I think of my car as my baby and I am very sensitive (paranoid) when it comes to repairs. I don't trust mechanics, lawyers, doctors....4-5 years ago I was at this place and after the issues with oil tank problem I decided to go to different mechanic. However, my good mechanic left the country for a month and I had to fix my car ASAP for smog check and annual registration. From the first moment these guys at Star Mazda were super welcoming and professional. I expected to explain me exactly what they will do and that's what they did. My rep was David Gomez. I honestly wish that every customer service person acts and behive like David. So after my part came in, I dropped off my car and went to close-by manicure place. I needed to some stress relief for leaving my car with them. I was offered shuttle but I really like to walk. When they were finished, they called me to pick me up, but again, I like to walk. I don't have enough words to compliment both David Gomez and Mr. Roy Wells (service manager) for the way how they handled me as their client and from now on, I will go to them even for oil change! I was looking to replace my 2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring with another SUV due to end of lease, but after doing quite a bit of research I couldn't find anything comparable to my 2019 CX-5, but another CX-5, this time the 2022 Mazda CX-5 Preferred. The vehicle met all my expectations online, so I called Star Mazda in Glendale, CA and Raymond Cadena answered the phone. He was friendly and easy to talk to. He even spoke to me in Spanish to ease the conversation. I setup an appointment with Raymond to test drive the car and he was ready with the keys when I arrived. I was fortunate that Star Mazda has the model and color I wanted. With other dealers the wait was about a week or more. The car was way better and more powerful than the one I had before and I decided to make an offer. They worked a deal with me and made my lease payments very similar to my previous 2019 model. Once my paper work was done, the car was ready for delivery. Raymond asked me to download the new MyMazda App and we configured it on my smart phone. Set all features and test them up. He explained with high detailed how to use the new features I didn't have in my old car and now I know a lot more about my new 2022 Mazda CX-5 SUV. If you are shopping for a Mazda all you need to do is call or email Kyle Groom. Seriously, we shopped around for months, the car buying world is a deep swirling pit of confusing information. We walked in a few dealerships and haggled, we paid for a fighting chance information package, we checked out edmunds price promise, we looked at truecar, we considered the costco buying program. But all I really had to do was email Kyle. He came back with a quote immediately, and was prompt and responsive in all his communication. No gimmicks, everything spelled out. No phone call spamming for you to "call him immediately" for a great deal. He gave me the exact cost breakdown, with the Out the Door price, as I requested. WHAT? I thought, must be too good to be true, thought I'd still check in out in person to make sure. We bought the car the next day because we knew we were getting a good deal. (Seriously we had multiple quotes and had a massive spreadsheet to calculate everything.) He might be a bit busy if you just walk in, so make sure to let him know when you might be stopping by or schedule a time. We also expected to have to put up a fight in the finance department for any mistakes on our financing rate, or for the extended warranty up sell, but we just kindly declined and that was it. I got my car serviced at their new service department at 1401 South Brand Blvd. I came to the dealership because the last time I got my car serviced, it was really cheap! It was not the same this time around. I was helped right away, and when the guy asked me what he could do for me, I asked them if they had a 15,000 mile service package. He showed me what they offered and it was a bunch of stuff that totalled to $280!!! A total rip off when all I really needed was an oil change =(. But I didn't know that until I reviewed my manual. In the end, it was my stupidity for thinking I could get a good deal for service at a dealership. I highly recommend reviewing your vehicle manual before making any quick decisions on service. I gave them 2 stars because they were actually friendly and offered donuts, water and coffee in the waiting room. But other than that, total RIP OFF!!! read more

