I wanted to love this place because the decor is cute and the menu is expansive but it was just okay. First of all there was no direction so I was confused on whether to order at the register or if someone came to the tables. Also it was full of boxes and stock so it wasn't as pretty as I expected it to be. Lastly, I had the breakfast tacos and pancake beignets, the tacos were not really for me as there just wasn't a lot of flavor. I expect to wait for table on a Sunday morning, but that was an hour; then there was a 20 minute wait to stand in line and place our order. Once the order was placed, it was almost another hour before our food arrived. My order was wrong but because it was keyed in wrong at the register and I did not catch it, no effort was made to make it right. My husband's food was cold. I've been to this location 4 times in the past 2 years, but this time it was different. In the past I've always had an A plus experience. This time it was a D minus. I ordered a Strawberry Shortcake pancake stak and a Breakfast Burrito. My pancake stak looked like someone threw up on it. I mean the presentation was horrible and the burrito only had 3 small quarter-sized pieces of breakfast sausage in it. The rest of the burrito was just filled with scrambled eggs. Came on busy day. Clean establishment. Pancakes came out hot however sides like bacon took 15-20 minutes to come out. Not my usual experience. My son's food came out first then 15 minutes later MY pancakes came out with HIS bacon. Waited 15 more minutes for my bacon to come out. That is AFTER I inquired about it with a server. Got a coffee no spoon. Pancakes big but however no real flavor. I was hoping bacon would bring out taste. Saw other tables receiving bacon that ordered way after me. Finally got my bacon by that time I was over eating my pancake so I gave mine to my son he seemed to love its flavor. Kinda disappointed. I will give another chance on a non busy day. We are from Austin, TX and stopped on today for breakfast. This place is really terrific. Great food, the staff was friendly and attentive. Our only mistake was ordering too much food! We FINALLY found the time to visit Staks! I've been wanting to drop in and do breakfast for some time now. On this visit we kept it simple. My wife did the chicken biscuit with the sriracha honey glaze and I did the eggs, bacon, and buttered pancakes. No frills, just simple, buttered pancakes.. Staks did not fail to impress. So! My wife (celiac) and I have gone there a couple times for breakfast and both experiences were awesome. If you're going there on a weekend, I'd recommend doing well before 9 AM (that's when the line gets long). I've only had the breakfast burrito which is, in my subjective opinion, probably the best in town (spot previously held by Pimento's). Since it's their specialty, I ordered pancakes for my side and they were very good but to be fair, I'm not really a pancake person and far from a connoisseur. But wow, that burrito is great. My wife really likes their Buckwheat (gluten free) pancakes but has commented that she wished they did a half order since they're so filling. Probably her only other piece of constructive criticism would be to expand the gluten free options a bit further for those that aren't big on the non-buckwheat pancake options such as omelettes. I joined the waitlist online before arriving, which is highly recommended during their peak hours. It's a small dining area, so the wait times were pretty long. When I arrived I checked in with the host, who handed us a menu to look over while we waited. Once your table is ready, you then get in line to place your order. The food is then brought to your table once it's done! I ordered the breakfast quesadilla with a side of Gouda grits. The quesadillas were pretty good and it was a very nice sized serving. The Gouda grits, on the other hand, were undercooked and not good at all. I didn't even finish my serving. The service was good! Everyone was pretty nice and helpful. I'm not a pancake person but I had to try out the food because we are using this catering company for a big donor event. What turned out to be work for me actually ended up to be a wonderful experience. Come have a look at this place it's very unique and you'll know what I mean when you sit down on a turquoise leather booths. Aside all that, it's all about the food. We tried several dishes from the grits to pancakes to the magical chicken sausage skewers. Everything was great. Coffee was great. We don't feel bad that at 9am, we ordered grapefruit margaritas... sooo refreshingly wonderful. Their biscuits and gravy you need to try.. and I'm not a gravy person and yet I loved their biscuits and gravy. Oh... we noticed the large tables with Cook your own pancake stations. First time here, had a lot of different dishes. It's a nice change from the ordinary breakfast. I the shrimp & grits and while they are good they're a bit too heavy for this early. I also had the pimento cheese BLT which was also good and a side of the truffles sweet potato fries. I brought home half of my sandwich and shared my fries with my honey and ate some of her salad, the blue cheese dressing is loaded with big hunks of delicious blue cheese. They have a unique feature with a big long table in the back with