I always stop at Stan's Donuts & Coffee after doctor's appointments. It's always quick and easy. On one occasion the computer went down and the guy gave the group in line a free donut for the inconvenience. The donuts are always fresh and the variety is amazing. I love their coffee too - fresh & hot! The room is small but is on the corner with tons of windows. Although it is sun filled, the there's always tables that need bussing. They seem to have enough staff to pay attention to such things, but it seems to be like that on almost every visit. The bottom line is Stan's makes really tasty donuts. I'll be stopping in on my next doc visit. read more

5 stars for the donut! Ordered the red velvet - delicious. Cashier said his favorite was the lemon pistachio, would love to try that one as well. They have a good selection of flavors, good customer service and a cute little interior. Also ordered a lavender cappuccino. It was good but didn't stand out above other coffee places. When in Chicago, go to Stan's! I'd heard of it once or twice before but while flipping through a magazine in the condo we were staying at, an article listed the best donuts in each of America's big cities. Stan's lemon pistachio old fashioned was the windy city's winner. So the next morning the young ones were tasked with braving the frigid temps on St. Patrick's Day to bring back donuts. I think we paid $12 for 4 donuts... but we all loved what we got and it was vacation after all. Plus the treats come in a picture perfect pink bakery box. Our cashier was almost the best part! He was lightning fast with charismatic banter, easily making us laugh over and over while quickly taking care of our order. I'm not sure if it's part of the brand but if not it should be. I wish I caught his name because he really deserved a raise. It was early in the morning, he was working on a "holiday", yet putting so much energy into making the customers smile. read more

This is an excellent place! Super great location lots of windows and natural light. They have inside seating as well as outdoor seating. The restaurant was nice and clean and the staff was super friendly. I got the Nutella milkshake and a pistachio old-fashioned donut. The way it was only about three people long in the line. Super flavorful older items. Keep in mind this place has smoothies milkshakes coffee and donuts and not much else. Definitely a great place to sit down and have a treat with a friend. Stan's is so insanely convenient if you are at Northwestern for something. It's connected to some of the buildings on the ground floor. I've been going to NW a lot lately for various appointments plus my best friend is a fancy doctor at the hospital. Sometimes we'll meet at Stan's for a bite, other times I'll pop in solo for a grab & go. The first time we went in to try it out, we had some douchecanoes in front of us who were asking the workers what the rare & limited edition flavors were...ugh. Just get what you want you pretentious doctors in training! Anywayyyyyyyyyysssss... Also on this first of ours, they handed us our donuts but forgot about our drinks. We knew they had forgot when they were all chatting behind the counter without any movement. When my friend went up to inquire, they were very apologetic and also gave us coupons for a free donut. No real COVID safety precautions. Run away. I tried to make an order on their app. It said it would be done at 1:15. I got there at 1:20, and found that they had run out of two of the things I ordered (why have an app if you can't update inventory?) and so we had to have a conversation about substitutions before they could even get started on my order. Several minutes later, as more and more people arrive---eventually reaching 6 customers plus 2 staff in that little space---I finally got my order and fled. Also, they're right next to a gigantic hospital. Hopefully I didn't get covid in that place. It would suck to have my last Yelp review be calling out the place where I caught the disease that killed me. read more

Was on a visit to Chicago and told that Stan is a local must try so I stopped by to give it a shot. The staff is so friendly when I asked them to recommend their personal favorites -- the chocolate dip and original glazed. I ended up LOVING both and went back the next morning before leaving for the airport. Highly recommend the glazed, choco dip and the Nutella flavor. Somehow I don't like the pistachio glazed though. This is an iconic place and I had the best donuts of my life! Will definitely come by next time in Chicago. read more

