Went here for Father's Day and while my meal was good (grits collard greens & pulled pork) it wasn't much to write home about... another family member got soft shelled crab which she never had before but loves seafood and thought it was meh. But THEN... went again a few days ago and ordered the Salmon Orechiette. DO IT. Top five meals I've ever had honestly. We walked in and sat down at the bar. And once the bartender finished making out with her boyfriend she came and gave us menus and water and then did not come back. Seven other workers huddled around at the hostess stand including the manager saw us sitting there while the bartender played with her boyfriend did nothing. Great beer and wine selection, excellent outdoor seating area (biergarten), sub par food (fish and chips), average wait service, horrible hostess and wait times for inside dining, very overpriced, which culminates to an overall 2-star. Quite frankly, the restaurant would have received a four out of five stars if it weren't for the hostess staff. Initially, the wait time was 10 minutes for the dining area and 30 minutes for the outdoor seating area; this turned into 30 minutes for the dining area. After finally checking with the hostess staff about the table, the party of 3 was quickly seated in the dining area with 8 empty tables. Why the 30 minute wait when there are 8 empty tables in the dining area? Hostess, "We only have one server in the dining area and the remaining servers are tending to the outdoor area." The hostess proceeded to be very defensive and combatant in her responses. All in all, this is a great place for dabbling in beer/wine, but not for dining. read more

My husband and I went to St Moritz Grill & Bar on a friday night. The bar section was very crowded with happy hour. We made reservations and where quickly seated. We haven't been to this location in about 2 years. I remember the pathetic salad bar from previous owners. I don't mind going to family restaurants but only if the prices reflect family restaurant prices. Too many large tables with too many very young kids. Please parents don't have your children roaming the restaurant. We had the oysters which were very good but a little skimpy. The entrees were good. I had the salmon and husband had the catfish. Now for the bad part. The waiter was too too attentive. Please don't keep coming back and asking how the food was. If it's terrible you will hear. Between the noise and the waiter, it wasn't a relaxing meal. read more

The new owner turned the bar around in such a short period of time. The owner is great and knows how to work a room. New menu is excellent. We've now been a number of times and overall, the dining is"OK". The entrees we've had have been decent. I will agree with some other reviewers that the pork chop is wonderful! I will also agree that we do not like our steaks, etc, to be served ON TOP of the potato and vegetable! Our favorite time to go here is during their happy hour, when they have a short list of happy hour food choices. I love the mini double slider w/ fries. Just be sure to ask for the fries to be well done. Ours tasted good, but they were slightly undercooked and soft. A down side for us is when they measure out a glass of wine into a predetermined small wine glass, then proceed to pour the serving into a larger glass. Poor Class! It shows they must not trust their bartenders to serve a correct pour on their own. The dessert "shooters", while tasting good, are VERY small. My husband can finish one off in 2 bites. $2.99 for 2 bites isn't smart. read more

My family likes this place very much. A big improvement from when it was once Arthur's. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They can't do enough for you. I rarely get a good pork chop out at any restaurant. A friend of mine recommended the pork chop and I reluctantly tried it. It was awesome. I tend to order it a lot now. They have chicken and waffles, and my kids love it. They also have a rewards program that keeps us coming back with great deals. The owner and chef really aim to please, and really make it a point to talk to you and ask how thing are and what they can do to make your experience memorable. Really nice people. They just opened an outdoor beer garden this summer and looks to be a big success. If you are just looking for a steak house, I do not think you will be happy, as they only have 1-2 steaks on the menu. I have had the Rib eye a few times and once it was sub-par and they took it off the bill and offered me something else. The other two times I had the rib eye it was very good. Last St. Patricks Day we went there just to stop in and say hi to some friends and they had a great band and we ended up staying all night. Check this place out. read more

So we will start with walking in, the place has a Great Lake feel, and the bar is in a different shape than any other bar I've seen. Upon the hostess sitting my group and I , we were greeted by our waitress Ashley, she was very attentive and knew how to make our night. I must say in this part of New Jersey/ New York you don't get servers that are at as welcoming and nice to help with what ever you need. So thank you to Ashley the waitress for helping us out she made out night A++. With the food she also recommend us was the fish tacos and they were delicious. As well as the calamari app we had. The sauces that come with calamari compliment them really well. So thank you again to the waitress for her great recommendation and knowledge of how the food and beers were. It appears I'm not the only person with the following opinion: this place has had the same old boring menu for way too long... it would be different if their menu had creative dishes on it but it doesn't. I asked for extra lemons in my water. I got no lemons. Cheese costs $1 extra on the burger. That is a sin. The band, Captains of Leisure, was good, although the acoustics were bad. First -- ordered Tanqueray and Tonic. Watched bartender make drink and it was NOT Tanqueray. I let it go. Second -- ordered glass of wine. Had invited friends to our lake house for the weekend and was looking forward to sharing the St. Moritz experience with them,however, when I made the reservation, (which they accepted) I received a phone call shortly afterward telling me that they were not accepting reservations all this weekend (during the German Christmas Market) because they WERE EXPECTING SO MANY PEOPLE! Unbelievable! We own a restaurant in Westfield,NJ and would never think of doing this to a loyal customer! St. Moritz, you need to work on your loyal customer relations. While special events are great for your bottom line, your regular customer base is your bread and butter! read more

