We ended up leasing a 2018 Mazda CX-5 GT for 3 years. After negotiating and talking to 3 different Mazda dealers we decided to come to Star Mazda even though it was out of our way but I'm glad because it paid off. Searching for my son's first car in early December 2016 and came upon a 2010 Honda Civic with low miles at Star Mazda. My first call to the dealership was with Kyle Groom. I could tell he was a "no nonsense" kind of salesman on the phone. Very friendly and very helpful in regards to information on the car. Fast forward to late December, I call again to Kyle Groom. He informs me that he can drop the price of the car (since it was the end of the year!) and agrees to let us test drive the car and have the car checked out by a local mechanic. We show up on December 31st, test drive and check up of car is fine. Kyle Groom IS the BEST of the BEST when out there looking for a car. His follow through, his demeanor, and his way with people are TOP NOTCH! We purchased the car and were on our way home when we had an issue with the windshield wiper. Half of the wiper disconnected and flew off while in use on this rainy day. I immediately called Star Mazda and Kyle Groom and they took care of reimbursing us for the cost of a new wiper blade. Now THAT's what I call CUSTOMER SERVICE! When I went back to Star Mazda to pick up the reimbursement check, Kyle also found the floor mats for our Civic and gave them to us. I didn't realize how good John Hine Mazda of San Diego was until coming to Star Mazda (recently moved to LA). I had a 7:30 reservation for an oil change for my 2014 CX-5. I arrived at about 7:33 and couldn't see how to enter the dealership. After circling the block, a front gate had opened, and I was the third car in. I should've known I was in for a questionable experience when the service department could not be open on time for their first appointments. A nice man - Francisco? - greeted me and found my reservation. When presented with the initial estimate of work, I asked if they had a customer loyalty program, which John Hine did. When he didn't understand the question and could only mention they sometimes give coupons, I shouldn't known again I was in for a questionable experience. I noticed he estimated the process would take until 9 a.m., which seemed long for an oil change with no cars in front of me (I assume they can handle more than two cars at once, I was the the 3rd). Francisco assured me it should not take that long and that the car would be done around 8:45. Around 8:50, Francisco came to me to ask if I wanted to replace an engine filter and an A/C filter. I elected for the engine filter. By 9:10, I was antsy. I had to get to west LA by 11:30 and was hoping to take public transportation, and by now I thought I would be back home and walking to the bus. At 9:15, I got Francisco's attention, and he told me they were just wrapping up. I told him that if they had not started washing the car, to not wash it; I needed to leave. As he was showing me the final bill, I asked if it normally takes this long and why it took longer than he said it would. He explained that his time quote was only for the service, that the wash takes an extra few minutes. Of course, this explanation was bullshit, and his body language conveyed to me he had no idea why it took so long. No reasonable explanation was ever given for why the oil change took not only longer than the informal 8:45 estimate I was given but the formal 9:00 a.m. that was provided on the original work estimate. Francisco disappeared and told me the car would be right back; 5 minutes later, he arrived with it. I have no idea what happened - was the car being washed? If so, why was he gone the whole time and not helping someone else? If he was washing the car, was he helping finish the washing? Or did he start washing the car then? Finally, I paid and received my car, at about 9:30 a.m. How is it possible that an oil change takes 2 hours? I also noticed a man with a Miata who arrived at the same time as me was still there when I left. I do not know what his car needed, but I do not think it was major service because he also stayed and looked similarly ready to leave around the time I finally escaped. The redeeming part of the visit is that I took three issues of the Mazda magazine, which I love. And all the staff were polite, the experience was just too slow and poorly communicated. I will be using Valvoline or similar local shops for all future oil changes. read more

