I heard about Starbird and was excited to try it. I'm not sure if I ordered the wrong thing but my experience with the food was sub par. I ordered a 3 piece tenders and tried the BBQ and star sauce. The fries were pretty bland and boring. They weren't seasoned and kind of just existed there. For the sauces, the BBQ was sweet and similar to wingstop. I'm not sure if I had a bad batch for the star sauce but it tasted like they juiced an onion and then added cream to it. To the chicken tenders, they were just okay. The fry texture was light and slightly crunchy. Sadly the chicken was slightly dry as well. I came to the Sunnyvale location earlier for dinner with my wife and had a great experience. We usually come here on the weekends, but I wanted to take the time to leave a review to acknowledge the excellent work of this store. We drive all the way from Milpitas, and the food is always consistently fresh and delicious, matched by great customer service. Today the store was very busy and appeared to be short handed, but the team handled it extremely well. I was especially impressed by the manager's leadership and delegation skills. I saw him actively teaching and supporting a young front of house team member while also running operations and multitasking efficiently in a very high-volume environment. This location is always busy, and it's clear the team works hard to maintain quality and service. Great job to the Sunnyvale team, keep up the excellent work. Ordered online for pick up after hearing positive things about it! It was ready by the time we picked up, and the person who helped us get our order was nice and friendly. It's located on a busy street and can be easy to miss (I drove past a little too quickly and missed the entrance haha, I speak from personal experience!). The establishment is suuuuper nice from the outside, especially at night! We ordered a 3 box tender combo and a lil cluck. I had the lil cluck myself since I wasn't too hungry, and it was the perfect amount! Fries were a little soggier than I hoped for, but the chicken had a good crisp and crunch to it. Starbird is a fast casual chain with high quality fried chicken, sauces, and sides. I ordered take out from here recently and was very pleased with my choice. I ordered a classic tender box which had 4 chicken tenders in it, fries, slaws and your choice of two sauces. You may order additional sauces at an extra charge. I chose all fries for my box since I am not a big fan of slaw and the sauces I picked were honey chipotle bbq and chipotle aioli. Both sauces were delicious and the chicken was juicy inside with a nicely salted and peppered breading. Fries were good as well. The Asian salads are both good, with yummy dressings. I am not as much a fan of the Green Goddess salad dressing on their Cobb-like salad. My husband got the Nashville hot sandwich and it was so good! I'll definitely make my chicken Nashville hot in any way I get it next time, as it is a spicy seasoning added to the top. I rarely post reviews. An establishment's service or quality of food has to be so dire, so horrible, or exceptionally above and beyond a positive experience for me to leave a review. This repeated experience is such an occurrence of bad/horrible service. I used their mobile app to place my order, which is sufficient and not the problem. The problem is that after using their app (more than once) and providing a pre-20% tip (before receiving food/order), my experience has been a repeated incomplete order. However, this time was worse and bad enough to cause for this review. Upon my arrival for pickup, I approached the pickup counter, showed my phone (their text message for proof of order), was told (after fifteen minutes of searching) my order was already given away. The immediate disappointment being (besides not having my order ready) no (non-existent) communication was offered in the form of an apology or accountability for their mistake. Then, an extra fifteen minutes (because they had to scroll back in their queue to find my exact order) was tacked on to determine what would be done to remedy their mistake. They did not ask me what I would like done, such as offering a refund or if I'd be willing to wait for my order to be remade. Instead, just offering (facial) expressions of being dumbfounded. Because of my dinner circumstances and the hour in the evening, I instructed them to remake my order and could they expedite it (move it to the head of the queue). Two staff members told me they could remake my complete order and start it right away. That "right away" took an extra thirty minutes added to all of the noted duration of time listed above. Now what triggered this review was, when we arrived home and began to eat our specific sandwiches, the extra items (cheese and avocado) were missing from the sandwich and the BBQ sauces for the wings were absent. Usually, I would forgive a first-time mistake, but this is the second time of experiencing an incomplete order. Additionally, the degree and severity of an extreme lack of customer service demanded I write this review/experience. From my