Once the food arrived it was fresh and hot, so it's good. It tasted good too... Our waitress was some what nice, but no refills for drinks and didn't bring sirup for the pancakes... Since we waited so long, my toddler was done before I had a chance to finish my breakfast, I had to shove the rest in my mouth and head out... We (2 of us) went on a Saturday night 03/21/15 at 7:30 pm. We had to wait at the door 5 mins before we were seated. They were busy and I counted nine tables that needed to be bused. Of the 4 wait staff only one had what I call a clean white shirt. The others need to take theirs to the cleaners or buy new shirts. The female waitress went from table to table taking orders (4 in a roll) then turned all orders in at once. She gets most all yhe tables while the male waiters bused tables and delivered orders. We heard what looked lime a manager ask the female waitress "What tables don't you have?". It would be nice to see the male waiters getting their fair share or tips for the work they do. They seem very unorganized here. The food was good. The burgers are small, prices are fair, onion rings aren't up to par with other restaurants. I wish the French fries were thicker. Horrible service. Dropped in after the FC Dallas match to get shakes for the fam. My son's girlfriend had never been to a Steak 'n Shake. After bragging on them, we walked into an 80% empty restaurant and the hostess rudely and loudly said "there is a 30 minute wait" followed by "get out of the way if you're going to stay". They have the trappings of a fast food restaurant but they ask you to wait to be seated and - if you're lucky - someone will come by and take your order. Hopefully, you'll get it in a reasonable time frame. That was not my experience at this location in the tony suburb of Frisco. I stopped by hoping it would be a quick in and out. I was seated by a man in a button down white shirt - I assumed he was the manager. But after 5 to 10 minutes, no one came by to take my order. So I left for another place that consistently delivers, just a few minutes away. It's a shame because the S&S menu has some good fare. But I never got to taste any of it because the service was unfocused and slow. If you go to this Stake & Shake, "bring a lunch." And make sure you have LOTS of time. read more

I waited 15 minutes to be seated, never during any of that time was my presence acknowledged. The tables were "cleaned" with sticky rags and the booths were dirty. A server took my order, another server brought my food but with no napkins, or utensils, or catsup. When leaving it was another 10 minute wait to check out. the hostess checked out the gentleman in front of me and the disappeared without a word leaving me waiting again, sticking to the less than clean floor. Went in after 2 o'clock today to get lunch. Waited for ten minutes to get seated, which was fine, it was obviously a little bit busier than usual. We could see the manager standing back by the Point-of-Sale systems the whole time, not really doing anything. Eventually he came and sat us, then left without at least taking our drinks. I don't know if he thinks that he's above taking orders or what, but we've both worked in multiple restaurants, so we know when a manager is refusing to step in and help. Then we waited for over ten minutes for a server with no luck, so we left. Look, we could see that there was a somewhat large party there, so I can understand a little delay in getting our food out, but not even getting drinks or taking orders? A friend an I have started coming here a lot lately. The prices are great and I love the feel of 50's diners. 2-4 am/pm are Happy Hours and shakes are half off. I have to admit their lunch/dinner items are much more enjoyable then the breakfast I tried. I ordered a "panwhich"... Basically sausage and egg between two pancakes, and served with the silver dollar hash browns. The hash browns were tasty, the pancakes were a bit gritty and the sausage was not very flavorful. We came here and were greeted and seated instantly by a very friendly waitress. I noticed what looked like a very large sticker had been pulled off the table--it was very dirty and so were the booth seats. We ordered our food and shakes as soon as we sat down. Our food came first, the Frisco Melt, which tasted amazing. It took a few minutes after we got our food to get our shakes, and they weren't very good (the cookies and cream was basically a vanilla shake with one oreo in it). However, the very friendly service and great sandwiches are what made me decide I would come again. This place could definitely use a few more employees (we only saw two people waiting), and a better janitor, but other than that, this is a decent place to come for a steak burger. read more

I came in with a group of 10 teenagers and we were treated poor right away. It took about 15 minutes just to receive our waters. And I might mention there was maybe another family in at the time. As we patiently waited we noticed that people that came in after us were receiving their food before us. We asked why and the waiter told us that the manager instructed them to serve the others first. This was totally unfair towards our group who gave nothing but respect to the staff. We didn't receive our food until about an hour after we ordered. And the ones who ordered milkshakes revived them about 10 after that. Very slow drive thru service. It took over 10 mins to receive my food after ordering. They don't seem to care or have any urgency as the drive thru line grows. Then to top it off, they gave me the wrong order, so I decided to pull thru and park instead going back around thru the drive for what would probably be a 30 min wait. Upon making contact with the girl who gave me the drive thru order, which I told her the problem, she then tells me that she had a feeling that she gave me the wrong order, which if that was the case, maybe she should have double checked the bag before giving it to me. read more

