I enjoyed Squid Lips while I was in Melbourne and actually went there a couple of times. It is on the water near the Indian River and they have a nice patio and outdoor area. Came at 12 noon on Sunday. They didn't have enough staff to open up all the beach area for lunch. I'm now sitting in the covered bar area and it's packed out. Not my experience to go out to the beach and have a chill, laid-back Sunday afternoon I asked when they were going to open up the rest of the beach area and they said not till two when we get another server. There are plenty of servers, but apparently some of the servers don't want to serve on the sand. We come to Squid Lips often, this is not the experience I want. I say plan ahead better with Lips GM. My family and I have been to the Squid Lips in Melbourne several times, but yesterday was the absolute worst! 1. My husband and I ordered adult beverages at the same time. His came out, my didn't. Five minutes later, the server(Mckaylane) wandered over and asked what I had ordered. 2. One of my kids ordered the lobster burger with fries, but when it came out it was just a plain burger with chips. When we pointed it out, it took another ten minutes for the server to bring out the lobster cake. We had to remind her after that about the fries. 3. Within five minutes of getting the forgotten burger, the server was back asking if we were done and needed boxes! She seemed offended when I said we were still eating. She came back about ten minutes later and asked if we were "still picking." 4. When we got our check, I asked about the 3.8% service charge, she very nonchalantly said it was to pay the back of house staff. I will say that both my husband and myself formally worked in the restaurant industry and try to tip at least 20% when we dine out, but this whole experience was terrible; I tipped well below that. Of the three Squid Lips locations in existence which we've tried all, Melbourne, Sebastian and Cocoa Beach, this one in Melbourne by far is not my best choice as the pick of the litter. Having been here multiple times, for some reason it does not compare with its coastal sisters! Yes they offer an amazing selection from steamed mussels to Baja Tacos, Fried Chicken Livers to Cajun Bacon Wrapped Scallops, and Coconut Shrimp to Conch Fritters (a fave dish of mine) and wide array of other selections. On our last visit recently, we were dismayed by the lackluster flavors compared to previous visits. Although you can't miss with my large ice-cold local Amber Bock, my Wife's Squid Lips Cosmo did not do so well, it did not resemble a Cosmo much, I should say, not even close! My better half ordered the Stuffed Flounder, which was pretty well prepared, but she was not very fond of the of some of seasoning used, it did not pair well with this type of fish! Last but not least, I was so disillusioned with my all-time fave South Florida Dish - Conch Fritters. Served along with a not so unique or flavorful Bahamian Fritter Sauce. So much so, most was left on the plate. Something I've never done with Conch! To my amazement, the server seeing so many leftovers, wasn't curious a bit as to why they were left behind. But I must say, the winner of the day was an excellent rendition of a flavorful and spicy rendition of Bahamian Conch Chowder - this chowder is highly recommended - Caribbean spicy, very flavorful and filling, my kind of Florida eats. Service and atmosphere are great, but caveat emptor on the offerings in Melbourne, they are not up to par with their other locations. Melbourn Squid Lips, you need to look up to your two other siblings and their attributes - and improve from your cohorts. We'll return though! read more

I believe it's always good to say something nice about a place or a person. Squid Lips, not only has one of the best names I have heard in a long time, but it also has a killer view. It's right on the water and you can watch the pelicans serve themselves up their version of sushi as you dine. Prepare to be jealous.. The place itself has a casual vibe that combats with not so casual prices. The price would be well worth it though for amazing food. Sadly you are not going to find amazing food but rather boring spice-less food. I had shrimp stuffed with lobster and crab. The only spice was salt and the shrimp were overdone and overrated. The vegetables were limp and cold, as though they had just been shuttled from the freezer. Three cheers for the potatoes which were not mashed, as noted, but scalloped but let's not quibble over the only bright spot on a lackluster plate and I don't generally even eat potatoes. My partner's mahi was similarly unimpressive. We both love fish and I would recommend you keep looking if you do too. read more

