2024 Lunch special: Beef short ribs over steamed veggies with brown rice and a sweet/sour tamarind dipping sauce.
    Vi T.

Stopped in for their $10 lunch special. Such a good deal with solid options with 4 different dish choices. I had the panang curry with fried tofu and brown/red rice for takeaway today. The curry was less thick and viscous than what I'm used to, but still filling and pretty flavorful overall. You can also request them to adjust the spice level too. I also got a glass of guava juice ($3) as I waited for my meal to be ready. I am surprised that this place isn't as busy as some others on Park St. Will be back for sure!

What?!?! I mean WHAT?!?! This is my wife's favorite Thai restaurant, so where is my review?!?! Quality/Quantity - Sadly they were out of my wife's favorite dish, Angel Wings, Stuffed Chicken Wings. So today we only got the following: Beef Noodle Soup - Decent quantity, we were not able to finish. Not sure who cuts the meat for you, but can I suggest cutting across or perpendicular to the grain...? Your beef was tough... Chicken Eggplant - Again, a decent quantity, we had a little left over. But also again, your meat needs to be sliced correctly. But the good news was the chicken was more tender than the beef. Thank you. Ambiance - Small local restaurant. No customers today. Just 3 of us. Well really, two other customers. One customer was there before we got there and another came in when the first customer left. The decor is still modern and kept up well. One huge clean restroom. Metered street parking, too tired to walk today. Service - Good. Price - $33 + tip, reasonably priced for what we got. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success, for what seems like forever. We are loyal customers. And you are still my wife's favorite Thai restaurant.

Spice I Am is one of my go-to Thai spots in the East Bay. I used to order more takeout in the past, as it was convenient and generally good quality. I recently dined in while visiting the area, and it was a pleasant experience! We stopped by for a spontaneous, late lunch on a Sunday and it was pretty empty besides another small group dining. The restaurant is decorated simply with modern decor and a good amount of tables and chairs. The menu has a good variety of appetizers and entrees with reasonable prices and they also have some lunch specials available during the week. Customer service was friendly and attentive. I usually like to order some type of appetizer when dining in. My favorite is the prawn rolls, which are deep fried and served with a side of sweet chili sauce. We also ordered the roti, which comes with a flavorful, yellow curry dip. We also ordered the tom yum soup, which was delicious and a great option on a chilly day. The tom yum soup was loaded up with veggies and prawns and had a nice lemongrass flavor with a kick. We also opted to order a pad see ew noodle dish with tofu. The portion sizes for all items were great and we had some leftovers too. I ended up skipping a thai curry dish but will try to order it next time I visit. Overall, a solid Thai spot with great food and service!

Excellent lunch specials with reasonable pricing and friendly service! Ample and clean seating area inside as well. The panang curry with basa fish was delicious with a light kick to it, while the pad see ew and scallops with shrimp were tasty too. Definitely plan to return!

I had a delicious tofu pad see ew here. Loved that the hot sauce accoutrements came with pickled jalapeno! Also you can't beat a five dollar beer with dinner.

This review is just based off the Pad See Ew and Pad Thai, but they were very bland. The chicken was also quite dry.

Spice I Am has been one of our favorite restaurants for more than a decade. For dinner, our favorites are the Cashew Nuts Lovers dish, fried spring rolls, pot stickers and wine. We always left happy. Looking for lunch? The weekday lunch specials are a great deal. (Closed Wednesdays) The Crispy Chicken with Southern Fried Rice is delicious and generously portioned (yea leftovers!) We now live upstate and make every effort to stop in when in the Bay Area. They remember our order when we show up - Spice I Am and Alameda will always be

Came here for dinner on a Sunday night with some friends. There was only one table eating inside so we sat down quickly. Scanned the menu and took our orders. I got the spicy eggplant with chicken, my friends got the duck curry and lord noodles. We were all happy with our dishes. Portions are huge, when eaten with rice, my dish could easily feed 3 people. They also get a lot of to go/DoorDash orders. Overall it was good and convenient since I was in the area. Friendly staff, standard prices.

Those tofu fries though! Love how cute they are and they were so tasty!!!

Pang at Spice I Am was so thoughtful and kind! I have the tendency to be curious about the long time ownership and mentioned how I used to drop by in high school. Spice I Am is not only a classy restaurant but their hot tea reminded me of Thailand. It was such a delight! And the tofu fries were delicious as well. I loved the mango sticky rice too! Thank you so very much for working on Christmas Eve! We really appreciate your hard work and commitment to serving our community. I can't wait to return!

Pros the portions are great & worth the price point, the food is delicious to the point I'm gonna have to try everything on the menu & I'm the type that usually sticks to the same dish when I like it. Servers are attentive for how busy they are, great alcohol options. Cons - very loud, you cannot hear each other at your own table, food comes out dish by dish & can take a span of almost 30 mins for all food to come out. Got my sticky rice like 10 mins after my curry. It's hot in there & very busy so it's def hard to get the server's attn. Sitting by the door also sucks bc they're so busy so the door is always opening & there's not much space for folks to wait so they're kinda standing by you waiting lol. Not a romantic spot per se but can be if you can block out all the noise and ppl

The green salad roll, for starters, is very fresh and the peanut sauce is a bit different from other Thai restaurant I go to often, in such a good way, that I was scraping the bottom of the sauce bowl! Their taro puffs are STUFFED with taro! The sauce is a perfect pairing with the taro puffs, however, the puffs are packed with flavor that even without the sauce these are scrumptious! The roti are a must when we eat in Thai restaurants, so we made sure to order this also. The rainbow trout was my fav dish. I enjoyed it so much that I ate every last bite after my family had finished their meal. Service was excellent. They continuously checked on us and our food was served promptly after ordering! The vibe of the restaurant is family and date friendly, including solo dates! I love seeing people treating themselves out, which I saw this evening when we dined in. When you go in, make sure to stop to look at all the lucky cats and adorable figurines! The only reason I gave four stars is because they didn't have mango sticky rice when we ordered this for dessert, and we were told mangos are not in season, however, we enjoy mango sticky rice at other Thai restaurants and the mango is still ripe and delicious. Also, the pad see ew was very salty, so we asked if it could please be redone. They were so busy by that time, that the wait time would've been too long, so they offered to just take it off our bill, which we agreed to and we appreciated their honesty. I look forward to bringing friends next time and would like to try out more items from their menu, and reorder the taro puffs!

From other Thai places I have tried in the past the quality of the curry, noodle, rice, and special entrees were all over the place but this specific Thai places has my trust in across the board goodness. As a pescatarian and vegetable appreciator, this Thai place specifically will be in my tops due to the good variety of vegetables they include in their dishes while other places have more limited vegetables included in the entrees (i.e. one or two mediocre basic vegetables) which in my personal opinion makes the dish less interesting and less complete feeling. In addition, I was super pleased and thankful for the combo menu which was the PERFECT choice for me and my friends since we all wanted something a little different but having the bonus of an individual sized appetizer and regular drink is something I am always appreciative at restaurants since many people love variety for a more complete feeling meal experience. Absolutely will be coming back to slowly try the whole menu and will be my top pick and recommendation for Thai in Alameda.
