I had my newborn and toddler with me and the restaurant called me beforehand make sure I had enough space for stroller and was very accommodating to my request. My son really liked the decoration lol I didn't get to take much of the pictures but for appetizers we ordered Yellow tail hamachi, pricey and small but it was tasty Crispy shrimp, this was disappointing... it was way too salty for my taste but the manager came out and apologized for the taste. Umph he didn't have to do that haha but thanks anyway Oh can't forget about their amazing complimentary house bread. It was so warm and delicious! While our experience started off a bit rocky with one of our meals, the team at Steak 48 handled it with absolute class. The manager, Chris, noticed we weren't fully enjoying things and went above and beyond by bringing out a fresh, perfectly prepared steak to ensure we were satisfied. I'm always searching for a new steak place that's comparable to my favorite places and Steak 48 got awesome reviews on Google, so I said f@#! it, let's try. I liked that the restaurant was located in a shopping center and there was plenty of parking. They do have valet parking and I suppose for status sake, you can opt for that. The valet and entrance had a very LA-esque feel which added to the whole "status" vibe. The restaurant felt like an old school classic steak joint with its decor and dim lighting; one that your rich grandfather (not mine) would go to. The open kitchen was the touch of modernity along with the fancy bidet. The staff were attentive and there seemed to be someone for every aspect/part of your dining. The things we ordered: Bread appetizer (complimentary) - tasted like biscuits, like the ones from a can. It was buttery and sweet. My daughter usually devours the bread, but not this time. It's not something you'd miss. Shrimp cocktail appetizer - perfectly cooked and large! The dipping sauces just completed the dish. I liked the extra side of horseradish. Yellowtail hamachi appetizer - the fish was fresh and light. The sauce added flavor to the fish, but the crispy shallots overpowered it. The shallots provided the textural difference but less of it would have been better. Petit filet with crab cake - the steak was cooked well. The crab cake had a lot of crab, but it ate a little dry and a little bland. Salted fries - served in a ceramic McDonald style fry box and my daughter thought it was the cutest. The fries were delicious. Perfectly salted. Alaskan king crab and rock shrimp mac n' cheese - creamy, cheesy, well seasoned and had a generous amount of seafood. Triple layer key lime pie - definitely a shareable dessert. Overall the flavor was good, but I thought the crust was a little too thick and the whipped cream could have used a little more sweetness. The lime "caviar" was pretty, but I didn't think it added much to the dish. Strawberry gelato - full of strawberry flavor and creamy. Absolutely flawless. The French old fashioned - one of the best I've had. Flavors were balanced. Overall, dinner was good, but compared to other places, far too overpriced and not everything was on point. We paid nearly $600 (with tip). Toward the end of our meal, the manager offered to buy us a drink and asked us to move tables because they "overbooked reservations." Sounds like a restaurant problem and not a patron problem. Initially, we tried to understand, but it definitely left us a bad impression, especially for what we just paid. Had a fantastic meal. We started with the complimentary bread which I saw someone compare to really good crescent rolls and that is very accurate. We then split the New York steak which was the star of the evening. A great steak that was seasoned, cooked, and sliced beautifully - so tender. We also got the corn cream brulee and the hassleback potatoes. As someone who isn't a huge creamed corn fan, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the corn...the potatoes were huge but ultimately not as special as the other items we ordered. We went to the par and ordered a cocktail, cocktails are about $20-25 each. Finally the hostess came over to seat us, about 15 mi. After our reservation. The service was a little slow, our server had about 5 tables of various size going, she was knowledgeable and smiled a lot which was good. For food we ordered the crispy shrimp and a wedge to start. I had the 12oz filet which was good. For sides we had the Au Gratin potatoes which were just ok, and we had the corn Brûlée which was very good but should only be served as a dessert! We came to Carlsbed/San Diego to celebrate our anniversary for the week. This was a place I seen highly rated on Yelp and thought we should check it out sibe I love Steakhouses. We made reservations online, which came recommended and happy we dis so. We were greeted and sat down very quickly. We dis note in the reservations that we were celebrating our Anniversary and at our table was a card hand written by the General Manager congratulations us on our day, which is though was a very special touch. Ambiance was beautiful. Our waitress was very gracious and explained the menu so well. The steaks came out on 500 degree plate which was amazing and a great presentation. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. I think one of the best features was we received a call from the General Manager the next day to ask how our experience was and if we had encountered any problems. This is just a top tier spot and probably my favorite steakhouse in San Diego. From beginning to end they make sure you are having a great experience and enjoying your food. Our waitress Michela was the sweetest person, she provided us with so many wonderful recommendations and was the cherry on top to the dinner. We started off with some drinks, the coastal rita was their twist on a lime margarita, very good and strong - dirty martini was also amazing. They have so many good appetizer options, but the pork belly is a must try, it's served over spinach, with a nice sweet and spicy sauce that pairs perfectly. For our main we shared a tomahawk for the table, cooked at a perfect medium - probably one of the only steakhouses that understood the assignment on this. You are served with piping hot plates so the temperature of the steak will cook a little more. Sides we had were corn brûlée, au gratin potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. The corn was like dessert, it was creamy and sweet, great if you like sweet and savory - Brussels sprouts were also very good with thick pieces of bacon. To end the night we got some more sweets which were complimentary from the restaurant, beignets served with a chocolate sauces and a cream, and my friend opted for the vanilla caramel cake which tastes like a butter cake - it was heavenly! The restaurant is a decent size, but make sure to have reservations ahead of time. There is a handful of self parking all around, but valet is also available. The interior and exterior of Steak 48 are both equally very nice. Everything on the menu sounded great, but our server Michela narrowed down her favorites. The bread that's brought to you before your meal is heavenly. It's a mix of rolls and croissants! Crunchy exterior and a soft pillowy center. The bone in wagyu tomahawk was a non negotiable choice for our table and for good reason. This steak was a well marbled cut of perfection. Melted in your mouth like butter. No chewing needed. This could've been cut with a spoon if needed. Great reminder why I could never be vegetarian. Out of the sides we ordered, one really stood out to all of us. The crème brûlée corn was a highlight. The technique seems so simple, but tastes phenomenal. A brûléed top added a perfect texture and sweetness to the corn. Our server Michela was outstanding. There's above and beyond and somehow she did more than that. Another server, Phillip, had the same great attitude. After over a decade of living in San Diego, I've officially found my favorite steakhouse! I came here to celebrate my birthday with my girl friends and we were in constant awe. Very intimate, incredible staff that are immensely knowledgeable, delicious menu choices (for both steak and seafood lovers), and if you can request a table with a few of the kitchen, raw bar, or one of the bars. Massive restaurant that has everything you could ever need! Also, love that there's valet parking and a general parking lot. The ultimate luxury is SPACE, and Steak 48 offered too little. This is easily one of the top-5 steakhouses in San Diego, maybe even the best. The kitchen does it right. The steaks are phenomenal, cooked to perfection. The sides are creative and delicious. Cocktails are fresh and unique. The prices are .. elevated. Service is impeccable. But they've crammed far too many small tables in there. Our party of four was constantly clanking things around to make room for plates, combining things to make room, rushing to send off empty glasses or plates to make room.. dangling plates off the edge of the table. Who needs that kind of stress when you're paying for the best experience and a memorable meal? Seriously.. that should have been a table for two, not four. Reservations were made months in advance, confirmed thrice, and I'm sitting there screwed at a small table, jealous of the booths. Worse, there's just no space between the tables. I can't remember how many times I heard "sorry", "excuse me", "oops", "Sorry, just getting through", "Can I get by? Sorry." Servers, diners, a never-ending parade of people pushing the back of your seat, squeezing by, around, lifting plates overhead.. It was just too much. There's just no way you can call it a "Fine Dining Experience" when it feels like you're sitting in the way of.. everybody. I mean, sure, a crowded Denny's, okay, hustle and dine, or get an elbow in at the craps table, make friends.. but Steak48? What are you doing? At $750 (!!) for a party of four (four steaks, four cocktails, sides, it gets up there!), I just couldn't wait to get out and breathe. Wow what an experience. We celebrated a birthday here and the entire staff made it very memorable. The lobster Mac n cheese knocked it out of the ball park. It was incredible. 