griddles built in to the table top where you get to pour and grill your own pancakes, yep right there in front of you with a couple of spatulas. You also pick and choose the things you want to put in like blueberries, chocolate chips, etc. It's a novel and cute idea that I might try on my next trip to the establishment. I see that they have also opened a new location in Germantown, cool. The people are very nice and attentive and they keep your drinks refreshed and pick up your finished plates, yes they have nice plates and silverware which is a nice touch for a place where you order and pay for your food when you arrive. The menu has some nice and eclectic offerings like the low card burrito breakfast without the tortilla, that's what my wife had but in the end she said it would have been better with the tortilla added. Overall the place is clean, bright and they are they early and open until 2pm. It was a good first time experience and while I enjoyed it I probably will not make it my every day breakfast stop but definitely will be back when I am looking for something different and as a change from the ordinary morning fare. Went to staxs on poplar today for first time. No host at host stand , sat ourselves ,waited 5 minutes,never got greeted at table. 3 servers went by table fast. Very poor service. In a restaurant customers should be greeted in 3 minutes or less. I waited tables for years. I would not recommend this business. An employee cleaning a table next to us saw us get up to leave and did not show any concern or why we were leaving. We never got menus either. No excuse for such poor service. Management is to blame. I've heard so much greatness about this place and had a very high expectations. Didn't realize it was a pay up front place but that was fine because we were able to have our order recited back to ensure it was correct. I had the avocado toast with over medium eggs and a cup of fruit. I asked upfront if I could get no melons or less melons in the cup. My boyfriend ordered the two egg breakfast with bacon and pancakes. We also got the breakfast egg rolls as an appetizer. It took them over 10 minutes to bring our drinks which were incorrect; we ordered margaritas and they gave mimosas. We told them of the error and it took them and it took them another 10 minutes to bring out the correct drinks. Mind you, we have yet to receive any of our food. After we've finished our drinks the food comes out. We've watched two other parties who were after us sit, eat, and leave. His food was freshly made but my avocado toast was cold. And I don't know if you've ever had avocado toast but it's usually a spread of avocado, similar to guacamole just without the other ingredients. They sliced some avocado and placed it on the toast. The toast itself was cold enough to make the cut resist. I was not given what I was told and I will probably never go back. The food was excellent! The blueberry lemon ricotta pancakes just melt in your mouth. They are so fluffy and delicious. The biscuits and gravy have huge chunks of sausage and have a chicken-ish flavor rather than a white pepper flavor. Different but still really good. And a small point but made me happy, they use St Brendan's Irish cream instead of Baileys which I find to be better quality. My friend had the shrimp and grits and the white poinsettias cocktail and she enjoyed everything too. As another person commented, the seats have lost a lot of cushion, but that's a small thing compared to the cleanliness and pretty decor. The staff is friendly and efficient. Food: good variety in pancakes but extremely expensive considering the ingredients. $9.00 for 4 flavored pancakes? Wow that's a massive markup. We shared the Elvis pancakes (chocolate with bananas and a peanut butter sauce). Overall the dish was very dry. Needed syrup to go along with it (syrup costs extra. $1.25 I think) maybe butter too, which also costs). Good taste but not fantastic. Also got the biscuits and sausage gravy. I think the gravy had 4 little pieces of sausage in it total. Decent but not my favorite by far. We also split a side of hashbrowns. These were good. Overall. Meh, fun concept but very overpriced and delivery only so so. People were very nice and friendly, 5 stars for that. Just can get so much more and better taste overall for less money at other places. Decided to try Staks this morning. Had the Salmon Omelette. From the first bite it was so fishy it didn't settle on my stomach. My husband took at bite and immediately said something was wrong. I then chased it with my avocado toast. Within a couple of minutes I was running to the restroom to vomit it all up. I'm not sick or anything. Spoke to the manager who gave every excuse under the sun to not allow us to switch dishes or a refund. Instead, she offered us to purchase another meal under her discount of 50%. Poor customer service and no accommodations. They don't care if you're happy which is why you pay upfront. Entire team standing by back kitchen talking and no one is assisting patrons. I like this place. It's really cute and the customer service is great. I ordered the burrito bowl this time with chicken sausage instead of chorizo. I should have said no salsa because the salsa made it soupy. Other than that it was pretty good, I'd try it again but