I have been here twice. I love the atmosphere and the staff here are great. My only issue, and it is a big issue, is the food! We went as a family and then even a bigger family. Everyone had different entrees but everything was below average to average in taste. It was all bland food. Everyone had to use salt, pepper, and sauces for flavor. Between all entrees we had tilapia, grilled shrimp, pork chop, schnitzel, sliders, popcorn chicken, and Loiusiana stir-fry which should taste less like bbq sauce. That is an entree that I thought would be a homerun choice but over shoestring potatoes rather than rice? We did not want to make an issue out if it during dinner when the waitress asked how the food was. I would love to go back here, but only if they had a change in the menu and was adventurous with the spices. read more

Based on our last trip here (rating it a 4.5), we decided to come back, and boy oh boy, am I glad we did! My husband and I started out with a cup of soup & calamari, which was crisp and delicious. We added a small plate of shrimp and grits to our appetizers and it was amazing! The flavors were delightful and popped in your mouth revealing each tantalizing morsel, better than the next. It didn't stop there, the drink of the day was perfectly balanced and dinner didn't disappoint in the least. For dinner I had the flat iron steak (perfection) and my husband had the mixed grill. Each dish wonderful, compared to our first visit here years ago. Our server was outstanding and the atmosphere is upbeat. Yes, we will be back for lunch soon ... The best all around restaurant in the area...by far. Much more affordable than the Mohawk House and much better food too. Relaxed atmosphere with great servers who really know their stuff. We were in town for an appointment and had some spare time for lunch, so I turned to Yelp for a recommendation (not from the area). What a nice find! Much cozier than I expected and the food was very good. I had a veggie burger and my fiance had salmon over salad. I tried his salmon and was very impressed! It was wood grilled and super moist. Great meal and great atmosphere. However, when I ordered my Cabernet I was given the house and another option which was highly recommended. I chose the second option. It was great wine. However when we received the bill it was $20 per glass. In Sussex County, the next step up is typically $11-14 more than the house wine....if that. I was floored. Just a heads up about this. We went here Friday night for dinner with friends, tip one MAKE A RESERVATION. The place was packed! Other restaurants on the plaza were empty. That is probably because the food is excellent the service good. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is the atmosphere. You can't hear the person across the table, we found ourselves yelling our conversation. Will definitely go again hopefully some acoustic soundproofing will be added by then. read more

We traveled from the Parsippany area with a party of five. It was a beautiful drive on a crisp summer night and everything was uphill from there. We were seated outside at the Beer Garden with lots of folks. The service was excellent, the food was delicious and the drinks were perfect. We all commented on how it was so worth the short drive. After dinner, we were tempted to stay and enjoy the band that was just starting up in the bar but decided to take a stroll along the lake to end a great evening. read more

The absolute worst customer service experience I ever had in my life. I would rate them a zero if it was available. The hostess told us we had to wait 30 minutes for seating which was fine but no one was before us or after us so we waited. After waiting 20 minutes of waiting I asked her again why we haven't been called in yet while there was no one coming in at all for their many empty tables. She replied we have a lot of reservations today and you just have to wait till they all come in. I asked to speak to a manager and the manager told me we aren't excepting walk ins today even though there were more then 10 available tables just waiting for customer to be seated. I politely asked the manager if I could just be seated with my family after waiting my time and he goes' "we are not excepting new customers" even though a customer in the distance said , "we didn't have a reservation either let them be seated." I told the manager you lost a customer for life and he goes too bad so I left and wrote my review. I felt extremely discriminated just for the color of my skin. This place should be boycotted because of the harassment and discrimination from the workers and management!!!! Absolutely horrible disgusting behavior and I will reporting this to everyone I know! read more

I am a local who has been here a few times since the new owner took over and gave the place a interior makeover that took away some of the dark, dour vibe and made the place a bit warmer. I have had a chance to try various menu items and have been happy with everything that I have sampled ranging from a scallops dish and pork chops dishes grilled over their signature wood chips method to shrimp with grits and the fried chicken and waffle. They have even added some very good draft beer selections including a IPA which made me happy. The new owners seem to put a major focus on the service as the staff for the most part are exceedingly friendly and attentive which is nice but possibly over the top for some tastes. The prices aren't bad and as it stands now will see myself as a regular there until further notice. read more