experience, you take a chance ordering from this establishment. I was in town staying across the street for work, and came across this place on Yelp. I'm a huge fan of chicken sandwiches but opted to go the healthier route. I placed a pickup order online for a chicken chop salad because it looked pretty appetizing and Yelp pictures showed a pretty decent amount of chicken. The online ordering process was very easy on their website with great customizable options. I added the option to make the chicken "Nashville hot" for an extra $1.00, and when I got my bowl, it looked like they just threw seasoning on top. I would have thought a little more effort would be utilized, perhaps toss the cut chicken in a bowl with the seasoning to get it evenly coated or something? So that was a bummer. I also thought there were going to be a bit more chicken pieces as I've seen in some other photos. Another negative I was extremely sad about was that they forgot my avocado mash, as shown in the picture on the website. Was really looking forward to that, this was probably my biggest disappointment. Another negative was that I placed a no pepitas option, but still found various pieces throughout my salad. It's not a big of a deal but if I was allergic I'd be pretty disappointed. Overall, I placed this joint at a 3.5 stars, leaned towards rounding it down to 3 stars, because of the lack of quality control. I ended up rounding up to 4 stars because the chicken salad and chipotle lime vinaigrette were tasty, and the salad tasted fresh but I'm just so disappointed in a few things that could have brought this to five stars. Started out loving Starbird, but over time they have just gone downhill. First they got rid of the tacos. Then the sandwich size got cut in half (for the same price, mind you). First time trying Starbird Chicken and overall I thought it was pretty good for fast food style fried chicken. This location is in Sunnyvale, and I believe this is the current closest location to me. I'm in the East Bay, and we currently do not have a Starbird. Honestly, the price is on the high side for fast food fried chicken, but with inflation these days and the costs of meats and poultry, it's totally understandable the high pricing. We ordered the Classic Buffalo & Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings and 3 Sweet Thai Tender Box and everything was very good. Freshly made to order and very tasty! The customer service was pretty decent as well, they were tentative to your needs whenever you asked them for anything, they were happy to provide them. The restaurant and parking lot is quite small, so it does get crowded from time to times, but I would recommend giving this place a try for sure! read more

I've been going here for years and my go-to is the chicken chop. I would have easily given Starbird a 4 star review. Unfortunately, they've lost my trust and business after tonight's delivery. I ordered my usual and what they gave me was this old, brown, diarrhea looking avocado that could have easily made me sick had I ate it. I don't understand how they could see that their food looked like this and still decide it was ok to serve it and package it up for a customer to consume. I immediately contacted DoorDash customer service to complain. This is the first time I've ever had to contact support due to poor quality of the food that was delivered. Luckily, they gave me a full refund on my entire order and not just the salad (I ordered a sandwich for my dad too), so that was kind of DoorDash. I wanted to make sure that Starbird gets this review of the slop they served me. If you read the one star reviews, you'll see this is not a one-off occurrence of this Starbird location. I really enjoyed my meal here! My only complaint really is that the parking lot is really small and so I can see it being hard to park there if it's really busy. You order first and then they call your order for pick up. We ordered the Nashville Hotbird meal and then we ordered a Korean taco. The Korean taco is very simple and had a fried chicken tender on it with some veggies. The Nashville hotbird wasn't too spicy and there was a great ratio of batter to chicken. I know they are well known for the fried chicken sandwiches, but while I was looking through the menu, their SALADS caught my eye. First off, the portion for this salad was HUGE. I was very surprised! Lots of fresh veggies and nicely chopped fried chicken. Let me start with the veggies: fresh lettuce, cabbage, cucumbers, edamame, green onions, and red pickled daikon. All these ingredients make for the PERFECT Asian style salad. I particularly liked the tangy crunch from the red pickled daikon and the refreshing crisp from the cucumbers. The Creamy Ginger dressing was DELISH. It was slightly sweet and very creamy. The wonton strips added that extra crunch that I LOVE. Now the star of the dish: the chicken. It was PERFECTLY fried. It was crispy, the batter was flavorful, the chicken itself was juicy, I could go on and on. It went PERFECTLY with the salad and the dressing. And the katsu sauce drizzled on the chicken gave it that extra pop