we wandered in sunday afternoon to rent bikes. i actually had a reservation but they didnt take a credit card number or anything. it was pretty laid back. we thought my cousins baby would sit in a trailer but he ended up being afraid so we had to put the trailer on and take it off. the people were pretty patient with us. we biked around town and back for about an hour. just $10 an hour! pretty nice way to explore. read more

My husband and I rented bikes here for our New Year's Eve winery tour. We were going to ride straight up Dry Creek Road stopping at vineyards along the way and then turn around and come back, but the person who helped us recommended taking West Dry Creek at least one way which has less traffic and was more exciting/interesting than riding down the same street twice. We had such a great ride thanks in large part to her advice! Also, it was only $30 to rent a bike for the whole day! Thanks, Spoke Folks!! Choosing a new bike is not easy, and although I did all the research and test rides everywhere I still ordered the wrong bike and wasn't happy with it when it came. Gotta say that this is arguably the best bike shop in Sonoma County. GREAT VALUE: From Spoke Folk, I bought a Ksyrium wheelset (Elite) two years ago. They gave me a great deal, including new tires and tubes from Mavic. Better yet, for two years these wheels have been like riding on rails -- sooo smooth. SUPER SERVICE: Last week I realized I needed professional help to get rid of a squeak, probably in chain. Yes, they swapped the chain and cleaned up my over-lubed drive train (derailleurs, freewheel cassette and crankset). And they were kind enough to do this all within 15 minutes of closing. They also gave me a heads up that I will soon need a new cassette as I went a little too long before servicing. :-) A large assortment of accessories (like safety LED lights, jerseys, etc.) makes it a super destination for birthday or Christmas gift shopping for a favorite cyclist. read more

Great shop. Not perfect -- but great. Michael the owner knows his wheels Here is what I appreciate: -- they sell real bikes, not just racing bikes. Bromptons that fold, Hybrids that are truly practical, Breezers that breeze. -- they rent bikes. A real PITA business, but they do it pretty well. -- killer location, near some great rides. Google 10 best rides in Sonoma if you need ideas. Did half of them and thought it terrific. -- they offer deals. A screamer discount on a cool bike in fact, that I won't repeat here. -- they try hard and care. Swapped an uncomfortable bike for a comfortable one with no fuss at all. -- they are mostly careful, which matters. Michael caught an error I made on a bike I had tinkered with. What did not go well in dealing w them for four days in a row. -- their systems break under load. Many do, but the bike I reserved with a credit card was not there as promised. The substitute went out with both brake releases open -- something my kid discovered on a 20% downhill. Not cool. -- they sold me two tubes that broke when I snapped the stems off them while pumping. User error? Me? Really? Well, maybe... -- they repeat conventional wisdom that's often wrong. Clipless pedals don't double your power, energy bars aren't better than food, etc. But lots of shops do this. Dumb but hardly criminal. At the end of the day, would I go back. I would and will. On the phone, they were just adequate, but in person, well...I was standing at the front counter in an EMPTY store, staring at the guy behind the counter for about 15 seconds (count it out! it's a long time) while he stared at his computer screen before he even deigns to notice me. Then, his help was glum at best, sullen at worst. Upon returning our bikes, the girl was a little better, but not much. As I was in the shop, a guy comes into the very-nearly empty shop and requests that they change his bike tire. This place is dead. The kid (same glumster) says to him that they're really busy and could he wait a couple of days? To change a tire?! It takes all of 5 minutes! So, customer service: meh. On the other hand, the bikes were in fine shape, and the rates were not bad. read more

I was very pleased with my experience renting a road bike for two days in Healdsburg. The people in the shop were helpful, providing a map marked with favorite rides in the area. They tuned the bike, a Specialized Secteur, for my ride. Everything worked well - which is not always the case with rental bikes. The rides were beautiful, over rolling terrain through the wine country. This place is cycling heaven! When done riding, great food and wine await in town. A final note: This is exactly the kind of shop where you want to purchase your bike from (attentive staff, good service, knowledgeable about the product, etc). read more