This place has HUGE management problems, we had a party of six that had made a prior reservation. When we arrived there was an okay atmosphere and it seemed to be nice. Our waitress Alexis asked us had we been there before and so on, explained the place was under new ownership & management, she was actually very nice. We ordered apps and drinks from her and there was no problems, service was kinda slow but it wasn't a problem. We ordered our main course, six of them as there was six of us, waiting, waiting waiting, finally the bus boy shows up with our food, of course the simplest order (my) of fish & over priced chips were missing. The bus boy had no idea and was very apologetic, I told him not to worry & don't worry about. Five minutes in to everybody eating their meal I have some waitress named Rachael telling me the chef burnt my fish & chips and she was gonna have the chef make a new dish from scratch, I told her not to bother as I wanted to eat dinner with my party, she come back with "that's cool" and she takes off. While my friends are eating I decide to take off to the bathroom to freshen up, on my return there was a fish & chip plate sat in front of my chair, Alexis had come over and admitted she had made a mistake and so on and she put the order in anyway after me declining the request. Rachael lied through her teeth. The food was terrible, for a main course that costs $19 to $23 I've ate better at fastfood. Horrible, the "seasoned fries" are disgusting, so over powered with cayenne pepper. We asked for the bill and for our 45 minute venue it cost us $219.79, we asked could we talk to the manager about maybe taking the fish & chips off the bill. When Jimmy the manager arrived he listened to our complaint and said since they're new they're trying to make things right, then tried to sell us the bonus rewards, if we were to spend $300 we get preferencial treatment on birthdays or anniversaries. He told us it was a " no brainer " and we could call him to reserve a table anytime. He just didn't want to resolve the problem. We heard the owner Keith Holmes was on site and we requested to his presence to let him know of our experience. He failed to deal with our problem or experience after putting $219.79 in his register. We done the right thing and tipped Alexis the appropriate amount due to it not being her fault. Over all this place sucks, the manager Jimmy sucks, and so does the owner Keith for sitting at his bar drinking his face off and not dealing with what's going on with his paying customers. We visit our friends in Newton NJ four times a year and are always looking for a good place to spend money and enjoy their hospitality. Unfortunately for them we'll never go back. I feel I've given this place waaaaayyy too many chances. The service is consistently slow, and unprofessional given the amount of money you are paying. It's just overpriced for what you get in terms of the food and service. I'm not sure why anyone would go there when you have Mohawk House in town. The food has never been horrible but is just kind of mediocre, and very pricey for what you get. I don't mind paying for quality but this place just isn't it. read more

Really did not have anything here I would order again. Salad arrived with minimal ingredients, chicken schnitzel had NO taste and the delicate sauce for the scallops with drowned in capers - I tasted nothing but salt - for hours. Waitress did not check on us enough nor did she fill our water even once. We had told her we had to be somewhere and were short on time and she took no extra care with us. Well I came into this restaurant with high hopes and immediately had to wait 10 minutes just for the hostesses to attend her post , even though it was not crowded. After finally being seated, I ordered a drink for my wife and I. As I walked back from the bathroom expecting the drinks to be served, I overheard 3 employees "trash talking" another table. They were judging the women at the table of what she was wearing and what she ordered to drink. As we did not want to cause a scene at the restaurant we let it slide, and continued on with our night. Our favorite place to go in Sparta! Food and service is always excellent. They do a lot for their patrons, especially if you join their loyalty program! The new owners have done a really nice job on this place! The music is better (live bands, but not too loud in the dining room), the menu is updated, and has some really interesting items. Last week, I enjoyed the muscles appetizer and the rib eye steak, cooked perfectly to my requirements. Another time we went, I had the scallops with a white chocolate sauce. Not kidding. It was out of this world!! Would highly recommend it. Service is good to great, depending on who you get. Last week, David was our waiter and he was very attentive and prompt. I've dined here a handful of times and although the first few times I was very impressed after not being a huge fan of the previous restaurant, Arthurs. Excitedly tried the shrimp & grits dish, I definitely can say it's my favorite dish on the menu. The apps are good, especially the spinach and artichoke dip. This past weekend my family and I stopped in, and for the first time I opted for something else. Got a regular burger, mac & cheese for 1 kid and kids sliders for the other, hubby got horseradish cheddar burger. First of all, the kids plates were brought out piping hot. I mean PIPING. My oldest daughter couldn't even touch hers, and at least at 7 she gets it. Try telling a younger, hungry kid not to touch their plate! Didn't work too well with the youngest. I'm all for piping hot food but there is an extent and also, being careful when it comes to children's safety is #1 in my book for a family restaurant. Anyway, my burger was cooked perfectly but nothing special, hubby's came out 1 slice of cheddar cheese on a large burger was a little skimpy...and he had to send it back because it was overcooked. The beer garden is open now, so the staff inside is slower than usual, which was a little annoying. Took a while to get the check and to have them collect the card for payment. This location always had potential to be a great place and when it was Arthur's that never happened. The atmosphere is now warm and cozy and the new owner actually cares about making your experience there a 10 (unlike Arthur's). They are constantly making improvements to the cosmetics of the building and the food menu is limited but excellent.
