I've been going to Star Crab for about a year now so I finally decided to put out my review on the restaurant. Overall the experience has been good, but I have to take down one star because of the decline in food quality and service. Back in 2016 when I was first introduced to the restaurant the food was fresh and tasted fantastic. However, recently I noticed a decline in quality. I'm not sure if it's because the owner decided to switch suppliers, which often does happen. I would advise that they switch back to the original ones because the chicken wings and okra don't taste as good and those paired so well with the rest of the food in my little bag of goodies, in my opinion. I think I got a bad corn once as well, and I do like my corn. Quality of service. Service was always a hit or miss on the days that I went. It would either be piss poor where I'd have a server with a terrible attitude and attention span leaving me to basically flag down a manager or one of the girls in the front because my server would neglect my table or I would have a server that was super attentive, friendly, and could do no wrong. As a regular, I noticed a lot of changes in the staff members as well. Every time I go to the restaurant now, I don't recognize any of the workers except for the little one in the front with the glasses and the other one with the scar on her face like I did today (Sunday the 21st). These two are usually the ones that help me out the most when I'm at the restaurant. Always happy to tip more on the days these two are working because I can always rely on them for great service regardless of who I have as my server. All in all, I do have a pleasant experience at Star Crab. I know that it seems like I have a lot to complain about, but these are the biggest changes that I've noticed since my first visit back in 2016. I will continue to go to this establishment for my Creole cravings. I look forward to the improvements to come. read more

I tried both the snow and king crab and they were both really great and fresh tasting. The house sauce was very good and flavorful but the flavor unfortunately did not soak into the potatoes I added, not a meal breaker though. The corn I added did come out great and was not over steamed. This is a no frills restaurant, so you will have plastic utensils and no plates just the paper they put down on the table but this helps them keep the cost of food down which is great for the customer. read more

You will have to wait! The service is horrid. The food...its good though! I'm torn! I had the crab legs and shrimp. The flavor was exceptional....waiting over an hour for food...i would have sucked on empty crab shells at this point. If you go here, prepare to have bad service and good food. i went in today with my boyfriend and sister and we had a great time! The waiter was nice and the food was really good! We had fries,oysters,mussels, and shrimp! All really good. Only downside we ordered the crazy and the 911 both weren't very spicy but the owner bought us some extra hot sauce from the kitchen and it was just what we needed! read more

Typical run of the mill crab hut type of place, nothing spectacular, yet nothing negative of note. I will say though that I enjoyed the flavor of my appetizer(chicken strips), more than my main course, which was a pound of crab legs and a pound of shrimp, sided by garlic bread, corn, and sausage with garlic butter mild sauce, but they use farrr too much garlic in their sauce. I consider myself an avid crab eater, this place is about average considering the price. Would I recommend it? Nah. Would I steer people clear from it? Nah. Oh yeah, service, pretty on par with its food, average. I will say the decor was pretty neat, tip if you go.. Bring a big sharpie or marker! read more

There is definitely room for improvement, but it did satisfy my shrimp craving. The cajun fries can use more cajun seasoning. The butter garlic/full house contains way to much garlic the taste is sometimes overwhelming next time i'm going with the cajun flavor or the lemon pepper. The shrimp was good, juicy and big cant complain there. Our waiter was a little slow but I think he might have been new. Overall I would come back. No wait like the boiling crab and closer to home. read more

