So we were out east doing summer stuff on a Sunday. We get to the point where it's time to eat dinner. Apparently on Sundays out east everything closes at 5pm. By chance we were just 10 minutes away from here when I searched "near me" on Yelp, and boy am I thankful ! We showed up and were sat right away. Such good service and friendly staff. We enjoyed some very fresh clams on the half shell while we sat in the very nice "above casual" ambience of the restaurant. Just a very nice place to enjoy a nice dinner out of the heat. After the clams, we were thinking about what high end cut of steak to get, because they were available. At this point we looked at the next table and someone had just gotten the steakhouse burger put at their plate and our minds were made! This thing was huge! We both got it and were so pleased! We have not been here since precovid, absolutely wonderful. Better than ever. Started with two coffee lovers martinis, so delicious. Followed by the crab cake appetizer, large crispy crust but a lot of breading. It was good just not the best. What was the best were the entrees. I had baby lamb chops, deliciously marinated and grilled to perfection that came with mashed potatoes and fresh steamed broccoli. My husband had Athenian chicken meatballs, huge and tender served over tender chick peas in a light tomato sauce reminiscent of beans served in Greece, so good. I don't know- I feel like some of the reviews I am reading just don't make sense. We went because I had some really good fried calamari the day before somewhere else but the portion was small and I wanted it the next day. I read this place won Best of long island for fried calamari and we went for lunch. The girl hostess was dry but I figured it was because she was about 17. The service was outstanding the waiter was really above and beyond. Thats why they got two stars instead of one. We loved him and thats where the love ends. Who are the people writing these perfect food reviews? Who is deciding on long islands best?? I am never trusting that again. The outdated decor and tables of people over 65 should have clued me in. The food was not great. It was diner level at best. I think this place is maybe about the drinks? I don't partake The calamari I read rave reviews on was strong flavored and rubbery and they must have given me the end of a batch because it was a million teeny tiny ring pieces fried, and it was never ending. No big soft fluffy rings as I imagined...no- just a plate that reminded me of the bottom of a bag of chips when there is no more full size chiPS left. The marinara was terrible so i couldn't even dunk them hard to cover the taste a little. HOW did they get this "long islands best" award?? That thing must be rigged - Worst I ever had The french onion soup was weird. it was light colored like chicken soup and was smothered in thick layer of mozzarella instead of gruyere. It was not what it normally would be elsewhere. The burger was blah with big soggy under fried steak fries. Mozzarella sticks were standard and decent with the acidic tasteless marinara. at the end we were full and hardly ate anything at all. We took it home to be polite and tossed it into the garbage. Never again. $100 with the tip for the mentioned items with two sodas. We wont be back obviously. read more

While the ambiance appeared nice at first, my experience progressively got worse. The food was decent, but extremely over priced. It seems like they're trying very hard to be an upscale, ritzy establishment, and they are not successful with it. The server was not paying attention to me or concerned about my needs because I went alone and didn't not drink alcohol. UNPROFESSIONAL BEHAVIOR: So, let me say that the food was wonderful, our server, Donna, was professional and friendly, and the drinks, well, a little less potent than in the past, but still good. We arrived promptly and were seated immediately. It was hopping: a Saturday night and every table filled. We were there about 3 hours and were just getting ready to leave when one of the old- time waiters came to our table and said loudly, "I hate to do this, but I have a party coming in and we need this table." Really? Well, if he had noticed, we were already putting on our coats and collecting our things getting ready to leave. I looked around the restaurant the almost the entire greenhouse area was...empty. There were also quite a few empty tables around us, but maybe the party requested this particular spot? This was a sour ending to what had been a great evening. We are regular customers at Spiro's and this kind of behavior from the waitstaff was unusual to say the least. The waiter should have taken one of us aside and quietly told us the table was needed. That would have been appropriate. There are better ways to deal with this situation, and they chose the wrong one. Not sure we will return anytime soon. read more

Hadn't been there in a while so I was really looking forward to a great dinner my lobster was cold as was everything else on the plate and the waitress actually touched my lobster with her hand and said it was warm and she could heat it up although I was beside myself I didn't want to wait another half hour so I chose to let my friend eat figuring I could heat it up at home and eat at my Leasure it was without a doubt the worst lobster I ever had and I had to trash it $55.00 down the garbage never again read more

