My friends and I were able to walk in on a Saturday at 11am, and we were seated immediately. We really liked the back patio, which had heating lamps above to help us stay warm! The service and the food were pretty quick, so we were in and out in around an hour. I got the chilaquiles, and it was a much larger portion than I was expecting! I liked that it came with half an avocado, and the side salad helped break up the meal too. I wish the chilaquiles were a little spicier, but the server also brought us a couple hot sauces. I've been coming here since they opened in 2009? I've finally decided that it would be best to give five stars for consistency throughout the years. I can't tell you how many times I have had the Starbelly Bacon. It is my most favorite pizza on the menu and perhaps in all of the Castro neighborhood. I never thought I would actually enjoy raw arugula as a pizza topping. Perhaps, the bacon makes the arugula palatable. The service is, over the years, the same: fast, friendly, and very attentive, which by extension includes the bartenders. The drink menu has changed over the years to cater to the fashion of the times, and I can say that the bartenders are good at what they do. I've never had a bad drink here! Depending on when you go, it can be very busy: Friday nights are loud and late Sunday afternoon is chill and quiet. The decor has changed little since they opened. The aesthetics of 2009 is holding up well. The seating at the patio is best during warm sunny afternoons on the weekend and the rare warm evenings. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and had the four-course dinner for restaurant week :) I was glad to see that they had veggie options. Everything was great! I particularly enjoyed the new starbelly salad, it had all of my favorite ingredients. The carrot soup was also very healthy and didn't fill me up too much considering we still had two more courses to go. My friend enjoyed her plate of pǎté that came with bread, an onion marmalade, and mustard. For the main course, I got the spaghetti made to be vegetarian and my friend got the pot pie. Both courses were amazing! For dessert I got the toffee cake with dates and mascarpone, and my friend got the caramel pot de crème with rosemary cookies. It was lovely having a little bit of everything, we were very satisfied. We were sat in the back patio, which didn't feel too crowded. Still one of my favorite spots in the city--Starbelly never disappoints. On our most recent visit, we had the rigatoni, the bacon pizza, and the salmon, and all three dishes were excellent. The rigatoni was rich and comforting, the pizza had the perfect balance of crisp and flavor, and the salmon was cooked beautifully. Went for a Second time in the last few months today- Thursday March 19th- the service was so slow, drinks didn't arrive before we even ate and the veggie burger was dry and crispy, fries poor. One server for the whole restaurant is not enough. The barman was painfully slow mainly because he spent most of his time chatting up a customer at the bar instead of doing his job. We came on a Saturday morning and that was great. There was ample street parking within walking distance. Once we walked in the restaurant was clean and I loved the decor. We sat on the outdoor patio which is really lush and green but not too cold because they have space heaters. Our server was super friendly. The brunch was great. The location is the best part of Starbelly; it's got space for both small and large groups and is just around the corner from a fun night out in the Castro. The food was good, it was -- but definitely nothing particularly inspiring or exciting. The prix fixe menu had high expectations from the descriptions, and while the steak and dumplings were delicious, the desserts were a bit meh and the large amount of steamed cactus got a bit monotone. The part that we wish had gone better was the service. The waiter was lovely, but he was clearly overwhelmed -- it seemed he was the only one waiting on the back tables, as it was evident in the long wait time to order a cocktail, followed by the long wait time to order dinner, followed by waiting nearly an hour for the entrees. Again, it wasn't that the staff was bad -- he was really kind -- but it was just frustratingly slow. Some of my fave dishes: -chicken liver pate, always -fries -dungeness crab Burrata dumplings so good I wanna cry (seasonal though I think they're all good) -pork chop -burgers (incl the veggie!) -seasonal pizza Their HH is great too - we've picked up a couple cocktails heading into dinner. I'm partial to the Dr's Orders and my partner is a Starbelly Manhattan. The $20 burger + cocktail deal is a no-brainer if looking for something more filling! Desserts here aren't really my jam - skew too sweet for me - but for a bite or 2 the toffee cake and pot de creme are decadent and satisfying. Inside or heated patio is both great, but I always choose patio as a bit of a luxury when I can. Dog friendly! I can usually get a res on pretty short notice, even for a group, and I know it's a crowd pleaser so it's an easy choice. Almost all the staff is seriously LOVELY but last couple times we've had off encounters at the bar that are always redeemed by everyone else through the night. read more