Anyways I did all my due diligence and did all the research and decided Mazda 3 is the car and Star Mazda has the best deal and was able to get the Mazda 3 in the trim and color I wanted. The Salesperson, Abiel Herrera did an incredible job and went above and beyond in terms of service and the Finance Manager, Steven Schwartz was excellent. I do not have the best credit score but it's amazing what he did for me and I also got the maintenance agreement so now I'm set for the next 3 years and know exact what to budget. He was the third Mazda dealership I called - but the only associate to actually have a conversation with me, looked up all the cars in the inventory that matched what I was looking for. Did not try to lure me in under false pretenses. He understood I knew what I wanted, the price I wanted and if he had it - done deal. When I showed up, he had the car ready to go. Didn't BS me and try to upsell me - he did give me options to upgrade but I had explained to him my car was stolen and I'm not really in the market but am essentially forced to buy something. We came in around closing time one night, we hadn't checked their hours beforehand, just stopped to look at a CX5 for my fiance after a couple other dealerships on Brand. Pablo greeted us with a huge smile and asked what we were looking at. We told him and he showed us their floor model. After giving us the details on the CX5, we asked to test drive it. It was only then that Pablo told us that they had already closed and we couldn't drive but we could stay and keep asking him questions about the car, warranty, etc. We'd been car shopping for a couple weeks and were used to the sales guys trying to sell the car to me, even though it was for my fiance, she'd be paying for it, and she asked all the questions ! So when Pablo greeted us so warmly, when they were pretty much closed, and carried on the conversation with my fiance rather than me, we were impressed. We ended up getting a different car for her, but were so happy with Pablo that we came back for mine. I had been looking at used cars, but Pablo helped get me a great deal on a new one. We started with the option of financing, however, it didn't work out due to my visa status. Glendale Star Mazda is the greatest. They greet me by my name upon arrival and give me the Star Treatment even when the appointment is a simple oil change! I usually try to bring in a clean car but yesterday the car wash went down right before my turn so I came to my service date covered in sap, cobwebs and leaves and probably a squirrel or two in there! Not only did they deliver it to me washed, but they did a vacuum inside too! And, after the complimentary tire rotation, the side walls look brand new with a wipe of Armor-All. As a first-time new car purchase, this transaction was handled by professional, sincere, incredible individuals. The person who helped me through everything was Kyle, the Internet Sales Manager. When we arrived to check out the dealership for the first time, although there was no one to immediately help us, we were approached on three different occasions to ask if we'd been helped, and they made sure to find someone to help us as soon as possible. Kyle offered to help us, and he took us on a test drive while explaining all the details of the car (which he did twice, thankfully, helping me completely understand what features my car came with, and all of the cool gadgets and abilities). Kyle was diligent, answering any question or concern I had, never losing patience, making sure I was totally and completely informed on the entire process. He was easy to communicate with whenever I needed answers. He still is very helpful, answering questions for me even after purchase. He is one of the hardest workers I've met, being approachable and good-natured. Also - Not only did he make sure to track down the exact car (drivetrain, color, model, package) I wanted, he was informative on the process all the way through, which is exactly what I needed as a first-time car buyer. I was blown away by the staff here, because when I'd went to another dealership (I won't mention who!), they treated my mother and I with absolute rude behavior, unlike Kyle, who was instantly informative, helpful, and didn't treat my mother and I like idiots. He was very professional all the way through, and my mother and I were able to tell right off the bat that we were in good hands. Don't waste your time going to any other MAZDA dealership! Star MAZDA is where you wanna go! I had visited this dealership on two separate occasions. My first visit to the dealership was up to my par when it came to customer service. I was greeted by my Abiel and he helped show me the vehicle I was interested in. At the time of my first visit, I was not able to make a purchase because of the remaining payments I had on my leased vehicle at the time. Even though I was a bit ahead of the game on my next purchase Abiel was calm, friendly and so helpful. He never made me feel like I was wasting his time that day as I was not making a purchase. He even went to his desk manager to see if there was any way they can pull me out of my leased vehicle ahead of time. This made such a lasting impression on me that when it