Downtown McKinney is the cutest! And this little cafe fits right in. The only problem is how crowded it gets and the seating sitch isn't very comfortable. The tables are haphazardly placed with minimal space between. I've been here about 3 times and ordered something completely different each time. The menu is EXTENSIVE- all American breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also serve up cocktails and beer. My nieces (ages 2 and 5) absolutely love their hotdogs, fries, mac n cheese, and pancakes. Cute little cafe downtown McKinney Tx. We stopped here for breakfast and I'd have to say the options were kinda slim. I had the waffle with banana slices and pecans. The waffle was delicious however the bananas were a little over ripe for me. The sausage is equivalent to hotel breakfast sausage (we didn't eat it) the bacon was ok but kinda think and cold. Husband got the breakfast sandwich and he said it was ok. Overall we give this place a 2 1/2 -3 star. read more

I came in ragged after a four hour drive and they interpreted my incoherency, got me my coffee and wonderful meal, and got me back on the road in a timely fashion. And that remembered utensils! I have to be honest I didn't think I would like this place but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good ,and the service was outstanding! I had the club sandwich with fries, my wife had a BLT and a bowl of tomato bisque. I'm a club sandwich freak, and this one was very good , it had fresh toasted sourdough bread with lots of bacon, ham, turkey, cheese, and a dash of mayo. The fries set it off, they were thin sliced steak fries with just the right amount of crispness. (is that a word) :) This restaurant is located in old downtown Mckinney so after eating you can stroll the quaint shops and support the local businesses. read more