Three winners last night! My Glazed Salmon was delicious, and nicely balanced by the orzo with diced sweet potato. JP's Beef Short Ribs were savory and tender. Mom's Filet Mignon was perfectly medium rare, as requested. We shared, and enjoyed, the calamari appetizer and the stove-pipe salad. Really awful food. I ordered the pop shrimp and fried plantains. Not spicy, bland, and the fried plantains were just plantain chips thrown in. Dirty martini was awful, couldn't drink it. Filet medallions were over cooked and tough and drowning in horrible BBQ sauce. I couldn't even eat it. For the prices it was very disappointing. Better off going to the pub across the street for a decent burger. read more

Very good food & service. Party of 6 for b'day dinner...great variety of appetizers (I had mussels w chorizo) but all were outstanding. Great variety of dinner entries (tried the beef tips w mashed potatoes & asparagus) but I was able to taste my daughter's entree, CHICKEN SCHNITZEL, which was outstanding and which I will order when I return. My family and I came here to celebrate my wife's birthday, 2/10/19, and I was dissatisfied not with the waitress who was great, but the food. Who serves prime rib dry and over cooked when asked for medium rare. When I asked for steak sauce I was told they only had A1 and no other. Finally I then asked for some an jus for myself and others. We have been here twice and both times had amazing meals! The prices are reasonable, service great, and food is spot on. We made reservations for Friday night and were seated right away. We shared a calamari app and for dinner I had a grilled seafood dish with a potato side dish. My hubby had a filet done Oscar style which was cooked just as he ordered. I would have given 5 stars but the decor definitely needs some updating. The 1990s carpet has got to go! We will be back for more delicious food! read more

Last night, I had the pleasure of dining at The St. Moritz Grill and Bar and had to share my experience. The cuisine they serve is not what i would refer to as "standard restaurant fare", it's more like scientifically crafted artistry. I suggest patrons prepare their palate for a culinary experience that is nothing short of magical. My party had 3 entrees, each one seemingly outdoing the other in taste and creativity. First, the presentation is first class, the staff was very attentive and courteous, and the kitchen produced our food in good time. We were even 15 minutes late (which I called to notify the maitre d of), the restaurant was packed, but our table was waiting. I had the Smokin Pork Chop, my wife ordered the Cajun Catfish and my mother had the Veal T-Bone. The pork chop was thick and juicy and smoked to perfection. A light taste of smoke permeated the whole piece of meat but didn't overpower the other flavors designed into the dish; this was a common theme in all the meals, the care taken in seasoning the meats, sauces and side dishes was exceptional. The chop was served with a BBQ sauce that was light and tasty, the perfect accompaniment for the meat, but what really stole the show was the onion relish that topped my chop. The relish added just the right combination of flavors to turn what would be a seemingly simple order into a masterpiece of culinary design. The Cajun catfish was another delight. My wife is a picky eater, and will notice if something isn't cooked to perfection. She found the fish to be tender, but well done, with a seasoning that was spicy but not too hot. Mixing the perfectly prepared cheesy grits with the uniquely done fried kale produced what can best be described as another home run in culinary design. The Veal Tbone was produced with very high quality meat, and the melt in your mouth tenderness lifted it into a class of it's own. The band started playing about 9pm, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that it didn't interfere with our dining by way of volume, but rather worked to enhance our dining experience. Later, upon entering the bar area, the atmosphere took on a night club feel that was distinctly different from the dining area. For desert, we sampled the desert "shooters". The perfect finish to a perfect meal. I would recommend them highly, just the right size. At other restaurants, I have never found myself leaving thinking "I am going to have to sample the whole menu...", but leaving St. Moritz, that was exactly what I was thinking. Each dish was spectacular, I can't wait to go back and see what other magic the chef has in store. read more

Finally decided to try this place and went on a Sunday and fell in love with the atmosphere and being able to sit outdoors. They have two menus (a lighter one and the regular menu). The regular dinner menu is a bit pricey, which is why I'm glad they offer another menu that's more affordable for families. I was able to bring my child and they ate their popcorn chicken and loved their fries. Food was delicious. Wait staff friendly and professional. Will definitely go back with the family again sometime soon. read more

