Festering with creepy men, one who touched up my friend unwantedly. Unfortunately common at most bars, but, the bar tenders and security at Splash did nothing to help the many women we saw experiencing the same thing with other creeps. They were, however, quick to escort me out, probably because I was telling the perv to leave my friend alone. Similar to many other reviews I saw, they will just remove you. Went to see Willam from RuPaul's Drag Race (my faaaaaaaavorite) and had a great time. After a brief check in with security we went inside and ordered drinks at the cash only bar. The friendly bartender asked if we wanted large or small. I have never been asked this question at a bar before in my life so I said large of course, (because, duh) and was handed a pint glass full of vodka & soda. And with that, they won me over right away. I don't want to have to wait at the bar again for a while if I can help it so hooray.. perfect. The stage is small but we did manage to get a spot at the front rail and could see everything just fine. The go-go dancers beforehand were in amazing shape and fun to watch. Mahlae Balenciaga was the hostess for the evening and she was delightfully funny, and then there was Willam... who worked the whole room, including the platforms right in front of us. What a treat. The crowd was really nice and everyone was having a good time except for one unruly drunk later in the evening who was completely incoherent. Security was on top of their game though and escorted him out quickly and without incident. The only criticism I have is that the entrance and exit seemed to be just one door and was roped off in a manner that didn't make it clear or easy to leave and come back. Maybe that was the point.. I'm not sure... and maybe there was another door that I missed but I don't think so. Anyway, just an observation that it was a bit awkward. Either way, I would go back again for another show. my friend and I read the google reviews which were all recently pretty negative but we wanted to try the place cause we hadn't been to any gay bars in the bay yet! It wasn't that bad except the bathrooms were in bad repair and the place wasn't very clean. But the upstairs and patio are cool but you can't smoke on it. Went here on a chill Sunday evening, so I'm not sure what this place is like on a Friday or Saturday night, but I enjoyed my visit well enough. Super cheap beers, cash only. Not much seating, but it's mostly a dance bar, so a big open area is to be expected. Yes, the place is a gay bar, and it's very obvious the second you walk inside. But even if you're straight as an arrow, it's a fun place to grab a beer with a friend and people watch. They have an upstairs patio that was taken over by a ton of older guys who were clearly open about their sexuality (not doing anything perverse), and I think you would've heard a record scratch followed by a pause in the action were my friend and I to go onto the patio. Not sure if I'd stop by again TOO often. After all, I'm not the target audience. But so far, I'd have no problem coming back if I was near by. read more

First time to Splash Bar from out of town: Was pretty excited because it was my first time to an actual gay club. Drinks were pricey and COVID precautions were overly strict so we weren't able to go to the second floor club after an hour of being there. Others were able to go up to second floor, maybe they were there for longer? After drinking and chatting for a half hour, a fun song came on and I got up and started to dance but was quickly told to stay in my seat despite two other men dancing themselves on the floor. The atmosphere and music were nice but we were expecting a lot more from the night. I feel the need to Yelp about Splash since I have been a long time patron of this really "the only all inclusive LGBTQ nightclub" in San Jose. As a fem-lesbian this spot has always been a go to for a fun night out of dancing with the girls. Most gay-bars in San Jose are male orientated, but Splash has more diversity and even special "lesbian nights". Ever since Brix nightclub closed this is the only place I can call a home away from home outside of the city. Highly recommend do to the two dance floors, strong drinks, service and outside patio for smoking (if that's your thing). read more

Totally dead every weeknight, so much so that it's not even fun to pop in for a happy hour drink. I've tried 5 times, and there are always 6-7 unhappy looking patrons there when I've gone. Totally packed every weekend, but not until late. They charge a cover, usually $7 to $10, which is funny when most of the good bars in San Francisco are $0 to $3. I kinda adore Splash. I've now been there a couple times on a couple Fridays and had a fantastic time both nights! I tend to get there early-ish and thus usually take advantage of the double drink happy hour special, which makes the dancing easier, because while Meg's love to dance dancing in heels can be hell without a little help from my sex on the beach friends. The biggest positive for me with this space is the music choice. It's a fantastic mix of recent hits, classic club hits and newer stuff I'm not as up on and I LOVE that they have two dance floors that are actually separate from the bar section. I haven't been there during crush hours but I can imagine that less people get tripped on while trying to get drinks due to this layout. My awesome tipping point is the outside area, which is gorgeous and really nice to either cool down or admire the somewhat stars. We wanted a place to grab some drinks before heading out to see Family for dinner on Saturday, December 24th. We almost bypassed this place, because we wanted a bar and not a "club". However, as we walked by we noticed that it was quite empty (probably because it was early and Christmas Eve). We are glad we stopped in. They were running Happy Hour when we arrived at 6pm. We had buy 1, get 1 cocktails, which we took advantage of 2x. It was quiet; however, the bartender who was on duty was very friendly, warm, personable and an overall great employee with superior customer service skills. His name was Jacob. We hope to return to Splash again the next time we are in San Jose. read more