We ate there yesterday. They told us there would be a 25 minute wait, and they suggested we eat at a sister restaurant, through the back door. That restaurant was nothing but a little bar. When we came back, they seated a couple right away??? We still had to wait about 20 minutes We ordered Rueben sandwiches. They were almost inedible! The meat was dry and shriveled up. Someone needs to train the employees who cook the meat. The cheese was even melted. The cinnamon apples I ordered Cinnamon apples, but they were nothing but apples cooked in their own juice.....no cinnamon flavor at all. SHOPPERS BEWARE!!!! The food and prices there SUCK! We ended up coming here for Mother's Day! Luckily bc it was early we were able to get a table. Obviously bc it was Mother's Day service was a tad slow getting to us initially, but after getting our order it was great! They only had 4 waitresses that I saw! Our waitress brought out a biscuit for our girls to munch on while waiting for our food; very nice. The menu is rather large, but the breakfast options are small. My husband complained of that only because he's a breakfast guy, me I didn't mind that. Portions are great, taste is very good and the staff is very nice! We lucked out and came here during a not so busy time. So I gotta say, if you want to win my heart, treat me well and be nice to my kids. This place gets it. I don't mind waiting, I don't mind when it's busy and service is a little slow; just make me feel like you want me there. My kids and I were seated in about 15 minutes, prior to, the girl at the front desk kept reassuring we'd be seated soon. Grade = A We are seated right by where they keep the cupcakes, this means my kids immediately want to finish breakfast and get their cupcake on... this isn't a flaw, just a challenge since my kids love sweets. The seats were comfy and my waitress greeted me with water and a great attitude fast. Grade = A I ordered a breakfast taco, the kids ordered pancakes and sausage. The food came and wow!! That was a BIG TACO. I mean like dude... I couldn't finish the taco... I eat a lot... Grade = A My kids ate just enough food to convince me they were done, what they really wanted was a cupcake. This bothers me because I know they will be hungry later... that's how they roll. This is not the fault of Spoons, just sharing my life... LOL They loved their food. The waitress kept checking back, filling the coffee and making cute comments to the kids; Winning. Grade = A+ I ordered one cupcake to split between all of us, the cupcake was rich and delicious. Loved it. I'll say again, when a place gets it right, it's a pleasure writing the reiview and I can't wait to go back to Spoons and have some more breakfast. When you walk to the Mckinney Square, it is like taking a trip through time. Back to a time when towns had a city center and the square was the heart of the city. I love the Mckinney Square, it takes you back to when there was a slower pace of life and reminds you to enjoy every moment. So, of course Spoons is a part of this pace. I saw some complaints about slow ticket times. This is not fast food it is a home cooking establishment. It's a good thing your food is made with care and quality. This should also give you time to unplug from your phone and converse with your friends and loved ones. When you walk in it has a very rustic feel. it has has wood floors and it decorated with many antique items. It has an open concept, so you can see you food being prepared in the extremely clean kitchen. Now, it should be noted that Spoons has two sections the main restaurant and the Garage. The Garage is sometimes where they put the overflow from Spoons or its where people go just for coffee, dessert, and ice cream. You can also watch them making their amazing desserts if you sit in the Garage. If you get a chance to sit in Marshall's section you will treated to top notch service. He is a very attentive server and knows the menu very well. Now, down to the food. My favorite item on the menu is the King Ranch Chicken Casserole. It comes with shredded chicken breast, tortilla chips, diced tomatoes, red and green peppers, onions, and Cheddar cheese served with Caesar salad, tortilla chips and salsa. It is made just like my momma made it and I promise you I always leave my plate sparkly clean. My hubby likes the Chicken and Waffles. It is hand battered chicken breast served with fluffy waffles. The hubby doesn't put syrup on top he smothers it with their homemade chili. The desserts are why most flock to this place. The Chocolate cream pie is to die for! There is nothing inherently wrong with Spoons. The food is fine, the atmosphere is very diner-like and casual, all fine, but my experiences have not been the most kid friendly. On my most recent trip a mom's group I attend had planned to meet here, kids in tow, to have lunch. A couple of us arrived on time and were informed they would not seat us until all six of us had arrived. Fine, but with empty tables all around and babies crying, toddlers needing to be fed, and mom's with new little ones not always running on time, it was torture. After about 15min of strollers blocking the entry while we waited and my little guy freaking out due to hunger, they told us they would seat us in the "garage". We exited the main restaurant and went around the corner to a separate entrance. We were seated at a large table with plenty of space. Great, right? Wrong. The "garage" was technically closed, so some poor waitress had to cover her tables in the main portion and then us in the back. I was ready to order for my son the minute we sat down, but our waitress didn't seat us. I finally flagged her down and ordered for him. It was several minutes later before she returned with our drinks and we could order again. The food was fine and portions good, but the fact that our poor waitress had to keep making trips back to see us definitely made things take longer than normal. She was incredibly kind to split our check for us and I don't believe any of this is technically her fault. I just wouldn't choose to come back to Spoons any time soon. There are a handful of other restaurants that do a great job catering to parents with kids, have a different environment, the food is good and doesn't cost as much either. read more

I've always loved Spoons. However, I walked in at 7:25 on a Friday night - mind you - their closing time says 8:00PM. When I walked in, 3 waitresses were laughing (it seemed to be at us, but call me crazy). I asked when they closed, and one girl said "we close at 7:45, but you two can order to-go". I said no thanks, we wanted to dine in, sorry for coming in so late. Long story short, we ended up eating at Foxies. I would never have had an option about this encounter if I hadn't had previously been a Waitress. When I waitressed, our closing time would be 9PM, and we were required to take people until one minute to closing - and STAY however long the last customer stayed. Honestly, I have no sympathy for 7:25 on a Friday. This was unacceptable. read more