came time for me to trade in my old lease I went back to Abiel. On my second visit again, it was five stars all the way! Abiel showed me all the bells and whistles the cx5 had to offer. He took me on a great test drive so I can get a great feel for the car. Oh did I mention that he even remembered who I was from like six months ago from my first visit!!!! Anyways, he was able to get me the price I wanted and color and trim line. I took a long time to decide as I always do with any purchase I make so Edita had to help as Abiel had another client that came in. Edita, is such a character!!! OMG!!! I feel compelled to write a review for Star Mazda because buying a car is a BIG THING for some people, including myself. I purchased a car from them 2 years ago and the process went smooth. But like everyone else on a budget, I wanted to get the best deal on another car even if I had to switch dealerships. Yet, Star Mazda proved that they are the best Mazda dealership for me. I believe what separates them from other dealerships is their transparent process & amazing customer service. I decided to start my search online for a 2017 Mazda 3, so I do not have to drag my sister and myself to every dealership. After I emailed many places within a 50 miles range from Los Angeles, Kyle from Star Mazda was the most approachable - he sounded like a real, genuine, helpful person. For example, one dealership spammed me with 3-5 emails a day while another dealership insisted that I provided a phone # before their "product specialist" could check if a specific car had the premium package. However, at Star, Kyle gave me all the necessary information I wanted through email (model, price, rebates, etc). He answered all my questions in a friendly manner. He even provided me with the lowest quote (about $1500 less). There were no hidden fees nor any rebates that I do not qualify for once I am at the dealership --the internet price was REAL! Importantly, I felt like the whole thing was an easy, transparent process. The exceptional part of this experience was when Kyle went out of his way to look for a 2017 car model for me (When I was ready to buy a month later, they had no more in stock since 2018 is here. The early bird gets the worm!! LOL! Not at Star though -- Kyle will get you one!! LOL!) When we met up, he was professional and helped me find the exact model I wanted from another place. There was no pressure to buy and I took my time to go home and decide. When I decided to purchase later on, he had the car delivered to Star (no extra fee). Notably, when I went to see the car, the car was right in the front with a VIP rope (WOW). That made me feel special & Kyle said he got the last eternal blue mica for me from San Diego!! WOOT! I believe it is the extra mile that sellers provide for customers, such as the little things, that is truly exceptional customer service. This was definitely shown through my car buying experience with Kyle. I believe he should be a role model for exceptional customer service! I feel like the whole car buying experience was amazing because I got lucky and worked with Kyle. I had a car situation, and had to leave the car at Star for a week and he babysat it for no additional fee. Then, when I went to pick it up, Jon greeted me and he was very sweet. Kyle brought the car out and it was sparkly cleaned again!! He even included free tint on the back windows! Lastly, I must comment that there was also no pressure to buy their maintenance plan or any other offers. I knew what I wanted (no extra stuff) and that's what I got. Don helped me with the paperwork and he was so sweet too. Again, there was no hidden fees. Everything was transparent from the start and Star exceeded in customer service. I may have to contact the headquarters of Yelp to request that Yelpers be allowed to give 0 stars to businesses. Reason being, my experience at Star Mazda definitely warrants 0 stars. Usually, I try to give a business the benefit of the doubt, when I experience less-than-perfect service but, in this case, Star Mazda deserves no stars and someone should have them take the "Star" out of their name. Unfortunately, a hose went bad in my car and needed immediate replacement. My regular mechanic couldn't get the hose from his distributor until the following Monday, and it was Saturday, so I called Star Mazda to ask if they had a hose I could purchase. Much to my surprise, they had the hose and informed me they could install it the same day for the same price that my mechanic quoted me, which was approximately $200.00. When I arrived, I dealt with Raul, a Service Advisor, who wasn't as friendly in the beginning and his professionalism continued to dwindle. Raul called some mechanics over to look at the hose on my car and, as I stood in the background, I heard one mechanic, Erick, make jokes about my car, as he didn't