We had a great time with some delicious food. My husband ordered chicken wings with the house made bourbon honey bbg and I had the Albaco Fish Sandwich. Both were amazing. Haili was our server and was a dear. So sweet, helpful and attentive. We were able to sit at a table in the sand by the river just outside the "party" area. I love this location, and I've had a lot of good times here. The atmosphere and the drinks are great. Just don't order a Poke Bowl if you've had one elsewhere. It looked OK when it came out, but had maybe a Tablespoon worth of Tuna on mine, thinly spread, like paper, over the unflavored rice. You never felt like you were actually biting into anything. It also included some thin carrot and cucumber slices, but they weren't even crunchy. It contained almost none of the ingredients or flavors that define a Hawaiian Poke bowl that people expect: Pineapple, Avocado, Soy Sauce, Wasabi, Pickled Ginger... But it did have tortilla chips? Overall it had no flavor, and wasn't worth the money at all. My friends Fish & Chips were pretty good. I mean, if you can't get one of the most popular beers in America at a bar, wtf is this world coming to? And this mainstay of Melbourne decided to hop on that stupid train that's going nowhere? I assume they've lost a lot of customers, rightfully so. Anyway, back to food and service. I had conch fritters and two $5 drinks. Bill was almost $30. Totally not worth it. Especially because the drinks were watered down, and the conch fritters were fried in rancid oil. If there were any actual pieces of conch, I never saw them. First time here at squid lips and definitely won't be our last.. We started out with the oysters, they were soft and juicy and flavorful with the horseradish to give it a little kick.. The ahi tuna and chips were amazing so soft and fresh and the taste was Devine .. The crispy fish sandwich was so crunchy my husband devoured it .. The mussels were seasoned so well in the tomato sauce .. My friend ordered the mahi sandwich which he raved about. The drinks were good def ask for a floater if you want more alcohol in it. Prices were super reasonable don't think any of our meals were over 15.00 expect for the oysters at 20.00 a dozen .. I went with my group to Squid Lips on a Tuesday night. They have a large koi pond in front before you go inside with beautiful koi and a wharf in the back on the river. There is a musty smell when you first walk in, but it's an old building right on the water. Before 5: pm, There is happy hour with drink specials and some appetizer specials also. You can order chicken fingers, fish fingers, or calamari for $6.99. 2 of us ordered the calamari. Which were good but a little more chewy than I like. The server was attentive and was always smiling. There is a Tuesday special , a mountain of shrimp which is a double portion of fried shrimp. It comes with fries and coleslaw. They were real shrimp which had a really good flavor. The shrimp were way more than I could eat, a huge portion. I have heard the Abaco fish sandwich is excellent. I am going to try it next time I visit. We had a very nice time. read more

We normally check this place out when we come to town. We enjoy to the location. This visit we Kristin, I believe was her name. She took our order and brought our drinks. I ordered the Keys Combo, we asked what the potato of the day, we were told Roasted Red potatoes, I went with that. When our meal came it was Mashed Red potatoes. Instead of going to our favorite sushi spot, my husband and I decided to try out Squid Lips for his birthday since we had a $25 gift certificate that I won on the radio. We decided to sit outside. Our waiter got our drinks pretty quickly but it took a bit long to take our order. I was a little disappointed bc the full menu wasn't available because we sat outside, but ok we made it work. We ordered the lobster and crab cake, calamari, stuffed clams, raw clams and sangria. It took longer than expected to get our food and when it came, I nearly fell out. The portions were laughable. 4 mid tasting tiny stuffed clams for $18.99 was crazy work. The lobster crab cake was the size of a sand dollar. The raw clams were delicious but they were tiny and I nearly cracked my tooth on the sand and shell that were in them. The calamari and sangria were pretty good. We had to flag our waiter down to bring us the check which we understood and were patient about because he was running around like crazy since it was around 9:40 and the end of the night. We had already decided we weren't coming back but what solidified it was when I accidentally left my air pod at the table. We got to the car and I realized I left it. I ran to the back of the restaurant and asked the busser if he found an air pod. He said go ask "Jazzy" or "Jessie". I asked who that was bc I don't work there and he said "the girl in the green tank top" so I searched for a girl in a green tank top. I found her at the end of the bar. I said "hi, I was told that you might know where my airpod is. I accidentally left it here" She says "oh I think it's by the tree. I don't think I got it wet" and went back to what she was doing like I was completely bothering her. There are like 6 trees in the outside dining area so I asked the busser if he knew what tree she was talking about and he was just as confused. We ended up finding it but I just thought it was really rude to not walk a customer over and at least point to where it was. For a few bites of mid food and service her "couldn't be bothered attitude" was just the icing on the cake. Never again. read more
