Every time we go here we think, "man, this dish is so good!" I don't know how they keep doing it but I am constantly amazed by how much flavor they pack into everything they make. From the Italian grinder sandwich, to the tomato pie, to the tacos- everything is top notch. They also have a fabulous market - hello deliciously aged steaks and wonderful bottles of wine! I was extremely excited to try Staplehouse after reading the numerous rave reviews. I was ecstatic we were able to get dinner reservations on our anniversary. The service was top notch. Every server explained the dishes as they came out and they were super attentive. The food presentation was beautiful, but thats about all. Maybe it was what was currently on rotation, but I was thoroughly disappointed with the food. We ordered the: Chicken liver tart--Way too sweet for my taste Clams potato--meh Cabbage beef bushi--fancy stuffed cabbage Aged duck--the best dish of the night. duck was cooked perfectly med rare and super flavorful. Also had an issue with the pacing of the dishes. We were advised to order everything at once so the chefs could course it out for us. Of the 9 courses, about 4 were outstanding. The rest were just OK, with unimpressive taste profiles. On the other hand, the wine service was outstanding. Overall the service was very unobtrusive and efficient with none of the annoying interruptions found in many Atlanta restaurants. I typically don't post this detailed of a review, but I feel like a restaurant of this level and price tag deserves one. To preface, the menu at Staplehouse is a tasting menu with a fixed price of $105/head not including drinks (some reviews on yelp are outdated). Atmosphere: this might be where Staplehouse is lacking the most. The space is well designed and unsuspecting in a good way, but nothing special. The real issue is that the tables are a bit cramped, so if you are unfortunate to have a loud party next to you (we were) it is impossible to avoid hearing their whole conversation. At a 2-hour dinner this is a problem. Service: very good but I did expect to be walked through the chefs menu more than I was (done on a course by course basis but never got the full overview from the beginning) Drinks: between the two of us we tried 4 cocktails, all of which were fantastic Food: in a nutshell, I would say my expectations were met but not exceeded. Of the 10 courses, I was blown away by the sablefish, crab and dessert (could be the best dessert I've had). The menu is HEAVY vegetable which is worth keeping in mind. All in all a great dining experience, but when you are paying over $100 per person, it has to be perfect, which I wouldn't go quite that far. read more

Note: They have a consistently rotating menu. This review is based on a visit for dinner on April 1st. There's an almost paradoxical feeling at Staplehouse between feeling completely at home and the upscale intricate experience of a Michelin star restaurant. The often humble supporting actor takes center stage with their primarily vegetarian menu (on the day I went), and the execution was on point. Seriously, the creativity applied to create so many of their dishes made otherwise bland ingredients not just surprising, exciting to the eyes, and most importantly SO pleasing to the palette. Ok, their asparagus dish. Asparagus, yolk, vetch, shoyu,and begonia - but more of an asparagus three ways. A light asparagus custard as the base, with shaved stalk, and baby tips, beautiful begonias, and these delicious twig looking, but sweet foraged root (?). I think one of the best parts of dining here is discovering these foraged ingredients I would never have tried otherwise. Also, a must mention, the green garlic agnolotti with morels. Have mercy. My group (party of 4) ate through the whole menu (11 items). With the kick off of one of their excellent cocktails (I loved the Ivy League: lavender honey, lemon, bourbon) and a bottle of wine, this meal really couldn't have been any better. What a treat- such a unique dining experience! We had a table for four on the outside patio. For a 6:30 reservation in June, weather couldn't have been better- the big fans (and cooler than normal temps) kept us very comfortable. Of course, we were rather strategic about getting the reservation and patio was all we got but, it ended up working out great! In terms of attaining the reservation, we all logged in at the same time and only my husband was able to score one (out of the four of us who attempted)! So, be prepared if you're serious about getting here. Fun fact: We learned that they have 8 seats at the bar which are first come first served so, if you're feeling spontaneous (and lucky) give it a shot! The experience itself: We ordered nearly the whole menu to sample among the four of us without reading too much into the details. Our waitress (Molly, who was AMAZING) advised that we may want to double up on a few dishes but, we wanted to see what our favorites were before ordering doubles :) The kitchen sent out each dish at just the right time- we had an opportunity to enjoy the flavor yet didn't feel rushed. (Each dish was portioned to provide one bite