know I was standing nearby. These people were randomly calling out alleged problems about my car without doing a proper diagnostic test. Before I knew it, Raul came to inform me that my "gaskets are going to rip" and mentioned other alleged problems, all that would cost over $1,000.00. Immediately, I informed Raul to let down the hood of my car so I could leave. Surprisingly, Raul became upset because I didn't want them to work on my car, so he walked away without putting down my hood. Without losing my composure, as I wanted to do, I stayed calm and asked for the assistance of another mechanic that was standing with Raul and Erick as they misdiagnosed my car problems. Instead of putting my hood down, this particular mechanic stated he'll find Raul to ask why he didn't put my hood down. At this point, I walked inside to ask for the General Manager, David, whom wasn't available, but I was given his business card. After about 20 more minutes, I found someone to put my hood down. Then, Raul requested that I sign a document in order for them to release my car to me. I refused to sign, as they didn't perform any work. Raul was insistent, but I never agreed to his request, but some female employee nicely asked for me to sign, so I signed "unhappy customer" and no one at Star Mazda even noticed. Well, this all happened several weeks ago. I intentionally waited to write this review because David, the General Manager, informed me that he'll have the Service Manager call me regarding this situation. Actually, I should state that I had to continuously call David, as he never responded to my voicemails. David informed me that I left in my message that if I don't hear from him I'll e-mail him, so he stated he was just waiting for my e-mail and that's why he never called me back. Anyway, to date, I haven't received any feedback from Star Mazda. For these reasons, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I've been a fan of Mazda for over 10 years but after this experience, I will probably never buy from Mazda again, as I even contacted their headquarters in Orange County and they didn't follow-up. By the way, my regular mechanic was able to fix my car and, surprisingly, it was much cheaper than the quoted price of $200.00. Whoever writes a positive review about this place must work for them. My wife took my car in to get a 15k mile service as per the manual's service schedule. All it needed was an oil change and oil filter change and the customary fluid inspections. She was told that she needed a cleaning to the throttle body, which is not something that needs to be done to an almost new car. Unfortunately, she was taken advantage of and we ended up paying $293 for a 15k mile service. To add to that, she asked about a noise in the brakes when the car is in reverse. They claimed to have fixed it, but it's still broken! Don't take your car here. Very untrustworthy. This coming from a guy who hardly complains! read more

Earlier in April 2012, two petite Asian women walked into this dealer looking for a good deal on a Mazda 2. They were polite and sat around waiting while one of the salesman went to check his inventory for the car they wanted. A different salesman asked if they wanted help...they explained someone else was looking into their request. It turns out that Salesman #1 forgot about them in his rush. Alright, issue cleared and they both helped themselves to a cup of tea while they waited 20 minutes. They then were assigned to a different salesman who was very friendly and made a lot of kooky jokes to keep the mood jovial. This all went downhill when he presented one of the women, me, the older sister a "good deal" for a car at the MRSP price. Obviously that wasn't good enough so I told him so. He then proceeded to show me prices on KBB to argue that his price was fair. He was defeated by the internet. I suggested the ridiculous price of $13,000 as a starting point...and I'll have to say...the guy went BONKERS on us. First he brought another salesman to laugh at our offer to show us it was ridiculous, then he proceeded to argue how he wouldn't make a profit if he gave us the car at lower than the MRSP price and how Madzas had no profit of margin. i even showed him a better deal I got from a different Madza dealer and he started to degrade the other dealer and continue to harass us into buying a car because it was the fairest price by talking in a loud voice. I turned to my sister and said let's leave. That poor innocent soul she was, she lingered while he still had the gall to offer her his business card and asked her to call. I don't know what others think, but that guy seriously needs to work on his sales tactics. We ended up feeling very much harassed. My sister was traumatized and continues to be... in fact, she disavowed from haggling and left me to car shop on my own... Hopefully others will have a better experience we had! read more

