Customer service......went in for pedicure and facial wax. Pedicure was ok, nothing special. Ordered the deluxe. When it came to filing and spacing my nails didn't understand that nails needed cut down and filed even and to buff surface adequately. Polish was lumpy. When I spoke up was told it was my nails by the manager vs the nail tech layering polish correctly. Was given option to remove polish. Manager completed task but was moving with aggression and visibly unhappy that I just didn't accept the polish given. Did refile and reshape my nails. Left without my wax. It's a no from me..... well this place went downhill.....what the heck happened?!? I decided to go back since it's conveniently located and I won't be returning...overpriced, lack of skill, and they make up stuff as they go, 1 person says one thing the other says the opposite. Too expensive to deal with shoddy work and info, one of my nails popped off after only 3 days, and I paid $50 just for the nails.... also my pedicure was chipped within 48 hours.... Awesome Eyebrow Waxing & Shaping! It took me until i was 21yrs old to finally get my eyebrows waxed. I seriously have the bushiest eyebrows, but dreaded the pain of getting it done. So, since I turned 21 i've been getting my eyebrows done professional & let me say that I've gone to MANY salons and they either shaped my brows like a McDonald arch or i barely have any eyebrows left. However, at Splendid Salon they did an AWESOME job! Kelly, Eyebrow specialist did an amazing job on shaping my eyebrows where i did not have to "fill in the blanks." My brows looked very naturally and i love that its very low maintenance. I also decided to get my hair trimmed while i was there and it was VERY inexpensive. I REALLY love how my hair looked & it didn't cost me a fortune so i gave her a big tip....it was a definitely win-win for everyone! The best part is I informed my stylist what i wanted and how much to cut & she did it exactly as i requested. It really drives me nuts how I tell other stylists to cut 2" and instead i get 4" chopped off...it actually pisses me off! The salon is very professional & clean inside. Their massage chair looks very comfortable and i intend to come back to get my manicure & pedicure done when i have time to enjoy their chairs. I would recommend anyone who wants to save money and go to a full-service salon...it can be such a pain to have to drive to so many locations, especially w/this economy where it can get pretty expensive w/the cost of gas. Where do I begin.... although the owner has such good intentions and truly aims to please, this shop falls short on so many levels (in part because all of the employees are family members). I scheduled an appointment for a gel manicure & basic pedicure; Upon arrival I was told to select my colors and was only shown 1 small revolving rack of nail colors (only to find out later that there's another section of colors on a back wall). I also noticed while trying to choose between pink, more pink, and did I mention pink? that some of their basic nail colors had an upcharge! What IS THAT?! It's not gel so why increase the price? I was greeted with lukewarm (almost cold) basin water for my feet, asked if I wanted some wine or beer to which I replied red wine, only to be given white wine. Ehhhh. The gal who proceeded to do my pedicure was distracted the whole time, talking over her shoulder to her cousin for 85% of the time, which truthfully is fine because I don't wanna be talked to so fine, talk away to someone else but if you're gonna do that, maybe make sure you get all the polish removed from my previous pedicure. Also, when you do finally decide to acknowledge me, don't start telling me about how you need $1000 to fly back home to see your dying grandmother who you haven't seen in five years. I'm there for a pedicure, you'll get your tip and it isn't going to afford you an airline ticket to another country, sorry! Next was my gel manicure which honestly the gal seemed nice and knowledgeable. She took her time but doing what I have no clue. She only painted two coats of a super sheer light pink which was so iridescent that my husband didn't even realize I had gotten my nails done. Did I mention the gal chose my color? She also failed to process the gel correctly so it never fully hardened so I've had soft polish ever since, which means it immediately started peeling. There was also no amazing hand/arm rub or foot/leg rub like I'm accustomed to receiving, maybe this just isn't included in their standard pricing structure. Oh and this gal also had some backstory too; migraines that have cost her thousands of dollars to diagnose and treat. All in all I paid about $85 for a pretty crummy experience. My appointment was at 12:30, I left at almost 3pm (they are that slow) and walking out I kept asking myself whether they were trying to scam me into giving them extra money for their foreign travels and medical treatments or if their luck really is just that bad. It's too bad the owner doesn't hire some outside help because this shop is on a busy corner with direct bus line access for those who take public transit. Their prices aren't bad & the shop was clean. It has potential! read more

Very nice ladies, but clearly not trained in pedicures. To sum up our experience: -clippers and files dropped on the floor, put right back into the basket to use on clients. -the baskets holding their tools are stored on the ground. -the woman doing my toes didn't know how to use clippers, so she filed my toenails down with the edge of the file against the skin on top of my toes until she broke skin. In their defense, my lady changed out my tools once I stopped her (after she put a fallen clipper back in the toolbox). I was also offered water, there was lots of smiling and friendliness, and the shop was super busy so good for them. For me personally, I can paint my own toenails, you know? What I pay them for is to shape my nails so that they are healthy and comfortable for the next two weeks. The manicure was great, paint job-wise. Very happy with that! read more

