I went into this restaurant prepared for the worst but was pleasantly surprised. Located in the former spot for Nori Nori, this is now a buffet for shabu shabu. Buffet shabu shabu? I never thought it would be worth it. First off, there is a huge selection of fresh veggies which was nice and they have a large assortment of fishballs to choose from (which were pretty good). Dinner starts at about 16 bucks which lets you have all the veggies and fishballs you want. You can add beef, chicken, seafood etc. for anywhere between 5 and 10 bucks a place. Meat and seafood was surprisingly fresh and it tasted pretty good. Sauce bar was extensive. The price is pretty good and I usually spend the same amount at a la carte in other places. The $16.95 base price gets you a choice of soup (vegetarian, spicy veg, pork, and spicy pork) and unfettered access to the buffet of vegetables, meat balls, fish balls, fish cakes, various types of noodles and ramen, mini sausages, dumplings, and the sauce bar. That by itself can fill you up. If you must have a protein, it's priced by portion, ranging from $5-$7 for meat or seafood. It's always pretty clean, and, depending on your party size, there may be a wait but it's not that bad unless you're over a party of 6. This place should be called a semi-buffet. It is not your typical AYCE like Shanghai Tides or Baidu. It is all you can eat vegetables and you incur additional cost for meat or seafood. But for the price it is a hit or miss for me. They don't charge the AYCE prices so I can't complain there. They are serving a different market of hot pot enthusiasts and is trying to compete against al carte hotpot restaurants but with a slight twist. Al Carte hot pot restaurant depending which one you go too can come in a set menu or charge you for the soup base and everything else you get ( I avoid those places). I think coming here for lunch is a bargain but for dinner their price is edging close to AYCE places. I like the idea you can grab what you like to eat versus other AYCE where they load up on the vegetables and bring out small portions of food you really like or not bring it at all. The only thing that turned me off was the 1.5 hour time limit. I felt like I needed to watch the clock or be charge for additional time. We are not at a parking lot and should not be treated as such. The wait staff was slow due to a number of tables they were serving or not serving. My vote is out on this one. When Spring first opened, admittedly I wasn't very impressed. I was used to going to hot pot restaurants that have more than 3 different kinds of soup bases, and Spring only had two (pork or fish), each with a spicy version. There was no vegetarian broth. The base fee for the vegetable buffet admittedly was cheap ($14.95), but we had to pay extra for meat, which added up to about the same as other hot pot places. Despite those, I continued to go with friends, and slowly Spring grew on me. The broths, although very simple, were tasty enough that I would drink them at the end of my meal. They finally added a vegetarian mushroom broth, which is also simple but just as tasty at the end of the meal. The vegetable buffet is the best part: it's not everywhere you can get kale and Swiss chard, and even if they didn't have those, the unlimited napa, watercress, tong hao, and spinach (the hot pot staples), among others, is already heavenly. Included among the buffet is a wide assortment of fish balls, tempura, tofu, and noodles...about 10 different types of noodles! I'm usually not a noodle eater at hot pots because they fill you up, but I made it a point to try all of them during my last visit, and I was stuffed (as expected) but happy that I did try. Probably won't do that again though! Also, because of the vegetable buffet, I've realized that I have no need to order any meat and I'll still be full. This is great news for when I go on my vegetarian streaks, not to mention it keeps my meal pretty darn cheap. Carnivores, you won't even miss the meat! That's from observing the various meat-eating friends that have come here with me. I didn't even get to the sauces yet! There are 20 different sauces from which you can make your concoction. Thanks to their selections, I have actually branched out from my usual dips and experimented with the likes of pineapple and blueberry (that's right...blueberry!). I WOULD NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR HOT POT AFTER DISCOVERING SPRING!! I used to pay so so so much money just for hot pot, but this place is not only affordable but delicious. I have never left this place feeling hungry or unsatisfied. The only thing that I don't like so much about this place is the broth, which is pretty lackluster, but even then I usually just put some sauces in there to flavor it and I'm good to go, anyways, lets get into the good part! So first of all, you only have 2 hours to eat! So you have to make your time worth it. Also the pricing is different for lunch and dinner, I do not remember the exact price but when I came here for dinner, it was around $17 per person not including tax and tips (and I also didn't order meat). They will ask what kind of broth you want, I believe there are 4 different ones: the spicy pork bone, the regular non-spicy pork bone, the dashi, and the spicy dashi? Correct me if I'm wrong but it's along those lines. You can also choose a variety of meats or seafood, the average price for a plate of meat is around $5-6 depending on what meat (I believe the seafood one is a little more expensive). Honestly, I think you can do just fine without order the meat, just save yourself 5 bucks and take advantage of all the fish balls that they have to offer. After that you are free to roam the aisle of toppings that they have to offer. I am a big veggie fan, so I got very excited when I saw the wide variety of vegetables that they have to offer. I cannot name all but here are a few: