This place used to be one of my favorite coffee shops in the east bay. Then they hired a terrible designer to give what they apparently thought was an upgrade. But now it's lost all charm and character. We used to go out of our way to visit the place but now we'll go just about anywhere else. Extremely unprofessional behavior displayed by a man named James, I believe. I went in for my drink, expected it to be ready because it said so on the app, and when it wasn't I asked why. Thats where James comes in, he tells me it's not ready yet; however, im in a hurry so I wait...and wait...and then they begin to clean instead of doing my drink, so I have to tell him again; he gave me this demeaning look, like I interrupted his work. I eventually got my drink. 1/10 would not recommend, also the tables were dirty and multiple dishes didn't look to be washed, which lines up from their last health inspection violation. read more

Went to this Starbucks a few weeks ago. An elderly woman with a walker and a caregiver ordered behind me. Place was full with one person and chair at the little tables working on their laptops. One woman using 2 tables for 3 kids. When this elderly, disabled woman's drink were ready there was no place to sit. I went up to the desk and informed them of the situation. They did nothing. Finally the woman and caregiver asked for a refund on their drinks and left. Sad situation... They should have tried to accommodate them. If an able bodied person was at a disabled table, they should have asked them to move. Clearly not enough chairs either. Obviously no such thing as respect from the customers either unless they get credit in social media! Starbucks could have at least comped their drinks instead of pouring them down the drain!!! read more

A Starbucks across the street from Safeway that doesn't have one inside. I will say that having a Starbucks that isn't inside Safeway is good. I will say that the restroom does not have a code to enter which is good because I was in desperate need to use the restroom and I should had used the restroom inside Safeway. I order a Honey Citrus Mint Tea from this location. It wasn't a bad drink. The display of the bakery item was presented well. I was greeted when I came inside the Starbucks and greeted when I pick up my drink. I didn't do an in person order which I can not say anything about the service. All I could say that the inside of the Starbucks was good. A good place to have a conversation with someone there. I am still going to give this place a five star review due to my experience of coming here. read more

Management here can't staff properly, and is obviously worse at training them. Poor baristas always look like they're going to emotionally implode! I would highly advise you not to come to this Starbucks location. The way the store manager (Alex) treats their employees is rude, creates an unsafe work environment, and has proven detrimental to this location. having been here multiple times, the baristas and shift supervisors have appeared exhausted, overworked, stress, and understaffed due to behaviors/actions from Alex. The only positive experiences I have had at this location were while shift supervisors, Hannah and Sammy were working. They were kind, super helpful and patient with the customers I'd seen them speak with. The support that I saw them give to other customers, the baristas, and each other is how I believe ALL Starbucks employees should act. If you care about getting your coffee/drinks from somewhere that cares about their people (customers and employees included) I suggest you go to a different location. I do not understand the practice of putting a simple cup of black coffee in a production line with 8 complex Starbucks beverages. No one loves a systematic process more than I, but it is a logical to make someone wait 11 minutes for something that it takes 11 seconds to do. I would like to like it here but I don't. I come here often to study in between my breaks for work, and I've noticed every time I come in I don't get greeted. This wouldn't be a problem tbh if they treated other customers the same but every customer who comes in after me gets welcomed nicely. This happens every single time I come in. My partner unexpectedly visited me today while I was studying and they greeted him as well. We then left to grab something at Safeway and came back right after and there was still no greeting at all. I'm posting this because as employees in customer service, all customers should be treated equally and hopefully the owners read this to bring it to their attention. I've been to this location multiple times and had nothing but fantastic experiences. Starbucks, in general, are usually on top of it. This location has friendly staff, good tunes and in a great location. The scones and breakfast sandwiches have always been fresh and tasty. Keep it up, Orinda Starbucks! read more

I think this place is okay on service and their drinks are okay. Their service is pretty good here in terms of trying to be swift, but there have been times when you have to wait longer than you should. As for cleanliness, it is clean here and there but the tables that they have to offer for you to sit down on can be sticky at times too. This Starbucks is just like any other location to be honest. I think I'm officially done coming here after this morning's chaos. I've started coming here for a month now because it's the closest Starbucks to my new job and it's on the way. Today I had a simple order - hot chocolate with whipped cream and a toasted bagel. I got there 10mins after I placed the order (I order while I'm in Walnut Creek bc they do take longer) and my hot cocoa was ready. I waited around another 5mins for my bagel and finally asked if I could just get it cold. By the way the employee "looked" for it, looks like it wasn't going to be ready for a while. Another customer had actually walked out upset when I got in and said "forget my bagel". When I got to the car, I noticed my hot cocoa didn't have whipped cream even though I requested extra. These are very small, simple mistakes, but when they happen consistently, it gets annoying. Looks like I'll be going to the other Starbucks farther out with a drive-thru from now on. read more

I stopped into this location after a long absence and found that they had a new crew and a newer look to the store. The weekday afternoon line was short probably due to the fact that there were two cashiers ringing up customers and three baristas making drinks. I was glad to witness Melissa, who was one of the cashiers, providing excellent customer service to a gentleman who needed additional items for his order. When I placed my order with her, Melissa was welcoming and friendly and was helpful with selecting my green tea. She also happily bagged the particular baked good that I selected from the case. This location is one of my faves in the east bay. Very clean, modern, moderately crowded but you can always find a seat. The service is speedy and accurate. Plenty of parking across in the shopping center and on the street. Bathrooms are clean. read more