I ordered the stuffed lobster and it tasted as though it had been frozen. The butter was 'old'...didn't know that was possible. Mentioned both to the server and the bus person when she asked how things were and both had less than a responsive response. Asked her to mention to the chef and she half heartedly nodded in acknowledgment. Dessert was good. Love how dimly lit the restaurant is. It is very nice inside and not too loud. We got the spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer. Nothing crazy, a large serving but not worth $18. They don't do 50% of bottles of wine on Wednesdays anymore unfortunately. My partner got the stuffed salmon which was perfectly cooked, not dry and had plenty crabmeat stuffing. I got the NY Strip, nothing crazy about it. Wish it came with some veggies. They have a large selection of cocktails and would want to try more of those. This lovely and warm restaurant was so cozy. Beautiful decor with great artwork on all the walls. We were promptly greeted and sat immediately. Out server Stamatis was so professional and prompt. My husband and I shared the oysters Rockefeller and clams casino for apps. Both of these classics were perfect. For our Entrees we had the Ribeye and the Porterhouse. Cooked to perfection. Baked sweet potatoes were a delight as well. My Spicy mango margarita as the best I've ever tasted. Generous portions as well. We will be back very soon. I didn't dine at Spiros, I only sat at he bar and ordered drinks so I can't speak on the food. However, the drinks: wow! The creativity and variety really impressed me! The drink menu is extensive. There are many different types, from classics to dessert-like to combinations I wouldn't have ever thought of. Whoever comes up with the drinks needs a raise! Atmosphere: clean, a bit trendy but not crazy trendy. No need to dress super fancy or anything like that. The bar was clean and looked well stocked. Price: we went during happy hour, which is nice to find these days! Prices were average or a bit above average for the more intricate drinks. We didn't have reservations and it looked like you didn't need them around 2pm, however the longer we stayed the more packed it got so I recommend making reservations as I assume Spiros does get quite packed especially on the weekends! My half rack of baby back ribs is has a minis only because I felt it was too saucy. The meat was actually really good and fell of the bone. Unfortunately due to the sauce, I couldn't taste the meat itself. I recommend Spiro you offer a choice. - with or without sauce/. I wish I could give 10 stars!! I've always been a big fan of Spiro's and they just keep getting better and better. I come here very often for their happy hour. They have two happy hours which is incredible. They have a huge bar section which is really nice when it gets busy during happy hour- you don't have to wait around stalking people to finish and get up. There are plenty of high tops and a very large bar. Their menu is amazing with lots of choices and I have even ordered things that are not on the menu but they make it for me! For example I've gotten an eggplant Parmesan hero that was not on the menu but they made it and they made it divine. The bartenders are so attentive, personable and always happy. read more

I am more than unhappy. I made a reservation over a month ago for the night of March 29 to celebrate a birthday. The day before yesterday I received a text requesting that I confirm my reservation, which I did. We arrived last night at 6:45 pm for our 7:00 pm reservation only to find the line out the door and to be told we had to wait an undetermined amount of time for a table even though we had a 7:00 reservation. We observed other people being seated and were told these people arrived before us....even though we arrived 15 minutes before our confirmed reservation. As Seinfeld would say the purpose of a reservation is to reserve something. It is more than obvious that this place does not honor reservation commitments and they won't miss any future business they might get from me. Eventually we wound up leaving and went to another restaurant that seemed to be happy we were there. Bon and I chose Spiro's for our Anniversary Dinner and we were glad we did! We were going to go to Maui Chop House down the road a bit but on arrival we didnt feel it had the ambiance we were looking for on this special occasion. We called Spiro's and were told come on over and we will take care of you... And we did and they did! The place is charming.. playfully gaudy in a good way...like an old time Steak House. Inside the tables were seperated with plenty of room between them. All the servers wore masks and we were comfortable. We were served by Stamatis, a real gentlemen. He took our drink order: GG shaken up with twist and Tequilla kamakaze...both potent and at that point most needed and appreciated. They also had an attached enclosed patio which was nice and had flaps that could be open in warm weather. After putting on a buzz, we ordered appys: Mussels in a wonderful sauce that was outstanding. . and the Mussels were nice and plump! also got a tremendous and delish Wedge Salad...highly recommended!! After Stamatis got our 2nd round of drinks we ordered mains: I got the special Alaskan Halibut and Bon got Swordfish with a butter garlic sauce. Both portions were huge and prepared to perfection. By this time you might think we are having a great time...and you would be right! We closed out the dinner with a large bowl of Peach Melba...also delish and a fitting end to our celebration. First time here, and we got recommended this place by friends. Unfortunately, we were completely disappointed. The chicken fingers and FRIES were not good at all, the fries tasted stale and were reheated. Spinach dip was watery and flavorless, We ordered chicken francese, it was decent at best, but the veggies and rice tasted as if it was from the supermarket, a Goya prepackaged microwaveable product. Now the NY Strip.... I wouldn't order at all. The steak was undercooked, chewy, and fatty. He left the food right on the plate. The service itself was ok, our waiter looked miserable to be there. We came to this location which was a ways for us coming from Hicksville, but birthday celebration would be taking place for a very special person, so we made the trip. Upon arriving the place did not look like anything special from the outside, but when we went in, the place was very nice, very busy and had a nice vibe to it. The bar was slammed for one end to another. Upon being seated, waiter came over right away and took our drink order. I ordered a bourbon, to warm me up. So, we ordered some apps like the scallops wrapped in bacon which I have to say they were pretty good, and we also ordered the calamari with a spicy topping with red roasted peppers, it did not disappoint. So for my main course I ordered the 24oz bone in ribeye and I was very happy, the temperature was right on the money and it was delicious, I had it with some brussel sprout concoction also very flavorful. Not one person complained about their meal. I have to say I was very happy with the service, we had a great experience and would definitely return again. read more

