Spoke & Hub has been a place I been wanting to try for a while considering how much my coworker raves about this hot spot on government street. My partner and I came here for restaurant week which we were ecstatic for! First thing first was the location is on government street which is a very trendy area. We ordered a variety of things such as the sweet and stout, blueberry flapjack cake, vanilla soft serve with blueberry cobbler to start off with. For the entrees we got from the restaurant week menu the shrimp scampi, the savory croffle (with the egg on the side), and lastly the shrimp and grits. Sweet and stout- My partner wasn't a huge fan but I loved it considering I'm a huge stout guy, having that blended into a milkshake was such a decadent drink to have during this meal. Bluberry Flapjack cake- was really good and recommended by the waitress, soft and sweet along with the consistency of a pancake but lighter made it a great dessert to have. Vanilla Soft serve with blueberry cobbler- was okay nothing special in my opinion but it wasn't bad , the cobbler was more on the tart side and the soft serve was pretty good. Shrimp scampi- was not good at all, I'm not picky when it comes to pasta but it definitely had me scratching my head when eating it. The pasta was very bland and extremely oily, the flavor wasn't there as well as the shrimp lacked it as well. Savory Croffle- I mainly came to this restaurant for the croffle which I heard about and wanted to try but this definitely left me very lackluster as well. The croffle was basically burnt to where it tasted bitter, I can deal with slightly burnt but it was more burnt then I would have liked it to be. The avocado spread on top of it was very very acidic, like as if they added quadruple the portion they should have of lemon juice unless its suppose to be like that. Shrimp and grits- Ah yes the saving grace to the meal, not much needs to be said about this dish. The dish was very good, shrimp seasoned very well in this dish as well as the grits had a lot of flavor as well. The grit cake was cooked very well with the dish as well. Overall I would come back to update my score, considering one of the dishes that was lackluster was a restaurant week dish which I assumed isn't a regular menu item. We showed up for Sunday brunch shortly after Spoke and Hub opened last year and sat on the patio. We were quickly seated before the brunch rush (thank goodness because it was a RUSH). We ordered some mimosas and dig into the menu. I immediately couldn't contain my excitement because there were scotch eggs on the menu! I'm a huge fan of this fried sausage covered egg masterpiece but it's not a common occurrence on many menus. When it arrived, the scotch egg was crunch perfection, served on a bed of arugula with a herby dipping sauce. So yummy. (Edit: I've since learned it's no longer on the menu, but it was fun while it lasted :() For an entree, because I cannot say no to Oysters ever, I had the oysters Benedict. It was a Benedict in its best form executed to perfection with biscuit, piled with fried oysters, topped with a fried egg and a hollandaise drizzle. ‍ I ate every bite! I really, really want to like Spoke & Hub, but I was really, really on the fence about whether to give three or four stars. Spoke & Hub has a wonderful location. The staff are clearly enthusiastic about the restaurant and provide excellent service. The decor is hip and fun. And the menu has good options on it. Our meals have been good, but not great. The presentation has been bland, and the chef seems to miss opportunities to spice up the food (sometimes figuratively, sometimes literally) to create an eye-popping (and taste-bud sating) experience. We'll probably go back because we really want to believe that Spoke & Hub will become a Government Street establishment as others have. I'd love to see the kitchen rise to the occasion, because I know they can. read more

Fried green tomatoes: 4 for $16 or so, overpriced IMO for what you got, again, they were good but nothing spectacular in terms of flavor. Chicken & croffles: chicken was good, however it was pretty basic and wished it was a bit more flavorful/different somehow. Egg biscuit: basic. Sweet croffle: presentation was excellent & would say this was the star, would get it again with all the fruit! Pancake: great option to get with whip & sprinkles for kids, my daughter liked it. Service: it took quite a long time to get our order taken for some reason, although didn't seem particularly busy. I think maybe there were only two servers? First timer and it was SO good! This used to be Bistro Byronz, and they completely re-did it for a whole different atmosphere. This was such a cute but modern diner, with a dessert bar! Plenty of seating inside or outside and they have a back bar! I got take out for dinner, and I got the spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwich didn't have much on it, which I liked, so it just had a spicy sauce and pickles... the bun was delicious! I love how the fries were curly fries, they are my favorite! And different from other restaurants around there. I also got a piece of cake. That day was Death by Chocolate, and oh man it was so good! I think I got lucky.. chocolate cake is my favorite. For takeout, I love how the co trainers they put the food in LOL! The open yet inviting and fun feel is perfect for a casual dining experience with family or friends! We were looking for a brunch option and Spoke & Hub hit the spot! We have been waiting for the perfect day to try out Spoke and Hub, and Sunday's gorgeous sunny weather made it the perfect patio day. We arrived