I had a comically similar experience to Jeff M. Driving my 2003 BMW 330xi from San Jose to Sacramento. About halfway there, the alternator warning light goes off. The ol' girl made it about another 40 miles on just the battery, but then she started falling asleep. I pulled it off the highway and managed to get it into a parking spot in a hotel lot just as the engine was starting to misfire. Had my girlfriend pick me up and came back on Monday with a tow truck to get me to Star Tech. They got me patched up and back on the road Tuesday. 500 miles later car is having no problems. Very nice, clean shop. Claire runs the front of the shop and is very amicable. And fair prices for the work performed. They tried to get me out the door as fast as possible since they knew I was from out of town. All of that is good for 4 stars. Why the 5 stars? I had them look the car over for anything else it might need while it was i the shop. I gotten an excellent report of things I might want to keep an eye on, but didn't need to repair. I heard lines that I hardly ever hear anymore like "and we won't charge you labor for that belt/airfilter since we were in there doing the alternator anyway". I am seriously considering timing my BMW service with my visits to Sacramento just so I can bring my car here. read more

Brought my 99 slk230 to Star Tech European after finding out I had a bad transmission that needed replacement. I got three different estimates, all of them were ridiculously high. One business (not to be named) recommend I junk the car. We love our Mercedes and didn't want to junk it although it's got high mileage. After reaching out to Star Tech European and talking with Josh, I was given an estimate and was told that I was looking at a 1 week repair. They completed the work less than a week, repair costs were much more reasonable than the other estimates and best of all they were really nice people. Keep up the good work Star Tech! Want to find a good mechanic shop that's honest? I was actually referred to them by a friend who told me "it would be a big mistake for you to not take your car to them first". I brought it there for a 90K tune up and they looked at the manufacture's recommendation and figured out exactly what needed to be done. They didn't try to sell me something i didn't need and Claire was super helpful in the process. The name saids European, but they maintain all cars, I have a Nissan. Honest and skilled! Our 2008 BMW broke down in the middle of our trip. Got towed here, tech saw us immediately, diagnosed our issue and helped my car-guy husband find a solution to get the car driveable to get us home where WE could do the work! Most car shops (esp. european) are secretive and look down on those who do their own mechanic work. This guy was so respectful and honest. We were out in under 2 hours and on our way home for a minimal cost of diagnostics, but a wealth of information! My VW's drive train went out when I was down in San Jose. Was able to limp it over to the dealer and they quoted me a little over $1500. I live in Fairfield so I got on Yelp and started looking for a well reviewed shop in the area. Found Star Tech and boy am I happy I did! They saved me over $1000 on the repair and had me back on the road in 2 days. Would have been sooner if I was able to get the truck in sooner. I used to have a shop down in so-cal that I trusted my cars with and now I have one up here. Customer service and communication was awesome. Claire was super nice and let me know all my options up front, even additional costs before they came up, just in case. Owning a European car when the dealership is at least 45 minutes away can be problematic but Star Tech European is quick and efficient. I recently thought I had a bigger issue then I did and they didn't try to take advantage of me like some other places would have. read more

Be careful. Got an oil change here for my car & they put 2 Miles on it... I didn't realize that it's business policy to drive my car while it's scheduled for an oil change. Granted 2 Miles is nothing but they still shouldn't be driving my car around to go pickup lunch (I'm assuming). They even had it on their receipt with the in/out mileage. Next time I'm going to put my black box/dash cam pointed inside & make sure I take a picture of my mileage so I can confront them. read more

This is the second time (after several years back east) I have worked with this crew, and they are amazing! They provided me a quote for a side view mirror on my 78 Beetle so I could file a claim with the transport company, even before I brought the vehicle in for more extensive repairs. Let me first say, the people who work here are very friendly and communicative. And the prices at Star Tech are quite reasonable. With regards to repairs though, unfortunately, my experience has not been good. I have had the same issue with the boost of my car for about 6 months. I have taken my car to Star Tech about 4 times for the exact same problem and every time I take it there, my car would work for about 3 or 4 weeks and then the check engine light would come right back on. I kept going back because my service is still under warranty, but unfortunately, after multiple chances, Star Tech was not able to provide the necessary repairs. I do not feel my personal experience is a reflection of the shop. I feel my experience is an outlier in the grand scheme of things, but unfortunately I will need to take my business else where. read more

They do great work at a reasonable price. Charged $165 for an oil change on a Volvo. I've had $75 oil changes. I notice my vehicle had a loud idling high type of noise and they said nothing was wrong with it. First class autoshop, very professional, honest, would recommend... So I'm driving back from San Fran to Reno on a Sunday -Thanksgiving weekend and my car decides to take a dump (literally) the radiator blows out on my '03 BMW 330xi and I wind up stuck in Vacaville with nothing open. Limp my car to the nearest hotel and overnight it... First thing Monday morning I make it to another auto shop that doesn't work on BMW's and they recommend Star Tech. You never know what to expect especially when you're stranded there's a good chance of getting screwed - but I really lucked out finding Star Tech European. They got me in first thing - ahead of all the other cars and diagnosed a blown expansion tank. Ordered the parts and I was out of there by early afternoon with a very resonable $420 bill. This is a family owned business and Claire up front was really nice, and son Drew worked on my car and even showed it to me on the lift so I could see what went wrong. Second time into this shop. Work and knowledge seem to be okay. One issue, which is a general observation of all mechanic shops, car was return with items not buttoned up. This instance was backseat left loose, not put back in place. Not a huge job to do, but shows lack of details and makes me wonder what else was left undone, which is why I am giving 3 stars for last service. Not only do they provide quality repairs and maintenance at a fair price and prompt service, but they take care of little things at no charge. For example, today I had my front brakes and rotors replaced on my 1999 BMW. I moved back into Vacaville in February of 2014. I needed some work on my car, so l looked at Yelp for suggestions. I saw Star Tech European had nice ratings and comments, so I gave them a try. I like these guys. I own a 2000 BMW with over 270K miles. About two months ago, the electronic keys stopped working--both mine and my wife's. I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend a lot of money on such an old car, so I stopped by and asked them. The technician tried a few things, then said my best bet was new keys, because usually that fixes the problem (For about $150 per key) if he really got into it, it would immediately cost me for the diagnosis at around $125.00, before he did anything else. He then told me if it wasn't the key, it could quickly become expensive. I decided I can live with the car the way it is. A couple of weeks ago, I got a "Check Engine" light and took it in. They found a code, but the everything seemed to work fine. They cleared the code and told me to come back if it came back. It hasn't done so. Cost? $40; not even a full hour's labor. They know what they're doing, they're honest, and they give good advice. What more can you ask of your mechanic? read more
