Stopped in here for lunch traveling through Allentown. I was just looking to avoid the standard BK & McD fare. The diner is huge. My wife got the salad bar and a burger which was plenty. The burger was above average in size. I got a lunch special of a crab melt on rye with some navy bean soup. Soup was very good and the sandwich much bigger and better than I expected. We've been to this diner twice. The first time was a few years ago while returning from Tennessee on Route 78 & looking for a place to eat late at night. That time we only got salad and sandwiches which were very good. We went back yesterday after spending the day in Pennsylvania but this time we tried their dinner menu. We both has the salmon saute with asparagas over linguini. It was excellent. The meal came with soup, a very good salad bar and a choice of three fresh breads. If you are in the area or driving along Rte 78 this diner is well worth a stop. read more

A top-notch diner! Salad bar is extremely fresh, which is rare at most restaurants nowadays. Portions are huge and very reasonably priced. I got the turkey meatloaf, which was well seasoned and griddled nicely. The roasted chicken and turkey entrees at our table both came with delicious stuffing, and the half rack of ribs was a huge portion. The menu is absolutely massive, and there are daily specials as well. Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly, a plus at any restaurant. Huge and popular diner. The food is OK, the salad bar (or perhaps more appropriately pasta bar) is good and only $5 and change when combined with a sandwich. I would probably rate the food just below 4 stars and the service at 3 stars. Nobody who worked there really seemed to be very happy, hopefully management also notices this one day... We go here often because it's close. The atmosphere is a tacky retro (which we like), the service is usually fine and quick, and the food is OK (lots to choose from, inexpensive, huge portions). It's a local favorite for breakfast! read more

Every time my buddies and I are in the area on business we manage to go in to the starlight. Large parking lot and the menu is very large. The food is solid, nothing spectacular but it will fill you up no matter what you hankering for. The prices are decent and if you go in for dinner the salad bar is a nice touch since they are a dieing breed. read more

We went here tonight for my Birthday Dinner. Normally this place is amazing. Well apparently 2 weeks ago the drastically cut there menu! $14.95 for Ham Steak with NO SIDES! It does come with unlimited soup & Salad bar but still. I also noticed that they only had 2 Chicken dishes on the menu that weren't with pasta. No more Stuffed Chicken Breasts with crab. I decided to settle on the NY Strip Steak with mushrooms. $20.99 for 12oz Strip Steak with mushrooms. Mushrooms were cold and Steak was flavorless. I wasn't going to complain until I found a HAIR IN MY MUSHROOM!! Waitress was apologetic and they did take it off our check. They offered a piece of cake or to remake it but I was too grossed out!! Will NOT be going back. Prices are outrageous for what you get now and I can do without the side of HAIR!!! read more

The waitresses are rude and confrontational and management doesn't appear to care, because the same waitresses are still there behaving in the exact same fashion. The waitresses don't listen when you place your order and bring you things you've explicitly said that you don't want. I've even been charged for ordering an extra pickle with my sandwich! You're lucky if they even state their names when they first come to your table. I've had numerous orders botched and have been served food that wasn't what I ordered. In the most recent experience, the waitress said, "Oh Boy!" as soon as she arrived at my table & saw my face. When I asked her why she had exclaimed "Oh Boy!" upon setting her eyes on me, her response was "You're too particular". I advised management of this incident and was hurried off the phone, because they were busy. On another occasion, one of the men at our table ordered something to drink and the waitress brought him an alcoholic beverage. When he told her that he had not ordered anything with alcohol, she began to argue that he had and that she wasn't hearing things that weren't said. The only food that's worthwhile eating there is the soup. Other than that, I would avoid this diner due to their very poor customer service! read more