for each of the four of us) - they are quite small but at the same time rich. Although I believe the menu is ever changing- Our favorites for the day we're the snapper and crab- and we ended up ordering doubles! The flavors were divine! (I've got photos of both). The snapper came out almost looking like sushi and the crab was mixed with scallops- yum! Of course the bread was excellent we doubled up on that, too- the olive oil whipped spread -- just yes!! The staff takes great time to explain each detail of the dish prior to serving so you really have a chance to taste the flavors! So much care is put into the preparation and presentation (and it shows)! Overall- service was 5 stars! Food was 5 stars! A friend of mine planned on going to the Masters in Augusta and wanted to see if I wanted to meet him in Atlanta to eat and chill. Being that I am always open to visiting new cities, I agreed. When researching places to eat in Atlanta, Staplehouse constantly came up, so I knew I had to try it. As mentioned by other reviewers, the reservation process was competitive and things get scooped up quickly. I managed to secure a 5:30pm reservation on a Friday, not ideal but better than nothing. When we finally got to Staplehouse, I was amazed at the beautiful space. Plenty of regular seating, open kitchen where you see the staff at work and the bar at the far end of the restaurant. We were kindly greeted by the host and she even knew I had traveled from California to pay a visit [ little things count! ]. After a brief introduction with recommendations from the waitress, we dove in and ordered the following: 1. Chicken liver tart 2. Foie gras 3. Cabbage 4. Trout 5. Aged pork The chicken liver tart was served with green strawberry, ginger and pecan. I was in the form of a pie which was interesting. It was something I'd never tasted before but in a good way. I love chicken liver and was impressed the way it was presented. Along with the tart came the foie gras. This was served with sorrel, radish and hoshigaki. It was a salad-like dish of sorts. The foie gras blended well with the other ingredients. Next came my favorite dish, the cabbage. The cabbage was served with sake bushi, rice and mussel broth. When you think of cabbage you think of a simple vegetable with limited flavors but the way Staplehouse served it changed my mind. Each piece of cabbage packed so much juicy favor and was extremely tender. I forgot I was even eating cabbage and thought i was eating some sort of braised meat. This dish was simply light and delicious. The last two dishes was the trout and the aged pork. The trout was served with kale, watercress, roe and dill. It came with the fish skin which added a different texture to the dish. The pork, conversely, was served with ramps, spring onion and hominy. The aged pork was extremely tender and melted in my mouth. Both dishes were unique takes on simple fish and meat dishes [trout and pork] but both tasted fresh and deliciously executed. From top to bottom, each and every dish at Staplehouse was thoroughly thought out and outstandingly created. You can taste the care and detail applied to each dish. Fine dining isn't necessarily my favorite. I don't get off on presentation, fancy cutlery, fancy silverware, fancy dining accessories and etc. I can eat good food with my hands so as long as the taste and smell are pleasing. That being said, the fine dining at Staplehouse is juxtaposed with a casual atmosphere. The price point along with the fastidious preparation of each dish is where the fine dining originates. However, the feng shui of Staplehouse with its rustic layout and casually dressed servers eases the tense robotic feel of a fine dining establishment. No dark dim lit areas where you can barely read the menu. No fancy hardcover menus. No candlelights. None of that. Side note: Why do fancy steakhouses think in order to enjoy a steak you need the room to be dark as hell? Turn the damn lights on so I can see my steak! /end side note So let's say you finally got your reservation for Staplehouse, You'll want to ensure you're on time. Reservations are precious there and they will yield your opportunity at the expense of your deposit if you're late. Be advised. I'd go into detail about the menu but my understanding is that it changes daily. I think the potato bread, sweet potato dish and liver tart are mainstays. Other than that I'm led to believe they rotate items based on availability. But don't worry, everything is satiable! And make sure you take your social media snapshot of each dish. Staplehouse Market is perfect! Food is incredible. Don't skip the pork tacos, and their charcuterie board is the best in Atlanta. Setting and vibe are really charming. Lots of outdoor seating in the garden and a well-covered patio for bad weather or cold. Team is very friendly and helpful. I'd give them more like 3.5 stars. I'll have to visit again to go up any stars. We came here last weekend for lunch for my hubby's bday. First thing, it absolutely stunk, literally, having to walk past the dumpsters to get to the entrance. Once at the entrance, the atmosphere is lovely with a view of the