The owner Long took our order and he also was the cook in the back, he is a one-man show he did everything. Great customer service and very nice and friendly. We ordered the papaya salad, the level they had was one through 10 we did the most spiciest one level 10. We also ordered the Lao sausage also very spicy, boat noodle spicy, and the beef laab spicy. Overall everything was very good. I minus the one star due to a couple of items that were not available on the menu that we really wanted to try. My siblings and I were looking for a restaurant to eat near some shopping center and found this on yelp. When we arrived, we notice that the service was slow but it was because the chef was acting as our server as well. I overheard him apologizing to another customer for the wait as they were short staff and some of the workers left to buy ingredients. Even so, he was attentive when he was not cooking in the back. Food was on point! We got the Pho Lao, Boat Noodle, Nam Khao, papaya salad, angel wing, and beef laab. My sister really wanted to try the mok but they ran out of catfish but the cook offered to give my sister the chicken version to try for free. The foods were delicious. My brother is extremely picking about his boat noodle because most places make their broth sweet but not this place. He loves it and couldn't stop saying how much he loves it. Nam khao is as good as my favorite Laotian restaurants. It's inconsistent in how tangy it is, and I wonder if they might be better off serving limes on the side so that the customer can control how much they want, as it can be quite a variance. Their noodle soups were decent although not up my alley. Khao poon wasn't as rich as I'm used to, and conversely the khao piak was richer than I'm used to. I've never had khao poon with chicken feet in it, and the chicken feet were really small and flavorless. They ran out of blood cubes for the khao piak on the day we went, and substituted it with quail eggs without asking us. I didn't mind and actually preferred this change, but I feel like they should have first notified the customer before proceeding with such a significant change given the massively different flavor profile and texture between blood cubes and quail eggs. Service runs on the slower side for both dining in and takeout. They seem to be a family run business and don't have many hands on deck whenever I go, so this is something to keep in mind. read more

Based on a friend's strong recommendation, we decided to try Spicy Lao Vegas. We called ahead at lunch time on New Year's Eve to see if we could make a reservation but were told that they weren't busy yet if we could get there within the half hour. The restaurant is not very big but it's comfortable and casual. It looked like there's only one guy cooking in the kitchen and a lady running between the front and back helping out where she could. They were both very nice and friendly. And since there were six adults and a toddler in our party, we were able to sample quite a few different dishes. We ordered Pork Egg Rolls, LAAP with Shrimp, Boat Noodles, Crispy Rice "Nam Khao", Crying Tiger, Drunken Noodles, and Green Curry with Chicken. We ordered Popcorn Chicken and Fries for the toddler. They were actually out of fries and so we got extra chicken. Food was amazing and very authentic. Everything was delicious and really tasty. We were given choices for spicy level and we opted for medium. It was just about right. Our favorites were the Crispy Rice "Nam Khao" and the Drunken Noodles. Even the Popcorn Chicken was very good. We also tried their Green Thai Tea with half and half and also with coconut milk. Both were really yummy. Prices are very reasonable. The time for more Southeast Asian variety is nao. Spicy Lao is a new spot on Eastern Ave in the Island Sushi / Red Rice plaza. It replaced the underwhelming Kinnara Thai Posh but actually brings similar cuisine as Laotian and Thai food have a lot of similarities and overlaps. Crispy Rice "Nam Khao" ($16.95): a really stellar dish with a slew of contributors. The crispy rice is airy, the raw onions are plentiful, the sauce is acidic and intense, and the fermented pork sausage is not weird at all. The romaine lettuce adds a great plant crunch and lightens everything a bit, although I didn't have an issue with the mild spiciness (although I did avoid the chilis). Boat Noodles "Kuay Tiew Reua" ($15.95): not quite what I was expecting. Maybe it's the ghost of Kinnara, but it was surprisingly sweet overall despite also having plenty of savory beefiness and spices in the broth. I asked for it to be served at a spicy level of 3 out of 10, and it did make me sweat quite a bit although it didn't cover all the sweetness. Neither did the pork rinds, although they helped quite a bit. I also wish that some of the beef pieces were sliced a little thinner a la pho since they were a bit chewy. Thai Lemon Ice Tea ($5.95): I tried to ask for this to be made less sweet, but it's still a sweet drink and didn't help with the boat noodles. But it's