10/10. Highly recommend the deviled eggs if you're a fan, if not, you must order the crispy shrimp. It should be criminal to taste that good. The scallops were super good, prepared well with a yummy sauce. The Oscar topping is a no brainer addition to any steak. And the oysters were unbelievable, I loved trying all the different sauces and vinaigrettes. Came here to celebrate a friend's graduation with a big party, and we have to say that their steaks are top-notch and the ambience is quaint and clean and lovely. We came on a Friday and they played really slapping music and we really enjoyed our time here! We would love to have had more lighting though, and near the end of our dinner we figured out that the lamp in the center of the table is adjustable and we turned it all the way up. The 45 day aged steak is very tender, and I'd like to come back and try other things soonand their calamari and the complementary bread were phenomenal. Satur-date with STEAK My husband asked me if we can go somewhere to get fancy steak (aka fancy steakhouse). He gathered recommendations from coworkers, and made a reservation at Steak 48. Steak 48 is located near the same shopping mall where Cineopolis is located, tucked next to the Mathnasium. Parking is plentiful. There is valet parking available. I am a ambulatory paraplegic, and I use either a rollator or a cane when I walk. There were 2 handicapped accessible parking spaces. Since they were both taken, my husband tried to drop me off, closer, but the valets offered to park our car for free. Fancy. Because of this, I used my cane since I wouldn't need to walk so far. Our reservation came with a reminder of the dress code, like no athletic wear and men should wear sport coats. It is chilly in there, so a wrap or jacket is a good idea (or maybe all of the people boozing it up start feeling too warm). Lighting was dim, and the walk to our table took us past most of the restaurant and the kitchen areas that are fully visible through floor to ceiling panes of glass. Be prepared to be greeted by every person you walk past. Watch your step because some areas have gentle inclines and declines that are not visibly noticeable. I'm glad that I used my cane because some walk ways are tight, and many people are moving about quickly. I wonder where I'd park my walker if I had used it that evening. Once at our table, the hostess asked me if I preferred white or black linens, then swapped out the white napkin with a black one by my request. We decided on chicken fried lobster tails for our appetizer, and we shared a 46 oz. tomahawk steak and roasted brussels sprouts. Dessert was a very decadent peanut butter pie with a crushed peanut crust that we saw on our walk to our table. During our meal, crumbs were swept clean in between each course, warm, damp cloths infused with eucalyptus essential oils were provided to clean our hands in between each course, and they even replaced our used cloth napkins with fresh, folded napkins when we stepped away for restroom breaks. The rest rooms closer to the back where we were seated are single-stall, all-gender restrooms with bidets that open and close to greet you. The seats are warmed and the controls are next to you. It did not have grab bars around the toilet, and I struggled to stand up. On our way out of the restaurant, there were many more people than when we entered. The seats at the bar were full, and everyone was talking and laughing loudly. I was glad that we were seated in the back where it was quieter. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with a beautiful ambiance throughout. Our server Devon was so thoughtful and provided excellent recommendations. We never felt rushed either which was so appreciated since we were celebrating both a birthday and Valentine's Day so wanted to take our time. Crispy shrimp was also good. Super light fry I would suggest saving some of this too pair it with your steak. Dry aged was perfect fat to meat ration and I usually don't like it too fatty but this was cooked well so each bite was effortless. Sides were perfect as well. Absolute Dining Perfection!!! That says it all! I have been to the Steak 48 Houston location twice and was thrilled when I heard that a Del Mar location was opening. Steak 48 is in the portfolio of the Mastro's restaurants. From the minute I walked in, it was an absolutely perfect experience. The ambience is modern but yet still has that classic steakhouse feel. The hospitality and welcoming attitude of every single person in the restaurant was incredible. Every single person seemed genuinely happy to be a part of Steak 48. Miranda and Oscar went above and beyond to anticipate everything we could ever want. Ben wasn't even with our party but he also made it a great experience! The real star of the show is the food. I had the filet and it was cooked to a perfect medium. I had the mashed potatoes and broccoli as sides, which are served family style, and were outstanding. The wine list is extensive and offers a wide range