Review #162 - 2016 Lately it seems that this place has not been as great as what I have come to expect from our local Starbucks. The few times that I used the mobile app to place an order, it took longer than I actually expected even though it wasn't that busy. The two times I sent the kids in to pick up the drinks, they encountered some kind of confusions. The first time, the 2 kids waited about 15 minutes for 3 drinks even though the app said that my drinks were ready before I even showed up to the store. The person who made the drinks also mistakenly called for "Shirley" so the kids waited another 3 minutes and realized that the drinks were made for Sivilay. The second time, the 3 kids went in to pick up 4 drinks and the barista told them that they only had 3 drinks even though the labels specifically showed 1 of 4 so I had to send them back in to grab my drink. Hopefully, these simple mistakes will be fixed next time I order again... read more

The people in the store (David, who seems to be there every time, stands out) as courteous and genuinely kind and helpful - even when the place is crazy busy, as it often is. What's the point of ordering your drink exactly how you want it if the girl with the multi colored hair is in bar? No point. I ordered a venti, iced, sugar free vanilla latte with cold foam. Of course, no cold foam so I just let her know that I ordered it (even though it was already written on the cup) and she very rudely told me to take the lid off, twice. Welp, I am about half way done and realize there's NO VANILLA SYRUP. Yeah, if she's on bar the next time I go, I will absolutely be requesting that anyone else make it because the others are great. read more

Goth girl at the register. 9.8/10 I recently stopped by this Starbucks on my way back to SF, and the goth girl at the register captivated me. Her pale latina skin resembled the ever so familiar signature milky white color of the coconut milk I replace the standard cow juice with. She looked entirely unimpressed with my attempts to get her attention and diligently continued to help the customers in line. .2 stars deducted for lack of reaction for my CLEARLY impressive arachnid collection. As if you'll ever see another Luzon Peacock Swallowtail preserved THIS well in a comical faux jungle shadowbox. I have my doubts about her credibility as a "goth." Although as a Starbucks barista she seems very capable. The store was also pretty clean despite how busy it was. There should also be more vegan options but "Starbucks" has made it very clear they don't care. read more

There is sooooo much room for improvement at this store for the mobile orders. I have to order 15 mins in advanced for this store, no other store that i use, do I wait this long. Once I get to the store all 4 staff is working away and not bothering to announce mobile order pick up names. there's no organization on how to pick up a mobile order. Do we just stand there, which I tested and 3 times I waited 5-7 mins until someone asked if I was there for pick up. DUH!!! Why else would I be there? Am i supposed to announce I'm there for mobile pick up? Do I cut in front of everyone else that's been waiting for their mobile order too? This was my first time coming in during the afternoon on a weekend. I usually mobile order on weekdays and don't receive any problems. However today, I decided to step in and just order at the register. Walking-in I was not greeted which was not typical for them. I ordered a Tall Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew and a vanilla bean scone. The lady that was helping me, didn't get name (African lady with curly black hair slicked back with grey sweater) was very rude and had attitude when I asked her to warm my scone. She informed me in a sharp tone that they don't warm up the scones.. I told her I always get it warmed and never have a problem. She then repeated herself and used unnecessary hand gestures stating they don't warm it up. I don't see the problem, so I asked again and she forcefully grabbed the scone from the case. I called her out as to why she has attitude and if she doesn't like her job then go somewhere else. It was uncalled for and regardless if they normally do or do not do, it's my order and it's how I want it.. Then of course my drink wasn't correct, and tasted like a cold brew with regular half & half... really upsetting when you're already on the freeway drinking it. Got kicked out at 7pm on the dot! First time at this location. Here to see a friend playing at Orinda playhouse down the street. Thank goodness I had already ordered my coffee, retrieved it and used the bathroom! Yes it's a sleepy town, but 7pm?! A bit surprised they had Starbucks napkins in the paper towel dispenser in the bathroom too. Not a good idea considering they don't substitute for actual paper towels. Coffee was ok, service was rushed, obviously, although I was a bit oblivious until they asked me to leave because they told me they were closed as soon as I grabbed my coffee. Absolutely the WORST starwhores of all times. The barista was so rude it was almost like a movie. I couldn't believe it was real life!!!! I went to Starbucks in Orinda last Friday on 11/19 and it was very chaotic. The ladies were working hard but it was clear they had not received training, were not working as a team and did not have clear roles and responsibilities. For example there 30 people were waiting and the pastry's were piling up waiting for pick up, many people ordered black coffee and were waiting for pick up, typically the cashier will give the coffee at the time of order since it's an easy order, perhaps the coffee was out. Again, the staff was trying, but they need leadership. After 40 minutes I walked out without my black coffee, I had already paid, I brought to their attention twice, but they were confused. There were people there ahead of me and they were still waiting too. Please help the team be successful, you're lucky to have staff but no one wants to work in a chaotic setting. I am hoping this gets the team the help they need, service in the past has been good and perhaps the team and owners are new. read more

There's nothing really wrong with the Starbucks itself... great location, not too crowded, and they recently expanded to add more tables and power outlets, so it SHOULD be great for bringing your laptop and getting some work done... BUT... The baristas here treat this place like they're working in a bar. They work fast and get your order to you fast enough, but while I'm sitting here trying to work - WITH HEADPHONES ON - they are so busy slamming plastic containers and lids or tubs around and into sink basins, that even the blenders seem quiet compared to the noise. They also converse with each other at volumes far beyond necessary, shouting when they could easily just talk at a normal volume, as if they were in a club or something. It's extremely annoying. The manager here would be doing us all a service by teaching the staff to make and serve drinks without raising the decible level above the point of damaging customers' ears! Maybe the staff has too much caffeine in their system, but this is a coffee shop - not a seedy dive bar. And a former barista just came by to visit - the entire staff just went crazy, shouting and blah-blah-blahing at the top of their lungs. They DO think they work in a bar. This is nuts!