around 10:30 and it was already pretty full. The first thing you see if the beautifully expanded patio with lots of different sized tables. Our party of four was immediately seated, and staff quickly saw the sun had moved over the seats, so they got an extra umbrella to shade our group. Our server, Jeremy, was great and very attentive. He made some excellent recommendations and ensured we had what we needed and also gave us the time we wanted to look over the menu. He admitted they were a little short staffed that day due an ill employee, but honestly, until they really filled up closer to noon, we didn't even notice. I ordered the bloody mary, and it has an array of delicious spices I was not expecting. They garnish the glass with a huge sprig of rosemary. If you prefer a spicier bloody mary, you may want to mention to add some spice to it or see if they can make it special for you. This was delicious. Our table also ordered a very reasonable bottle of bubbles to enhance our brunch. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and it came with a creamy sauce, perfectly cooked grits, large and perfectly cooked shrimp, some microgreens garnishing the dish, and a nice piece of cornbread. The cornbread was a little dry for my liking, but i imaging some people would like to soak it in the dish. My friends ordered different things - a scotch egg with their own twist on it. The soft boiled egg wrapped in boudin and then fried. Two shared that as an appetizer and were raving about it. Another friend ordered a croffle - like a mix between a croissant and waffle. Hers was sweet, but they have a few savory ones. Seems like a cute take on brunch, and it may have to be ordered in the future. Lastly, a couple of friends ordered an oyster/egg dish. I didn't quite catch the name of it, but there were sizeable fried oysters with fried eggs on top, and perhaps sitting on biscuits. They said it was full of flavor and delicious. Just crumbs were left on their plates. As for the renovations, I liked the brightening up of the space. It does look like they removed a good bit of indoor seating, but the expanded patio and the relocation of the bar in addition to the coffee bar area account for part of that. Additionally, the speakeasy area will be the one we will go to next. It is just on the other side of the building from the entry and patio, and I'm excited to see what fun we can have there. Great job, and definitely a place to put on your list. (they are still a younger establishment, so there are kinks, and as with most restaurants these days, they will have some staff issues from time to time. I was excited to try this new place. The interior is inviting and well done. The bicycle theme is well done. I had the BR hot chicken "croffle." It was alright. The croffle is a croissant/waffle. It did look/taste like a mixture between a croissant and a waffle. It was OK, but not great. The hot chicken was also only OK. I have had hot chicken from several places, and this one did not quite match up. Several of the other menu items sounded tasty, so I think I would like to go back and try other things. Came here for lunch with a group of colleagues on a Monday. We were promptly seated. Forewarning: the menu has a lot - breakfast, burgers, salads, and more. Our group was starving and opted to order a little bit of everything. The Fried Green Tomatoes were so good- delicious gravy and the fry + seasoning was perfect. My triple napkin pot roast sandwich left something to be desired ... from the wilted vegetables, lack of gravy, or strange sweet potatoes (I should have gotten the onion rings like everyone else!) My colleagues all seemed to enjoy their meals. In fact, one said the Gouda grilled cheese was the best grilled cheese she had ever had. The service is what bumped this rating to a 4... our server was phenomenal. Attentive, warm, and had personable. Nice restaurant. I like visiting local establishments over the chain names. I was able to book reservations via the restaurant's website. I'm glad I did because the restaurant was busy. I didn't see any parking but a sign said there was parking further down. We ended up parking there in a gravel lot and walked through a cute walkway to the restaurant. Our food was pretty good. My little one enjoyed her chocolate chip pancakes. My husband had the breakfast that included eggs, hash browns, meat and biscuit. He added 2 pancakes. He enjoyed the hash browns the most. I want to like this place and I probably will hopefully after another visit. The goods...atmosphere inside and out is very nice and cozy. We sat outside this morning since it was a beautiful day. Loved seeing other families stop in and patrons with their pups. Food was pretty dang good which is the main reason we visit these places right?! Our server was very nice and polite. For the concerns..Service could have been more fluid..there seemed to be an obvious disconnect between the servers, kitchen, and hostess. When we were sat we had to ask for our silverware and sugar for my coffee on multiple occasions. Waiter was apologetic but also threw the hostess under the bus for not providing us with any silverware. My son's pancakes came out wrong but we didn't make a deal out of it. The food seemed to take a while to come out. I know sometimes chicken can take a while to fry but this was looong. There was also a family that sat across from us that was sat and didn't get greeted by a server for about 10-25 minutes. Being in the restaurant business for years it made even me feel uneasy. Right when I was gonna get up to inform the hostess that there might not be a server assigned to