restaurant garden if you sit on the patio at the entrance. Service was excellent! They explained how the food comes out in a paced manner and explained every player in detail when it came to the table. It may have been helpful to explain with as much detail when asked about a dish before ordering, instead of saying "the menu is self-explanatory" and offering only small details. Price-wise, I expected it to be rather expensive with having to buy small plates to share; however, for the price of some of the plates, there should be more food or it should be less expensive, especially since a lot of the produce came from there own garden. I think the sharing concept is great for 2-3 people but might be excessively expensive for more people than that. We had 4 dishes, a desert, and an alcoholic drink and hot tea for a total of around $100 after tip, for LUNCH, not dinner. I was hungry about an hour later. We had four dishes: 1) the smoked carrots- awesome!! Who knew smoked carrots could taste so good. 2) the chicken liver mousse- I did not like this dish as a whole; however, the sliced peaches on top and the fresh basil tasted yummy. On a positive, my hubby enjoyed this dish. 3) a chilled beans and potato 'salad'. This was enjoyable and had a very umami flavor due to the sake bushi. 4) the beef cheek- this was both of our favorites. The cheek was so tender and flavorful. We also had a dessert for which o don't recall the name right now but it had sugar crisps, cookie, cream, and peaches. It was amazing. It's not any wonder that it takes a lot of effort to get a reservation in this restaurant. After the evening we had, they definitely earned it. We joined a the rest of our party before our scheduled reservation time at a beautiful, artistically decorated restaurant. The valet introduced himself BY NAME with a smile on his face (this is quite literally the first time I've ever seen this happen). We were sat before our reservation time and were immediately greeted by our waitress. I only wish that I remembered her name, but with so many wonderful facts about the food it was hard to remember everything. She took the time to explain each of the drinks available after we advised our likes/dislikes. She then brought out our beverages almost immediately. The food menu is meant to be shared at the table. However, our phenomenal server took the time to explain every bit of the chef's suggestions in regards to how to order, how to share and how to best enjoy the experience. You can tell that she was incredibly passionate about her job. The food was just as impressive as the courses continued to make their way out. The duck and halibut dishes were life changing and I wish that I would eat them every day. However, all the food was great so it's hard to call any one thing out. Walked in here on a Sunday afternoon at 1pm and they had no space at the bar so I had to wait an hour for the next available seat. The menu was limited and appeared to be seasonal. I went there solo and the girl at the bar suggested to have 3-4 dishes so I had 4. Everything was done nicely for the most part however I did not enjoy my beef sausage that much and I don't recommend this dish. It was a little bit salty for my liking a little bit dry and just nothing special to be honest and the guy sitting next to me thought the same. Also for one person I would think three dishes would be enough and then they also have dessert which is not on the menu. If you go here in a group go ahead and order everything just to try. I would probably come back here again to try other dishes but to say that this is the best restaurant in Atlanta is a bit far-fetched. read more

I have dined at Staplehouse twice and each time it has lived up to the hype! I was lucky the first time, stumbling upon them around 10pm (no reservation) after getting out of Dad's Garage. The second time I used a friends reservation who was going to have to cancel. Since I haven't had to go through the reservation process, I can't really speak to it, but I believe you have to make reservations at least a month or so out, and they fill up within minutes of opening new reservation blocks. If you are interested in trying this place out, I recommend doing some research on the best way to snag a reservation. The menu changes frequently depending on what is in season, but there were a few items that were on the menu both times I visited. The service was exceptional, with the waitstaff as well as the food runners knowing each detail of the dishes they were serving in order to explain as they delivered the dishes to our table. The dishes are small to medium sized, and meant to be shared across the table. They prefer you select all your dishes at once, as they plan the order in which you should have each of the selections. The timing in which they bring the food is also spot on, allowing you ample time to enjoy each dish before they bring the next. Here are the items I have tried here (but again, they might not be on the menu when you dine here) October 1st, 2016: -Grandma Lillian's potato bread - meh, it was ok, there wasn't anything special about this to me -Chicken liver