Weren't given a reason why we weren't seated though. Went to the Garage, sat down and watched two other parties of two who walked in behind us order their food and start eating before anyone ever said anything to us. Another diner felt so bad he said something to the servers who were ignoring us. My wife had already left by that point. I went back to Spoons and saw the manager who was more than happy to seat us. Would not recommend and here is why... Upon getting to the restaurant all the tables were dirty or occupied. We didn't wait to be seated which was nice. The server came over and brought some water and asked what we would like to drink. We ordered a Diet Coke and coffee. It took 16min (yep, I timed it) to get our drinks. Once she arrived we placed our order, I got the eggs Benedict and he got the not so simple breakfast. Food did arrive fast but the plating of the food was awful, (I forgot to take pictures) and the look of the food really wasn't appealing. But we were hungry and powered through. Spoons has always been a favorite brunch spot of mine on the square. They make great lattes with good flavor options such as blueberry, raspberry, and cherry. This past time I tried their breakfast taco. I was thinking oh they meant breakfast burrito right? Nope! This is literally a big ass breakfast taco. I could barely finish it. My boyfriend got the chicken tenders and enjoyed his food as well. Getting a table was a little rocky in the beginning because it was so crowded and you had family after family trying to get a table too. We went around the corner to The Garage and believe we were helped by the owner who had just arrived - thank you! This is such a great spot! I ordered Karen's special which was an omelet with baby bell, spinach and mushroom and some bomb breakfast potatoes! It was really good. Not only did I not feel like I was 19282813 lbs when I was done eating because of how it wasn't oily but it was served beautifully and hot! My son had pancakes and my husband ordered bacon and eggs. We all really enjoyed our food and the potatoes. We came on Labor Day when it was pretty busy and were seated quickly and fed within a reasonable amount of time. We thought because of its location and allowance of dogs on the patio, it would be a good choice; we were quickly learning why we should've gone elsewhere. Have come in two times and both times good service from our wait staff. Unfortunately everything else falls way short. The first time I ordered the King Ranch casserole. It looked ok and the outsides with nice and warm but the inside of the serving was cold. It was obviously reheated. I ate a bit but left most of it. Husband really enjoyed the atmosphere so I gave it a second chance. Mistake! It was a 3 pm lunch on a Saturday so it was pretty dead and we got seated quick (in the garage). There was only one other table seated in there. Well we get our food and it's obviously reheated again!! The Mac and cheese was hard and had a film on it. Just not appetizing at all. The worst part was when a lady who works here yells In Spanish to man in the kitchen (about 20 feet away) to hurry up and get to cleaning the restroom because it's clogged. Then she says it a few other times to other coworkers laughing. I get things happen and maybe she was just joking with the guys but I don't want to hear about your toilets being clogged with poop while eating nasty food. So long story short...talk to your staff about people understanding other languages plus reheated food for $40 is not cool. read more

We came here because we were looking for a new brunch spot that was close to us. I had only been here one time a long long time ago, and I didn't come during brunch. We decided to check it out. We came in through the back where the "Spoons Garage" is. I guess that's a no no. It looks like it's separate from the main Spoons restaurant, including hours on the door and an area that says to wait there to be seated. When we entered, an employee told us we had to go up to the front. That's cool, no big deal. Just a little confusing to someone who hasn't really ever been there. We were seated pretty quickly. Two of us in our party, but we were seated at a large table. We were going to order drinks, but there is no way I could fathom paying $30 for a pitcher of mimosas when so many places have drink specials for brunch. They have $5.95 wells, which doesn't seem too bad until you notice the only well they have listed on their menu is Amaretto. Not even a well vodka. Everything else is premium (at $6.95) and top shelf (at $7.95). That's alright... I guess not a spot to check out if drinking (unless you come during Happy Hour... I think they have a decent one of those). It's more of a family friendly environment anyway, but they have a bar area... So there's that. Anyway, as for food, I got the Frito chili pie. It was a huge helping of food. I was wondering what the size would be like for the price... And it made sense. They do call it Texas sized. The Frito chili pie was good... Your normal Frito chili pie. Nothing amazing. For the price, I guess I was expecting to be wowed, but it was still good. When we were done, I could see a hostess hovering close to our table, waiting for us to get up so she could get it cleaned. I get that it was busy because it was lunch time. I still had to pay though. Overall though, I'd probably come back to try a different dish. Maybe I could check out the Happy Hour to see if it is good. read more