My husband and I went here for our first time to end our date night. We wanted shakes so it being approx. 9:30pm on Saturday (and needing to get home to relieve the sitter) we went through the drive thru. After 18 minutes of not moving in the line at all, the car 2 cars up left without reaching the window. 20 minutes after ordering we moved up a car length. By the time we got to the window almost 25 minutes had passed. We watched through the window as the kid at the register played on his phone and the worker in back clearly needed back up. Getting a quick bite here is impossible. We had ordered burger fries, and a grilled cheese and fries. As we waited over 30 minutes for our food, 3 other patrons had received their meals. These patrons all sat down after us. We were told that because my husband had requested grilled onions on his burger it would take longer. Then we were told that it was only one cook. Seems funny that she( the cook) could whip out orders of burger and fries before getting out salad and our burger. The fries were not hot and hard on both our orders. My grilled cheese was cold. The only decent part was the burger my husband finally got to enjoy. As we were eating our meals I could have died of thirst waiting for a refill. I especially enjoyed the attitude we received when asked about our meals. Visits like this make me hesitant to come back on a regular basis. read more

They need to close their drive thru - OR close the restaurant because they definitely can't do both. In fact, they can't even do ONE well and that's sad because the food isn't all that bad. And it's priced well. But getting it is another matter. We've gone often in the past - both in the restaurant and the drive thru, but last nights experience in the drive thru has made me decide we can't do this anymore. We arrived at 10:03 pm. We were behind a truck waiting to order. There was no one in front of him. 10 minutes later he was STILL waiting to order. I was ready to pull out and go elsewhere but there was a car right behind us and I was wedged in. Just then I heard them take his order and he pulled around to the window. I placed our order (2 burgers, 1 fry) - and was finally handed our order at 10:37! Totally unacceptable. As I pulled away I looked in the restaurant because they certainly weren't busy at the drive thru... about 4 tables. Maybe 5 but there were only 3 cars on the Preston side. The fries weren't hot either! Burgers were "ok" - but not worth 34 minutes sitting there waiting and burning gas!! I'm DONE with Steak and WAIT!!! That was our LAST visit!! I do not want to give this place any stars as the service is bad. First visit here it took an hour to get food. Could be short staffed, could be an issue in the kitchen, I really do not know. We decided to give it another try a year later and this time we could not even get seated. We (4 people) stood for more than 5 minutes waiting to be seated in a place that was not even 1/4 full. A waitress walked by 3 times and told us somoene would be with us. The guy at the grill, may have been the manager, acknowled the 3 people before us and us had been waiting a long time and someone would be with us soon. I love Steak 'n Shake. I use to work at one a few years back when younger in the kitchen so I know myself that the food is made to order. Fresh and perfection for a fast food diner! Unfortunately this particular location is dragging the Steak n Shake name through the mud. Literally. But yet I still don't learn my lesson and just go to a different location. This one is closest to my home so I still make my way back. First off, every time I come in there is no one that acknowledges you. You stand there literally for 10+ minutes looking dumb while everyone acts as if you were invisible. While I'm there past times already sitting down, I see at least 3 families walk out! Being in the service industry, it drives me nuts seeing people standing there with no one saying ANYTHING. At least tell them that you'll be with them in a sec. And I would somewhat understand if they were packed and they miss the people standing at the door but NO, there's literally only 5 or less tables in there. No comment. Second, every time I order a milkshake to go after finishing my meal, it's seriously a MILK shake... it's completely melted as if it was sitting in the window for 15 minutes. Ugh. Third, fries always taste old like they've been there for 20 minutes or more. When I use to work there, the lady that was in charge in the kitchen area would NEVER allow the fries to be served if they were older then 7 minutes. And even that was pushing it. Obviously no one cares at this location! And when I switched to a cup of chili instead, it tasted like there wasn't much heat on it. Luke warm chili. Yum. Fourth, the person that was a training server, needs some more training themselves. We flagged her down when we weren't acknowledged after she threw some menus very quick on the table and then she sent some other girl after she saw we were getting a little aggravated. And the minor thing for last, the restrooms are always dirty. I'd rather hold it then go in there. This location needs to find different management and train their employees better. I love Steak N Shake and will not stop going for some minor things that need to be fixed but these people just don't care at all. read more

