef Shishlik, Whole Branzino and Prime Short Rib Tagine. For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate & Halva Sundae and the Tiramisu. Everything we had was creative, used fresh ingredients, was nicely plated, and tasted wonderful. Prices are on the higher side, as expected for an upscale restaurant. Drinks 4 stars: Full bar: Creative specialty cocktails, spirits, beer, wine and soft drinks. We had the Pornstar and the White Negroni specialty cocktails. Both were very good. There are no refills on drinks like iced tea. The upside of it being self service, is you can hang out as long and chat as long as you like. There is good chance if you do linger that you might order desert or a second small $10 iced tea (with tax and tip). It would be quite easy to spend well over $100 for 2, without table service... This is not like any of the other restaurants I've visited in Berkeley or even LaBrea's Little Ethiopia. It's focused on a more luxurious experience with genuinely authentic touches. ** ELEGANTLY ETHIOPIAN ** Warm, welcoming, and elegant, the staff is highly attentive, from the ceremonial hand washing to refilling glasses, and detailed explanation of menu items & Ethiopian culture. Also, the staff gives you your space, much like you'd enjoy your meal and time in Europe. Or as a nice meal is probably honored in Ethiopia. There seems to be a lot of care put into how to enjoy a feast with proper rituals in place. Speaking of honoring, Aunt Yvette's seems to also reserve a high regard for coffee as I sneaked a peek at a Coffee Ceremony on the menu. I will have to come back and try that next time. ** THE FEAST ** When at Ethiopian, it's always about sharing a platter. So after some deliberation, me and my lunch date settled on the Vegan Combo. It has all the fun vegetable options like the Berbere Red Lentils, Cabbage & Carrots, Yellow Split Pea, and Ethiopian Potatoes. We added Chicken Tibs as our protein. However, I really wanted the Cornish Game Hen, but lost in the negotiation part so I will need to return another time to try it (along with the coffee ceremony). As you may know, there are no utensils since you eat with the Injera spongy bread and use your hands. That's why the hand washing with rose water was a nice start to our lovely brunch. We also ordered a shot each of Tej, an authentic Ethiopian honey wine. It was fizzy and had a hint of apple cider vinegar taste, but paired well with the earthy spices of our meal. To fluff up the water sitch, there was an anise, ginger, and citrus water that's like a healthy, African aqua fresca for $5. After we mopped up all the spices sauces and exotic flavors with the ever-refilled injera (spongy, Ethiopian bread) we were stuffed. It was plenty food for the two of us. ** TURN UP THE HEAT ** For fire breathing ghost chili fans and spice freaks who love testing the Scoville scale on their tongues, I highly recommend any item that has MITMITA in it. I asked for extra since I'm one of those spice junkie nut jobs who needs her capsaicin fix with certain foods. Mitmita's flavor notes don't overpower and I was able to sprinkle my meal generously with heat. **NOTE: Mitmita in the ingredients list doesn't mean it's too spicy, but if you ask for extra spicy, it'll give you a good kick in the mouth ;) Good thing there's a list of craft cocktails to squelch the heat.

Everything was good; I just have a personal preference for the taste of butter. *** I visited a couple of years ago and haven't had a chance to return due to distance. Our party of 3 walked in on a Sunday upon opening (12pm), and we were seated immediately. We were first asked if we had a reservation, so I'm guessing you can call in. The small restaurant had a handful of tables for parties of 2-3 and lounge seating with low tables for parties of 4. There was one small table seating 2 outside without shade. Parking was easy in the small strip mall, though I can see it being busy during the week when other businesses are open. INTERIOR Upon entering, I was wowed by the beautiful decor and nature vibes. I noticed the green plants, glass ceiling lights shaped like rocks, and a dark cork wall in the back. I loved the gold cups and bamboo shaped water pitcher. The fans overhead kept us cool on a day that was supposed to be 90F. SERVICE The owner was super sweet and warned us (as first time visitors) about the seats rocking backwards. She proactively explained the menu including specials and made recommendations. Our server was prompt and equally courteous. He draped the napkins for us and sprinkled rosewater onto our hands as sanitizer. He offered well-timed refills for injera during our meal and provided scented hot towels at the end. DRINK/FOOD ORDERED - Hibiscus Iced Tea ($18 pitcher / $10 glass). We ordered a pitcher of Palm Tree tea to share, but I'm pretty sure we got hibiscus since it was dark red and tasted like hibiscus. It arrived in an adorable gold teapot. The tea was lightly sweet and tangy. - Beef Awaze Tibs ($27). This was our add-on to the vegan combo. I enjoyed the flavorful, fall-apart tender chunks of beef in a spicy sauce with onions. However, the stew was extremely oily for me. - Vegan Combo ($37). The combo by itself would have fed the 3 of us comfortably. While I enjoyed the overall taste and lightness of the vegan stews, I personally have a preference for the taste of butter. Misir wat (berbere stewed red lentil): It was good and had a more pronounced earthy flavor leaning towards bitter. Kik Alicha (turmeric stewed yellow split pea): I enjoyed the texture of the peas with some halves left in tact. Gomen (braised kale): I didn't taste much of the onion and garlic, but more of a tang than anything else. Kale salad: the kale leaves were tender and lightly dressed with a creamy dressing. It included beets that were surprisingly mild in flavor. Cabbage & carrot: I enjoyed the warm spice profile. Ethiopian style potato (rotating offering): the coconut curry potato we had on this day was excellent - sweet, savory, and flavorful. Seasonal split pea stew topped with with EVOO: this tasted similar to the Kik Alicha. It was good, but I preferred the Kik Alicha. The combo plate also included two condiments: Timatim (Ethiopian tomato salad) and sunflower milk, a dipping sauce made from sunflower seeds. The sunflower milk was so good! For injera, we received 2 rolls per person to start. After 3 pieces, I started eating the one on the plate that soaked up the stews. The injera was good, thick and spongy with a bouncy chew. However, the sharp sourness of the bread was a little unbalanced with the vegan stews. It was served cold, but I prefer warm or room temp.

Spacious/clean, easy parking, individual pots, fresh meat/ingredients, and a wonderful staff all make this worth coming back to again and again. Slightly different costs/portion sizes between lunch and dinner- what is 'large' for lunch is 'regular' for dinner (5.5oz) and works out to about 11 large slices. You get your choice of two dipping sauces (it's nice to see two other offerings besides standard ponzu and goma) and you can make the broth to your tasting with two squeeze bottles at each station (staff was also kind to help me the first time). Purple rice here is a nice, different touch. And both beef choices are great ($5 difference between prime chuck roll and the more premium prime rib eye) So tasty. I can see myself becoming a regular here for sure.

Which was actually perfect and I'm a pretty small girl, I can't imagine having any less than that. It comes with a plate of vegetables and your choice of udon or ramen. You get to choose two sauces and the sauces are refillable. So if you're going with someone else and you want more dips. Then you can both get four different ones to share. They offer a sampler when you first sit down of all the sauces so you can try them. You make your own soup and they give you different bases to make your soup to your liking. The seating area is pretty cool as it feels like a giant bar and everyone gets their individual pot. Service was good, everyone was very friendly and attentive.
