This is a pretty regular/basic location that provides a pretty regular Starbucks experience. Years ago, I came here almost daily, and almost daily, I was significantly annoyed by how terrible my drinks turned out. However, the staff was always super nice and accommodating. One time, I even had a drink remade like four times here before they got it right. These days, the crew is still nice. I don't go as often and my drinks, when I do go, tend to be a bit better than they used to be. This morning, I did have to have a drink remade, and after it was remade, it tasted exactly the same as it did the first time, which was not great. However, I have definitely had worse, and I've definitely been to locations where they were not as willing to remake it or had an issue with doing so. read more

Let's begin so after a wonderful workout I decided to treat myself to one of my favorite drinks. It was ten minutes to seven and no customers. The store was fairly clean and all of merchandise was organize. As I approached the counter I was greeted by a pleasant plus sized women. I requested a grande mocha cookie crumple frap no whip. While the women prepared my drink she entertained a man that didn't appear to be a customer. I suspect he was a ladies man or a backroom manager. Moving forward, she presented my drink and my happiness slowly faded. One there was whip cream. I felt the urge to speak up but who wants to be that person who ask for a new drink. I take my first sip and well the beverage was basically liquid ice shards. By this time I was merging onto 95 north. With every sip I am crushing ice with my teeth or it is clumping together in the straw. My drink turned into chocolate water as the ice melted. It was extremely hard to finish. I ordered a simple double shot of espresso. It is my order everywhere I go. I bunch of people came in after me but I should have been good, right, Nope! Five of the seven people after me and the person before me are all served their complicated orders. I inquire about mines and they literally don't have it and they act annoyed with me. It's a semi-commuter Sbux meaning it's on a busy road (US-1 South / N. Henry in Old Town) and it closes early (7pm). I've always had good luck parking on Pendleton Street and zooming in for my coffee on the way to the beltway. This location has tables and it's comfortable. The great thing about this place are the tables that enable those the space who would like to do work. However, the volume of the music was somewhat irritating and I found it difficult to concentrate. I ordered the caramel frapuccino and a slice of banana nut bread. The employees working behind the counter were friendly and you could tell that they liked working there. The Frapuccino took just a couple of minutes to prepare, and it was delicious. The banana nut bread seemed a little over-priced, but it tasted good! Also there is some limited parking across the street, but I think that it's mostly geared for the walking community. This is an okay star bucks, good for picking up an online order and moving along, fast. The place is generally clean, so that's not an issue. The lack of comfortable seating and cramped waiting space tells you that this is an in and out kind of Starbucks meant for pedestrian traffic; the lack of drive-thru really dampers the ability to get a quick coffee on the way to work for car commuters. My husband also noticed Penny's change in attitude when she happily greeted the customer behind us in line. It was like night and day! About average for locations in Old Town and around the city. - The speakers here sound like they were removed from a 1967 VW Bug. Very 'tin' sounding, which gets very irritating. At 0923 James Brown's "Say it Loud" came over the speakers. Now I love the hardest working man in show business as much as anyone, but not this way. The James Brown estate has a case to sue this Starbucks for defamation of character for how they represent his songs over these speakers. Ugh. - Needs a serious broom sweep, or at least pick up the straw wrappers and napkins in the back seating area. - Some of the traditional leather couches could use a general wipe down, especially in the winter months with all the additional grime from the snow and rain we've had. I typically stop at this Starbucks on the way to work in the morning. The guys who make the expresso drinks are truly great - timely, efficient, polite. They get 5 stars. It's the rather grumpy lady behind the register that gets 2 stars. She often rings my drinks up incorrectly, is abrupt to a fault, and gets side-tracked talking with customers she likes which causes the line to quickly spill out the door. I've seen her argue with customers to make a point, and when she gets an order wrong she complains to the baristas when they try to fulfill the correct order. I can typically find easy street parking. Plus there is a Bikeshare station out front now. If I ever miss sourpuss I will have several ways to come see her. I went to this Starbucks on 8/30/15 for a latte and a late breakfast. Although, this Starbucks has limited seating and parking (had no trouble finding parking because it was late on a Sunday morning) it is receiving high marks from me for one reason, their ability to help me navigate the Starbucks app. The Starbucks app kept telling me that I had earned a free beverage but nowhere on the Starbucks app does it navigate you where to find a code to redeem it. The Barista was super patient with me (granted there was little to no line) and didn't seem bother at all by my lack of technology savvy. They even suggested I get a venti because after all it was "on the house". In a nutshell, great customer service at this location and if were closer to home I'd go back more often. read more

I always find this Starbucks incredibly busy, especially on Saturday mornings. However, the staff is always friendly and efficient and getting your coffee is quickly as possible. If the drink isn't to your liking, which is rare, they take it back and fix it without a complaint. It's got a cozier atmosphere than most, which makes it nice to catch up with old friends. The large table in the back is kind of cool. If there is room, you sit there, and it's expected by the party already occupying it. It reminds me of a bit of European coffee shops. read more

The shift supervisor (I think) confronted him about his mistakes and for throwing the ticket/stickers with the orders printed in the garbage, and he was argumentative with her in front of customers, it was unprofessional of him. Seemed like this is a recurrent situation with this employee. There seems to be a steady crowd that comes through here on the way to the train which makes it a convenient location however, the staff can't seem to keep up with managing ebb and flow of customers. When there is a lengthy lull, they stand around having a loud conversation where the topic of refilling condiments, milk or cleaning even one of the ten or so dirty tables is ever broached. You know, it's fine. It's Starbucks. I have some favorite drinks there. And it's within walking distance to my house. And in the end, the actual product, their drinks, are fine. I haven't been unhappy. But I agree with other reviewers. If you are a local and/or frequent customer, you really are treated much differently. That isn't necessarily bad - don't we all talk a bit more with those whom we are most familiar? The problem is some of the employees - I hate to say this, mostly the women - are really grumpy/grouchy. I don't require someone asking me how my day is/how my kids are, but center of unhappy/unfriendly would be nice. And, strangely, I agree with another reviewer - the guys are outgoing, hospitable. While there is no parking lot, you can usually find spots along Henry Street. There are a few spots - but often taken - along Pendleton, which runs alongside the Starbucks. There is limited seating, which is almost always taken by folks w/ their laptops. There are also a few outdoor tables, too (three, maybe?). As a parent, I'd never take my stroller in there (heck, I rarely bring my kids with me). But I feel fine leaving it outside the store, out of the way. read more

It's sad to see so many bad reviews of this particular location. Apparently some people don't know how to review establishments. Some people have one bad experience and post their review solely based on that one visit. Shame. This location is in fact the best Starbucks location I've ever been to. All the staff are absolutely great, and have excellent customer service skills. I first started going to this location back in January of this year, left the area for nearly eight months and just yesterday I came back. I was actually surprised to find that about half the staff that I knew of back in January are still working there now. That in itself may not mean much to many people, but to me it was nice being able to see many of the same staff. It was almost as though I had never even left. I was greeted as though I had been an every day regular. Kudos to the staff there because for me, that's what makes a great, warming and inviting environment to continue coming back. I have never rated a Starbucks before, let alone any other coffee shop because after all, it's a coffee shop, not a real restaurant.