of flavor. If this is what their chicken is like for all their other dishes, I am very excited to try them! My favorite was definitely the chicken chop salad suprisingly! The chicken in the salad was great quality. So juicy and tasty. The dressings were delicious and I loved all the toppings in it. It was also huge and super filling. The chicken is great here. I've also tried the california roll salad and their churros the second time I came here which were great as well. The California roll salad has a wasabi dressing that isnt too overbearing but I wouldnt recommend if youre not a fan of wasabi. Sandwich is moderately sized, so if you're really hungry get some fries. Or add some uumph by getting the Free Range sandwich, which is crispy chicken with bacon in it. The chicken tenders are perfect as well. If you don't want to dilute your chicken by dressing it in a sandwich. Lots of great sauces to choose from. The buffalo sauce is zesty, and the aioli always pleases. Surprisingly the salad choices here are great too. The lettuce and toppings are fresh, and the salad types are interesting. The latest favorite we get is the basic Chicken Chop, which is kind of a southwestern avocado/corn/tortilla combo. Kind of like a chipotle salad, but with awesome chicken sprinkled on top. Either grilled or fried, the chicken tastes great. Starbird also caters to our office. They have good deals on sandwich platters and chicken tender platters. One notable side dish they offer is the Super Slaw, made with kale. Its crunchy, got a mix of veggies in it, and is full of kale goodness. Everything is done through their website. One final note. Their website and app are good in concept. You can order ahead and the food will be ready for you. But the usability is not that good. The manager mentioned to me that they're redoing it, but I guess a good app takes time to develop. So if you can get it to work, I definitely recommend it to skip the line. read more

Disclaimer - I tried the Brokaw location of Starbird and didn't like the overly heavy sauces there, and the corporate office contacted me and asked me to give them another try. So I tried their two recommended dishes at this Sunnyvale location - the Big Star sandwich and the Classic Tenders. I waited 22 minutes for my food here (which is cray for a fast food restaurant), and went up to the counter to ask what was taking so long. The cashier seemed confused and said it was going to be a few more minutes. Then the manager found my order hiding on the counter, but nobody rang my buzzer. Big Star Sandwich - Compared to the Tokyo Katsu sandwich I had at the Brokaw location (which was covered in an inedible katsu sauce), the Big Star sandwich has a balanced Thousand Island-ish sauce with some pickles and lettuce (reminding me of a Big Mac) on a healthy tasting bun. It's a satisfying sandwich if you're in the mood for a light meal. Classic Tenders - Compared to the salty dry Korean Glazed tenders I had at the Brokaw location, these classic tenders were moist inside, with a mild non-greasy flavoring. The fries were slightly soggy but at least they weren't as overly salted as the Brokaw location. The super slaw wasn't as good as the Brokaw location - mostly overly large pieces of kale, with a few pieces of cabbage and carrots. It's no wonder that these two are their most popular menu items - they both let the fried chicken speak for itself. Ok so this place is fire!!! Felt like chicken and a salad so I got both! Salad was big and fresh and delicious. I have had the Starbird Sandwich over a dozen times. The food is generally delicious, but the consistency and the service definitely need improvement. The size of the chicken tenders vary widely from small to extra large. When I pay full-price for a sandwich I expect to receive a full-size sandwich, not a sandwich that is two-thirds the size. I have complained directly to the workers in the restaurant as well as to the corporate office via email. They need to work with their suppliers to provide a consistent product or else they need to sell by the ounce. The flavor and texture of the food has been absolutely delicious 99% percent of the time. The chicken and other ingredients are natural and fresh. The fried chicken, kale slaw, avocado spread, and bun usually taste amazing. Last week, unfortunately, I had the worst sandwich ever. The chicken was small, thin, and rubbery. It was so gross that I could not finish it for the first time ever. Also, when ordering the 4-piece tenders, the fourth tender is ALWAYS a tiny piece of chicken. I've been to this location a few times. It's pretty nice on the inside, but the parking lot is a little small. There's plenty of seating inside and some extra outdoor seating near the entrance. I usually get one of the salads, which are made with fresh ingredients and come with great dressings. I have also tried their tenders, which are delicious as well. Their chicken is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and is not greasy at all. For the price, this place can't be beat! It is a pretty affordable meal, and the food comes out really quick.
