Such a great little Starbucks and in such a great location. We were in town just seeing the sites and doing some shopping when we decided coffee was much needed to kill the time. Everything else was either closed or just opening and this Starbucks looked so inviting. The baristas are all really great and nice! And they make the drinks to standard which is awesome :) we've been to a few where the drinks taste a little different or off and they seem to do everything right here! Store is small but cozy and nice to hang out in when you need a break from walking or a warm spot to enjoy your coffee. Would definitely come back! read more

This Starbucks location can be found on the corner, down the street from the Betsy Ross House. My husband and I came by here after visiting the Betsy Ross House last Thursday afternoon, around 4:25 pm. There were definitely plenty of people inside waiting for their orders and only one person ahead of us in line. We ended up ordering: Teavana Shaken Iced Passion Fruit Green Tea Lemonade, $2.75 prior to tax- Although my husband asked for a grande size, the employee rang him up for a tall size. I didn't have any since I am not a big fan of passion fruit but he thought this drink was good. Mango Dragonfruit Starbucks Refreshers, $4.95 prior to tax- The girl at the register didn't ask for the size but automatically rang us up for a grande size. I thought this drink was refreshing, especially on the hot we were there. I liked the pieces of the dragonfruit, it was nice to eat it after I had finished drinking my beverage. ------------------------ (Total= $8.32 after tax) The employee taking our order didn't give us a receipt and when I had asked for one, she said she didn't know how to reprint one out. I am assuming she was a new employee since I saw another employee showing her around and training her. After my husband had initially ordered his iced peach green tea lemonade and paid for our order, the employee told him that they didn't have any more peach tea and to pick another flavor. The employee should have checked beforehand before charging us for the drink. My husband ended up ordering the passion fruit instead. He still thought this drink was good but he had wanted the peach flavor instead. Wait time for our drinks was over 15 minutes, which seemed like a pretty long time, compared to other Starbucks that we have been to before. A little later, I asked the barista making our drinks for water. He said okay but never gave it to me. I had to ask him again after 10 minutes and he never did. I was rather annoyed at the point. So my husband went up and asked another employee who got us 2 cups of water right away. No attitude and seemed to have a positive manner. If you have a choice, avoid this location. Please note that the unisex restroom was decently clean and adequately stocked with soap and toilet paper. read more

I have been coming here for about a year now and while everyone is friendly, they are almost always understaffed. Normally I wouldn't care if I got the wrong drink or they made it Incorrectly. But today I have had it. I spent about $14 on my order and around 6 of that was in the new Apple Crisp Oat milk latte. Let's just say that it tasted like I was drinking frothed oat milk. In the four years I've lived in this neighborhood this Starbucks is always a s**tshow. Look, Starbucks is the fast food of coffee shops. I go here instead of a locally owned place when I want to place an overly-customized order for a subpar product and then wait 20 minutes beyond the estimated pickup time to finally receive my order. Things you should know: 1) There is NOWHERE to stand and wait for your order where you are not in someone's way and it's always packed. It's awkward. It's mildly irritating. Just embrace that you're all in the same s**tshow together and deal with it I guess. 2) You are NOT allowed to ask the staff for an update on the order. You will check your mobile order on your phone 20 times to make sure you're in the right place and that your order probably did go through. But under no circumstances should you address a barista directly, even in the friendliest tone. Even if you've been waiting a half hour. It's a weird game of trust in a mobile ordering system that, in the end, will either reward you or leave you heartbroken and thirsty. Good luck. 3) Bakery items, etc, you're going to show up and they're going to tell you they're out of it. It's never good anyway, so you should actually be thankful, but consumerism is weird and you feel kind of personally victimized anyway. None of this is the staff's fault. This could be a review for any Starbucks anywhere in the US. Have you ever been to a Starbucks with a drive-thru? Forget it. Hell on Earth. (There is nothing more entitled than a suburbanite in an SUV waiting in line for a frappe before dropping their kids off at dance.) This is the textbook example of what happens when you put profit over people but charge so much customers expect some sort of ROI that the staff are not equipped to deliver because that machine keeps spitting out mobile order after mobile order. Dont know how to speak unless you are the customer they are actively serving. as someone who frequents Starbucks as well as worked in other establishments, I've never once been told that that I couldn't ask a quick question because youre "serving a customer". The staff handled a bathroom problem very well. A homeless person was in the bathroom for 15 minutes while a line kept growing. The barista politely knocked, asked if they were ok, then said please finish up as there's a line waiting. When she came back to check she nicely asked if everything was ok again. This is your standard Starbucks. What's notable about this location is the cute building it's in - since it's in the historic district in Philly. The doors to enter are super cute and it's not too busy. The downside of this location is they moved really slowly preparing drinks and food. My typical Starbucks is in the heart of Manhattan and they move significantly faster than this location. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before, but I had to for Maya! I'm a regular Starbucks patron, but have only been to this location a handful of times. I've never met such an efficient, friendly, helpful barista! She greets everyone, is very quick and helpful, and said "Have a happy Monday!" to every single person on their way out. Also, this location is super cute! It's in a beautiful building in Old City Philadelphia and has a good amount of seating. I'll definitely be coming back here more often. You know when you have a bunch of questions about something and you can tell when the person behind the counter is losing patience? Not this crew. They were happy to answer the surprising array of questions I had about their iced teas. Speaking of which, I ordered some type of berry concoction that was bright pink and fruity but very, very tart. Walk the extra block to Cafe Ole for their amazing raspberry iced tea if that's what you're jonesin' for (sorry, Starbucks). I am visiting Philadelphia for the first time in my life. It was my good fortune to find this branch. This is the best Starbucks branch I have ever been to. The staff is delightful, friendly and hip. I walked in for the first time on a hot, humid Wednesday looking like something the cat dragged in. Upon seeing me for the first time, Bianca immediately asked if I would like a cup of ice water. This kindly act set the tone for my three visits here. I met Jenna that day, too. Super friendly, she made several suggestions and recommended a great cab driver who I patronized several times during my stay. During my last day in the city we discovered we had both attended the previous day's Phillies game, and we had a nice chat about that. On my second visit to the branch I was greeted by Jason, who is super gracious. He expressed great interest and willingness to assist when I had a bit of trouble, which was almost immediately rectified, with my Internet connection. He spreads good cheer along with the coffee and is a delightful individual who sight unseen sees the goodness in people. Every Starbucks has music, coffee, food, tables, chairs and etc. What separates this store from the rest of the pack is the staff and the service they provide. There's a store manager behind all this who deserves a note of gratitude. A store this good doesn't happen by accident. I wish I could take this branch with me. My highest recommendation. read more

