This was my first time at this new location. It has a bit more of a modern look and plenty of places to sit. The girl at the counter was very friendly, but unfortunately not all of the employees were as friendly, to include the girl making the drinks. I feel like Starbucks struggles with this. You definitely don't see the consistently great service from the earlier days of Starbucks. I ordered a Latte and was pleasantly surprised to be offered a To-Go or a Here cup, so of course I went for the Here cup. I'm not sure if there was too much milk for the shots of espresso, but I just couldn't taste the coffee. I suppose I should've told them, but I just went ahead and drank it like that. So overall, I would say I had a 3/5 experience. I can see the effort to improve Customer Service, but something was off with the coffee/milk ratio. I have been making my coffee at home in the last year and it saves me approximately $5 a day. But I am back now! If you are following, Starbucks was our "comfort" break while traveling last year in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Good to have a consistent dependable brand. Ambiance - Beautiful new location. Good size. Indoor & outdoor seating. Plenty of seating and outlets for me to write my Yelp reviews, lol. Double drive thru. Plenty of mall parking. Open 7 days a week - 5am to 9pm (7:30pm on Monday nights). Free wifi. Bathrooms available; but did not visit them. etc. Service - Okay. Greeted us when we walked in, but that was it. They seemed hard at work, mainly focused on the drive thru. Day two - Greeted us when we walked in, and they were way more friendly and engaging the second day. Price - Starbucks pricing. $3.19 + tip for my usual cup of coffee. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 1971 and being the largest coffeehouse chain in the world! #114 on the Fortune 500 list (2021). As of 2023, 38,038+ stores, and 15,873 of them in the US. 1992 IPO. 2003 Acquired Seattle's Best Coffee. 2008 Loyalty card program. 2020 Generous programs to employees due to COVID. Closed all stores except drive thru and delivery only. Paid for 30 days whether employees went to work or stayed home. Gave employees free daily meals and drinks whether they were working or not. I was welcomed by several upon entering the store a nice friendly touch to start off with. Had several ask of if I was ready to order and I walked up to a no line terminal. It was easy to use my app and use extra points so this was a very affordable experience. My beverage and nut loaf were made to order and relatively quick. It's a very convenient spot with plenty of comfortable seating and a great, relaxed vibe, but the staff is what truly makes it special. I want to give a huge shout-out to the young woman at the counter with the cool, clear-framed glasses. My mobile order was ready and correct the second I arrived, but she went above and beyond by giving me some much-needed advice for driving in the snow. I love this location! There's always a great vibe here and I love the seating. The large communal table is an excellent place to post up for a bit and hold a meeting or do some work. The staff is consistently fast and friendly, which is awesome considering the increased volume they must be seeing nowadays. It's also ALWAYS clean. I mean spotless. That's another major accomplishment and a reason I favor this place. Coffee is always hot and served quickly. I'm a pretty simple guy when it comes to that and go with black coffee. That's what made my recent experience so disappointing. It was a hot afternoon in Reno, Nevada. I was thirsty. Really thirsty. I walked into the Shayden Summit Starbucks with one simple request: a cup of water. No Frappuccino. No caramel drizzle. Just tap water. I had a dollar bill in my hand. That's it. "A cup of water is one dollar," the barista told me. That was more than I expected, but I was parched and handed him the dollar. "With tax, it's a dollar and eight cents," he said flatly. "All I have is this dollar," I replied, expecting some kind of understanding. Instead, I got, "No can do." I asked if he could take eight cents from the tip jar. "No," he said again, with the tone of a vending machine. Then came the kicker: "It's policy. We have to be consistent." So, I asked to speak with his manager, thinking surely someone with more common courtesy would do the right thing. "I am the manager," he said. And that was that. I left. Overheated, baffled, and without water. As Seth Godin would say, "People don't buy goods and services. They buy relationships, stories, and magic." What story did Starbucks sell me that day? One where a thirsty 62-year-old couldn't get a sip of water because he was eight cents short. Where's the magic in that? My wife did a little digging. Turns out, as of January 27, 2025, Starbucks updated its policy: free water is now reserved for paying customers. But--and this is crucial--it also states that baristas are empowered to use discretion. Discretion. The freedom to act with empathy. The freedom to lead with humanity. That's what this manager chose not to use. I called Starbucks Customer Service. Forty minutes later, I was promised a callback from a customer service expert. I'm still waiting. Starbucks spends millions on marketing and loyalty programs. But loyalty isn't earned through clever copy or double-star days. It's earned at the counter, in the in-between moments when the brand has a chance to behave like a human. That moment--eight cents short--wasn't about money or policy. It was about being treated with a little bit of dignity. A little humanity. Starbucks, the brand that built itself on a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment - its "third place" philosophy - fell short at the Shayden Summit Reno location. Wouldn't it have been a better approach for the manager to act with more humanity? I didn't cause a fuss or throw my weight around. I tried to be understanding and polite. Same consistent Starbucks service and quality as most Starbucks