Turned a leased CX5 today was treated unprofessionally by finance/lease mgr. Vietnamese man named Tim Ngyuen with a chip in his shoulder. Was told to go to his office he was on phone and had a client sitting in the office. Tim sees me and while on the phone abruptly says "yea we can't take the car, that's not how it works" I go ok well, how does IT WORK? Cause I was told to bring the vehicle here, again rudely says " WHO TOLD YOU THIS? I said Star financial (chase bank) Then Tim says u have to call chase financial and have them make appointment for a inspection. My initial thought is why you so angry? Am I interrupting your current sale? U can't handle a phone call a client and me all at once? So I say ok what's chase financials number? Mad guy says "um I don't have it I'll have to look for it" to which I say WHY DON'T YOU DO YOUR JOB! After I get on the phone Chase account rep says let me talk to him so I give Tim the phone I'm watching him talk as he quickly walks away as he knows he fucked up. Now Disgraced MGR barks at me "ok ok where's the key Gimmie the keys!" I go dude do u know how to say please? He says "I DON'T have to with you" I say whys that he says " you're a rude asshole" to which I say and you're a fucking douche and he told me to FUCK OFF MAN! I go "who's your boss ? A decent sales experience soured by one of the worst service departments I have ever encountered. Worked out a lease with excellent numbers via email with Greg Moss for a 2011 Mazdaspeed3. Came into the dealer expecting to sign for that deal. Once we sit down, there has been a "mistake" with my credit history (I have Tier 1 credit) and because I have never leased before, only purchased, they can't give me the best money factor rate, raising my monthly payment by $40. I was pretty irritated as there was no mention of this before, but they adjusted the value of my trade-in so that the payments would only be $20 more than they quoted me in the emails. Still unprofessional in my opinion, but a good enough deal for me to bite. Greg (the sales guy) was very nice and helpful, he did his job well and I appreciated his help. Even mailed me copies of some of the paperwork I misplaced. I don't blame for the finance mishap since he was just getting the numbers from the finance guys. He handled the situation well and did everything he could to make it right. Would definitely deal with him again. But let's get to service. The car I leased has some rattles. A new car is not supposed to have rattles. The rattles are coming from the dash area and the passenger seat area and were driving me nuts. I have so far taken in to service a total of three times and the rattles have yet to be repaired. In fact, on this last repair, they disassembled the dash only to make the problem worse by not properly installing the foam insulation between the dash and the windshield that is supposed to prevent these rattles and creaks. As a final courtesy, they left greasy palm prints across the interior of the car. Further, I requested that they repair a tail light that kept filling with condensation when it rained. Guess what? They have yet to do it because they keep forgetting to order the part. Finally, I asked them to configure one of the features on the advanced key-less entry system so that it would automatically lock the car when I walked away. They told me it was enabled. Guess what? It was not! So basically, the service people seem to be incapable of doing their job. Hopefully fourth time is the charm when the regional "Mazda Technician" comes in to take a look at my car. So if you do buy a car here, great, just make sure you never ever bring it here for service. Go to Galpin, go to Jiffy Lube, hell, go to Craigslist for a mechanic - then maybe you can have finally fixed what is broken in your new car. UPDATE: Finally the fourth time around they managed to fix some of the rattle and replace my taillight. The manager even had my car detailed as a consolation prize. However, despite the (finally) successful service, the financing department called me to let me know they screwed up the paperwork and SURPRISE! my payment was going to go down! While I was happy my payment was going to decline, I was a bit concerned that they let me walk out of a dealership with a car and keep it for a month without ever verifying that the financing went through. Something just isn't right here.... read more

With a few caveats, I had a good experience buying a used car from Star Mazda, and specifically having Kyle the Internet Sales Manager as our primary contact. The good part started right away - I sent in a request via Cars.com to check on availability. This shouldn't have been a big deal, but some places will lie and tell you the car is there and then try to sell you something else. This happened to us only a few days ago and cost us hours of traffic aggravation, so when Kyle called me back about my inquiry, it was very nice that he said "let me check" and then told me that yes, he could see the car from his window. We also appreciated Kyle's low-pressure sales approach. It was refreshing. He didn't freak and try to chase us down (as the dude who we walked out on last week did) when we initially walked away the first night, due to a few reservations. The only real problem, other than having to wait a long time to arrange financing, is that they simply don't negotiate on price (at least on used cars. I don't know how they deal with new ones). This may be nice for you, actually, if you know you're getting the deal you want. Also, a minor issue - they slipped in a last minute thing on me about $99 for "nitrogen fill" on the tires, which I saw the sticker for but assumed was included. The finance manager didn't notice it at first and had to go back and delete all the things I'd signed so that he could include the 3 dollars a month for it. It's silly and lame and I should have argued it, but I didn't. C'est la vie. You may want to keep an eye out for it, though. Overall, though, if I am ever looking for another used car, and it was at Star Mazda, I wouldn't hesitate to head over there again. At least, as long as Kyle is there. read more