I love this place and I am not even a fan of seafood! I've gone two times already and both times the food was great. They bring it out to you in a very timely manner and it always taste fresh and thoroughly cooked. Plus they give you a nice amount of food for about 30 bucks between two people, you will definitely leave satisfied. This place is a great little gem in socal. Hard to find crawfish much less good crawfish. I am comparing to Texas of course, a bit more expensive although yummy none the less. Will be back. Although think it is very important for the wait staff to teach the customers how to eat crawdaddies, I think we were the only table that knew, we saw people biting the heads off, squeezing the heads, or just plain eating with shells on. This place is SOOooooOoooo disgusting!!! If all you're looking for is to eat a bag of grease, then this place is for you. I ordered 2lbs of shrimp and 1lb of clams and I seriously want a refund. I felt like throwing up because of the amount of grease. My mom had to actually wash everything off and re-season it herself!!!! I would NEVER eat here again even if they fead me for free. Never going here again. Boiling crab is much better and so is Kickin Crab' and its cheaper. After eating here my boyfriend and I felt sick in our stomachs for some reason. As soon as we get there we get asked if we want booth or table. My boyfriend and I always sit in booths because I have a back problem so I like to sit up against the wall. They told us 15 minutes and we actually waited 25 minutes. I use to be a host so I know from experience you should always tell your guests maybe 5 minutes longer than the actual wait time. Before us, there were 2 other couples, then 2 booths and a table opened up. I saw the roster and both couples preferred either a table or a booth. They sat both of them in the booths then ask us if it's okay for us to sit in the table or if we would like to wait a little longer for a booth to open (should've told us that from the beginning, we would've waited or I wouldn't see the reason they ask booth or table). They ended up seating us at a table because I was over it already, then the manager (seemed like it was) sarcastically started clapping and saying "it's the same price!" And happy new year. After I was done eating I washed my hands. The bathrooms looked so old and not very well maintained and the sink water was dirty. Instead of the water being clear it was a grayish color. It sort of grossed me out because I was washing my hands with it. The only good thing was the Cajun fries, they were pretty good tasting but only came in a small container for $4.10. At BC and KC you get a basket of Cajun fries for $3.25. Also you can only get a full pound they don't do halfs, which is very inconvenient because i don't really eat much so a pound is a lot. Funny because my mom says when she makes shrimp at home she gets a pound for the whole family and I'm suppose to eat a whole pound of shrimp by myself hahahahah. I don't see why I can't just get a half. Also they add a lot of lemon inside the bag. The bag is filled with .95 of shrimp then .5 of lemon. The sauce is very spicy, as well, I got medium and it tasted like hot. Would not recommend it to anyone , if you can make the drive to Boiling Crab in the OC instead. The workers here rather just get people in an out of the restaurant instead of carefully assisting every table and guest. read more

I had an awful experience yesterday. I visited this establishment with my family, my mom came down to visit and I wanted to take her out for her birthday. Our waitress took our temperatures at the entrance of the outside seating area, we were seated and that was great. Took a few minutes for them to come back and get our orders for the drinks, that was fine. When it came time to order our food, the waitress went around the table and took everyone's order, when it came to mine I ended up ordering the family combo(Blue Star). I ask her to not give me blue crab, green clams and no crawfish, I watched her cross out all that I didn't want in the bag. I wanted to substitute all that for snow crab and a pound of shrimp. I didn't appreciate that they brought my grandmothers food way before anyone else's food was ready. It took another 30 mins for the remaining plates to come out. When our bag came out it was full of crawfish and green clams and one cluster of snow crab legs. One top of that we also order two orders of garlic bread and she only brought out one. When I asked her about it she persisted to say that I wanted free food and I wanted free bread. She portrayed us like we didn't have any money or we weren't financially capable of paying for the food. She also asked us if we ordered extra pounds of food that I never asked for, it was just bad. I was kind of irritated with her tone, so I asked for her manager. When they came out, they also asked if we order certain items, the staff just seemed confused and need to get it together. I definitively will NOT be coming back to this location. The hostess obviously has NO IDEA what she is doing. I was advised to be seated then told they made a mistake a someone was before my party. The hostess apologized and advised me to wait for the booth that was almost available to only sit another party in the booth!! I ask her why someone else was being seated and once again she said a party was before mine. My party was for two and 3 different parties were seated before mine and arrived after mine. Yum! Yum! Yum! If you're craving Boiling Crab, but just don't want the 3 hour wait, this is the place to go. Same prices, less of a drive (depends where you're coming from) and acceptable service. Definitely tastes the same and the Cajun fries are bomb! Can't wait to come back! read more

