This was our first time visiting this restaurant, we were the only patrons there, $29.99 per person to cook your own meats, I personally didn't care for the meat or the dipping sauces. Our waitress Cindy was ok, however hard to understand, her English was very limited, it doesn't bother me that she spoke another language, but it does bother me that she doesn't speak English, how am I supposed to communicate with Cindy? I am not racist, but I want to talk to her about the food, I know that this is a Korean barbecue restaurant but we are in California, and she did not understand any of the questions I was asking! Never did she check on us, to see if we needed anything, however when I had to ask for our check, I noticed there was a $22.31 SERVICE CHARGE added to our check, now, I know, sometimes restaurants will do that for parties of six or more, and it's also written on the menu, we were three adults, and one child, nowhere on the door or on the walls or on the menu did it say that there would be a service charge added to every check!!! I was confused, especially because underneath that it mentions gratuity amounts, my son-in-law asks Cindy what this is for, she does not understand English, I am quite mad about this, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to not mention it on the menu, or on the table, and it's not just a five dollar amount it's over $22! Upon arrival, we weren't offered any beverages not even water. Then, we realized we were the only ones left in the restaurant and all the employees were gone. When we needed help, absolutely no employee were inside the restaurant to help us. On top of that, there was 2 strands of hair in the food. We felt like the waiter didn't deserve a tip because of the poor service provided therefore, we left no tip. The waiter had to audacity to question why we left no tip. This was a terrible experience. After being turned away the day before two hours before their advertised closing time (early time for last call!), we decided to try again... with great regret. It's not a huge place -- maybe 15 tables total -- and our group of 6 struggled to get any assistance from the staff when issues arose. We weren't served our soju until nearly an hour in to the meal (and after asking three separate times for it). We did one of the larger sharable platters (combo B I think?) and when the meat was served, it was thrown at random on to the grill. We were also served a giant slab of beef (one of our table described it as a chunk of meat out of Minecraft...) that took forever to try and cook down to serve. Nothing was well seasoned. One of the times we tried to get a staff member's attention regarding the soju, a different staff member came over, threw more meat on the grill, and started randomly cutting a piece of meat we had been served... and knocked another piece on to the floor. That piece, which was a very large piece of pork, was never replaced. When we pointed this out while trying to settle the bill, we were accused of trying to not pay at all. If we could leave zero stars, we would. The restaurant has signage up everywhere asking for reviews on Yelp in exchange for a bottle of soju -- I assume this is where the good rating came from. read more

I started off with Hansang Charim and got additional Galbi, Toshisal, and Salchisal. The quality of the meat was great and the portions were generous. As someone who isn't new to KBBQ, I'd say this place offers pretty good food and atmosphere. However, STE 101 stands out with really great customer service. I ate with some friends who haven't eaten much Korean food before, and the server was very patient with all their questions. I'd definitely come back to support their staff. read more

New place in the heart of Ktown that offers a unique spin on korean barbecue. They offer some prime cuts and specialty cuts (e.g. stuff like organ meats) that you won't find at other typical ktown joints in this area. Also, they offer wine. How many other korean bbq restaurants are there where you could get a decent glass of red with quality beef? Wait was nonexistent on a Friday and service was friendly. As to food, the meat was mostly all high quality. Again, more unique cuts than you'd ever find at other typical korean restaurants. Where they set themselves apart were appetizers and non-bbq offerings. This included their Szechuan beef and tripe salad (at a Korean place?! lol), oxtail soup, and cute little ramen menu. They haven't done a lot of advertising so the opening has flown under the radar, but I highly suggest checking this place out as a strong alternative to waiting 2 hrs for Quarters next time you're in ktown and are in the mood for some great bbq. read more