I'm getting over this place pretty fast. The music is always WAY too loud to have a conversation (even with like 3 patrons in the bar they still blast it) and there are rarely ever enough people here to consider dancing. I came for the Monday $1 drink special but didn't see any posters up for it, so after being ignored by the bartender for a while I asked, "This is the $1 wells night, right?" He said yes, I ordered two vodka drinks, he made them and said it was $4. WTF? I JUST asked if it was $1 wells!! Don't get me wrong, $2 drinks are still a great deal--I'm annoyed with the service, not the price. A more service-oriented bartender would have said something. ***UPDATE*** The bartender contacted me after reading this review, explained that the extra $2 was for Redbull as a mixer, and apologized for not telling me at the time. I can understand now why he wouldn't mention it since people rarely ever order a drink for the first time, this just happened to be the case. No more grievance with the service, but my point about the music still stands. Initially there was a line at the bar so we waited there and as more people came in they started going next to the line to get drinks. I have gone to this bar for years and I love it! As a straight woman I am not only welcomed but also feel safer going here than any of the neighboring straight bars, especially by myself. I love the karaoke nights, drag performers, and Thursday 90s/00s nights! I especially appreciate all this bar and the amazing people who work there do to keep us safe. As someone who is attending this bar 2-4 nights per week (depending on the week) I want to feel safe in a post Pulse Night Club world... especially considering the climate of our society right now. I recently started coming here during the week. The first time I came I asked the bartender for 1 drink. However, he began to make two. My friends went over to tell him I only ordered one. He continued to make the second drink & charged us for it. I decided to give it another chance this past week. I first ordered drinks down stairs.. we ordered kamikaze shots... I went to pound it when I realized... they were made without ice & were super difficult to drink. Never have I ever had a hot ass kamikaze shot. I ordered 3 drinks upstairs & the bartender made FOUR! Again, we were charged. Not only were we charged for 4, but the drinks weren't made correctly! We ordered Washington apples (whiskey, apple puckers, & cranberry). Instead we were given vodka and apple puckers! Later in the night I go to order another round upstairs. My friend was going to leave a $5 bill for a tip & I was paying for the round. I handed my friend $2 and he gave me the $5 bill to give to the bartender. The bartender then began to seriously yank the $2 I just handed my friend! I tried to explain it wasn't his but he took it and walked away with it!!!!! Later on we decided to order with another bartender who was super sweet. Overall, it's a fun venue & the people who attend are super nice & fun. However, a few employees are super rude & do not listen to what is being ordered or they simple don't care. read more

I came during grand opening weekend and I was dead tired from being at the San Jose Gay Pride Festival, but honey I was glad I was dragged out to Splash! The rennovations are fantastic! If you are familiar with the old layout, this new layout has a better flow and thought process to it. It still has two dancefloors and two bars, but I feel like it's easier to access both lower and upper floors. The ONLY reason why this review is 4 stars and not 5 stars was because the drink prices were WAAAAAAY JACKED UP high during Pride weekend. However, rest assured during regular season drinks are cheap as heck. For example one the nights will feature a $3 Long Island Night as well as a happy hour that allows you to buy one cocktail and get your second cocktail for only $1! Say what? Amazing sauce! Last note: They removed the fire place on the outdoor patio! Awwww. Other than that it's worth to check out for a great time! There are different strokes for different folks. This bar has a friendly atmosphere and the bar employees are like family. They are always happy to see me and others I've noticed around the bar. There are different nights that cater to different people of the LGBTQ if you want to know what nights are what look at there Facebook. They update often and promote for at least a month out. If you prefer a smaller friendlier type setting probably best to go Tuesday-Thursday if you want a more crazy fun night Friday, Saturday, and Monday is the best time. They are the only venue that books RuPaul girls in San Jose on a regular basis. But keep in mind those nights will be packed. The VIP is truly a picture and a signature from the queen. They do sell merch but it's there own and all profits go to the queens. I have read reviews and I would like to say, if you go in thinking SF would be better then go to SF pay a crazy amount for a Uber or have the fear of a DUI. If you are upset it's cash only there are signs posted on almost every window. There are other signs saying they don't allow certain things in i.e big bags, accessories that could be weapons, out side food or drink (includes candy) if you are in from out of town remember we all have are favorite watering holes and the locals have already created a bond with the staff. Bartenders are human and get excited to see a familiar face so may sway to them first. Also it's a 5 bartender bar so they can only go so fast. It is a dance bar so the music will be loud so keep in mind when ordering. To end this I would like to say this is a safe place for the LGBTQ yes we have a fair amount of straight woman that like to attend but remember they feel safe. If some one who works here has a attitude it's on them not the bar as a whole.
