Solid lunch spot now offering brunch on weekends, without the lines of nearby competitors. The full salads are a generous size, with a wide array of bases, toppings, proteins, and dressings to optimize from, although some toppings were applied a lot more generously than others (and are mostly completely unseasoned, which makes them taste very healthy but somewhat bland, especially the tofu). The eggs Benedict and side of potatoes were well cooked, and prices are reasonable for the area. Would come back to try the soups! read more

I never leave reviews, but I'll make an exception for Sprouts cafe. I went for brunch with my kids on Mother's day and we ordered the k bomb chicken waffle, along with huevos rancheros, as well as french toast and pancakes. I don't know where to start. I had a wonderful experience here after an afternoon walk with friends. The atmosphere is cozy, and I absolutely love the moss walls and decorative shelving. This place used to be great. Last experience: stood in line to order at the register only to be told I had to go to a table for waiter service. OK. Waitress takes forever to take our order. My three year-old is getting close to nap time and ends up peeing her pants because the waitress couldn't understand what we were ordering. Not fun. Then we go to the bathroom, which has a code required, which the waitress did not give to us. Then we get back and ask if they have a booster for my three year-old. They say no. Then she asked for a highchair so I walk over grab the highchair and there are boosters sitting right next to it. Our food arrives, waiter asked if we need anything else. I asked for silverware, but he does not speak enough English to understand the word silverware. So I have to mime a fork for him to get it for us. Menu changed from many healthy salad options to waffles and different fried potatoes. Not worth $45 for a salad and kids meal. read more

Great atmosphere, and our server Roberto was extremely attentive and kind. It was a pleasure having him take care of us. He recommended an excellent Benedict for my girlfriend and was genuinely so nice. The food was outstanding. I had the tuna Niçoise, which was fantastic and very filling. Since I've last visited, Sprout has a revamped menu and ordering system. If I recall correctly, you used to order at the counter and pick up your food there, and now they drop it off. They have also added brunch items on the weekends like waffles and french toast. The clipboards for custom salads are still utilized. The nice thing is that the menu tells you which salad dressings fit diet restrictions, like vegan and gluten-free. Some of the dressings seem to miss a few denotations, but at least I had an idea of which ones didn't have any sneaky fish sauce. The number of toppings for custom salads is actually massive - nearly overwhelming! Which is nice after Sweetgreen always claims they have a "new" salad and then swaps out only one ingredient. The pricing of toppings, and especially premium toppings, is a little strange. Here's an example. Fried onion vs. crispy shallots have an 80 cent difference and are not in the same category. The foccacia that comes with the salad is really yummy. It's much better than the included bread that Sweetgreen offers. My tofu salad was very good, and they honored the swaps that I mentioned. My friend liked her custom salad but wanted a little more of each topping. The fries remind me of how In n Out cooks them. Pretty crispy. They also come with an interesting curry ketchup. There are a few tables outdoors with plenty indoors. The restaurant felt pretty quiet on a Sunday around 1:30 PM, respective to the number of people downtown PA. Overall, there are lots of topping options here, and some new brunch options are always with solid food! read more

I had the Asian chicken soup and the steak. I've had the soup before, and I like the flavor. However, the spinach was not cooked, just arranged around the edge of the bowl. If the soup had been hot enough, it would have wilted/cooked the spinach. But the bowl was a heavy ceramic dish, so it sapped much of the soup's heat, preventing it from wilting the spinach. It also made the soup cold before I could finish eating it. I would highly suggest that the spinach be added to the soup before it's plated, so this doesn't happen. And if they don't want to pre-warm the bowl (a reasonable thing not to do), the soup should be hotter when it goes in. The hanger steak was both tiny and overcooked. The menu says it is cooked sous vide to medium-rare, but the piece I was given was between medium-well and well-done. They cooked a new one, and that one was medium-rare to medium, which is good for me. But it's honestly the tiniest steak I've ever had. It would be understandable if it came out with generously-portioned sides (I had mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts), but the whole thing was just quite small. I've come here many times over the years, and I'll probably be back sometime. But I'll skip the steak, and probably the soup too. read more