I never expected stellar service, but was surprised when it was even worse than I thought it would be. I was also shocked that this salon would cost almost as much as my favorite high end nail salon in the pearl. My friend and I walked in to get manicures and pedicures on a Sunday right at opening. We weren't greeted for a few minutes, and when we were, the lady was short and sounded annoyed. She started with my pedicure even though my friend was getting shellac nails done and then tried to sell me on extras for my pedicure to make up the time "because I'd be waiting for her." I had to ask her 3x to tell me how much the spa pedicure would cost before she finally told me, at which point I told her I'd rather wait with my friend. She then proceeded to clip my big toe cuticle so deeply that I was bleeding for a good 2 minutes. She never once apologized as she applied pressure and tried to stop the bleeding for a couple minutes. She didn't ask me how I wanted my nails shaped (on fingers or toes) and clipped 2 of my nails really short leaving the rest longer for no apparent reason. My foot and hand 'massages' might have been the worst I've ever received at a nail salon. From what I could tell, my friend had a much better experience. And I recognize that everyone has bad days, but after my experience I will drive down to the Pearl or even to Broadway and get much better service for the same price. I happened to be next door at Hot Lips and needed to do my nails, so I figured I would give it a try. The people there speak English well enough to understand what you want, but they still speak to each other in vietnamese, which in my book is a no-no. Midway to the manicure, they asked me to pay, so it wouldn't ruin the polish at the end, that was weird, but I can see how they thought was helpful. The next day when I woke up I noticed I had a lot of little holes on my hands, like little bubbles that popped overnight. Since I don't have that anywhere else on my body I assume that was something that happened at this salon. Obviously I won't be back. read more

I had a great experience at Splendid Salon. I made an appointment and my deluxe pedicure started right on time. For $35 you get a sugar scrub, hot stone massage, feet wrapped in hot wax, regular massage, hot towel service on your legs, plus, everything a normal pedicure involves. I was sore from an Xtend Barre class that morning, so this hit the spot. The service was great and friendly. They're talkative if you want to talk, but otherwise they just hunker down and get your pedicure done. The deluxe pedicure lasts about 1 hour. They also asked me if I wanted to do my manicure at the same time or just relax and do one at a time. Since I was not in a hurry, I opted to enjoy the relaxing massage chair. I loved it and loveee that they take their time (these things are expensive and you want to feel relaxed!) and I'll definetly be back in a few weeks to get some festive colors before my Christmas vacation! read more

MOST of my experiences have been good. I have never had a problem getting my eyebrows done - all the stylists are good about not making my eyebrows pencil thin. I had my hair cut there by an older stylist. She seemed to run the place. She was amazing. She asked me what I wanted, made sure I was happy, etc... all the things hair dressers are supposed to do. I went again because I was happy with my services and some other girl cut my hair. She was useless. I'm not sure how she has a job. She looked at herself the entire time she cut my hair and didn't do anything I wanted. Basically told me how I needed to do my hair, treating me like I don't know my own hair. Then just started moosing it without asking if I even liked what she did or showing me the back of my head. I had to stop her to cut some bangs for me, which I asked for a couple of times. Then she moosed me more and was like okay you're done. I got home and my bangs are complete crap! I HAD TO FIX THEM. And the left side of my hair was an inch longer than the right side. If I go back for a hair cut that girl will not be touching my hair. I hope someone at the business actually reads this, because she is useless. read more

What can I say... they offer $11 hair cuts (soon to be $12 if not already) for men. They also have a buy 10 get 1 free punchcard typed system. If you're looking for a high quality hair cut, you would not come to a place called "Splendid Salon" nor step foot in there. The people here are nice and pleasant. If you get really lucky, there is one woman, no clue on her name, who cuts your hair and gives you a quick head massage, very nice touch. OK so I'm almost there on my punch card! I'm totally a sucker for those damn marketing ploys. I've had my fair share of really bad hair cuts but I would never say any of the ones I've gotten here were anywhere near bad. I know it's not a glowing review but hey, it's the "Splendid Salon"! Some were aiight, some were not so aiight. I say give em a shot if you're in the mood for a quick fix to get that mop on your head trimmed. Worst cased scenario, on the way, out you can pick up some vodkha next door and drink your sorrows away when your friends are laughing at your bad hair cut at the bbq. I love love love this family business. Hannah and her team are super flexible and accommodating, always fitting me in the schedule when they can. It's a really nice gesture to call ahead and make an appointment with them. I can tell they appreciate the opportunity to plan for your visit, as they don't like turning away walk-ins. I've come here a few times because the salon is right next to my work. I've had Nancy and Wendy do pedicures and have always had a great experience! I lovelovelove to get rainbow toes with each toe a different color which they happily do for me. When I was in a time crunch, Wendy was able to do my full pedicure with massage and everything in just an hour. Nancy gave me extra coat of polish and top coat to make sure my toes look perfect. Their mid-weekdays are slow & Christy was able to do my fill right away. She was very nice and talked but not too much. By far the nicest looking, best English speaking nail salon I have ever been to! My 2 friends and I walked in with no appointments from 3 mani/pedis yesterday afternoon. I expected at least a little wait, but they were ready for us in 5 minutes! They had great brands of polish (a plethora of OPI-- go big or go home) and hair products and polish priced reasonably! ($7 OPI sale-- a bargain!). The place was very clean and not tacky like a lot of nail salons can be. It was also all women, which I kind of liked. The men can sometimes be a little more awkward. It was $33 for a mani/pedi ($1 off if you bring your own 'box' of nail file/scrubber). They offered a great variety of nail services. I will for sure be back here again! read more