I had a miserable and heartbreaking time shopping at Star Mazda, where I was lied to constantly. I found a great Mazda3 at Star Mazda, for a price that would have been negotiable to my price point, only to have to WALK before signing the final documents and handing over the CASH. I had "green" CASH in hand, and walked, because I couldn't get a straight and reliable answer from my dealer. He laughed at me when I asked why all of the 150 Point Vehicle Inspection points weren't checked! He said I would drive it and find out! This was not funny to me, as I had a RIGHT to know what I was buying, and the truth was, he didn't know why the points weren't checked...and went back and forth at least 2 times to the "inspector" to get more points checked. I was so confused and disheartened when he came back again and again without them checked and without a clear explanation why they weren't checked, that I walked. I didn't trust him or the dealership. This was especially heartbreaking because when I had spent the day with him, the day before my attempted purchase, I loved him and wanted to give him the deal because 1. I found the car I wanted at a price I could afford and 2. he was kind and I sensed he was being honest with me. All that changed the next day...when he began lying to me via text about credit checks being needed if you pay in CASH. Once confronted, he changed his story and told me he didn't know I meant CASH. ???? (I had done my homework and knew credit checks are not needed on "green" CASH payments.) Each time I called him out on a "fact" I knew was not true, he struggled to respond. It gets worse....I had looked up the dealership online and saw that they had many negative reviews and people also felt scammed and cheated. When I informed my dealer that I was aware of their reputation, he began to reveal further details of their shady history, assuming I knew....CONFIRMING what I had sensed. Apparently, Star Mazda has a history of dealer/s stealing people's identities! Whether or not this is a continued practice of the present dealers I do not know, however the dealership does NOTHING to ensure that they are clean and legitimate. Even worse than my dealer, was the director of Star Mazda, or whomever the "director" was who tried to negotiate a buy/sell deal with me! He is a total A$$HOLE. He's condescending and a CHEAT. Offered me a "deal" to buy my used Volvo and sell me a used Mazda3 which would require me to pay MORE money than the asking price of the MAZDA! What??!? LOL. What a joke. And a a$$hole. How is that a deal or possible?!? Shouldn't selling my car to you help REDUCE my cost of the new vehicle? Creepy. This creepy behavior lost them thousands of dollars. I wish my experience had been different. It was a terrible, terrible experience. Luckily, I found Galpin Mazda to be more reputable and straightforward. I bought a lovely Mazda3 from them that I absolutely love and had a pleasant experience. NOT only would I NEVER go back to Star Mazda, I would recommend to all Angelenos to NOT GO TO STAR MAZDA unless you know you can see through their bs and ensure that they do not take advantage of you. On 12/29/13, I was in Glendale looking at cars. I had a few models on the list that I wanted to test drive. I drove a Nissan Juke and loved it, but I still wanted to drive the Mazda3, so I headed over to Star Mazda. I remember not feeling terribly comfortable as soon as I arrived and even saying "I don't want to buy a car here..." I should have listened to my intuition. We were already there, so we took a 2014 Mazda3 out for a test drive. I really enjoyed the car. Nice road feel, great features, in my price range. We got back to the lot, and talked about new 2013s that they still had on the lot. The sales guy kept talking about the rebate that was available, and how they'd only sold 1 car all day, and that he'd really like to sell me the car. The only one they had in stock in a color that I wanted had 111 miles on it. When I said "so, at 2 miles per test drive, that means 50 people have driven this car? Not exactly new...", the sales rep replied with "well, we usually take people on longer test drives, like 5 miles". Uh, ok...you're not making it better. So we went inside and ran the numbers. I was putting down a huge inital payment on a past model year, with over 100 miles on it. It was the end of the year, at the end of the day with only 1 other sale, so I thought I might have some negotiating power. We got to what I thought was a fair price, they sent the car off to be washed and gassed up and I started signing paperwork. We got outside and there was the car, cute and ready to go. It was already dark out, so I pulled up under the lights in the lot to look at it before I drove away. I noticed a few scuffs in the plastic around the window, and