What a gem to find in Ewa Beach! When we arrived, we got there right before the lunch hour rush & were seated right away. When the waiter brought the menu, I felt quite overwhelmed because there was so much to choose from & try. We decided on vegetable pancake, beef bone soup & tteokbokki (spicy rice cake), which we shared. Our waiter brought us all the yummy Korean sides of kim chee, bean sprouts, rice and tofu. When our food came, oh my gosh! It was huge. We were glad that we decided to share our food. The beef soup was flavorful, though I wish there was some heat (spicy) to it, but add some spicy rice cake to it! It was DELICIOUS! The vegetable pancake was also delicious. Next time, maybe we'll try doing hot playe instead. Love that they offer a hot plate to cook your food as well. *On the plus side, the restaurant has a bathroom! read more

Korean food in Ewa!!! Yay!!! I got the dukbokki, kalbi, spicy pork, seaweed soup, and soon tubu jigae. (We got it to go) The meat in the seaweed soup was tender and it was still stove hot when we ate at home! The dukbokki was good and had fish cake, onions, green onions, and carrots in it. It was mostly duk and fish cake as it should be! They also had a good amount of the sauce to dip the duk in. The kalbi was tender and the spicy pork was good. The sides... some of the best in Hawaii! The kimchee is actually good! Not under seasoned, too fresh, or on the sour side! They have a great selection to choose from! You get four choices with your meal. The cucumber kimchee, seasoned dried fish, seaweed kimchee, and the seasoned root vegetable were all delicious! They are up to nine tables to dine in. Service was awesome and they are super nice! Ewa is lucky to have you! UPDATE 7/24/19 Long week at work, didn't get lunch today, had an apple banana and that's it. came in for dol sot bibimbap. It was good and came with 6 sides. If you are looking for authentic family style Korean food in West Oahu, Spoon is your place! Spoon is my favorite Korean restaurant in West Oahu, owned by a warm and welcoming Korean family. There's ample parking and the restaurant is a stand alone building nestled in an Ewa Beach residential neighborhood nearby shopping centers and strip malls. Before the pandemic, I used to love dining at Spoon for Korean BBQ (Kalbi, Beef Bulgolgi,) and KimChi Chigae soup. The servers are generous with their portions and plentiful KimChee side dishes. I'll stick to takeout until it's safe to dine at restaurants for now, but can't wait to dine back at Spoon for Korean BBQ when the pandemic is over! read more

Annyeonghaseyo! So its been raining here in Hawaii, normally I would go and get me some ramen but last night I craved for something else. I wanted some authentic Korean Gamjatang (pork bone soup). I looked in Yelp for best Korean spots near me and I found this hidden gem. Looking on the menu, they dont have what Gamjatang but they offer a wide variety of stew/soup so I went and drove to the spot to give them a try. I ordered beef stew soup and beef bulgogi. I wanted to try their kalbi but sadly as of March 13 they discontinued serving the dish due to ventilation issues. The store reminded me of a mom & pop eatery in Korea. I lived in Korea for 3 years and I enjoyed everyday of it especially the food. So when I got home and started eating, I was taken back to the days I was in Korea. The broth in my stew soup was spot on. The Beef Bulgogi was also on point. Hubby loved it as well. Their food servings is good for 2 people. My stew came with rice and a couple of banchan. As much as I loved my soup, I just wish it had more beef on it than egg. I think I only tasted a couple of pieces of beef. The Beef Bulgogi was also accompanied with the same combo. The beef portions were decent compared to my soup. Oh and did I mention they also have a small dessert shop inside. If you are into some Korean bingsu, Teaspoon is there to serve you. Im giving them a 4-star rating due to the lack of beef in my stew and the unavailability of kalbi which is somehow I think a staple in Korean food. They do serve very good food, I can only imagine how the kalbi tastes. I hope this will change in the future. Purely take out review. Called in or order and were told it would take 40 minutes. Seems a bit long but we were fine with it. Lady on the phone was very nice. We ordered the spicy tofu stew with seafood, spicy beef stew, and squid stew. All delicious! Spicy and full of flavor. Very definitive flavors too. Unlike some other restaurants that have a main soup base and just add the "toppings," each soup has a distinctive different flavor. At first sight, the foam containers that the soup comes in are not appealing, but what other options are there really? We poured our soups into large bowls to you know avoid any melting styrofoam. My dad immediately thought the portions were small. He was so wrong. Four adults shared three soup dishes and did not finish. We would take out again. Sister and I were craving spicy food so we came here because I wanted kimchi fried rice and she wanted to try out tteokbokki. It's indeed spicy and very delicious. Though the egg wasn't all too good, the yolk was hard in the center. When you order take out, it does take a long time for them to give your food but worth the wait. read more