Our family loves to come here every year for Thanksgiving as a tradition. This year will be the last, very disappointing. 1. The Thanksgiving menu they posted online was changed last minute. Screen shot included below. They advertised Virginia Ham with 2 sides - homemade stuffing with raisins AND mashed potatoes for 45.00 The in restaurant menu listed the Virginia Ham with pineapple cranberry glaze with only 1 side - mashed potatoes and NO stuffing. Still 45.00. And if you wanted the stuffing, they had changed it to a sausage stuffing which would be charged as an extra side. When we brought discrepancy up to the waitress' attention, she said, "yeah, Spiro changed it last second." 2. My husband's ham had a nice thick glaze, while mine had nothing but a thin broth and more than half of my ham was ALL fat. See picture below. 3. We were at the 5 pm seating. Before appetizers, they announced they were already out of bread. Waitress said she could bring some warmed pita. They plopped down a dish with thin pale triangles of pita, no butter, no olive oil dip, nothing to dress the pita with. Just eat it dry with our cocktails. 4. They had a Fall Sangria, which had pear slices, cranberries and a cinnamon stick. It was very tasty. My sister-in-law and I ordered a second. Hers was all ice and some sangria, no pears nor cranberries, mine was jammed with all pears, cranberries and ice, no room for much sangria. They looked like 2 completely different drinks, and not at all like the 1st one we had. We skipped dessert, and my brother skipped his entree all together and just got the soup. He got Chinese take out on the way home. Soooo very disappointing. read more

Went to Spiros for the first time with my wife for a date night. As soon as we entered it was pretty loud but expected at a nice restaurant on a Friday night. We had a reservation at 7:45, we got there 5 min late and was sat about 5 min later. Took about 5-10 min for our waitress to come to our table, which to us isn't a deal breaker, we've also worked in the restaurant industry and it was a busy Friday night. Eventually we ordered our drinks, I was kind of bummed that mine didn't come in a martini glass since I ordered the Jack Frost martini.. it came in a short glass and didn't really look appealing. Ordered a filet mignon which was I believe $55 if I'm not mistaken?.. the first bite was soooo chewy ( I ordered it medium rare ) I had to spit out my first bite. Gave it another try and it was perfect. However, the lack of flavor disappointed me! I had to put salt and pepper on each bite. My wife ordered the fluke and it wasn't great but good. I wanted another drink since I finished mine before our entrees came but our server never asked if we needed another drink. So we had no drinks by the time our food came, we had to stop her and ask for drinks even though our empty glasses were purposely placed where she can see them. I get it was busy, but you should be able to multitask especially on a busy night. I ordered 2 other martini drinks and unfortunately, they also didn't come in a martini glass. We still had a great night, and we're also willing to give Spiros another chance. We had high expectations since we've been wanting to go here for so long. So we'll definitely be back :) read more

My first visit was recently and I really enjoyed it. Our large party made a reservation for a Friday night during a huge rain storm. To our surprise, the place was PACKED. When we got there they sat us a little late but were able to accommodate us pretty well. Our server was great. He was really nice and efficient. They also played old school R&B and old school pop all night- I really enjoyed that! They have tablets for you to browse through 100's of drinks. You have your run of the mill drinks but also really creative drinks. The drinks were all really good. I can see myself going back for happy hour. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer. They were...DIFFERENT. Not really what I expected. They seemed to have artificial crab in the or something? But ...I liked them! Not everyone in our party did, though. I got the short ribs for the meal. They were really good. They were probably up there with some of the better short ribs I've had. The mashed potatoes were nothing special nor the veggies that came with them. Overall, I probably wouldn't rush back for dinner. But I can see myself going there for happy hour more often. read more

We went here when we visited the area. It was amazing. You must definitely go if you are nearby or visiting too. We ordered the aged steak and the special which was lobster stuffed with crab meat. I can't say enough how delicious the crab meat was and how great it paired with the lobster and scallops. The aged steak was aged to perfection. That was our first time experiencing an aged steak! 100000/100000 would recommend that you order that. The service was also amazing. All the servers are very attentive to your needs and they don't get the amount of respect that they deserve, especially in COVID-19 times. So yes... Had an awful experience last night for Mother's Day dinner. We were so disappointed. 1. They "couldn't find our reservation even though we made it a week in advance. They walked us to a table- said Nevermind it wasn't for us and walked us back to the host stand - and then walked us back to the exact same table. The servers in the outside room were so loud and distracting. Not professional whatsoever- there was broken glass all under our table. I really do think it was our servers first day- so I will give him that. The food was the biggest disappointment of the night. Besides the drinks - The food was not worth the price at all. Would rather go to Paces or Blackstones. We were hoping for a memorable meal ... I would not return to this restaurant when there is so many better options for the price. :( read more