This is my go-to bike shop in an area with a ton of options. I moved here on a tight budget with bikes that needed some fixing up and they did a great job, far beyond what I paid them for. And when I've gone in asking for some help with something I wanted to learn to do myself (often not a popular thing in a bike shop....), they were happy to show me what I needed to know. I've rented multiple times from them, never with any problems, and when I'm needing some new route ideas they've always been able to come up with something good. I had an extremely poor experience with Spoke Folk. I visited the shop while on vacation and subsequently purchased a high-end bicycle that was a closeout special. The shop packaged the bike and shipped it to me via UPS. Upon receiving the bike I noticed that it had been packaged inadequately and that the front wheel had made contact with the frame, rubbing the paint down to the carbon fiber. I called the shop and was told by the mechanic that packed the bike to "touch it up using black fingernail polish"! This was a several thousand-dollar bicycle...totally unacceptable answer. I purchased a new bike and expected to receive a new, undamaged bicycle. Luckily I had purchased insurance on the shipment at a cost of $60 additional dollars. I contacted UPS only to be told that they do not offer insurance, and that my payment was only to establish an "appraised value" in the event of a total loss. I escalated my claim but ultimately was informed that it was denied as a result of improper packaging. The shop had apparently chosen to package the bike themselves and use the locally owned UPS Store to ship the package. According to The UPS Store, they will only take responsibility for damage if they are responsible for the packaging. Needless to say I was caught in the middle. The owner of Spoke Folk encouraged me to contact my credit card company about filing a claim (they only cover a max of $1,000) and suggested having the paint repaired. By this point in time I wanted to ship the bike back and be done with this mess. Unfortunately the owner did not want to take the bicycle back citing the fact that he sold it to me below his cost. After contacting American Express indicating that I wanted to dispute the charge, Spoke Folk finally agreed to a return. Unfortunately I had to pay to have it repacked properly and shipped back via FedEx (at my expense) setting me back $200. I can honestly say that it was not a pleasure doing business with Spoke Folk and would highly discourage others from frequenting the business. In the end I feel that this whole situation could have been avoided had the bike been properly packaged...a simple case of negligence. The fact that they did not pick up the return freight shows their total lack of customer service. read more

My husband and I flew our bikes out to Healdsburg to ride the Vineman course. We put our bikes together and decided to stop by Spoke Folk Cyclery on our way out riding to confirm that the bikes were put together properly. Fritz(?), the mechanic looked a bit bothered by my request by he took 5 minutes out of his busy schedule. He only tighten my husbands pedals and then he said "That will be $80". Are you serious? What a rip off!! We paid and left. Then, when I was out riding I found my aero bar was loose, for $80 I would have thought he would catch that! On the way out of town we went to the bike store in Santa Rosa and they happily removed my husbands pedals for free. read more

We were so happy with our visit that we came back to buy my gf a beach cruiser from electra. they have quality products and a helpful staff. i would def suggest going here to rent a bike for the weekend or buy one if you are looking. read more

These people are great! They came to the rescue of my husband and me when I had a broken frame on our 25th wedding anniversary biking trip through Healdsburg. We came in off the street and they took the time to help us come up with a solution to our predicament so we wouldn't have to cancel our vacation. They located the Specialized representative who made a special trip to get us set up with a replacement frame to get us back on the road. They worked tirelessly to put it all together. It was a near disaster, as far as we were concerned, averted by the helpfulness of the SpokeFolk shop staff and by their committment of the quality of their products. Their service is superb! My husband and I rented bikes at Spoke Folk during our recent stay in Healdsburg. Everyone at the shop was terrific, the gear was great, but the best part of all was the outstanding customer service provided by the owner, Rich Peacock, when we realized after we'd returned our bikes that we left our very nice bottle of wine accidentally on the counter. The shop was closed once we realized and since we were leaving town at 7:00 am the next morning, Rich very graciously had one of the staff go to the shop and deliver our bottle of wine to us where we were having dinner around the corner (Barndiva...also amazing!)! This is the kind of service that you can rarely find anymore. It meant the world to us! To sum it up - great bikes and GREAT PEOPLE!!! Highly recommend!!! read more

i started using them for tune ups when i was living in Healdsburg and was very happy with them. when i moved away i tried a few places in Santa Rosa only to be disappointed by incomplete repairs and horrible service. i have been driving the extra miles because they have never disappointed me with repairs and the service is great. Even more satisfying was recently when i brought them a bike i got out of someones garage that looked good except the rust on the gears and chain. I asked for a tune up and replacement for the rusted parts. Jeff called to say that it was so rusted he was not sure if he could remove the part without permanently stripping and damaging the bike. he said it was the worst he had seen. I asked him to do his best and so he tried. It worked!!!! they had the bike for a week while he soaked the rusted parts and worked on removing the pieces and then even longer so he could order the part and replace it. i was very excited and so grateful for his care of the bike although its a cheap brand and would not have been a huge loss in the end. still he did his best and with great results. the total cost in the end was very affordable and much cheaper than i had expected considering the amount of time and care it seemed he put into it. The next day i rode it 12 miles and the day after 28 miles. it rides very nicely and feels great. Thanks again guys for your excellence. read more