that table the gentleman sitting there addressed it himself. Just super awkward, they seemed easy going though so it all faired well in the end it seemed. Great food, great retro vibe, great time! Stumbled across this place while in Baton Rouge for my nephew's soccer tournament. I grew up on diner food with the family, this was an awesome take on the concept that pulled at my heartstrings. They have all day breakfast and a weekly special menu. This place has an imaginative cocktail menu including boozy milkshakes and beer floats, a dessert bar that serves up homemade cakes and pies, hearty food with fresh seasonings and quality ingredients, and all star customer service. Amber and Alyssa took great care of us and made great recommendations. My experience was great! I recommend making a reservation because the secret is clearly out about this hidden gem but they do take walk ins. Next visit will be my fourth trip but my favorite breakfast dish so far is the Fried Chicken Biscuit. The portions are huge. The shrimp and grits done their way is unique and the hash brown bowls are massive. You will be satisfied. I like the Rest-stop FruitCup Cocktail and the Matcha Green Russian for cocktails. The manager came over because the order was wrong and the food took so long. His name is Brent and he could not have care less. He has a "what would you like for me to do about it" attitude. All we wanted was to fix the order mistake. We did not ask for anything discounted or free. Also, in my brisket sandwich, I found a bone that was about 2 inches long. Quite surprising and awful. The server Amber was very nice and tried hard to make things good for us. All of the food was a B- maybe even a C. I cannot imagine why people rave. Extremely average and the manager is terrible. I had shrimp scampi and the dish was extremely oily I could see a pile of oil under the pasta. The shrimp was seasoned well but the pasta barely had any salt and the oil was just overwhelming. I also got Croffle Savory and it seemed the chef mixed a bunch of lemon juice in the avocado it was so sour I barely had a bite. The waffle was also burnt. Set up a happy hour date with a couple of work friends hoping to take advantage of the good fall weather and patio. Unfortunately it rained earlier that day but fortunately, this place is like Russian nesting dolls in terms of seating. There's the patio(back and side), the restaurant, the back bar, and a secret bar. I believe there are even two chairs at the dessert bar. We had fun at the back bar. Bartender was helpful in answering our questions as we made the drink selections. We had the hibiscus/champagne drink, a frozen margarita, and one of the red wine blends. You know the drinks are reasonably priced when two out of three choose a non happy hour cocktail during happy hour. We also split some of the debris (my word) fries and fried green tomatoes. Much to my surprise the fries tasted better than they looked. The pot roast gravy was tender and tasty. They were generous with the cheese but it started perfectly melty and ended up quasi solid. The fried green tomatoes were also good. Were they as perfectly crisp fried as.the sister location Rouj Creole's eggplant, no. But they were good and when I reheated a day later, still not too bad. Bathroom was decent. I will definitely be back as I had a good time but didn't even partake in some of the more popular aspects of the place like the breakfast options and the patio. Today must have been an off day as we've so enjoyed our visits in the past. We waited 20-30 min for a mostly empty restaurant while staring at corners that hadn't seen a broom in what seemed like a while (spider in webs and all). We were denied a booth as it was too far for the server that needed to be seated next. We both ordered burgers, me a patty melt and my husband the BBQ burger. The patty melt came out overcooked, greasy, and on severely undertoasted bread that just soaked up the grease. The onion rings also seemed like they were sitting for a while as everything was just slightly lukewarm. My husband also never got his second drink, though they tried to charge us for it. I had a time at Spoke and Hub... I'm sad that I forgot to take pictures. First of all, our server understated the pancakes, they were bigger than she claimed and delicious! I had the gluten-free pancakes, and I was so worried they would not be good...they were so good! The sausage was a bit salty but paired well with the syrupy sweet pancakes...it balanced out. My eggs were cooked perfectly to a soft scramble like I like them, and overall, my food experience was dynamic. The atmosphere is quaint and cute with pictures of antique bicycles and antique bikes posted on the walls. It's a small space but still easy to maneuver around. I didn't get to see the bathroom...I usually like to check to make sure they are ADA-compliant, but I was having such a good time with my company, and the servers were a hoot. Found this place on yelp and me and my bestie went check it out! The place is so cute and the servers, hostess, and managers were so nice. We came in and there was a 45 min wait. We sat at the bar and ordered mimosas and the spinach queso (YUM). The manager came talk to us behind the bar and she was so cool! I missed her name, but she helped with our customized order. I got chicken and grits instead of shrimp & my friend got the spicy burger but instead of brioche bread, waffle bread. BOTH YUM. 5 star service because we even offered to show us the "speak easy" that opened at 3. She gave us a personal mini tour and it was so cool. My friend even got to shoot a mini vlog in there.