some marks on the leather in the backseat. Doesn't really feel like a new car...the sales guy goes in to get the sales manager. They somehow convince me to drive the car home, and they'll call me on Tuesday to set up some time for me to bring the car back to be fully detailed, likely that Friday. It was late, and I was starving, and not thinking straight, so I agreed. (**Editor's note: At this point, the correct action would have been to ask that I leave the car until they could clean it up, and come back to get it on Tuesday, or whenever. I told them I didn't live anywhere near Glendale, and I wasn't happy about having to come back.) So, I drive home, and start playing with the controls and radio and stuff. In addition to the 111 miles on the car, which I kind of understand, there were 5 phones paired to the Bluetooth. FIVE. I get that people want to see how it works when they're test driving the car, but come on. The sales rep should have factory reset the entire system before handing over the keys. At least give me the illusion of a new car. You know that smell of burning plastic from all the lining on the underside of the car melting away in those first 25 miles? Nada. Totally gone already. Again, not really a "new car" experience. I get a call Tuesday morning from Laurie, wanting to check how my experience had been. I call back and leave her a message. A bit later, the sales guy calls. Expecting "Ok, we'll see you Friday", I'm surprised when he says "you can come in next Tuesday". No, I can't, I tell him. I work on Tuesday. What happened to Friday? He says he'll call me right back. A few hours later...he finally calls back and says...wait for it..."Ok, we'll do it your way. You can bring it in on Friday." Excuse me? Are you doing me a favor? I just spent $20-some-odd THOUSAND and it seems like as soon as the paperwork was signed, I lost any importance or value to them as a customer. He asks if I'll be able to wait while they detail it, I say no, I have errands to run, and he says they'll be able to put me in a loaner for the day. I call Laurie back again, as I haven't heard back. She apologizes profusely, says the sales manager will talk to the whole sales team about the way they handle customers, tells me she doesn't want anyone else to go through what I went through...ok..but what about me? She doesn't really have a solution, and seems to think that detailing the car for me is enough. It's not. That's what's expected. So, Friday morning, I drive up to Glendale (I live in mid-city, btw), and meet Mike, the service guy. He's awesome. He looks at the car, tells me what needs to be done and how long it'll take. He apologizes that they might not have the parts in stock (it's not just a detailing anymore) and tells me he'd like to keep the car until Tuesday, so he can make sure it's perfect. Fine - they give me a voucher and off I go to Enterprise. I splurge & upgrade my rental. I expect to have it over the weekend, after all. Then I get a message that my car will be ready at 4:30. That's inconvenient. I'm in Culver City, not Glendale. What can they do for my troubles? I suggest a car cover. "Sorry, we can't do that". Oh, really? Sorry, I can't ever come to your dealership again. And I'm telling everyone why. read more

I took my 6 month old Mazda in for its first service. This should have been the basic oil change. They tried to tell me that my 6 month old car needed new breaks. I asked, "How can I need breaks on a new car?" The service manager replies, "it must be the way you drive." Needless to say I did not have the breaks replaced and took my car to another Mazda dealer who confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my breaks. read more

I was hugely disappointed that I was unable to get the car I wanted in Glendale where I live. Fortunately, Sierra Mazda of Monrovia got me the car I wanted and fast. At the Glendale location I was laughed at, lied to three times and ignored. They also had no room to negotiate. I visited three times and purchased no car after I clearly told them I only wanted to buy a Mazda. 1. They told me that only the Sport model comes with red stitching on the seats. Lie. It is on all Gran Touring Models. 2. This was my first new car purchase. I asked a naive question and was replied to with a chuckle and called "cute." 3. They told me the Mazda sale in Monrovia was only for the basic models. Lie. It was on all models. 4. They didn't ask me to test drive the car the first time I came by. Even though I told them I needed a car by the following Monday since I sold my current car. 5. They told me that if I wanted the blue colored car I'd have to wait 3-6 months. Lie. Monrovia could get it in a week. Finally when I got a call back from Glendale I was already cruising in my brand new Mazda i Grand Touring!!! It took one visit and I got it 2k cheaper! read more