Popped in to Starbelly with a friend to meet for happy hour last Friday. Their happy hour is M-F and Sunday 3:30-6. They offer a pretty great happy hour menu selection! I really loved the Starbelly Manhattan cocktail - perfect blend of bourbon, sweet vermouth, and bitters. It was cool and rainy outside so the warm flavors were perfect. We also enjoyed the order of fries. Fries were thin cut, relatively fresh and crispy, and came with three tasty sauces- ketchup, a more mayo based one, and then a green crema style one (avocado maybe? Or lime?). Solid experience for happy hour and good value. A neighboring order included the burger and it looked spectacular- so that's for next time! Service was overall good. Luckily, the bartender (darker hair, cleaner cut) was very attentive, friendly, and crafted great cocktails with like a true artist. However, our visit started off a little rocky as the another gentleman who "greeted" us- was less than warm and welcoming. There were clearly two seats at the bar in between two other patrons and we asked to sit at the bar. He reacted put-off and said, "well, if there's space in between those two." The restaurant is casual and homey with lots of wood finishes. While the restaurant was not terribly busy, the bar area was lively with lots of activity during HH, but not noisy. This place was mediocre at best. I really wanted to love this place but it was just alright. We ordered the loco moco, margherita pizza sub burrata, french toast, and the chicken liver pate. None of the dishes we had were very special. However, with 3 people we did finish all the dishes except the French toast. The loco moco was a pretty small dish, while the French toast was bigger than expected. The chicken liver pate was not on the menu given but we saw another table have it so we asked about it. After we asked, the waiter said he would check on it. After 10 minutes, he came back and set the dish on our table. No confirmation whatsoever. We didn't mind though because we did want it. So for future reference, always ask if you want a dish and it's not on their menu but make sure you're sure about it! Next, they must have been very busy because no one came to take our order down for 15 minutes. I had to flag someone down for them to take my order. So keep in mind during busy days, the service will not be amazing. Their inside area and patio area is very pretty though. read more

Cute back patio space for groups looking for a light bites/tapas style dinner with crafty cocktails! Came through with some friends for dinner and drinks on a weekday. We made easy reservations via Yelp and didn't have to wait. Give yourself extra time to find parking if you're driving, as Starbelly is located in a 5-way intersection. We all got confused on which direction to walk. Surprisingly, we didn't have to wait and we didn't see anyone else in line when we rolled up. They're dog-friendly in their back patio, and it's not extremely spacious but can fit a few groups. No outdoor heaters, but it stayed pretty warm despite the cool and slightly windy weather. We went ham on ordering the dishes, started with their fries with 3 dip sampler, burrata with grilled peaches (such a summery delight!), thai basil sausage, crab burrata dumplings (#1 pick, but so sad it was over in one bite), grilled steak with peanut matcha dressing (holy smokes, this was the most special and definitely a favorite with the sweetness of plantains and grilled onions) and roasted corn cilantro pizza. The drinks were FIRE, and so well presented...check da photos. Food was def on point! Wish we could eat this good and with this much variation all the time. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny, definitely on the $$$'s list, and portion sizes aren't big at all. I would say their evening menu is more a tapas style vs big entree vibe. Regardless, we had such a fun night with great convo, professional service, and constant water-refills without having to flag our server down. Noise was a bit louder when all of the tables were full, as the patio tables are close together. But a quick peek indoors looked more romantic/chill with the dim lighting. The food runners were so great, smiley, and honestly way more involved with our table compared to our server. Shoutout to the guy who went the extra mile to get my pup a bowl of water!