tart, scuppernongs, dill, corn nuts -Shishito peppers, furikake - these were amazing! unfortunately they were not on the menu the second time around -Blue crab, sunflower, basil, lime, pea shoots - LOVED. My favorite by far! -Arugula, pistachio, sake bushi, green tomato - nice, fresh salad, on the smaller portion side -Scallops, benne, bok choy, fermented shrimp broth, marigold -White chocolate, peanut miso, olive oil - this was just ok (I enjoyed the dessert below better) November 12th, 2016: -Beef, beets, matsutake, fish sauce, anise hyssop -Blue crab, sunflower, lovage, lime, radish - AMAZING. -Sunchokes, fennel, aji dulce, nasturtium -Chestnut tortellini, apple, celery, pea shoots - great, a little rich but portion just right -Persimmon, almond, milk, white chocolate - love this dessert, persimmons were interesting I HIGHLY recommend you start planning your trip to Staplehouse, whether for a special occasion or just to celebrate another amazing restaurant here in Atlanta! read more

Admittedly, the only reason I wanted to try this place was the same reason as everyone else: Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurant for 2016. The hype was definitely there since our friends booked reservations nearly a month in advanced. FYI, when making reservations, they require a $20/person fee which will be applied to your check. My fiance, friends and I came here for a late lunch and were able to share everything on their menu which is really do-able for a group of 4 without feeling too stuffed. Honestly, I teeter between 3 and 4 stars because the food was great, but maybe the hype raised my expectations. I rounded up for service, because the staff was pretty awesome. Keep in mind that the menu changes, so I won't go into detail about everything - you can look at my pictures. Just about everything was plated beautifully. The only exception is probably the salad which looked really odd because the salad covered half the side of a plate. We were truly wow'd by their beef tartare and personally, I enjoyed their chicken liver tart, but everything else wasn't too memorable. Overall, I'm glad I got to try Staplehouse. It's a beautiful restaurant and tends to get a little loud in the interior dining room near the kitchen and bar. Staplehouse is one of my top 3 dining experiences. Everything from start to finish was absolutely perfect. We booked our reservation for the patio (its easier to get) and were so happy we did. For those nervous about patio dining with in climate weather... they will immediately seat you indoors in their upstairs dining if there is an issue. Our dinner was on a beautiful evening and drinking wine by the lit up garden was magical. To the food- Everything is designed to be shared family style. We had the crab and marigold dish, the wheat+tomatoes+basil, chicken liver tart+ potato bread + trout + beef cheeks. This was enough food for us, however, next time we would go with another couple and order the entire menu! The dishes were incredible and brought out flavors that I never thought would go together. Crab and marigold?? Who knew. The tomatoes dish was actually my favorite. I didn't know tomatoes could taste like that. Make sure you leave room for dessert. They only offer one a night. Voted America's Best New Restaurant in 2016 by Bon Appetite, Staplehouse was definitely on my radar. We were able to secure reservations for the patio which overlooked the beautiful garden and smokehouse. Definitely make sure to go inside to see the bustling open kitchen. All of the dishes were artfully prepared and each had its own unique story. Standouts included the roasted mushrooms with local cheese, the shisito peppers with japanese seasonings and the sausage. Definitely recommend getting a bunch of dishes for sharing (like the veggie dishes) since those can be easily split. Other dishes like the roasted mushroom and the sausage are more like entrees and are so good you don't really want to share! read more

I came here with my sister to celebrate my last meal in Atlanta this summer. What an incredibly amazing fine dining experience at such a reasonable price! All the ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal, which you can tell by its freshness. I tried most of the dishes on the menu and was very impressed by the aesthetic plating design and burst of flavor in each dish. There are definitely some unique pairings of ingredients that I would have never thought would go well together (but did) such as cantaloupe, pepperoni and buttermilk. I loved how the servers would explain to you where each ingredient is sourced (which farm and its distance from the restaurant) and how the ingredients were farmed and raised, and how the dish was cooked at the Staplehouse kitchen. They do this as they serve the dish, which made me appreciate the farming and culinary expertise put into each dish more and surprisingly made everything taste better. Knowing what you are being served definitely enhances your dining experience! With its rustic decor and wooden theme, it is definitely a charming little place for a small, intimate gathering. I loved this place and would come back to Atlanta just to dine here again :) read more