I always noticed how they would always do anything to make the white customer feel welcomed, but I never got that treatment. Well I've had it today I was simply ignore and I am letting all the African American men and women, find another place where you will be treated fairly, because you are not going to get it there. This is a middle of the road-review, and here is why; I live in the neighborhood and needed my polish changed and an acrylic fill asap, and they were able to fit me in within about 20 minutes. That was a plus, but while I waited I got a pretty good chance to look around... I am a stylist, so I am familiar with how your facilities should look and operate as far as safety codes go. I noticed several clear signs that the space was not well-kept, and that can be a huge issue when it comes to nails and infections if stations are not kept clean. It was busy so I chalked it up to that, and hoped that by my turn they would have a clean station and properly sterilized implements. Unfortunately, I was ushered to a station that already had a used cotton ball with polish on it, and fragments of acrylic from the previous client still clinging to the towel. When my technician sat down to do my nails, she worked right around all of that stuff, and I was really disappointed. She was a bit rough with my fill also, using the Dremel tool to sand down the surface of my nail, she was too close to the skin a few times, or used it for too long on naked nail and burned me. She also wasn't great about in-between steps, as she rushed along. I scrubbed my hands three times when it was time to wash, just to make sure there wouldn't be any grit in my polish when it came time to paint them. The end result was actually great, however, which is why I feel so conflicted. I think that the shop needs to be visited by an inspector in order to get serious about code, the tech needs to brush up on her cleanliness and client-care, but overall my nails look great. Did I catch them on a bad day or did I dodge a bullet when I didn't catch a nail fungus? I'm not sure if I should return to find out, and that's a huge bummer because I would really appreciate a nail salon close to home. read more

While my hairdresser (who never introduced herself and seemed more interested in speed than style) assured me over and over that she had "long experience" in haircutting, she totally butchered my hair. I didn't expect my $15 haircut to be flawless, but now I am stuck with hair that sticks out on both sides, is uneven, and lumpy while I wait for it to grow out enough to pay someone else to fix it. I am terrified to go back to this salon to ask them for assistance. This was the second worst haircut in my life. I gave myself the first. There was no consultation. This place used to be okay. My last few visits have been disappointing. This past weekend was the worst. I got a pedicure and the gal who did it seemed absolutely bored and could care less. She breezed through it in 15 minutes, cut my cuticle so it bled and gave me a foot massage that was more just an application of lotion - no deep rub. Callous removal is an additional $5. WTF? This used to be part of a standard pedicure here and is everywhere else. I have been going here for years. However, the quality has been slipping from okay to poor over the past year or two. I read good reviews and this place is close by so I thought I would give it a try. Pros: inexpensive, no appointment necessary Cons: Not a very good eyebrow wax. Not very good at all. I don't know who did the waxing as she never introduced herself. The waxing station is a shampoo bowl so she is standing on your right side and you are turning your head so so she can do the left side. After I was seated she cleaned up the used waxing supplies from the previous client that were in and around the shampoo bowl. There was no consultation. She was ready to drop some wax on my brow and I had to stop her and tell her what I actually wanted. I asked for a mirror as she was working so I could provide feedback and she said I could have a mirror when she was finished (she wasn't rude - may have been more of a communication issue). She waxed below the brow - and then razored above - which looks bad and I imagine won't grow back too well either. My brows are shapeless and uneven but it only cost $9. read more

I have been here several times and always had a mediocre job done, but kept coming back because it's close to my house. But a few months ago I went in to get my nails done around 4 pm and was told they had no one who could do gel nails or shellac for the rest of the night and to come back the next day instead. They didn't close till 7 and there was no customers in the store and about 4 or 5 employees sitting around doing nothing. I find it hard to believe that out of 5 employees not one could do such a basic service. Or that a nail salon wouldn't have one person able to take a client 3 hours before they close. Have gone here twice (for pedicures), and had good experiences both times. My only complaint would be that when I pay for a MASSAGE, it's probably best if you actually massage! Felt more like just lightly rubbing oil and lotion into my skin. Other than that- awesome! Ladies there are really nice, and do a good job. Place seems clean, and unlike some other reviewers I noticed that they did seem to do a good job keeping everything clean/sanitized/etc. I'll definitely be returning again! read more

No appointment needed, they were super friendly, and very sanitary. 22 bucks gets you a lovely foot/leg salt scrub, and newly painted tootsies. The massage chairs were an added bonus.