You have to love the good old American style diner! I ordered their black bean burger, and the salad/soup bar. There's so many options on the bar. I had a normal salad and went back for noodle salad (which was really good). The black bean burger was also delicious. It was served on an artisan roll with the usual fixings. I was traveling through on my way to the airport and stopped here for breakfast. It is well kept and looked the part of a classic road-side diner. I am part of a breakfast group back in Sacramento, CA, so I kinda know a bit about home-fried potatoes. The good--My wife had the Lox and Bagel, and was very happy with the smoked salmon. The portion was plenty large it came properly prepared. The flavor was clean and even with a very light smoke; the salmon (lox) still was a good meal. My eggs were perfectly over-easy, and I was able to use the yolk to flavor the 'home-fries'. Which were actually closer to hash-brown potatoes, but not bad. The OK--The coffee was mid-pack for diner coffee. Neither good nor bad. The Bad--that would have been the steak part of my 'steak and eggs.' It was tough, and flavor-less even with all the fat. Using some salt and spices when you cook is not a crime, so stop treating it like it is. When using an obviously below grade piece of meat, take the effort to prop it up with seasoning. If I were in the neighborhood on a time crunch I would eat here again, but if I had the time I would look for something more. read more

The Diner is very attractive however the food was disgusting.My wife and I had decided to get take out. She had ordered a sandwich which was completely burned on the bottom and stuck to the styro foam box leaving a big hole where the food had came thru. . HELLO, have you heard of aluminum foil?! Because the Starlite is relatively close to our home, my husband and I have eaten here several times. As others have written, the salad bar is adequate. The bleu cheese dressing seems watered down and flavorless. One night I had a cup of lobster bisque which was quite tasty. Tonight both of us ordered the hot turkey platter which comes with a mound of turkey covering stuffing (or filling), a choice of starch or vegetable, and the unlimited soup/salad/bread bar. Almost done with our salads, our meal was delivered to the table with a "here ya go". Although the menu said cranberry sauce was included, there was none on the chipped plate, although the plate was full of hot food. As I loaded my fork for the fourth or fifth time, I noticed a long black hair coming along for the ride. (My husband is bald, and my hair is short and blond.) Since the waitress hadn't come back to check if we needed anything, we got her attention and let her know. She asked if I wanted another plate, or something else, but never apologized (I realize that it wasn't her fault, but it would've been nice anyway). I turned down the offer since I had lost my appetite. Imagine my surprise when the bill came and we were charged for both meals. Although I had a plate of salad, I didn't take advantage of the unlimited portions, since I had planned on eating another course. I could understand being charged for a side salad, but for an entire meal spoiled by a hair? We eat out a great deal, and with the number of restaurants nearby, there is no reason for us to return to a business who does not care about its customers. read more

That was absolutely horrible. The whole experience. I frequent diners, so I was happy to see a highly rated one near my hotel, but I can't understand where the ratings came from. It started when they sat us (at 3pm in the afternoon) at a booth with an out of order sign on the jukebox. I asked if we could sit at one with a working unit, and the hostess told us most of them didn't work. We were sat at one she 'thought' worked (nope). The floors were filthy, I mean actual trash on the floors. Server (Kelli) was incredibly rude. She acted as if our party of four was an inconvenience. She is in customer service right? Please note, she had one other table, also of four. She walked past us multiple times and almost intentionally wouldn't look at either table. We overheard the other table ask for a dessert menu, to which she told them "you will have to walk up and look yourself ". I approached her at the bar where she was talking with what appeared to be friends about her arm bruises to request a drink, she abruptly told me she would come to my table in a few minutes. Again, please keep in mind the place is virtually empty, so it wasn't as if I was intruding on a busy waitress. We opted for the salad bar as it seemed the safest option and we had a tight timeline and couldn't venture out looking for another dining option. Once was a fan of this diner, not any longer. Their unlimited salad bar was stocked with food but no plates to put it the food on. We asked for the salad bar plates which then took at least 5 minutes to arrive. My wife ordered the tilapia which was very fishy tasting compared to previous visits there. When we asked for large containers to take our food home in we were met with resistance by the manager (owner?) who insisted upon giving us small containers. We were definitely left with the impression that Starlite is trending downward in service and food, which is a lethal combination for an eating establishment. read more

Apparently they can't keep people employed here. I see yet again, they have ads on Craigslist for servers, hostess and line cooks. Then from what I hear from friends in the area, their food is overpriced for the quality you receive. They get good servers and then treat them like crap until they quit and if they don't quit they fire them for no reason. I've known people who have worked here and if they don't like you they will skip over you for seating on purpose. I've been there and seen it. If you skip over someone because you needed a larger table, then go back to that person you skipped. read more