On the second Friday of the month Staplehouse releases reservations for the following month. I learned last night that it sells out in 5 minutes. I recommend you participate. Staplehouse is the best restaurant in Atlanta by a long way. We visited last night and it was all we hoped that it would be. It is crowded and loud at times but charming and warm. The menu changes daily and they make everything there. They age, they pickle, they make magic. The menu has maybe 10-12 items on it and they recommend you order 5 for a party of 2. They arrive family style so you share and the kitchen sequences them for you so they are delivered at a comfortable and unhurried pace. The staff is friendly and helpful and they are knowledgeable so ask a lot of questions. We were charmed and will be back soon. If I could offer a single criticism it would be that I would prefer butter to whipped olive oil on those delightful warm rolls. Incidentally for those interested, the bar has about 10 seats total and it is first come first served. I understand they open at 5:30 and a line forms well before opening. There is no good way to sneak an unplanned visit. The better option might be to arrive late - last service - and come alone to snag a seat. read more

I've wanted to go to Staplehouse for over a year. I finally made my reservations and went with some foodie friends that I knew would appreciate this dining experience. I'm absolutely hooked! The restaurant is quaint and inviting. The staff is super friendly and you can tell everyone really loves their job! The food is beyond phenomenal. Because the menu is always changing, I don't know what my favorite dish is or will be...which is something I love about Staplehouse. I also love that they give back to the community by giving part of the meal proceeds to The Giving Kitchen. I may be a little obsessed with Staplehouse...but I don't think that's a bad thing. read more

It's surprising that this restaurant was voted BEST in the entire country..clearly there was some miscommunication; this win is unfair. Though I have to give credit to the creativity and originality of their dishes-hence the two stars-the flavor in each dish was almost nonexistent. If and when there was some sort taste, it was wholly unappetizing. Each course was a hit-or-miss. Sadly, there were many more 'misses' rather than the formal. Arriving on a concave, porcelain plate, the snapper resting upon a bed of textured Carolina rice was obviously fresh: a light, floral taste accompanied by a nice, soft flesh. The sauce encircling the main had depth and emphasized the delicate taste of the fish. This dish was a clear 'hit'. The chicken liver tart however was one ten most unappetizing, in-tasteful dish I have ever tried. Having been to all the best restaurants in Atlanta, I have had my fair share of offal-based dishes. Not only did it have a pungent, lingering taste, but the severity of the gamey flavor was beyond compare. I decided to highlight these two dishes because I think that essentially, these two extremes sum up Staplehouse as a whole: overrated and unbalanced. If you like elevated southern inspired food I highly recommend it. Every dish was complex yet reminded me of something simple and southern. A huge plus is that the profits from the restaurant go to restaurant employees in crisis. If you have ever worked in he restaurant industry you know too many have no health insurance or industry support network. Their charity is The Giving Kitchen. It was awesome to see every face in this article at the restaurant doing their thing. The 3 owners were there. We were seated and served by Jen who also runs the charity and whose husbands cancer and death at age 36 inspired the restaurant and the charity it finds. Too many top tier restaurants are head and run by people you never see when you dine there. Knowing the story and seeing the people who made this restaurant happen made the food taste even better. If you are in Atlanta area I recommend getting a reservation. You have to get one early they book up in a matter of hours but they do take walk ins and the bar is full service. They no longer do a tasting menu but do small plates. We could have ordered the entire menu but showed some restraint! Here are a few pics of what we ate. Staplehouse is a cool, sophisticated, and modern place that doesn't disappoint. Inside decor: I really like the exposed brick, no shade light fixtures, and open kitchen right next to the door. The bathrooms were also very clean, unique, and had awesome smelling candles going. The bar seemed a little small but the space doesn't really allow for a larger one. Food: this is why I went four stars ultimately. The portions were quite disappointing for the price. We ordered the entire menu between four people, were still hungry after the meal, and paid about 500 total with cocktails and wine. I could understand the tapas-style concept they were going for, but if that's the case I'd expect 8-12 a dish, not 18-25. You could easily go wild at any other new American place in town and spend half as much (especially with a $40 reservation fee). That being said, the food was excellent and we enjoyed all that we had. My favorites were the duck and the liver pate. Cocktail selection was also a little limited but the wine selection was quite nice. I'm a fan, I just probably won't go back. read more