BISCOFF BANANA POCKET- If you live in Chicago and haven't had a donut from Stan's we don't know what you're doing with your life. Hard to put into words how good this donut was. After biting into it, we understood why they call them "pockets". There's a pocket of air in the middle with the cookie butter and bananas. This creates a great ratio of filling to dough. Giving you that amazing biscoff cookie butter taste without overpowering the donut and making you sound like a puppy dog with peanut butter stuck on the roof of his mouth (Ricky Bobby). The ratio of Nutella/Banana was a little off inside the middle and adding the chocolate on top was just a little too much for the Sauced liking. It was too overpowering in every bite and the banana wasn't there enough to really balance it all out. I'm not a huge donut person as sweets aren't something I try to indulge in that often, but a friend brought me here and when in Rome, you go with the flow. They had a bounty of flavor options. I opted for the pistachio glazed and it wad heavenly! Loved the super soft donut covered in nutty pistachio glaze that wasn't too sicky sweet and let the pistachio come through. I know this place is a Chicago favorite, but I felt like their doughnuts are just meh and nothing special. A friend told me I needed to check this place out, so I bought a half dozen doughnuts - a couple cinnamon sugar, a regular glazed, a chocolate, a cronut, and a special pride doughnut. My favorite was the Le Stan (the cronut) which was covered in sugar and filled with a vanilla custard. It was a bit over-fried though and tasted a bit burned. I really didn't enjoy the pride doughnut (even though it was very cute!) since there was so much icing on it and it was sickly sweet. Overall, I'd say my biggest issue with Stan's is that it's very average doughnuts for a premium price. If you want great doughnuts you should check out the Do-rite Donuts a few minutes walk away. Loved it! I walked here from my hotel on a Thursday morning around 7:15am and it wasn't crowded at all. I knew I wanted a biscoff pocket, and I was debating trying the old fashioned donut. However, the girl working suggested that I try her favorite, the dreamsicle bar. She described it as having a nice crust/crunch on the outside and being soft on the inside. I was intrigued, so I went with it. I was NOT disappointed! It was exactly how she described!! The middle was like a regular soft glazed yeast donut, but the crust on the outside made it so much better. The biscoff pocket was good. I read some reviews prior to going and people mentioned that the filling was a bit dry. I have to agree there. I'm not an expert, but I assume it dries out a bit during baking? Maybe if they piped in the filling after baking, it might keep it more moist? Either way, its still a good donut. Even if they are $3 a pop! read more

One donut, two donuts, three donuts, and then four, I tried Stan's for the first time and...holy heck...I'm in love! I used to run a tiny bakery in college, and I admit to making a killer apple cinnamon fritter, but I'm now wishing I would have experimented more, because Stan's makes me want to be a baker all over again. It was later in the afternoon, so the donut variety was a little picked over, but everything looked amazing so we didn't care. We ordered up a half dozen for close to $20. Yep, the most expensive donuts I've ever had, but they are hearty in size, and I can tell you worth every penny. I tried the maple long john, blueberry fritter, dreamsicle bar, and chocolate pocket with nutella. My favorites were the dreamsicle bar and blueberry fritter. The dreamsicle was so orangey with cream inside, that I swear I didn't want it to end. But, after it ended I shared the crispy on the outside, soft on the inside blueberry fritter. Truly memorable. The chocolate pocket was too rich for this mama, but my kiddos devoured it. The Coffee was deliciously robust. Why not five stars? The price makes me sad, since I can only have Stan's on special occasions, and the fact that there is no Stan's North of the city ;-) read more

The latest to enter Chicago is Stan's, originally from LA, so it was guaranteed that I would be checking it out. Oh...my God. This spot is a MUST-EAT no matter where you are in the city. Where else will you find a donut POCKET of Biscoff, peanut butter, or Nutella? Seriously, these sinful sweet bites will make it difficult to contain yourself. Saying they're fantastic is an understatement. You are in for a real treat, Yelpers! You can't leave the store without a Banana Biscoff Pocket, the shining star in the glass case. It's a square glazed yeast donut filled with Biscoff (aka speculoos aka cookie butter) and diced bananas inside. It's the BEST surprise since a Bavarian Cream! Stan's Donuts, located in Westwood, CA close to the UCLA campus is one of my favorite donut places around. The shop is small, but has been a local favorite for many years. During my recent trip to Chicago, I saw a donut shop with "Stan's Donuts" on it. I did not think much of it as the logo was different. Strolling around the area near the Park Hyatt Chicago, I spotted another Stan's Donuts. Out of curiosity, I stopped in to check it out. Much to my surprise, the locations in Chicago are an offshoot of the original Westwood location. I decided to try one of my favorite donuts, the chocolate peanut butter donut. The donut was lightly and fluffy. The chocolate was sweeter than I remember, however the peanut butter is the exact same. Although the donut was passable, it just doesn't compare to the original. I don't know whether I attribute some of that to nostalgia, taste or a combination of both. read more