visited throughout the Northern Nevada area. This one was pretty crowded on a Sunday with a line to order. Nice place to chill when you want to get away, sip and relax. I am on a pursuit to find a bold, flavorful coffee, but I prefer local roasted to franchised brands. Located in the Summit Sierra, perfect place for shoppers to take a break. Got the ham and cheese croissant which was a small bite. F this place !! Went in to ask for a cup of water from their tap for my dog and the big massive jerk employee said they quit playing the water game. Of course when I asked what that meant he said it's a figure of speech so he made up that stupid saying. I have spent thousands of dollars like millions of people have at that evil corporation and they can't give me a cup of water that cost them nothing ?? It's a new store. They closed the old one. It's a complete mess. No seating area. Seems like there should be more seating, but there's no where to sit. Bring a blanket and a trench coat to stay warm. It's freezing. 40°F inside and 60°F outside? But there's no emotional warmth either. I can feel the selling out just walking through the door to corporate factory coffee. The old spot had charm somehow. This shifted location now feels as charming as a Chipotle. I don't think I'll ever sit in here again. Guess that's why they built a drive through, which isn't open yet. I hate this. There are local coffee shops I should've gone to. I didn't know the old location was in tear down and the new one opened. The road to the library was closed for probably very important and necessary construction and this was the fall back option. This is not my favorite Starbucks. We go here because it's convenient and close by; however, my coffee always tastes bad. Burn or just plain bitter. It's super annoying that they don't have stir sticks, sweetener packets, or creamer around for over a year and half now. I always feel like I'm annoying them when I have to ask for one of those items to complete my coffee. This Starbucks feels cold and somewhat uninviting. I saw one of the girls at the dental office with a refreshing pink drink.. asked her what it was and she said it was "The pink drink"... So I am easily influenced.. and since the hubby was in getting his check up, off I went. We haven't been to this Starbucks, so I was impressed not having to wait on a long line. I had never been to this one, and it is a good choice for stopping while in South Reno. It is bigger than the one on Mt. Rose, there is LOTS of parking (it is in the Sierra Summit Mall) and when I went (early afternoon) there was no wait. Nothing stood out as being outstanding. I have to admit I like this Starbucks. For a couple reasons. - It's one of the more comfortable starbucks in town. Lots of plush couches and chairs and plenty of seating - Great views of Mt. Rose while you're sitting there. - Clean bathrooms - I've yet to have a screwed up order (there are some other sbux in town that seem to mess 'em up) It's a Starbucks, so the beverages are standard fare. It can drive me nuts the amount of people that bring their old clunky uncharged laptops in here (the sbux on Kietzkie next to Aaron brothers is like this) and take up an entire table to update their facebook status. These "baristas" have perfected the fine art of eye contact avoidance. I ordered 2 lattes and received only one. I stood there, waiting for the 2nd one to no avail. The girls kept throwing out order after order, spilling them on the counter while calling out the names. No one asked me why I was still waiting, but of course, by not looking up they had no idea I was still there. Finally I asked where it was and the manager came over and apologized, something about a tape that only spit out one latte instead of two. He ended up making it for me. The service at this Starbucks is super slow. From the moment you walk in, you feel as if something fishy is up with the store. The glass on the front door is cracked with no tape or warning signs (safety hazard). I know vandalism happens, but make sure your customers are not going to get near it or use the door. Next the line was only three people deep (me being that third person) and it took a good 10 minutes to get to the front. The three workers were doing the following: one was making drinks, by herself; the next one was on the register trying to ring up orders and she seemed a little distracted chatting five of the ten minutes away with her friend who was buying one item; the last guy was chatting away with the girl on the register, distracting her from her job. After we ordered our drinks, we waited another 10 minute for them to arrive. Now I know this is typical of a crazy morning, a lunchtime rush, or any busy period in the day, but none of this was happening. When we got our drinks, we asked for one cardboard sleeve for our own cup that we brought. The girl making drinks was not only rude about it to us, she was rude about it to the lady in front of us about the same thing. A couple of suggestions to the manager/owner: first, put a manager in that team; second, if the cardboard sleeves are -that- big of a hassle, put out a dispenser of them and customers won't have to ask for them. We were about to spend 3-4x what we did spend, but since the service was terrible, we decided not to and almost walked out and went to our preferred store about two miles away. read more

As I emerged from the wilds of Carson City, escaping my own scene from Deliverance, I entered this blissful oasis of civilization. Light, bright, clean, and comfortable, this is one of the nicest Starbucks around. I found a cozy niche, made some calls, enjoyed my latte and yogurt. As I rested, I reveled in the pleasant environment sans awful music and the feeling of being rushed which seems to characterize many Starbucks. They are doing it right here. And, the barista even lent me a pen and gave me blank receipt paper when I needed to take a number down during a phone call. That's what I call service! read more