Purchased a Mazda because of the reputation of reliability. Don't come to this dealership expecting the world though. The service department gets the job done but it's it or miss on who is assigned to you when it comes to customer service. For the sales department- plan on spending plenty of time sitting around listening to the "let me check with my manager" line over and over again just to realize you can get a better deal elsewhere. I've tried multiple times to give the sales department a fair chance in changing my opinion. Don't expect to be greeted by any of the 4-6 people just hanging around the reception desk chatting it up while ignoring potential customers. What happened to customer service? SERVICE: FOUR STARS Really friendly guys, especially their guy Nathon. I bought my Mazda from Star, so I took it back to them for some under-warranty work. They quickly identified the source of the problem, and were never anything but nice about fixing it for free under the warranty. Downside: a required part took a couple of days to come in, and instead of booking me advance for an appointment on the day it was due to arrive, it was up to me to call them, find out if the part had come in, and *then* make an appointment to actually get it installed. Inefficient, guys. But again, they were professional and nice otherwise. Car now runs fine. SALES AND FINANCING: TWO AND A HALF STARS UPSIDES: Again, the salesmen were all friendly. And I managed to easily talk up the price for my trade-in by about $300, and talk *down* the price for a pre-owned, certified Mazda by a few hundred more. I think I ultimately got a good, fair price for my car, especially considering it came with a certified warranty -- I have yet to see a better price for this car that doesn't seem suspicious. Word to the wise, though: CHECK STAR MAZDA'S WEBSITE FOR PRICES before going on their lot. They are required to honor prices listed for specific cars on their website, and I found the website prices were far lower than the sticker prices on their lot. In my case the difference was about $4,000. DOWNSIDES: First off, a Mazda certified car is supposed to go through a supposedly rigorous 150-point certification inspection. Yet after driving the car a week and hearing grinding and vibration in low gear, I returned the vehicle for servicing... and was told the transmission mount was cracked *and* the belt tensioner needed to be replaced. Does Star Mazda's certification procedure not include examining the transmission or the engine? Or, like, driving the car around a bit to make sure the gears don't grind? I noticed this problem almost as soon as I drove up a hill. Of course, the repairs were all under warranty -- that's the beauty of a certified used car -- but bringing in the car for repairs took hours of my time. And if their standards are this low on a certified car, imagine what they must be like on a non-warrantied one. Secondly, their financing guy was a little quick for my taste. I felt hurried through the process of signing my financing agreement. Expect this in advance and take your time. Finally, in the weeks since buying my car, I've had a few questions for both sales and service (small stuff like checking in on my registration and the like). I've found I'm generally transferred to some associate's voice mail, who finally calls me back like a day or two later. If I miss his call, the process repeats. A little annoying to wait several days to have a quick question answered. Over all though, I have to say I'm pretty OK with this place -- which is a lot to say for a car dealership. Just do your pricing research and try to get something under warranty. read more

The day before a big trip, I realized that I had a nail in my tire that was causing it to constantly leak air to dangerously low levels. It was after 9pm the night before when I diagnosed the problem and my standard dealership is in San Diego. Problem? Oh yeah. I googled for a Mazda dealership and Star popped up. I saw there was an online scheduling system and picked the earliest open slot - 8am. I received a confirmation email. Here's the thing. I needed to be at work by 9 and leave for LAX at 11. I got to Star two minutes after they opened at 7:30. I was promptly checked in by the amazing Santiago, who listened to the issue. He told me I'd be in and out in a half hour and it would be $25 bucks. Guess what? He was right!!! I was driving out of Star exactly 30 minutes after, full of complimentary coffee and ready to tackle the day, on budget with the problem solved. While I waited, I had a pleasant conversation with one of the sales reps. He didn't even try to sell me anything, he was just being kind. I get it was a simple fix, but there were cars ahead of me, and they still helped out right away and got me on my way. A fantastic experience and a MAJOR shout out to Santiago, who really saved the day. The absolute worst car dealership I've ever had to deal with. The sales people are belligerent, impatient, condescending, and will actually cut you off in conversation and dismiss you when they don't get the response they want out of you. I leased my car from them a few years back and had to go back recently to visit. If you do use them, make sure to have a lawyer review any contracts they provide you - the guy who handles the paperwork and contract signing lied to me and my friend about multiple questions we asked them regarding what was included in the lease contract. read more

Everything was going good until they LOST my husband's drivers license. I would like to give a better review of this place, but I cannot because my husband's drivers license was lost! A drivers license should not be something that gets lost here or taken lightly! We took a car out for a test drive. The salesman we were dealing with thought he gave it back in the car. He did not. My husband and I both made a mental note to not forget to ask for the driver's license before we left the dealership because the customer this salesman was dealing with before us had to come back and ask for their license in front of us because the salesman forgot to give them their license back. A little while later, the salesman looked around the places he knew he had my husbands drivers license, but could not find it. He asked us if we had it, we did not because he never gave it back. Another customer in the parking lot that had a meeting with our salesman after us told us that our salesman told him he thought he gave it back to us and acted like he did not believe we didn't have it. Again, he did not give it back and we did not have it. While we were there, another salesman came over to ask our salesman to look at a woman's drivers license to see if he knew her because it was left behind. He said no he didn't even recognize her. So in the short time we were there, that is 3 different instances (my husband included) where drivers licenses weren't getting back to potential customers. Except for the one guy before us who came back and got his luckily. Something is wrong with this place when it comes to drivers licenses. That is not something that should be happening!! read more