Mmmmm...donuts! They make me happy! I've been to 3 different Stan's locations and this one is consistently good! This location is right by Northwestern Hospital, so definitely treat yourself before or after your business at the hospital! I LOVE the maple long john, chocolate long john, old fashioned, and the glazed donut! SOOOOOO good!!!! :) I don't need any of the fancy ones for me to do the happy dance! :) That means the donuts are GOOD! They can be pricey. I think the glazed and old fashioned are a bit cheaper than the others. I gravitate towards a donut place in the burbs...but ALWAYS grab a Stan's donut when in the area! Updating my review to give them an extra star. After my first two lackluster/borderline bad experiences, I had Stan's again when someone brought them into work. I had a chocolate old fashioned doughnut, and I must say it was pretty good. However, it's still overpriced by comparison, and certainly not delicious enough to warrant the price tag. But, it was much better than the more expensive premium varieties I had previously tried here, so there's that. I don't think this would be my first choice if someone says "let's get donuts" if the choice of eatery was up to me, but at least I know there are some good options in case others want to come here. Let me start off by saying that I LOVE donuts so my review may be a bit biased from the get go. I can eat any and all donuts from freshly baked to shelved donuts sold at the local grocery store. With that said, I was like a kid at the toy store when I entered Stans except instead of toys, there were donuts. From what I heard, Stans is known for their Pistachio flavored cake donut. It was extremely delicious and I would definitely order it again...along with a maple long John (they also have maple bacon long john with a variety of nuts on them) a Boston cream and several others. The taste of their dough is just SO moist and soothing when you bite into it. The flavors are just a bonus to the donut. They also serve La Colombe coffee which I have to say is mighty tasty if you like coffee. They also have all the other types of hot drinks like espresso, lattes and other drinks. The only reason why I would not give Stans 5 stars are because it is a bit pricier than comparable donut joints (Gurnee donuts is still my favorite). Since my favorite place isn't located anywhere close to Stans locations, I'll definitely be eating from Stans time and time again! read more

The Good I give the doughnuts here at 3.5 out of 5. Long John chocolate was average, double chocolate old fashioned was also nothing special, coconut cake was lacking flavor (although the cake itself was very moist). The best of the half dozen we ordered was the pistachio lemon, sprinkles and Peanut Butter Pocket. The Bad If Dunkin Donuts can spare a large box for a half dozen of their .59 center donuts-Stans should be able to do the same for their $3 a piece doughnuts. 6 (primarily specialty) doughnuts were placed into a thin little box layered one on top of the other. Immediately after opening them the frostings has already begun to melt off onto the box because it's 90 degrees outside. The flavor that's meant to be eaten as a bite with the dough is now on the box and the $20 bucks you spend for specialty doughnuts is such a disappointment because you're just eating dough that's has some remains of frosting. The Ugly I hate ... HATE when flavors mix. Especially when you have a light and airy doughnut like the lemon pistachio getting mushed up with a chocolate long John because of how packed it is in the box and have it go EVERYWHEREa and completely ruin the taste. It's messy to eat and work around, you get it all over your fingers trying to dig the doughnuts out from the bottom layer of the box. Please just space out the doughnuts and put them in larger boxes - so that customers that pay for specialty doughnuts actually get a chance to enjoy them. read more

My daughter fell in love with the pink decor, funky yet cool chairs and loves donuts any time of day...so naturally we had to give it a try. We walked in around 730 am on a Thursday morning and ordered donuts, bagels, and coffee. Unfortunately, the donuts were nothing special. Nothing out of the ordinary, including the presentation. The "everything" bagel was toasted with a Philadelphia cream cheese container on the side. No special spreads or smears available. Again, nothing to write home about. It tasted like a bagel I'd buy at my local grocery store. I'm glad we checked it out because there's a Stan's on practically every street corner in downtown it seems. Will not be back though.
