Value is the best description. Most places that we looked at were booked. Chose here. Did not realize it was a motel. I'm not a fan of doors opening up into the parking lot, personal choice. The room was very clean, updated and modern. The beds were comfortable. If you have to do business, this is not the place, Wi-Fi is extremely weak, even at their front desk. They also advertise free breakfast but it is very minimum compared to other hotels. The pictures below are taken in a way it does not show the full view. All other bad reviews made me think that people expect this little hotel to be like a 5 star hotel let me remind you it's a 3 star. I've never stayed at a place like this before but I would if I ever get the change, it's very clean and I now it's a little cramped on a 2 queen room but it's comfortable. They did a remodeled which was done nicely and I really think it's worth the money I paid for. Only thing I didn't like was that they only have 1 washer and 1 dryer for the whole hotel. Pool looked clean and the lady in the front was awesome. Breakfast is the basic, toast, cereal, and such but it's enough to get you to brunch. read more

I will only provide a review for the front desk service and our King Suite accommodations. We did not take part of their complimentary breakfast or use the pool. I felt OK walking around the room bare foot. The bed was comfortable and there were lots of pillows. The A/C & heater, closet safe, flat screen TV and refrigerator worked fine. For the amount of money I spent for a King Suite with a fireplace, bar, flat screen TV, free wi-fi (speed was fine for our usage) was a great deal. I paid the same price for half the space at another motel/hotel in the area a year before. Our room was on the second floor. We did not hear any noise from the parking lot or from our neighbors room. We reserved the hotel through Hotels.com and go to our hotel around 2:30pm. We went in the front desk area (which was small and decorated ugly), and there was no one there. Well, we could hear them talking in the back room, but no one was in the front. Waited a couple of minutes, then said "Excuse me.." and some dude finally came out and helped us. He wasn't very friendly. He gave us our key and we walked to our room. We noticed that we got an ADA room (as it was marked on the door), and they didn't say anything to us. We went back into the office and asked if there was another room available, non-ADA. The guy told us no, and a lady came out (I'm assuming his wife) and basically told us too bad, we booked the cheapest room online, and thats what we got. B*itch! We weren't even talking to you! She then proceeded to tell us there were no differences in an ADA room and a non-ADA room. OH REALLY??? Being wrong, we called her on it, she acted stubborn and said again that is what we get for booking a cheap room. Turns out, we paid an extra $30 bucks to get a different room. The room itself was plain, boring, the pictures were too small on the walls (out of scale with the room). They did have free HBO though (and full cable). And the place was clean. The bathroom was probably the nicest part of the hotel room. Wouldn't come here again. Pricey for what we got and rude people! NO THANKS! read more

My husband and I stayed here this past weekend. We stayed one night as a little getaway. The pricing was affordable (by Monterey standards). We were pleasantly surprised by the rooms. It's an older hotel, but all the rooms are clean and updated. I especially appreciated the wood floors, as carpeted hotel floors always make me nervous. The front desk staff was personable when I checked in. Provided a map and some coupons for local eateries. We only had a few small issues while we were there. The most annoying being the AC unit in our room. It was super loud and whatever we did, we couldn't get it to maintain a temperature. (I flipped every switch and turned it on every setting with no avail). Unfortunately we didn't really realize what an issue it was until we were trying to sleep. I notified the person at the front desk on check out and he seemed to think it was operator error (which I doubt, but who knows) The second was that all of the TV stations had static, which made watching TV a little annoying, but we were on vacation so we weren't watching much tv anyway. The third is that the fridge had a musty smell, like it had been wet and not aired out properly. We didn't really have anything to put in there, so I wasn't too concerned. All in all, I would stay here again and would recommend it to friends. Next time, I will make sure the AC unit is working before we go to bed! read more

This inn goes by the name 'America's Best Value Inn' as well... The inn was more than OK. We booked two queen rooms (130$ a pop), one of the rooms got upgraded to a king bed. The owner was very helpful and handed us a map of the local area when we arrived. He answered all our questions as well. The rooms are nice and all have a huge big screen TV with HBO (we didn't use the TV as we didn't have too much time but there was a leaflet lying nearby). The breakfast was OK, they had 3 kinds of juices, coffee, tea, croissants, danish pastry, and different kinds of flakes. We would go there again! read more

Last minute plans during 4th of July. Family decided to come out to the Carmel beach during the busy weekend. It was such a pain in the you know what trying to find a room 2 days before the weekend holiday. I was lucky enough to find this place. Should have booked it directly from their website which could have saved me $20.00. Booked from Expedia. If you have a honor student report card you get another $20.00 discount. The rooms were pretty impressive. Small but clean and modern. Breakfast was nothing amazing but decent. Room was $252 after tax during July 4th. Dropped my daughter off to CSUMB, I chose this hotel based on the reviews. The room was impeccably clean. The amenities in the room were way better than what I was expecting. The furnishings were comfortable and well appointed. Friendly staff, great location, safe, quiet and a perfect place to stay for sightseeing. We purchased a deal on Groupon. We love Monterey so we were excited to be able to stay here for a reasonable price. The rooms were simple but clean. The continental breakfast was basic but plentiful. The customer service was absolutely excellent. We check in after 10pm and they offered to do our paperwork in the morning. If there was another deal on Groupon, we'd plan to come back because we felt that they provided good customer service for the price we paid. I felt like the place had a family friendly vibe. Oh and on a side note, my husband, my 8 month old, and I got a room for 4 nights and my parents also booked a room for 4 nights. and they put our rooms next to each other even though we were the last people to check in that day. read more