First time / Last time at St. Moritz. Party of six for dinner with a reservation. Without a reservation, they were quoting 35 minutes for indoor seating, an hour for outdoors. We were seated promptly and the waitress took our food and drink orders. Drinks came quickly and then we waited... and waited... and waited. We received one salad, which was being split as an appetizer, and nothing else. The restaurant was busy, but not overly so. Not sure if our waitress had quit mid-shift or was just ignoring us, we soldiered on... with no food. Finally, an hour and ten minutes after ordering, our plates arrived. This wasn't a complicated order. A cheeseburger, an order of mussels, an entree salad, a veggie burger and a 'triple swine' burger. The swine burger was ordered medium but came very well-done. The veggie burger, oddly, came without a roll. When asked about this, the waitress asked if I wanted a roll and i told her that i had expected one. She brought a roll and placed it my plate. The burger was good and seemed to be homemade. A very small salad accompanied, but no fries, which DID come with the regular burger and also with the mussels. The mussels were very good. We tried to get our waitress, to no avail, and when we asked a different waitress to help, a manager stepped in. Told about the overdone burger she took it away. Within a few minutes, we had all finished our meals, but the swine burger wasn't back from the kitchen yet. In this entire time, now over 90 minutes, the waitress never asked us if we wanted more drinks (We Did!). She never asked us how things were (The food was good). She *did* make an appearance to finally bring out the pork (re-hired?) but wasn't at all friendly during the meal. Two stars based on pretty good food pretty bad service. read more

I had dinner here with friends several weeks ago, and the experience was pretty good, so I decided to stop in for lunch with my wife today. The valet parking was nice; since parking is at a premium in this tiny hamlet, we were able to give the car up and walk into the restaurant without driving around looking for a spot. The place has a cozy lake cabin feel, and the outside dining was comfortable and well shaded. We were seated pretty quickly, and the service was attentive. I ordered a beer and the fish tacos. My wife had the Santa Fe salad and an iced tea. The tacos came with a side of beans and rice, which were pretty bland. Each of the three small tacos had a breaded fish rectangle reminiscent of the "Mrs. Paul's Fish Sticks" my mom used to serve on Friday nights when we were kids. If I had to guess, I'd say St. Moritz's "sticks" were frozen like Mrs. Paul's; not freshly made. Their "sticks" only lacked a cheap tartar sauce to be a complete replica of my mom's culinary effort. Instead, these had a small drizzle of a pretty tasty sauce, along with some cabbage and lettuce. If they upped the quantity of sauce, the dish might have had some flavor. But as it was, it was dry and pretty much tasteless. My wife said her salad was okay, but I noticed her cutting away small pieces of the "fajita chicken," because it was burned black. So that's about it. For about fifty bucks, plus tip, there are better places around here for sure. read more

Four of us went for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy and even though they had valet parking, cars were lined up in the street, making the parking a nightmare. We ended up parking on the street about two blocks away. Our table was ready but it was partly in one dining room and partly in the bar. I got to look at a column all night or the backsides of people standing up against the column. As we looked at the menu, our waitress took our drink order. Once we received our drinks, we ordered our food. Again, since the restaurant was busy, it took a very long time for our food to arrive. Everything we ordered was delicious! Two of us had the Jersey Fish and Chips, one had the Salmon and the other had the Scallops. Once we finished our meal, our waitress asked if we wanted coffee and dessert. We told her that we would be we would like to wait awhile but she brought us a dessert menu anyway. We looked at the dessert menu and we all decided what we wanted. Our waitress returned and asked us about desserts. Again, we told her that we wanted to wait but she said that she would just take our dessert order and we could let her know when we wanted it. Ten minutes later, our waitress asked us if we were ready for our dessert and coffee! We ordered our dessert and coffee but we felt very rushed in doing so. We had a $20.00 off coupon to use that night and we were waiting for the waitress to come back and ask us if we wanted anything else after dessert. Instead, she just came back with our check. I gave her the coupon and my credit card and she said that she would adjust the check with a $20.00 credit. When she returned, there was no check in the binder, only a credit card receipt for me to add a tip and to sign. I called the waitress over and told her that I needed to see the check. I wanted to make sure that the $20.00 coupon was taken off and I needed to see the subtotal amount, since I do not tip on tax. When she returned, she told me that the coupon was expired and it was never taken off the check. I told her that I received the coupon via an email just days before from this restaurants website. She said that she would ask the manager if it was okay to use and he said that it was okay. We didn't like our table location and we didn't like the way we were rushed to order dessert and coffee after dinner. We certainly didn't like that they tried to "rip us off" by not taking off the $20.00 coupon and then not even telling us that they were not, by only bringing us back the credit card receipt and not the check. Also, if you are looking to have a nice quiet dinner with conversation, this is not the place to go. When we were first seated, we had to talk loudly at each other just to hear one another. Once the band started playing, all conversation came to an end, since we could not talk above the music. read more

Never had a bad time here. Food, drinks, and entertainment are always great. They have a private room for special occasions, dance floor, full bar, seasonal menus, a more quiet dining area, and outdoor dining. Great service too! I only wish they served more vegetarian and especially vegan options. We're tired of salads everywhere we go! read more
