I came in to relax and read a book today and a young girl on her speaker phone sat on the booth behind me. She had NO hearing issues of any kind but instead was disrespectful and disruptive to the people around her. All the people left that were sitting near her (the two booths and tables) and I moved TWO booths away, yet I could still hear her (and her friend on speaker). I asked to speak to the manager, Adam. He said nothing could be done about confronting her. Nothing!?! That maybe she "HAD A HEARING PROBLEM" and kept saying "you don't know that" when I said she was A YOUNG GIRL (that could clearly hear and was just being inconsiderate)!!!!! Please! A guy sitting at the table next to her's (with his little daughter) commented as I was moving "Are you moving because of that!?!" I just looked at him and nodded and he laughed in agreement but stayed in his uncomfortable state. Any number of the people that were verbally and physically uncomfortable around her could have said something directly to her but chose not to because maybe, they too, didn't want to enter into something that could have turned volatile. I decided to go directly towards the management to handle because they could confront her and/or ask her to leave... But no one is ever going to confront this little kid about her behavior and she will continue being a rude person...SMH I left the establishment because that is completely unacceptable!!! read more

Here is what I ordered... a Greek salad with chicken. No dressing. They insist upon putting dressing with it. They had exactly 2 pieces of chicken on the salad. One banana pepper, and some onions. We eat at the St. Louis bread Company about once a week the service is consistently inconsistent tonight when I picked up my rapid to go order I had to wait over a half hour and as I was asking the worker if my order was almost ready he pulled a piece of bread off of an order that of been sitting in the window for over 20 minutes and shoved it in my bag. I immediately asked for the store manager who was standing right next to him and asked for a refund. They both explained to me that no one had touched the bread. I asked if they could please adjust the air conditioning so that we wouldn't freeze (and our food wouldn't get cold) while we were trying to have lunch. There was a bite mark in our apple that appeared quite dry--probably due to the skin being pierced from someone else's teeth thus being exposed to air. Every single table is dirty and the trash cans are over flowing. Everytime I come to this one I have to ask for napkins to clean off my own table. St Louis institution has yet to figure out that one person at the register at 7:30 am does not provide the service needed for people trying to get to work. Love the food but all Panera / STL Bread locations are a logistical nightmare due to mismanagement at the corporate level. Someone is clearly making knuckleheaded decisions up there, like the decision to force "Rapid" Pickup orders to actually park their vehicles, walk clear across the entire restaurant, find their order on a shelf, walk back across the restaurant, back across the parking lot, back into the vehicle, pull out of a parking space that may or may not be blocked by a drive-thru line, and exit. Nothing "rapid" about it; all pickups should be done from the drive-thru window. It doesn't stop there. They've gone to the expense of putting in multiple self-serve touch screen self-order stations which I applaud... yet insanely, those terminals do not work with Apple Pay or even the secure chip on a credit card. You actually have to swipe the card. What? Who sold them this ridiculous obsolete junk and who would have approved it? Knuckleheads. Even the Pay at the human ordering stations only works half the time. Whoever is running the IT department needs to go back to school. And whoever hired them shouldn't be working in retail. read more