I got my coffee right away like after I placed my order in. The barista was making my drink as I was paying. The store was kind of packed but luckily I found a seat by the door. I got my usual drink, venti Carmel frapp and it was delicious as usual. I gave it 4 stars because the workers were talking among themselves and goofing around too much. They should be talking to their customers not amongst each other's regarding something that happened earlier in the day. Okay! I'm upgrading my review by a star to 4 stars because I had an issue with a person sleeping for hours in the coffee shop. I filed a complaint with Starbucks Customer Service and apparently they followed up on it because the person who was sleeping for hours at a time was not there any longer as of a few weeks ago, yay! I do wish that the baristas had addressed the issue instead of my needing to call the Customer Service number, anyways, I'm glad the issue was resolved! Most of the baristas are very friendly and helpful which is nice! I'm a regular fan of Starbucks so I like going to them! I'm still hesitant to upgrade my review to 5 stars because they almost never have decaf brewing so it's impossible to get a decaf unless it's a decaf Americano or on the clover press. I've asked for a pour over and they don't have a pour over system, seems bizarre and maybe the first time that I've heard that at a Starbucks! First time for everything! This is a smaller Starbucks than one usually sees, but since this is in Old City, I can't really blame the place. There's plenty of space for the merch and the little refrigerated sections, and a small cordoned off area for the line. There's hardly space for the five or so tables that dot the establishment, but if you can get a seat, they're great for people-watching because this one is on a busy corner. Drinks are much the same as every other Starbucks and the baristas here remain chirpier than any of the myriad of indie places in the neighborhood. The "bakery" area is weaker than other Starbucks--I visited around noon and all of the display food was already looking very wilted and sad. read more

Alright, I'll be that guy that reviews a Starbucks - but I'm justifying it to myself for a very simple reason. While Old City has a surfeit of attractions, it only has a few worthwhile coffee stops: Old City Coffee, Ole, and the cafe wing of Fork (down on Market Street). I want to be a champion of local businesses and in so much as I frequent local Philly favorites, there are occasions where a Pike Place fits the bill. If you have to support a corporate powerhouse, at least Starbucks - by most accounts - is a respectable company that takes care of their employees and customers. The main reason the Old City Starbucks is worth a review is because of its staff. I've visited my fair share of these corner coffee shops named in honor of Melville's masterpiece, and while I'm generally pleased with the service, this one surpasses even the Starbucks' standard. The seating is average, the drinks on par, but the service, amazing. As a side note, if you're looking for a good amount of seating, the Starbucks on 10th and Chestnut is a great location. Not to feed competitive urges, but if you're looking for a friendly, quick cup of joe, I think this Starbucks is a great option. However, if you have a little more time and a little more money, Ole is still my favorite spot in Old City. read more

Recently renovated. The pros: more modern looking, there's more fridge space to offer more non-coffee items, the baristas are still the same ones pre-renovation. There's outdoor seating now. The cons: power outlets eliminated all except for 1-2, the new furniture seems to be intentionally less comfortable to keep people from hanging out for a long amount of time. They still make the beverages in a quality way, but sadly, it is no longer the coffee shop that's designed to be a place for casual conversation. read more