a very nice drink, with lemon adding to the spices of Thai tea. I didn't miss the absence of milk per se, but maybe it wasn't served cold enough and/or with enough ice to make it more refreshing. There wasn't music, but they had quiet audio from World Poker Tour reruns from one TV and medium volume audio from some of the Sunday NFL games on the other TV. I appreciated that the river scene painting on the one wall particularly complemented my boat noodles. Service was in the vein of that absent Asian restaurant style, but the server responded whenever we waved him over. Spicy Lao is a very welcome addition to the near-Henderson food scene, and the crispy rice is a must-try. I'll definitely be back to track down their other truly delicious offerings. read more

So delicious!!! We ordered the crab fried rice, the tuna laap (see picture!), and massamun chicken curry, and all three were incredibly tasty. The crab was especially good. This is a newer restaurant from San Diego in the south east part of Vegas. My friend and I were craving Lao papaya salad and this place did not disappoint! We came at dinner time and it was completely empty. It was super clean and the staff were super nice and friendly taking our order. A couple other tables were sat but I noticed the staff didn't come out to check on us while we ate. I wasn't too bothered by it because my friend and I were talking and catching up but I noticed the other tables getting visibly annoyed. After a long road trip, my family and I were craving for good Lao food. Their menu has a little bit of something for everyone! We ordered a couple dishes and some appetizers and it was all delicious! My kids enjoyed the tom yum wings, perfectly cooked, and the flavor worked well. I had mee ka tee, the coconut broth was creamy and flavorful. First off, you gotta grab a Green Thai Tea or a Beer Lao to cool down because things are about to get spicy! For starters, my fav, Papaya salad. Don't @ Me, but Lao style papaya salad is my FAV! We also loved their Sai Thai Oua! Lao sausage packed with ground pork, herbs, and glass noodles. Don't even get me started on the Heavenly Beef Jerky! It's like no other jerky you've ever had. Air-dried and flash-fried to perfection, served with a special sauce. For the entrees, we went with the Crispy Rice Nam Khao The freshly made rice balls are like flavor bombs with coconut flakes, red curry, and all sorts of goodies. And if you're feeling brave, the Crying Tiger will have you tearing up in the best way possible. 7-ounce tri-tip is tossed in a crazy mix of lime juice, chilies, and herbs. To finish it all off, you can't leave without trying the Mango Sweet Sticky Rice. But the real MVP was the Lao Roti. One of my new top picks when I'm in the mood for Thai or Laotian food. What is Laotian food? In some way, it's like imagining a more authentic version of Thai food, where flavors and ingredients tilt towards more intense parts of the scale of your palette. So when we're in the mood to veer away from the experience offered by the typical Thai dishes, we'll go for Laotian food. You'll find your usual favorites seen on Thai menus elsewhere, such as different types of curries, pad Thai, crying tiger, fried rice, tom yum & tom kha soups, larb (which they spell "laap"), and refreshments such as thai iced teas and lemon iced tea. They provide a kids menu too with chicken wings, fries, popcorn chicken, pork sausage. Our table was divided between a couple parties who have high heat tolerance, and a couple of others who are spice wimps. We requested the papaya salad Laos style (which is a bit different from your run-of-the-mill Thai salad, which means it's not as bright, with a dark sauce, and it'll come with funky fresh fermented fish- alliteration!) with a spice level of 5 out of 10, but we felt it was on the milder side. There's a new Lao restaurant in town! Spicy Lao Vegas is a sister restaurant to a spot in CA. They serve Lao and Thai food. They took over a previous Thai restaurant and I think it's cool they have both cuisines. Went in kind of late and they still happily took care of us which was awesome. They had fun drinks, a pretty large menu, and prices were average. There is minimal decor but it's still nice and clean. We tried a few things: chicken noodle soup, crispy rice salad, beef jerky, Panang curry, and papaya salad. Everything was good, let the owners know for personal preference the curry was on the sweeter side. They are still in soft opening phase so can't wait to check it out again when they have their footing. Great addition to the area! I'd say it's more in the 4.25/4.5 range but solid spot read more