with the salsa on the side and ask them to cook the bell peppers and onions. The latte was sooo good. My mom enjoyed her meal as well. You will have a wait so make sure you're not starving. I've never waited less than 30 minutes on the weekend. Three stars because the service was excellent. But the food? Not so much. I was surprised, because the Yelp reviews are killer. First of all, this place seems really popular with people from the surrounding neighborhood, and it was pretty crowded when we got there around 9 on a Saturday (we got the last table inside). And it's cute inside. My brother in law wasn't feeling the pancakes, so he got one of their egg dishes (The Hombre - 3 egg omelette with black beans, fresh house made salsa, Monterey Jack cheese, and chorizo sausage), which he liked - he was the happiest with his food. My husband ordered the pancake beignets. This dish would probably be fine as a shared plate (it is on the a la carte menu), but it's crazy sweet for an entree. But that's my husband for you. His eyes are bigger than his stomach when it comes to sugar, and it was sugar overload for sure. He ate three of the beignets, and my brother in law ate one, and we left the last one on the plate. I ordered the Lemon Ricotta short stack, which I thought was pretty awful. The pancakes were extremely underdone - like browned briefly on the outside and completely raw in the middle, which is not for me. And there was no lemon flavor at all in these Lemon Ricotta pancakes. The blueberry syrup tasted like blueberry pie filling from the can. It was way too sweet and there was way too much of it. And, again, I didn't taste ANY lemon. Between the doneness of the pancakes and the sugar overload, I ate about 1/3 of the dish. Definitely would not order it again. This place seems like a popular neighborhood spot, but I left very underwhelmed! read more

This place was so cute! I loved the decor! The food was delicious and their menu was a bit intimidating mainly because they have a lot to choose from and I was wanting everything all at once. Their seating and serving system is a bit confusing tho and a turn off. You order everything at the register and then they give you a number for your table and they bring it out to you. You even order your mimosas from the register. The only problem with this is if I wanted to order another mimosa (which I did) I would have to go stand back in line to order it. It took about 45 minutes to get a table for Sunday brunch, but the notifications (a phone call and a text when the table was ready) were nice. The menu was varied enough to accommodate even the pickiest eater (a two year-old) in our group. The restaurant offers fast service and generous portions. If you have a large group, you may be seated at a community table, so if you don't want to sit with other people, keep the group size to your closest 4-6 friends and specify the need for a booth. I ordered a short stack (beware: it's four pancakes), bacon, hash browns, and the Toasted S'mores latte. It was a ton of food, and I only ate about a third of it all. The Toasted S'mores latte was delicious, and was another item I could not finish. Can't wait to make my way back to Staks on a less busy day to luxuriate over an even less ambitious order. read more

Kyle now I understand why you love this place !!! It's great!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only is this one of the cutest restaurants I've been too, but their pancakes are phenomenal. No Seriously, they were just that good! My friend and I both ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes with the blueberry syrup and they were devoured in minutes. Another friend ordered the shrimp and grits and really enjoyed the dish. Now,I thought the layout of the restaurant was very modern and as Deanna said definitely decorated by a woman. We sat in one of their tiffany blue colored booths, which I think are really pretty. Now it is important to remember that as you enter, you go to the counter and place your order. You then pay and get a number. Then you get the choice of picking your seat and they bring you your food. All in all, I loved it and can't wait to go back and try more of their pancakes. Plus I also want to try the "Cook Em Yourself", which is where you sit at a table that has an open griddle that you can cook your pancakes on. Gouda grits, people! GOUDA GRITS. I had an amazing experience at Staks. The decor is adorable with lots of Tiffany blue and a welcoming environment that makes you almost forget how many people like to pack into the cozy space. I heard about crowds so my friend and I decided to meet up early. I was half asleep and half grumpy while ordering at the counter, but the staff was incredibly friendly and recommended a few things to us. Our cinnamon roll pancakes, birthday cake pancakes, Gouda grits, hash browns, and lattes arrived quickly and we devoured it all. Everything was delicious, although I didn't love the hash browns. Overall, I can't wait to visit this gem and stuff my face again. TL;DR: Order the cinnamon roll pancakes and Gouda grits. I ordered at the counter and, although the guy who waited on me was pretty emotionless, I was pumped about my spinach, sausage, and goat cheese omelet. I was even more excited about my nitro coffee. The coffee