So I have started to frequent this place somewhat regularly... I really wanted to give it five stars but here is the skinny: 1. The quality and taste of the salads are great. Fresh ingredients, awesome variety, and a step-up from Plutos in the food, presentation, and atmosphere. Definitely a bit pricey as you start to add on ingredients but that comes with the territory. Five stars for that. 2. A great place to come eat onsite. Staff is nice, salads are prepared relatively quickly and take just long enough to have some nice lunch or dinner conversation (see below.) 3. If you are in a rush and ordering something to-go, this place is a DISASTER. You will wait forever. Literally, two salads have taken half an hour to make. Not acceptable for a to-go order. Unless they make their manual menu available on the web... what a great idea. If you could fill it out online and then it would be ready for pickup, I would give this place five stars, no question. read more

I can't tell you how I like the food in this heaven place. To say the least it is my favorite cafe on the University Avenue. What I would recommend is do not go in a rush hours. The line of people will be unbelievable, but it only proves that the place is really great. My favorite is my own custom salad, which I found ideal and I do not change the combination for the last year, and I also LOVE Greek Chicken sandwich. The green souse is divine, although I think there is mayo as one of the ingredients. Overall whenever I have a chose where to go for lunch in Palo Alto - I have no other choice to recommend to myself. I remember how I was disappointed when they were closed on Sunday. Sprout Cafe is AWESOME. If you're health conscious or just don't want to feel disgusting after having a "fast" meal, this is the place to go. I always create my own salad, but they have a lot of a la carte options as well. There are a ton of choices, and the head chef (I think he's the owner as well) stands and watches the other cooks prepare the meals to ensure quality. I've never been here for dinner but during lunch it can get very very crowded and loud. But you can order takeout using the OrderAhead app and you don't have to deal with the lunch rush at all. All in all, this is a great place to go if you dont know exactly what you want but you know you want to have something fresh and healthy! read more

It's a little on the pricy side, which is why I didn't splurge for the full five stars, but the food is really great and refacing,and you can tell the ingredients are of a higher quality. I love the Davy salad! Poached salmon, baby corn, fresh avocado! It all comes together to melt in your mouth! I had such a great experience at Sprout Café! I'm lactose intolerant, and when I ordered the omelet, I didn't realize it was made with butter. After it was served, I mentioned it to my server, and without hesitation he took it back and had a new one made for me. On top of that, they noticed the potatoes were also cooked with butter, so they swapped them out for fresh fruit without me even asking. Lots of great topping and dressing options here. I've tried a lot of different combinations but almost always get something with the ahi tuna and miso dressing. I just came back from my vacation in Spain, and I was eager to try some fresh produce from California. However, I should have gone elsewhere because Sprout provided me with lackluster salad. There were onions in my salad when I didn't ask for onions (so it's clear they just build a salad to their own specs). Furthermore, the appetizer came out well after me and my date were finished eating out salads. Great work on that one!! I think the addons are a little bit expensive but thats to be expensive in one of the most expensive areas in the United States. I could the half salad usually with a bunch of extra toppings and it rounded out around $10. My husband usually got the full salad and that was more like $12-14 - something like that. On that note, what drew me to check out this spot for the first time was the restaurant's own description of themselves, one that stood out from pretty much any I've heard before: "Counter Point Café is a modern eatery that cultivates reflective and restorative moments for the solo visitor and large party alike." Those two words to describe the cafe's intention for its ambiance -- reflective and restorative -- drew me to check it out for a first-time lunch with a friend. A couple weeks later, I can say the environment delivered! It was really clean, open, and serene. We ate inside the cafe, but the outside area was super nice too. This isn't a place to go out of your way to have a dinner date, but for lunch or brunch with a date, a friend, or a group of friends, it's perfect. Especially if you want the opportunity to have a deeper conversation. As far as the food, it was good for the price! My buddy got the chicken sandwich, which I've gotta try next time - it looked incredible (pictured below). My Philly cheesesteak was also good. Lastly, the service from the staff was A+! Very friendly and personable. I would shout out the guy who helped us but his name is escaping me at the moment. Only possible complaint I have is the music was a tad loud for a place aiming to cultivate reflective moments for conversations, reading, journaling, etc. If they are willing to turn the music a bit down or play instrumental music instead, I would totally come here again for some solo time to read or write! It's a small place with fresh, tasty food. We tried the Mando, pockets, Nutella bun, and a side of Brussels sprouts. Everything was really good. The Brussels sprouts especially stood out. Ordering was quick and easy, and it's a nice spot to sit and have a relaxed chat.