This place is a hidden jewel in riverside. Just got done eating here. I came for a last minute date with my husband. We were seated quickly. Nikki was a sweet and informative server. And the food! Amazing! We ordered shrimp and green mussels with corn and sausage as our sides. I don't have a single complaint. If you haven't tried it yet, definitely give it a try. Great food and service is wonderful. Music: The last thing I want to hear is pounding rap while I'm eating. That alone will have me reconsider if/when I come back. Words in the rap songs playing were not appropriate for a place where people bring their children. Writing on walls was okay when they first opened however; it's a bit much now and has drifted off towards the bathrooms. I Do not recommend going to this location. First off we ordered "live crawfish" which is an additional seasonal charge. When our food was brought out we had a mix of live and frozen crawfish. This is not the first time they have done that. When bringing it to their attention they brought out a live crawfish to show us. We understand that there are live crawfish in the back, but do not mix our food we are paying additional for live crawfish and expect us not to notice. Secondly the female server whom was not our server was quite rude. I asked her for a to go bag as I stood at the register. Let me add in that the bags are hanging at the register right behind her. She then says can you give me a minute. I said Okay no problem. She continues to print out her receipts and I continue to stand at the register she then repeats can you give me about 3 minutes I said ok no problem. She then walks to the back of the store to another register & I'm literally thinking was is that hard to turn around and just hand me a bag ? I reached over to grab it myself that's how close it was to the register. Anyway we will not be returning to this location. read more

Found this place a few weeks ago by accident as we intended to eat at Koreana Grill besides it but decided to try Star Crabs instead. It was awesome back then so we invited more family members to share the awesome experience. Called in ahead to reserve a long table for our party of 12 but called some more family so we grew to 15 people. Ordered fresh oysters as appetizers, 2 sets Snow Star with Garlic Butter and another with Lemon Pepper at $70 a piece, 2 orders of extra shrimps and crabs which was more than enough to feed our big party. Added 3 pitchers of beer@ $9/pitcher at happy hour to enhance the experience. The place was about 80% full but service was quick and our server took care of us just fine. This is truly a gem of a find here in Riverside. read more

I've been to both Cajun places on Magnolia and this place wins for taste of food. The sauce of the full house is much better here. I will return. My brother and I have been sick since eating here. The worst food poisoning I ever had. I think the cRawfish was bad. I ordered 2 lbs, but ate about 1/2 a pound because it didn't taste right. This is the place where my boyfriend grew up eating with his family. Enough said. I was so excited to come here! My first time at this type of crab restaurant! I immediately got into the spirit after we all got our bibs!! Its messy and fun to eat! I worked at a southern cajun restaurant for a year so the amazing flavor was nostalgia for me! I'm barely crossing into the seafood world and the spicy cajun flavor helped me along! The cod and fries in the appetizers were divine and the cajun clams were great! Second times I ordered to go from here and both times I ordered fresh crawfish and ended up with dead dry crawfish. On top of it I adamantly ask the girl who took the order if they were fresh live crawfish for the day, she told me they had new shipment of live crawfish that day that I ordered. I called and had to returned for new ones, such a waste of time! why would they even served dead crawfish if they have fresh ones?! They just lost potential faithful customers. read more

People who have complaints about this place will never be satisfied when you buy shrimp or any sea food from any grocery store it's frozen most of the time so I don't see what the big deal is this literally the best pace in riverside my husband is obsessed with this place we come at least once a week and the servers are very helpful and attentive no matter how packed it is. I used to go to The Boiling Crab off MacArthur but hated the drive and the wait. I saw this place after a bit of Googling and decided to give it a try. The food here is just as good if not better. In fact this place gives you more fries with your order and passes out ranch with them. 5 out 5 for good service, clean place, and bomb food. My only criticism would be parking is limited. read more