came almost immediately and the food about 10 mins later. The food delivery person was also equally expressionless. But hey, I had an AMAZING omelet and some pretty solid hash browns. The tangy goat cheese is so fresh! The sausage from Porcellino's is great. I am also a fan of shredded hash browns so it made me very happy to see a big ol plate of those crispy babies. I'm just not a fried potato chunk hash brown type. My daughter got a kid's stak with a side of fruit and milk. The portions were perfect size wise. Her pancakes were on point. Crisp edges, buttermilk taste, dense but not underdone. I loved the mix of blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries for the side of fruit. The decor is pretty darn cute. It's not my favorite - style and seating arrangement wise, but it'll do. I would just rather have happy people serving me even if I am a grouch in the morning. Good experience - went in on a Monday around 11 am and not busy at all. I've heard great things about Staks and how crazy the lines are on the weekends. Glad the weekdays are more dialed down! The service was good and food came fast! It was my first time in at Staks, so I ordered the Birthday Cake Pancakes. I'm always in the mood for good pancakes! An order has 3 fluffy pancakes with a side of syrup. Imagine a fingertip cake or cookie in pancake form... Very tasty and I was stuffed when I finished. A friend of mine ordered the Power Breakfast with hash browns, and her meal was very healthy looking. White egg whites, tomato, avocado, sausage, and hash brown. She was pleased with her meal as well. I wouldn't mind ordering that next time! Overall, I would return. I would love to try some non-pancake items! read more

You can tell this placed is owned by some females because it is nothing short of adorable ;). The tiffany blue walls and all of the attention to detail definitely paid off...I love it! The atmosphere and charm definitely adds to the overall experience! First things first, if you're going on a Sunday, be prepared for quite a wait. I'm not sure if it will always be like this, but we had about a 40 minute one. They have tables outside you can sit at so you aren't in everyones way, but it is about to get colder :(. Another thing to note is that you order at the counter and receive a number instead of being waiting on at the table. I read a couple of the reviews and the our hostess told us which table to sit at. I'm not sure if thats a new thing or not, but we got a booth in the back so I was a happy camper! Its also important to note that some of the tables are communal, which is fine, but I tend to not have a filter so thats honestly scary for whoever gets sat next to me :). Like I stated before, you don't have a waiter assigned to your actual table, just a bunch of staff members looking out for everyone. However my water was ALWAYS full which is quite the feat. Overall, the staff was super friendly and was definitely a strong positive to the overall environment! As for the food. Be prepared to NOOOMMMM. I couldn't even finish my chocolate raspberry pancakes, and my friend couldn't finish his lemon ricotta. They are super heavy and ridiculously filling. My first visit here was on a Sunday morning at 8:30 am. It was full, but not packed, however that began to change as many more people arrived before 9am, forming a line out the door with people waiting to order and others waiting for a table after ordering. If you go on a Sunday, I recommend getting there by 8:30 or earlier. When you walk in, realize that you order at the counter to the left. They also have a coffee bar and it seems that them making the specialty drinks and getting your drinks for you when you order, slows down the process of taking all orders. But, the good thing is that you have more than just a choice of black coffee and I did observe one staff are working furiously to fresh squeezed orange juice. The inside has retro-modern decor and is open and inviting. The Staff seem pleasant from a distance, but they act more as food expediters than servers, so you don't get a lot of interaction. I was intrigued by the cook-your-own-pancakes station/table, which is where I sat as a party of one. This is one long table near the kitchen that has 3 cooking surfaces along the middle of the table. They provide pancake batter and garnishing (e.g. Chocolate chips, blueberries, strawberries, etc. ) and you do the cooking. This turned out to be quite entertaining , watching kids and parents trying to flip their cooking pancakes. From my observation, this turned into a good experience for the young kids, but the parents had to wait to eat as they were doing all the cooking. Also, unless you're use to making pancakes, they're going to come out pretty ugly. Ha! I ordered the two eggs with meat and added a side of hashbrowns. The food was cooked well and they certainly don't hold back on the butter flavored oil, so be aware of that if you trying to eat a little more smartly. There are a couple other things on the menu that I would like to go back and try. But, I'll make sure to do it during nonpeak hours so I can get a seat. Also, if you like to sit and read or talk for a long time over your breakfast and coffee, it probably wouldn't be courteous to do that here while the lines are forming out the door.