This is a restaurant you should definitely try at least once. It is hard to get reservations though...we luckily were able to transfer from a friend. While the experience was good, I gave it a 3 because it was on the overhyped and overpriced side. With reservations you need to make a deposit. The food and experience was enjoyable but there are many other restaurants easier to get into. Now on to the food. It was creative and appealing to both the eyes and taste buds. They made combinations of food you normally wouldn't think of. The best is to go with 4 people so you can order the whole menu and get a taste of everything. My favorite of the night was beef tartare and aged spinalis. I do wish they had more protein dishes though. This is definitely not the place to go if you are on a high protein, low carb diet...come on a cheat day. Unfortunately there were a few dishes that were oversalted and we didn't really want to take anymore bites. So overall, did I enjoy my experience here? I came here because Staplehouse was a James Beard semifinalist for the 2016 Best New Restaurant. My curiosity lured me here. What can be that good? Let me start by saying the food size is small. But for some reason, Staplehouse insists that everything is best for sharing. I agree and disagree. I agree because they don't serve appetizers and entrees. Everything on the menu can be an appetizer. That's why sharing is better. Each item on the menu is crafted meticulously and presented on a plate like art. Everything on the menu was unique and satisfying to the palette. If you come here hungry, sharing might not me a good idea. It took me and three of my friends to have all 10 of 11 items on the menu to be close to full. The price was reasonable. Four people split a $230 bill without alcohol. If you come there with 4-6 people, just order everything on the menu. It's the only way you can experience the variety and craftsmanship of each menu item and be full. See my photos for what I ate. I had no expectations when I met my girlfriends for dinner at this lovely place on Edgewood. I was a little concerned that I had to enter through the back porch down the driveway but once I entered, I had a good feeling. I found my gals sitting around the bar on the corner, with drinks and apps started. I settled in, got my drink and started digging into the small plates. The menu changes daily but we had the puffs, charred turnips and beets, chicken liver tart, baby cabbage with sun choke & bacon and baby carrots with aged beef fat. There were 5 of us and it was plenty for all to share. Every morsel was amazing - seriously, the food was that good - every dish. The only exception was the dessert Caramelized white chocolate, almond buttermilk - it was a let down, very bland but with all the great flavors going on in the meal, it didn't stand a chance. The atmosphere & decor present that cool uptown vibe. The servers and fellow patrons were super friendly too. I wish it was closer so it could be my favorite neighborhood spot. The food was so amazing that we were all surprised to walk out with at least 2 (3?) drinks down, all that food and the bill came out to less than $50 each! read more

Great service, food and drink. Came from out of town and had to do some work for an hour and eat lunch and Staplehouse was suggested. I'm glad I came here! I got the alkaline noodles with brisket and it was so delicious. It is on the spicier side but I wasn't complaining. The staff was super polite and helpful in explaining the menu and getting me the wifi information. I got a Negroni to start the weekend and it was delicious. There wasn't any ice in the drink which I prefer but it was still great! read more

Wow. This was one of the best meals I've ever had...we ate there over a week ago, and I'm still thinking about it! The atmosphere is quite nice--very new age American/refined gastro pub modern, and the waitstaff is efficient and friendly! I'm impressed that they were able to remember all the ingredients in each dish, of which there were at least 10! But of course, the food was the most amazing part! Each dish was styled to perfection and contained the most creative, delicious assortment of unique ingredients! It was truly a feast for the eyes, the stomach, and the soul!! This is not a quick meal, nor by any means a cheap one, but for a very special occasion with loved ones, Staplehouse is the best place for the job! What an experience! read more