For Monterey this is a hidden little gem. A little off the beaten path but a quick drive to all points of interest. We stayed here in April 2015 and it was 95.00 including tax. They also did not put a hold for any incidentals which was surprising but nice! For the reasonable price you can not beat it. It was perfect for what our needs were for one night. It was clean and newly decorated. I really liked the hard wood floors and granite in the bath. From the outside looking in or if you drive by here you would never know how nice the rooms are. The office was neat and clean with lots of natural lighting. Staff was very friendly, helpful, and they gave us lots of useful sightseeing tips. The Lodge is just minutes from Cannery Row, the Aquarium, and Lovers Point Beach. They offer a Continental breakfast and have a pool which my junior traveler just loved. The Lodge has ample parking and our room was easily accessible from the lot. Our room was spacious and I just loved the bathroom and countertop; you can tell that the rooms have been upgraded in recent years. Our wifi worked fine in the room which was very quiet and clean. The beds were comfortable and they provided lots of pillows. Our room had a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, dressing area, and safe. Overall I am very pleased with the service and amenities that my family received while staying at the Lodge. The rate was very reasonable and worth what we paid for our room. This was a great place for our style of vacationing. The room is spacious, clean, and has a fridge and coffee maker. The location is central to everything we wanted to do in the area, and the staff was super friendly. The wifi is free, and worked great. The bed was comfortable. I stayed here for one night with two friends during a road trip. The lodge doesn't have the bells and whistles of a name brand resort, but we really enjoyed it. I'm giving this place 4 stars for the ROOM. We booked this hotel for Thursday night and it was very nice and clean. The bathroom was very clean also. I spotted a few ants around the bathtub but couldn't figure out where they were coming from. This was not a big deal to me since it was only about 4 that I quickly washed away. The minus 1 star is because if the Internet. They advertise high speed internet but it was like not having wifi at all. We didn't make it on time for breakfast but I had looked for a breakfast restaurant already due to the breakfast reviews. All in all it was a great clean room at a great rate. Stayed here one night on 11/9/14 and was very happy with the room. The room was clean and comfortable with a VERY nice tub that my aching feet appreciated after a day of wandering around Cannery Row and The Aquarium. Only problem I had was since we were staying Sun-Mon, they kicked up the leaf blower VERY early on Monday Morning and Maintenance/Housekeeping Crews were yelling to/at each other as early as 7am right outside our room. I poked my head out and said "Do you mind? We are sleeping," and the cleaning woman rolled her eyes at me and walked away. The leaf blower didn't stop for another half hour but luckily my honey can sleep thru the apocalypse. There was also no "Do Not Disturb" sign anywhere to be found.. But the front desk was very nice. Beware they charge a $50 incidentals fee and if you use a debit card to pay that, it takes upwards of 10 days after checkout to be released back into your account. (Its been 8 days and we still haven't received the refund) But this is my financial institution's issue, I believe, so I don't blame the hotel. Would recommend and would stay here again. It is a little off the beaten path and a search for a nearby grocery store/restaurant showed us in order to eat or restock toiletries, etc.. it was a trek. read more

This hotel was just delightful! The staff was courteous and attentive and the maid went above her required tasks because I fell asleep with a cup of coffee and it spilled on the bed. The manager, when I asked, said no, I was pleasantly surprised then when I returned from my breakfast search to find not only my bed changed, but the room straightened and cleaned. I have never tipped hotel personnel, with the exception of baggage assistance. This action screamed for me to reward the very gracious young lady. I gladly did so!! This is my husband and I's second stay at Stage Coach Lodge and it has gone downhill. Upon entering the room, there was some sort of smokey stench (which didn't make sense because this is a non-smoking property). We started to unpack and proceeded to hang our clothes in the closet - or not! The closet smelled like takeout food... it was extremely disgusting and was probably caused by the previous guests. However, this is not an excuse because housekeeping should have taken notice and accommodate for the next guest in some way. So, we put our clothes back into our luggage... The room itself appeared clean but is pretty outdated. The wall and floors creaked every time our neighbor walked in, out and around their room. Pretty bizarre since our room is on the second floor (there isn't a third floor), so it wasn't the ceiling that was creaking - it was the walls. Our neighbors turned in quite late and were clearly drunk, making it difficult for us to fall asleep given their loud talking AND the creaking room. The bed (king size) is also old - you can tell right away how lumpy and springy it was by just sitting on it. The pillows are not fluffy and falls flat as soon as you lay your head down on it. Worse night sleep ever :(. My husband checked-out while I brought our things to the car. He said the gentlemen didn't say much and didn't ask how our stay was. If I wasn't so hungry I would have went back in to tell him how crappy our experience was. Our first stay in 2013 or 2014 (can't remember) was a lot more enjoyable. It wasn't worth $100+ (a Saturday) and we certainly will not be back. read more