I've been coming here for years and I never write Yelp reviews and this one isn't really about the restaurant as a whole because I typically only come here during slow times of business but boy whenever I do and an older gentleman I believe his name is Kevin is here it is always SPECTACULAR. He's so pure and positive and I see him helping out all around. He's always greeting me with a smile and even on my worst days of studying he's made me smile with his attitude. Ordered a turkey sandwich that had a slaw mix on it. The bottom slice of bread was so soggy that I could not lift the wet mess. I took it back and the guy said, that's the way it was, because of the bread. What?, How about draining the liquid from the slaw? I usually come in once to twice a week and always have the same order, but it has modifications(me being needy I know) every time. Micheal the cashier is so accommodating about it and is just super friendly. All of the other employees are so great as well! I feel like they really care about the customer service. Overall, I think that St Louis Bread Company is a fabulous dining decision. The food is fresh, reasonably good for you, and delicious. I am usually one to over rate a business and give the benefit of the doubt. However, this location should be shut down. I have personally witnessed several health code violations, been served such sub-par food that it couldn't even be considered food, and witnessed offensive practices. Let me tell a little story... or several... about this location so that you might educate yourself. Story one begins on a Tuesday evening. I was on my way home from work, and decided that even though it was fairly warm outside, broccoli cheddar soup in a sourdough bread bowl was just the ticket. I went inside, placed my order, waited and excitedly took my order to go. I was about 20 minutes from my home, so I completed the drive and readied myself for a delicious cup of soup. I unwrapped the bread bowl, which was significantly undercooked, so instead of being soft and doughy on the inside and crispy light brown on the outside, it was all a taupe, not appealing ball of rubber. Being a bread lover, I can get over that. I opened the cup of soup, and where I expected a yellow-orange pigment, was met with a brown one. Yes. Brown. It was clumpy, and looked like chlamydia in a bowl. Against my better judgment, I took a taste of the disgusting concoction, and just about vomited. It tasted worse than it looked. I called the store and spoke to a female manager to advise her that she should dispose of the offending soup, and she informed me that I had waited far too long to contact her (it was within the hour of purchase), that soups are rotated out within the hour, that there is always slight color variances from the supplier, and that there is no way that what I was describing was possible. For the record, I have better things to do than call to report disgusting soup. I worked for Bread Company for a year and a half, and know what the soup is supposed to look like. It is not supposed to look like an STD. I ate the bread bowl for dinner and returned the soup the next morning to a much more appropriately apologetic male manager. Story two makes story one look like a superb experience. I went in to get a bagel one morning on my way home from a doctor's visit. As I was leaving, I noticed one of the cashier's (who was wearing an "Associate Trainer" tag) depart from his post. This was fine, as there was no one in line to order. He wiped his brow and adjusted his hat to smooth his hair. I then, watched him walk over to the bread slicer and with unclean, gloveless hands, he began to make croutons. A customer came to the counter, so he politely returned to his register to take their order and money. After politely assisting the people, he again returned to his task, adjusted his hat again, and proceeded to make croutons. I might mention that these very croutons are the ones used in the French Onion soup, Tomato soup, Tomato Mozzarella Salad and the Caesar Salad. Yummy. Besides the two stories that are bad enough, the tables are always dirty, the Wi-Fi is so slow it makes dial-up look jaguar fast, and the bakery items are always significantly over or under baked. I love St Louis Bread Company and will continue to eat there (yes, even after working in one for quite some time), but will NEVER eat in the Chesterfield Commons location again, and my advice is to stay away if you value your health and sanity. Yesterday on my way home from work I decided to get a Sierra Turkey sandwich from bread co. I went home to eat it and was about halfway done with my sandwich when I saw something in my lettuce that looked fairly abnormal. Well, abnormal it was, I pulled out of the lettuce on my sandwich, a dragonfly looking insect that was about the size of a half dollar. It had moldy slime on it and the eyes, legs, and full wing span were still intact on the thing. I have never really had an issue with Bread Co, at any location. However, when I called to explain what happened I was brushed off like it was no big deal, just an every day occurrence. Needless to say, it will be a while before I can stomach some Bread Co. bummer deal. read more

I usually LOVE stopping at bread co for a quick breakfast or lunch while I'm put running errands, or in between clients. However, lately its been very hit or miss. This morning, for instance, I ordered a sausage egg and cheese sandwich with egg whites. What I received was an egg white sandwich, no cheese, no sausage, just bread and an egg white. So naturally I took it back, told them it was not what I ordered. They looked at the order ticket and sure enough, I ordered a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich, with egg whites. So they tell me they'll fix it and bring it to my table. It didn't take long, but this time it came out with scrambled egg on it, bot egg whites..but at least it included the sausage and cheese. I didn't take it back, I accepted it, and ate it. Because for one I was hungry, and I was running out of spare time. I have been going to this location for over 10 years. Mind you I mostly use drive thru and rarely go inside.The one time in years that i do, i get SICK. I ordered the Frontega Chicken Sandwich and Broccoli Cheddar soup. First of all, i waited WAY too long for this order (for one). When i was the only order coming in besides one other. When i finally got my food, the soup tasted off. I've had a million broccoli cheddar soups from bread co and have never tasted one that was cold, flavorless and watery. The WORST part which made me sick, was the sandwich.... it had at most 3 pieces of chicken.One of the pieces looked pink and rubbery (RAW) and I immediately threw it away. 4 hours later i was dizzy, throwing up and weak.