Overall the place is ok. Food is always good and priced very well. As for the experience - whether it is eating inside or ordering from the drive-thru - it has typically been hit-or-miss. Most of the time, the staff has been pretty good, and I have never had any mess ups on my orders or anything of that sort. The worst experience I had was when I went to order food from the drive-thru one night after work, and their drive-thru intercom was out of order. Due to the rush of customers in the drive thru, customers not being able to place an order until they were literally at the window, and THEN having to wait another 10-15 minutes afterwards to receive the food, this ended up adding a lot of wait time for everyone in line. I ended up having to wait at least an hour that day before finally receiving the food from the drive thru. Meanwhile, the wait time was so bad that some cars were just driving off to order somewhere else. However, I have gone back a few other times since then, and I have not had an experience that bad since. Their intercom is functional again, and wait time now is roughly around 10-15 minutes MAX for me if I ever order from the drive-thru. We will still continue to eat there from time to time if we are ever in the mood. read more

My family entered this restaurant and stood at the wait to be seated sign for a few minutes. The place was less than half full, so we thought we'd be seated quickly. Wrong. No less than three employees looked straight at us, but then went back to doing whatever it was they were doing. None of them ever came to seat us, or even speak to us. Needless to say, we left. This is on a street with dozens of restaurants. We took our business elsewhere. We were probably fortunate. Our server Ciciar was speedy friendly and attentive. The food garlic burger and fries were served hot and they were awesome. She even provided water my Carmel turtle shake was exceptional. My two kids meals were just the right size and portion.The kids vanilla and chocolate shakes were great too. Everything was great till check out. The bathroom was clean and smelled fresh. This is the worst location I've ever been to. Seriously, avoid this location at all costs. The Plano one is way better. When we walked in, there were two tables with customers and six dirty tables. Staff was running around there like chickens with their heads cut off. It took them almost 10 minutes to seat us. Multiple staff members walked by ignoring us. It wasn't until a massive group walked in behind us that they finally bothered to seat us. Service was terrible. Worse than terrible. Our waitress took her time getting our order. Our food took over 20 minutes. Drink refills? Ha. The entire place was disgusting. Our menus, table, and napkins all had random hairs in them. We never got our ticket. After waiting another 15 minutes, we gave up and just went to checkout. The guy who rang us out, Falkowski Odneal, was nothing short of a jerk. I handed him a coupon for $4.99 for the Frisco melt dinner and he informed me that's not what I received. I received the Frisco melt with one side. The dinner comes with two. I told him what I told the waitress was "Frisco melt dinner" because I read it off the coupon. It's not my fault she got it wrong. Plus I saved them money by only getting one side instead of two. He got annoyed and started banging away at the cash register. After a few minutes, he took 50 cents off and gave us the new total. The receipt was not itemized. All it says is "total before discount" and a 50 cent discount. He never said thank you, have a nice day, thanks for coming in, nothing like that. Oddly enough, he asked the middle aged white woman in front of us "How was everything today" along with "Thank you for coming in". I'm an engineer and my wife is a RN. There was only one other family in the restaurant and the table and booths were dirty, the bathrooms were filthy and there were no paper towels in the bathrooms. One of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant was at my local Steak N' Shake (store #519) in Frisco, TX on July 4th, 2016. Not only was the General Manager rude to us when we first walked in the door by loudly exclaiming that it would be at least 15 to 20 minutes before our orders could be taken, but we waited over an hour for our food! There were two servers, two grill cooks, and a General Manager on site at Midnight on a Sunday night yet it still took over an hour for our food to be delivered! Our server (Bryce H.) spent almost all of his time chatting with his friends at the table right next to us instead of taking out food orders and giving refills. He also left our food sitting in the window for over 20 minutes, so by the time our meals arrived, the french fries were hard and cold. The ice cream milkshakes were half-melted upon arrival to our table. Two of our orders included cajun seasoned french fries, and we didn't receive the seasoned fries so I had to ask for an adjustment at the cash register when paying for the meals. I would never expect to wait over an hour at a fast food restaurant on a late Sunday night for our food to arrive. Very disappointing, and if this is the service to be expected, I will not return. UPDATE: The manager of the store whom was so rude to us during our visit called me and told me that she was "sorry that I took it that way" (her rudeness) and she also informed me that my negative review "made her look bad to her District Manager". I was sent a $10 gift card several weeks later as an apology, however I gave the gift card away. I won't be visiting that location again. read more

We eat here a lot because of the low cost of the food. We have put up with horrible service at the store. But things have really turned around and the service is really great. If I could give this location zero stars I would. I've been here numerous times and have had the same experience everytime. When you walk in the first scent you get is pure Body Odor. This visit they had 13 tables that hadn't been cleaned and looked to be vacant for some time. When we were finally seated we sat for 15 minutes before finally deciding to leave without any interaction from a single employee. The kids were walking around aimlessly without helping.