We have stayed here before. They met our special need by putting my wife and I in a downstairs room next to my 90 y/o mother who could not do stairs and who gets apprehensive if our room is not close to hers. My mother had actually fallen a few days prior in a different town, only the second fall of her life, and the only reason I knew this was that I had a room next to hers. Two other hotels in other towns-we were on a road trip which my Mother enjoys-did not meet our need despite me calling them a week ahead and their being much pricier. The manager and his wife are pleasant and professional. The hotel is in a great location just a couple miles from tourist activities but in a quieter location. There is no elevator however so plan accordingly. Very clean and all the features we need. Any recommendation I would give would be for a grab bar next to the toilet and possibly in the shower for the older guests. Again a big thanks to the staff. read more

I will say Stage Coach Lodge is Monterey's "secret" get a way hotel. It is nestled back within a small community off Highway 1 and definitely within a few miles from all the tourist ventures in Monterey county. One could only feel the comfort of relaxation and serenity once you enter the spacious room with the comfort of a king bed, amenities for every need, and the biggest hit of the room....a fireplace! The hotel managers observed the mandates of COVID from first check in greeting, to an immaculately clean room, and ease of check out. Mr. Manager made a special visit to our room to extend anytime call for future needs as maid service is not available daily due to COVID. Oh, why was I not keeping within the "stay at home" rule you may ask? Well, I made accommodations for my brother and his family, to include a new born infant son, here in Monterey so they could escape the hazardous aftermath of the fires in Vacaville, Ca. They were all pleasantly comfortable and felt safe! I would choose Stage Coach Lodge over the Hyatt any day! This is THE "go to" spot for me and strongly recommend to all who have Monterey in your next vacation plans or just a weekend sanctuary for peace, quiet, and relaxation! read more

The Stage Coach Lodge was a pleasant surprise. We needed a last minute place to stay and found this gem. The room was clean and met out needs. It had a microwave and fridge and a keurig coffee maker. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were firm and not squishy. I got a good night's rest. The AC got cold and the water got hot. And best of all the rate was under $200 per night. The location is not bad- you are a short car drive away from the Cannery, Wharf, etc. The rooms are clean but the double beds are small. Here is why we gave only the 2-stars and why we probably won't stay here again: We came up for the weekend to visit our son who is a student at CSUMB. On the morning we were checking out, our son came by to meet us for breakfast. I noticed an Indian lady walking around trying to peak into any open door. Our door was open so she saw my son in the room helping my wife pack. When I checked out the same lady was working the front desk and tryed to charge me an extra fee assuming he had spent the night in our room! I stayed at this lodge on 3/1/2013 and 3/2/2013. Purchased a groupon voucher for a two night stay in a deluxe queen room. Upon my arrival the clerk was having a discussion with a maintenance worker and did not acknowledge my presence for approximately 5 minutes. The clerk finished her conversation and we began the check-In process. She didn't hesitate to inform me that the lodge was losing a ton of money with the groupon offer and the only reason they offered a groupon discount was to gain future business. Duh..... Finally I was given the room key and proceeded to my room. The room was spacious and freshly remodeled. However when we arrived my children noticed the heated pool outside which was small but all in all still a heated pool. Pool hours specified 9am to 9pm which is a reasonable time frame. The funny thing was we arrived on Friday,mind you we checked in at 5pm when the lodged parking lot seemed vacant and the pool was open. On Saturday morning the parking lot full of cars and lodge rooms full of groupon guests, my children went to the pool to swim at 10am AND there was a closed for winter sign posted WTF......... OH YEAH and who can forget how uncomfortable they made us feel at breakfast time. My wife and children were eating along with all the other paid guests and who do they decide to ask for there room number and take a head count of there family to verify they didn't exceed the maximum guest in a double queen deluxe room US...... WTF this is no way to do business...... read more

I came in town for a long weekend and was looking for something near the beach that wouldn't break the bank. Easy walk to everything in town too. The rooms look like they were recently remodeled. Stayed for two nights over the July 4th weekend. Woke up to find another patron's car parked in the middle of the parking area. We went into the office to ask them to contact the owners of the car to ask them to move, so that we could get out. They did not know who the car belonged to, nor were they in any hurry to find out who the owners were. They did nothing!! Although we were able to maneuver our car out of our spot, it was VERY difficult. The next morning, we awoke to make some coffee in the room and found the coffee service was not restocked, which is not a huge deal, but when a dialed 0 (7:00 am)to let them know this and that I would like to come down and get some cups and coffee filters, I was told that the continental breakfast area opens in 30 minutes and to come down then. WHAT!! After yesterday mornings adventure, I told them we were ready for coffee now. He was there is 5 minutes but had forgotten the creamer. We won't be staying here again. read more