cabbage, spinach, kale, chrysanthemum, bok choy, almost like 6 different types of mushrooms such as golden (stringy) mushrooms, wood-ear mushrooms, pumpkin and squash etc. there are just too many to name and the best part is that they are all fresh vegetables! Nothing bothers me more than paying for hot pot toppings and seeing the leaves wilting right in front of me. At spring, they have the highest quality vegetables, I haven't seen one yellow leaf yet. Let's move on to their fish balls and fish tofu...they have such a wide variety of these. They range from beef balls, to fish balls with cheese, to fish tofu, to regular tofu, you name it, they have it!! So that's my reasoning for not ordering the meat, because I can just get full off of all these fish tofu. I also can't forgot about the noodles that they have! There are about 5 different types of noodles that you can drop into that delicious broth of yours. After you are full and cannot take on any more food, there's a fro-yo machine at your service. Of course it will only come in vanilla and chocolate but it's better than nothing. Plus the fro-yo is not as watered down as some other places'. The staff here is also exception. They will cater to your every need and refill your drinks and broth as needed. The produce is fresh and top notch here. Plus they have a sauce bar you can make your favorite concoction. No real complaints but this place is BUSY and they will ask you to give up your seat pretty quickly after you pay. The waitresses/waitress offer better than average service by always cleaning the empty plates before they stack up on your table, coming around to fill up your soup pot, and always refilling your cup with hot tea/water. There's always a large variety of choices for sides, and best part is it's UNLIMITED! Main course protein choices are ordered on the side at an addition cost, but the cost of everything averaging to about $11-17 per person is definitely worth it. NEGATIVES- I have experienced picking some vegetables that weren't rinsed throughly, and have found bugs inside the broth as the result. Fast service also comes with a sacrifice of cleanliness, and I have found lipstick residue on a glass cup that wasn't cleaned throughly. Went here with my sister, last weekend for an early dinner. The receptionist seated us at this table, it was ok, but not cleaned thoroughly. There was a puddle of water on the floor. But since it was just us and we won't be sitting on that chair/side, t'was ok. You can choose the soup/broth you want-fish based, pork based or veggie based. They have a buffet style selection of veggies, fishcakes, mushrooms and noodles. They have eggs and tofu, included in the buffet table. Meat and seafoods are of course ordered through the servers and are priced differently(for lunch and dinner, kind of beef, etc.) They have ice cream for dessert. Chocolate and vanilla were the flavors that time. We were too hungry and our brains were not functioning well, so we got the pork broth, ordered 2 seafood tray, 1 shrimp tray(dinner size) and 1 prime rib tray(dinner). We tried our very best to finish everything we ordered, but failed to do so. Hahaha! Our server was nice. Took care of us and always making sure that we can eat peacefully, taking away the dirty plates and bowls. All in all, food is good and reasonably priced. Service is good. Ideal for vegetarian eaters. Every table is equipped with burners for the pots to sit in. If you are not Asian like us, you can ask and they will guide you. The main idea is to prepare your own soup with vegetables and noodle in three different pots to chose. They call it pork soup, spicy or not. Fish soup spicy or not and vegetable soup. Soup means only the broth. You can select also the deep which is large selection too. We asked for shrimp and we cooked them into the fish broth. Ice cream very good too. I LOVE this place. I think I go to this place 1 a week in the non-hot months. It has all you can eat veggies, noodles, sauces, and fish cakes. It's a great deal if you love shabu shabu and never get enough veggies with your order. The meat is extra, but I usually only have the veggies and fish cake and share a plate with someone else. Their sauces are great and the veggies and other ingredients are fresh. They keep the place pretty clean and there is unlimited refills on soda. I love the Dashi soup. The Pork (spicy and non spicy) I found to be very oily, but a lot of people like that. Their spicy soups are not that spicy, but if you don't like it, they will switch it out for you. Service is pretty good. If you get seated in the little section by the sauces, it's very hard to get someone's attention. The main dining hall is much better and lit better. When you sit in that small section there are about 5-7 people standing there just chillin' and talking to each other. It's like the hangout point. I usually get the spicy dashi broth or the spicy pork bone depending on my mood. The spicy dashi is very light and the spicy pork bone has a lot of flavor. I love how this place has a lot more condiments to add to your sauce compared to other hot pot places with just soy sauce and chili oil. I don't usually order meat because there is just so much to get in the buffet: the vegetables, fish cake, rice cake, and noodles. Also you can't beat the price. The hot pot here was great! We went during lunch hour and it was very cheap (just $11.95)! The waiter was very friendly and the restaurant was very spacious but it did start to get a little packed during late evening. Meat is not included in the hot pot buffet and it cost extra. There were so many vegetables to choose from and it included meat dumplings, fish cakes, fish balls etc....So even though meat is not included this hot pot is totally worth it! Plus they offer free ice cream. We however did not like the chicken because it was not thinly sliced and was just small chunks of chicken thighs. The lamb was great!