Finally! Laos food in Henderson! My wife and I have lived in Henderson for 3 years, and we've been waiting (and praying!) for an authentic Laos restaurant to open up nearby. Let me just say, we are beyond happy this spot is finally here! We ordered the Crying Tiger (that beef was on point), Nam Khao (so flavorful and perfectly crispy), and Drunken Noodles (packed with flavor and heat in all the right ways). We thought we'd have leftovers, but we couldn't stop eating, it was THAT good. We ended our meal with mango sticky rice (so comforting and satisfying) and a fresh coconut to cool off and cleanse the palate. Pure joy in every bite and sip. But what made it extra special was the experience. Talking with Linda made us feel like we were back home with family. The nostalgic music, the cozy vibe--everything just hit right. Today I went out with my friend. we found this cozy little Lao restaurant called "Spicy Lao Vegas." The place is feels like home -- warm, welcoming, and full of good vibes. We ordered two dishes: Nam Khao Tod (Crispy Rice Salad) and Boat Noodle Soup. Both were absolutely delicious! I've tried many Thai and Lao restaurants around Las Vegas, but this one really stands out -- flavorful, authentic, and perfectly balanced. What a cool experience! I tried the crispy rice "nam khao" and the pink milk drink. The crispy rice was great- an absolute exploration of flavor. Every bite was super flavorful! I'm a fan of fried rice and *may* have enjoyed this even more. Since I'm a spice fan I took the seeds out of the chili peppers and added them to the dish (would recommend to anyone who likes some heat). The pink milk was great to counter the heat of the dish. Food: Some days it's 5/5. Flavors and textures hit just right. Spice level hits the mark it should. Other days it's 3/5. Muted flavors, off textures, or spice level under or over what is requested...usually over. Service: Great segue from that last point. I would send back food if it were significantly missing the mark but the food takes a LONG time to come out. Longer than all other Lao spots in town. Don't expect to be in and out in under 1.5 hours when ordering for 2 or more. And this is with maybe one or two other tables occupied. The people are quite friendly and a joy to talk to, however. They are great. It's just the time it takes for food to come out after ordered is noticeably long. This was particularly disappointing when seeing staff taking shots of alcohol while we waited. Setting: No frills. Minimal. Could use some improvement but the least cause for concern given the other areas for improvement. I still come by because this is the only Lao spot in the area but not often and exclusively for take out orders. Would excitedly return more frequently if I had the confidence that I was getting the quality and timely service needed. I know this sounds like a very negative review but I'm honestly rooting for this place to succeed. The guy who took our order was super friendly and clearly does it all - seating guests, serving, cleaning, and then disappearing (pretty sure to go cook our food!). My second visit today and yet I'm disappointed again. I ordered Khao Poon and I didn't say gai this time as to not confuse the guy. Well, my khao poon was a light broth and not the curry based soup as I was craving or even pictured. So I was disappointed because I went there craving for that. So, I ate it. I'm not one to complain but I did ask him if they do not serve the curry based khao poon. He says they have a new chef everyday and some days it can be the soup and some days it can be the curry based. Then he said we do put coconut milk in there and maybe they should add more next time. I looked at him puzzled and he says did you mean the fish khao poon.m because we make chicken khao poon. I said no you can make the curry based khao poon with chicken or fish. Anyway, here's the picture they have on their menu. So I suggest you make what you list and not switch it up to your "chef" preference because it's misleading. The very first visit, I ordered and pointed to the khao poon gai but he comes out with khao piek. I also told him I ordered the khao poon not khao piek. I wasn't upset about it. I ate it and figured I'd try the khao poon next time. He still asked if I wanted the mixed vegetables. In which I was puzzled about that because the mixed vegetables goes with the khao poon not khao piek. I don't know what's going on with this server! My son got the pork sausages which he really loves. My daughter got the kids pho. She enjoyed it but when I tasted it, it was like a water down Thai boat noodle broth and super sweet very strong star anise flavoring. Definitely not Lao pho taste for me. I'd probably just do pick up for the sausage for my kids but I will go elsewhere for my Lao food fixing. Oh and I just noticed the dollar increase without telling me is sneaky AND I gave him cash. Oh man. I haven't been knocked around by spicy level 10 in about a decade, but they got me, they got me good! Eye sweats, spicy sneezes, and due to a careless finger, spicy eyeball! And let's not talk about what happened 8 hours later! Looking forward to trying a different dish this weekend, but for the first time in over a decade, I'll have to order spicy level 9! The thing about ordering high spice levels, it's not just about the heat. I want the flavor too. I want perfectly cooked food that's also super spicy. This place delivered.