This was the best meal I've had in Atlanta. The food is incredible. The presentation is creative and aesthetically pleasing. The ingredients are local and seasonal (menu changes constantly). The flavors were bold and exquisite. The service was good. You would think a restaurant that serves this type of "foodie food" would be uppity, but the atmosphere is very casual with concrete floors, exposed ceilings and brick walls. The staff were friendly and happy to help you pick out which dishes to order. The price was in the range of other nice meals I've had in Atlanta. Chicken Liver Tart - This was my favorite item we ordered. The flavor was so good, and it was topped with corn nuts, fennel 3 ways, and dehydrated crispy shallots. Delicious! Grilled cabbage - This dish was my least favorite (but still good). It was topped with shaved fish and a fermented shrimp sauce. It was like an umami bomb! It was a little rich for my taste, and the cabbage fell apart when I tried to eat it so it made it difficult to mix all of the flavors together. Carrots - The carrots with aged beet fat sauce (was almost like a sour cream) was delicious. It had sprouted sunflower seeds which added a nice crunch and shaved radishes. Really liked this! Steelhead Trout - This dish was very good. It was more hearty, topped with roe, radishes, collards, and a foamy sauce. The fish skin was crisp and salty - kind of like pork rinds. Dessert - There was only one dessert option, but we really liked it. Made with oranges who had been soaked so the rind was soft and edible. The sourness of the rind paired nicely with the sweetness of the fruit. It also had toasted milk, hazelnut, and vanilla ice cream. Delicious! I also had a cup of Counter Culture coffee which was very good. This place was larger than I expected, but had a cozy, intimate feel. The patio seating is communal, and is enclosed so it's warm even in the winter. Valet parking. They have 8 walk-in seats at the bar each evening, but you have to get there very early to get one. Otherwise they release reservations monthly and you have to snag them as soon as they open up! One of my new favorite restaurants in Atlanta. This is the place to go for a special occasion or a very nice meal. read more

It's extremely difficult to walk in and get a seat at Staplehouse. They release reservations the second Friday a month in advance and it typically fills up within minutes. I made mine in early February for March and within 3 minutes March was full. My reservation was on the patio and for the 18th; not the date I wanted but it's what I got. I called later the next week and asked about the Saturday prior or after; naturally it was full. But, I give SH all the credit in the world because Cara called me a week out just to tell me they were still looking. Plus, when we arrive Cara made a legitimate effort to get us indoors. It didn't matter because the patio was great. But, that's what I call amazing customer service. Thank you, Cara! So, they'd get at least 3 stars for me just from that alone. I went for my girlfriend's and mine anniversary. We initially ordered two dishes but the waitress (Selina) informed us that it wouldn't be nearly enough and they suggest three to five per couple. She wasn't kidding. The portions were not large but, surprisingly, they were just the right amount of filling. You order all your dishes at once and they bring them out to you as you finish your current plate. The preparation and presentation of the dishes was fantastic. They looked great and tasted even better. When they bring the dishes to your table they go into detail about what you're about to eat and where it came from. I was happy to hear that a vast majority of the food and ingredients were locally grown or purchased. We ordered the Bass (1), Beets (2), Pepperoni (3), Potato Bread (4) and Rutabaga/Carrots (5). Each dish was enough for my gf and I to split and after all five plates were finished, we were both pleasantly full. Their drink selection was fairly typical, nothing to rave about but it did the job. I also loved their music selection. I heard mostly old school hip-hop playing over the speakers (not too loud): Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, Run-DMC and Lupe Fiasco to name a few. To top it all off, they gave us a small personalized book because it was our anniversary. I'm sure they do that for a lot of occasions but it's thoughtful. I can't recommend this place enough. If you're lucky enough to pop in and get a table, good for you. But, I would highly recommend going online to try to make a reservation or calling to get put on their wait list. We went here over the weekend to celebrate the holidays and I was very impressed. I would highly recommend doing the tasting menu as it gives you the most options and is an efficient way to sample more of the dishes. That being said, this is perhaps the one restaurant that I was able to eat a multi-course meal within about an hour and a half. Usually, the goal of doing the tasting menu is so you can spend a few hours in good company while you enjoy multiple dishes without the stress of choosing what you eat. I also found myself wishing that the portion sizes were bigger, or that there were more of them because I was still a little hungry at the end. I suppose this is a roundabout compliment because ultimately I wanted to consume more food (because it was tasty) and stay there longer (because the environment was nice) but didn't do either of those things. I will still go back but perhaps try ordering a la carte items so I can control the timing and quantity of the dishes. The