This is my new GO-TO for Tteokbokki! I've only gotten tteokbokki from Myungrang Hot Dog and (pre packaged) H-Mart. This Tteokbokki with Ramen and cheese make both of the ones I've tried before seem so plain! This meal was so flavorful and delicious. I loved the ratio of rice cake to fish cake and the small addition of veggies was a nice touch. Will have to come back whenever I'm craving Tteokbokki. They have a lot more dishes to choose from, definitely will be back to try more! read more

Pretty bland food and overpriced for what you get. $11 for a vegetable pancake was a bit much especially since it was pretty slight on the veggies (few onions, corn, and little zucchini(?). This place is a hidden gem in Ewa....I guess you really have to live deep in Ewa to know this place because there is no way I would have found it if I wasn't just driving around. I've never heard of it and just happened to drive by and try it. The reason I gave 4 stars because the place was smoky from all the cooking. My eyes were burning a bit and hope that they had some kind of ventilation in there. I managed to deal with it because I wanted to try the place. My bf and I decided to share a Korean Combo (you get to pick 2 choices) which was Meat Jun and Kalbi. The amount was for two people and there was no way I would have finished it on my own. It was different because it came on those sizzling plates plated with onions, it was good! They gave generous size sides and they were tasty. We liked the crab salad =). I finally got a chance to try this place! I would read the reviews and ask around and I would hear about how good the food was, but how busy it was all the time. Well, I must have had a little luck on my side because the Sunday night that we went, we were seated immediately and there was only 2 other parties there (one of the parties was an older group who were obviously Korean). We ordered fried mandoo, which was more like gyoza to me then mandoo. I know people are going to argue that they're the same, but it's not. I'm actually really judgmental toward mandoo. I always compare mandoo flavor and how it's wrapped to how our family makes it. For dinner we both ordered kalbi and meat jun combos. I like to use kalbi and meat jun to compare Korean restaurants. They're common, popular dishes. The kalbi had good flavor. The only downside is that the only choice you have is short rib kalbi. The meat jun was good too. The egg wasn't thick and the meat had a good flavor. The sides (banchan) were good also. There was potato salad, broccoli with thousand island dressing, bean sprouts, soy-braised potato, cucumber kimchi and regular kimchi (that was not sour). We didn't try the BBQ (I was not in the mood to cook my own food) or any of the soups or stews, so we'll be back to try that. Overall, everything was really good. read more

We've only ever gotten take out due to COVID and can't speak on what the restaurant is like for a sit down meal, but take out is always easy and convenient, and the service is great. Good food, little bit on the pricey side from my previous visit. Dropped by for take out but was told wait would be more than 40 minutes. Just went to the Thai restaurant nearby and ordered there and it took only 15 minutes. I compared the price and servings between those two restaurants and the Thai restaurant was cheaper and double the size of portions. Spoon Restaurant does not let you use their bathroom even though you are the only customer at that time. Other restaurants nearby the areas let their customers use their bathrooms. This place is one of my faves! And it's on my side of the island! The heavens were listening! The food is delicious. Banchans are always on point. Quality is seen in the freshness of ingredients. My mom loves their taegu and saba/mackerel. I just love their food...haven't had something bad yet! Great food and service is a given for five stars. But you know what really makes this place my favorite? It's the family! The mom and her daughter are the sweetest. I remember first visiting last year when they just opened and it was a pleasure to get to know them. They let me practice my Korean and always remembered me when I would stop by. Came here around 12 on Saturday for lunch. Small lot, but we were able to get a stall right in front of the restaurant. Small place. Maybe nine tables or so. When we got there there was one table filled. The banchan was super good. Potato salad, kim chee, broccoli, cucumber, bean sprouts, and some kind of pancakes. I ordered the kalbi and chicken combo. Large portions. It came on a sizzling platter wirh onions. Sadly, few of the onions could be spared from their fate of being stuck, burned on the platter. The price was very high at $26.95, especially considering it was lunch. While the taste of my food was fine, I don't feel that the taste or the portion justified the price. Once our order was taken and our food was brought, we were completely neglected until we had finished our food. No checking up on us, no refilling our water. It even took awhile for our check to be picked up. Will probably not be back. read more