of price points and flavors. DO NOT leave here without getting the butter cake dessert. You will definitely regret it if you don't order it, but share it because it is extra delicious and extra rich. There are four private rooms with the smallest accommodating 16 and the largest accommodating up to 80. By far, the most tender and well-seasoned filet mignon I have ever been fortunate enough to have. You can SMELL the butter as the food comes out. Absolutely delicious. Looking for a steak place to celebrate life? This is the place! Of course, for some, this is a special occasion type place. For us, our 20th anniversary. After my husband are the reservations, the night before, he got a call asking about our special anniversary. When we got there, we were given a card with the congrats on 20 years. Nice touch Steak 48! I got the petite filet mignon, Oscar. To start with, just about anywhere you go, the petite cut is usually around 6oz. This one was a perfectly cooked 8oz cut. Now, when I say perfectly cooked, our server made it clear that they error on the side of under. So anywhere else I go, I ask for mid-rare. Based of of reviews and off of what the server said, I went for mid. It was perfect! The Oscar style was just another level. 9x out of 10, Oscar isn't even offered anymore! Thankfully, it is offered at Steak 48. The crab meat is the most delicate crab cake measles perfectly on top. I basically looked at it wrong and it fell apart! It was pretty much nothing but lumps of crab with not much holding it together. Best Oscar style steak to date. Just sayin! The margarita was delicious! When asked if I had a tequila preference, I simply said, " Cadillac" and they figured it out from there. I did say no salt, oops! But they made up for the mistake nicely. The location is perfect! All the other great steak house options seem to be in unique settings we just are not willing to go to... such as GasLamp district. So this puts Steak 48 at the top of the list due to quality and location. read more

Steak 48 in Del Mar offers a fine dining experience that leaves patrons satisfied and impressed. With this establishment just opening this year, it was extremely difficult getting a reservation. With that, my friends and I sat at the bar which was already packed by 4pm which is their opening time. We started our steak campaign with oysters 4 varieties, 2 from the east coast and 2 from the west coast - full of flavor with that briney freshness. Also during this time, they brought out warm delicious flakey croissant like bread that just melted in your mouth. I had to be careful to not go overboard with the bread like I usually do. Next up was the fried lobster tails which at first you thought was fried chicken with that batter but then you taste that fresh succulent lobster. For the main, of course I had to go with the classic ribeye cooked medium rare and it was spectacular with full flavor of juicy goodness. Every thing our group ordered was delicious, flavorful and left you wanting more. The ambiance is that of a traditional steakhouse, dark and cosy. Brian our server was amazing!! From start to finish, he hit all points of steps of service - from a warm greeting, guiding us through the menu, recommending dishes, etc. He did not miss a thing. The service all around was impeccable. When the food arrives, the team will serve the side dishes table side on a very hot plate... ladies first the men after. :-) Ambiance was chic, modern.. they have a few options for private dining and 2 bars! 1 bar is self seating and the other is based on reservation and/or wait list. As for food, we had the following: House Bread 5/5 AMAZING, MUST ORDER!! Crispy Shrimp 3/5 Tasty, I had a couple of pieces, but could not have any more. A bit saucy for my liking.. it took away from the crunchiness Wagyu Beef Tartare 5/5 Yum, you could taste the freshness.. served with Pita Bread (interesting) Main Lobster Escargot 4/5 Not escargot... like snails. Tasty. I have not experienced something like this before. Basically lobster pieces in an escargot shelling vessel Filet Mignon 5/5 Bone in Ribeye 5/5 *all meats were cooked to temperature. The right amount of cheese, baked to perfection (Gouda and Mozzarella) Crispy Hasselback Potato 2/5 Just okay. Nothing horrible about them, but nothing amazing about them Roasted Brussels Sprouts 5/5 Can't go wrong with Brussels! Bacon and sea salt, amazing Sautéed Sweet Corn 4/5 Did not expect it to be super sweet like a dessert, however, it complimented savory items (steak and potatoes) when eaten together Red Velvet Bread Pudding 5/5 AMAZING. Not too sweet, very tasty and hit all the details of a bread pudding. Served with a side of white chocolate ganache. Warm Vanilla Cake 4/5 served with gelato and whipped cream - Tasty, but more on the sweet side with the caramel in it. This is made for all the caramel lovers! Beignets 3/5 - presentation is on a tree stand, cute! They didn't seem as fresh or did not have that soft dough like a typical beignet or doughnut. Just okay. Also, bathrooms are cute and clean.