restaurant reminds me of a loft apartment with all the exposed brick and Edison-Style lighting and makes for a very relaxing environment. However, I didn't see that many younger people there. Granted, we did go around 7 which I suppose is early (?) for dinner nowadays... Regardless, the crowd did seem to be more reserved than I expected. I'll post pictures of our experience but I'll hold off on suggesting food items because their menu apparently gets updated/changed a lot so it's possible it will be completely different should you decided to try. I was lucky enough to go here for a Creature Comforts pairing dinner and it was so amazing. I loved everything about the dinner. It was so well organized, the beers were amazing and the food was perfect. We arrived and had cocktails or a beer on the patio with the other guests while they served canapes . It was a nice evening and the patio is very nice. They also had a fundraiser going on with t shirts that were cute! Once we were seated, we were in small groups with a Creature Comfort beer expert at each table. It was great to have them there to explain each beer and they were perfectly paired! Everything was delicious! 1st course: King crab, butter, meyer lemon and parsnip with emergence beer. 2nd course: Clams, black beans, onion, broth with dayspring beer. 3rd course: Aged squab, cabbage with southerly love beer. 4th course: Smoked ribeye, oyster mushroom paste, fermented carrots, shiitake vinegar with see the stars beer. 5th course: Pistachio financier, buttermilk, dill meringue with paradiso beer. I loved the entire evening and cannot recommend going here for a theme dinner enough. Put it on your bucket list for restaurants!! It is worth the premium price! It is on Edgewood downtown and there is some parking but just catch a ride and enjoy the pairings! read more

I've been waiting for Staplehouse to open for awhile now. So happy to report that the food and service were both wonderful on our 1st visit. Staplehouse is Atlanta's 1st non-profit restaurant benefiting The Giving Kitchen. We dined in the backyard four our late dinner since the dining room is for tasting menu only. I love the patio seating - very cozy & charming. Every dish is carefully sourced & crafted, which I appreciate so much. My only complaint is that maybe 2 of the items we ordered were a bit too salty for me. I believe the menu changes frequently so I won't go into details of what we ordered. However, I hope the funion appetizer stays on the menu. Looking forward to trying out Staplehouse's tasting menu next time. Street parking only. Tasting menu in the main dining room (reservations required); a la carte menu for patio & bar seating (1st come 1st serve). As we drive away from our dinner at Staplehouse, I can't help but feel extremely torn about my experience. I'll start with the good... 1. The service was absolutely, positively impeccable. From the ultra polite host staff to the super attentive and knowledgeable waiter, the dining experience itself was the best I've had in Atlanta. Bravo. 2. Cocktails are delicious and creative and made by a true craftsman. 3. A 10 course tasting menu for $105 really isn't all that bad in terms of value. I would not call it overpriced. 4. The menu had highlights: -Eggplant, garlic, pole beans -Crab and zucchini -Okra and egg yolk -Both desserts Now, the bad.... 1. Okay, if your whole concept revolves around seasonal food, please invest in the best ingredients you can buy. I would have happily paid more for a tomato that didn't taste like it came from Publix. 2. Some of the items was dramatically inconsistent. As an example, my boyfriend and I tried one another's beef side by side and they tasted like two different meals. Mine was far more sour ( almost as though they over reduced the sauce) and his was great. 3. Some dishes was sorely underseasoned. I'm very accustomed to high-end foods, and while I can certainly appreciate nuance in the ingredients on their own, some of the foods needed just a little bit of fine salt. The tomato comes to mind most notably here. 4. A couple of the dishes were straight-up bad. Not subjectively bad, objectively bad. I think maybe a little too cerebral. Overall, I wish I could give this 3.5 stars, but I can't. I also won't give 4 stars to a restaurant I will likely not return to. So, 3 stars it is. I ate at the Staplehouse and I can't get over how overrated this restaurant is. We did a multi-course meal and it was uninteresting, not particularly good and one course was utterly un-eatable. There was no attempt to rectify the issue. The expensive wine pairing was all white wines and definitely did not give the value for the cost. Lastly, the service was unexpectedly pretentious. Walking in, the vibe is fun and kinda upscale casual but the quickly disappears. Definitely not top class service. There are many other better choices read more

A true fine dining experience with a wonderful tasting menu. The reservations can be hard to come by but if you're lucky enough to have dinner there than be prepared to be blown away. A true foodie experience worth whatever price they want. I will be back! read more