It was only us 2 and I guess they were so busy and crowded that it would take over 45 minutes to wait. I guess it was our fault for coming at 7:15 pm on a friday. They also said they are so backed up on orders, they wont even take takeout orders. Never in my life did I hear a restaurant not take takeout orders. I understand being busy but they just denied my business. I really hope to come back and change this review since I only heard good things about this place. Just dont catch them on a busy night/day. The most amazing kimchi fried rice I have had!!! This was a real gem when I was seriously wanting some Korean bbq. The short ribs were good so we had to order a second round. Kimchi soup was also off the charts. I think their kimchi was a home run today. Served boiling hot I had to sit there and drool. When I finally got some it was well worth the wait. One interesting this is they don't sell jap Che. They offer it as a small side that is included. I offered to pay for some because it is Delicious. I suggest they put it on the menu!!! Even the side of cucumbers was amazing. The bulgogi was ok, the portion was good but it was kind of average. Service was mixed as well one server was super quiet and the other was super nice. We got here at about 5pm on a Thursday. The restaurant was empty and so obviously there was parking but I IF you come on a weekend you might have trouble because there isn't that muchh stalls. This place is a little hard to find because it's all the way in the back of like a little shopping center and can't be seen from the main road FOOD Kimchi pancake-nice texture. Crispy outside sliightly chewy and "cakey" in the center. Not spicy at all. I wish it was at least a little spicy and had more of a Kim chee flavor. Soft tofu soup-we chose pork as our meat. when you eat everything together is was okay but the base of the soup was missing a depth of flavor. I think they use water and not broth as the base. I like the amount of tofu in it and I really loved the texture of the tofu it was soft but you were still able to spoon it on your rice and it wasnt mush. Spicy level I would say was 5/10 Kim Chee fried rice- . It was rice Kim chee and sesame seeds. Decent amount of flavor.I think they put ketchup in it or something the rice was a little mushy and it had a slightly sweet flavor to it. Spicy level 3/10 Kalbi- really good flavor and soft. They serve it on sizzling platter so it's supper hot and it has a kind of crispy char to it that I really liked. Spicy pork- really good flavor and super soft. This was one of my favorite items. It also came on a sizzling platter and got that same crispy-ness on some of the piece. Spice level was 5/10 Gyoza- super good. Crispy outside and the inside was pork and some veggies. Lots of flavor. The dipping sauce they serve with it is just a regular sweet soy based dipping sauce Banchan- my favorite was the cucumbers, super good and flavorful. The other dishes were really good too. Even the broccoli with thousand island was good, so simple but tasty SERVICE: literally the bare minimum service. They never refilled our waters and other than taking our order and dropping our food and the check no one ever came to check on us. OVERALL: It isn't the best Korean food I've ever had but it's pretty good. I think just a tad bit more salt in most of the dishes would have made it a lot better I want to come back and try the Kim chi jigae. read more

Spoon Korean Kitchen is located deep in Ewa Beach, which is good for residents who live in the area because there aren't any other Korean barbecue places nearby. They serve a variety of dishes already cooked but you can also choose to partake in cooking your own food. I came here on a Friday during Lent (so no meat for me) so I ordered a bunch of other dishes - the udon, garlic shrimp, and kimchee pancake. The udon was typical and garlic shrimp was alright. But I did enjoy the kimchee pancake - it was a good size with great flavor and it was cooked very well! The pancake wasn't too spicy and it was soft and fluffy with a nice crunch. Although I was not able to enjoy the meat being cooked, my two friends were able to. They received a good amount of food for the price and they said it was pretty good. I would like to come back here to try it myself and of course to indulge in more kimchee pancake! read more
