I rarely go to Steak n' Shake. The location is just too far from our house, even though it's right next to the mall. I recently joined their reward program and was offered a free item. Steak 'n Shake is probably the cheapest sit down "restaurant" in America. This doesn't mean the food sucks, it's just the same cost as McDonalds with the sit down restaurant feel. None of what I really said is relevant and I apologize you just read that. But I do love Steak 'n Shake and it's all due to growing up in St. Louis. We have them all over the place, and it's always good-cheap-drunk food. I took a red eye flight to Pensacola and had about an hour to kill before my friends got in. I decided to walk to Steak 'n Shake (wouldn't recommend it, it's not that close) and grab a burger at 8:30 AM. To my surprise, they serve their entire menu all day long. Being someone that isn't a breakfast fan, this suited me well. I ordered the original steak burger, a cup of chili, and an unsweetened tea. The burger meal with fries was $4, chili was $2.25, and the tea was $2. Everything is so ridiculously cheap and I always forget how cheap this place is. The food is always decent though, and well worth the price. I will always be down for some Steak 'n Shake, and Debbie was a great server. Such a nice women! read more

Very weird experience. I got there and some random guy was shooting a music video in the parking lot right in front of the drive thru line, he had huge lights and was dancing with a bottle of dussé (i think)... anyways i waited in line for 25 minutes, i didn't mind. i got to the window they asked me like 5 times what i ordered and i told them a deluxe number 1 meal. i sat at the window waiting for probably about 10 minutes while a huge line was behind me. there was at least 11 people in the back... some had no uniform on and looked like they didn't even work there. finally i got my food and it was just ketchup on the burger... my ticket also said "DO NOT MAKE" read more

I am extremely disappointed to hear employees at Steak and Shake today thought a deputy getting shot was his fault "for messing with people". The manager was told of the incident, but best anyone can tell nothing was done about the horrible comments. So Steak and Shake heads up, word is getting out about your employees lack of respect for our deputies, police, and first responders. So disappointed! I paid $28.21 ($4.75 EACH) for "steak franks". In the past, these have been delicious and the only place I'll eat these! Today I went there and they are NOT steak franks. They are CHEAP, gross, tasteless hotdogs. SO nasty I just threw them out. What a ripoff! I was staying overnight in Pensacola on my way to another Florida destination when I ran out in a rain storm on Thursday, 6/15/23, around 7 PM to get a couple of burgers at this Steak and Shake location. Imagine my surprise when I returned to my hotel to find that the so-called burgers had nothing on them, no condiments, no vegies - NOTHING - just the buns and some so-so patties. Normally, this place is easy to get in and get seated in the service is fast. Food is consistent with each trip.

So today while dinning with with two children, our male server was great! Super nice and accommodating. But during our visit and older gentleman came in without a mask. The two women on shift almost tag teamed him for not having a mask on. So he covered his face with his shirt and just wanted to sit at the counter. One of the ladies tried to be nice and give him something to cover his face as he was confused about why he needs it to walk-in but doesn't have to wear it sitting down. The one lady with braids in front of everyone yelled "sit him in your section then! Although the food was great, our server was very, very rude. Drea made snarky and negative comments anytime she came to our table to take our order and refill our drinks. She threw straws down on the table, as well as rolling her eyes when we spoke. The worst part is when I went to use the restroom. Both bathrooms were occupied. One by a mom and her child who needed changing, and one with our waitress in the stall on the phone. I waited a solid five minutes before giving up and sitting back down to eat, and the mother changing her child came out of the bathroom before our waitress. There is truly nothing that compares with the garlic burger at steak and shake. We plan trips around stopped at steak and shake. We do not have one in our area, so it is a special treat. Stale cold fries. Mind you it was 2 a.m. when I left the comfort of my home to get something to eat and there are not many options for me at this time of night. I was the only car in the drive-thru lane when I arrived and no guests appeared to be inside. It took over 10 minutes to prepare my order and yet the fries they served me were stale AF. I watched the woman who took my order stand around and do nothing as we waited. I bet you a $20 Steak 'n Shake gift card that she drops fresh fries in the fryer for herself to snack on every chance she gets. I had my wife blind taste test me on the fries Steak 'n Shake served me vs some McDonald's fries I found on my desk that were a few days old and I couldn't tell them apart. To the "cook": You most likely have done this before and know the burgers take some matter of minutes to cook thoroughly and fries take some minutes to cook but take less minutes than the burger patties do. So, when you have tickets with burgers and fries on them, you should probably throw patties on the flat top and then drop fries in the grease and set the timer. Before the burgers are even done, you are pulling fries out of the grease and hanging the basket. After assembling the burger, you dump the fries out of the basket, salt them, and then scoop some up and pour them into the little small fry cup. Finally, you serve the patiently waiting guest food that is edible and worth waiting for. That way this person doesn't leave you a negative review on yelp and say something threatening like, "Serve me cold fries again and see what happen." Drive the extra 5 miles to the McDonald's downtown and get quality food. Stay away from Steak 'n Shake and it's terrible management. read more

This used to be one of my very favorite restaurants back in the day... So I was excited that we have one here in Pensacola since I have not had Steak 'n Shake in years. The only thing that was good about my meal was my Dr Pepper and if I could give zero stars I would. I ordered my meal at the drive-through and with the amount of time I had to wait for my food I would have expected freshly prepared and hot fries and burger. Unfortunately the fries were ice cold and tasted as if they had been sitting out for a long time and the burger was absolutely inedible and I ended up just throwing it away. I would have went back to the restaurant to request a replacement but I already had started my drive back to the other side of town I didn't want to flip back around, but I still thought that this review was necessary to express my disappointment. With so many businesses being shorthanded due to Covid I am more than happy to wait a little bit longer if my food is going to be prepared properly and be hot and delicious but that definitely did not happen today. read more

I have officially now been to my local S&S two times. Both times in the past week. Once for a Sunday morning Breakfast. Very early this morning for a Burger and Fries. 1. The Good...Great Service. Friendly Staff on both visits. Overall Clean Restaurant by Pensacola/NW Florida Standards. Fast Delivery of Food. 2. The Bad...The Breakfast Plate was edible by former Army Chow Standards. The Bagel had been cooked on top of the burger grill and tasted nasty. Get the Toast? I'm assuming here that they actually have a Toaster. Great Invention. All the food had the aftertaste of vegetable shortening from the Grill. The Double Steak Cheese Burger with Fries...IF I was expecting anything remotely resembling a Double Burger from Burger King I would have been hugely disappointed. These have to be the skinniest burger patties on the Planet. Your TOTAL Pre Cooked Beef Weight is about 2.2 Ounces. No Flavor and mostly Beef Fat in the Center part. Very Fresh Vegetables. I don't eat the Buns so just as well. It was cold and dry. The Single Slice of American Processed Cheese was on the Bun, not melted in between the patties so cold and semi soft. The Shoe String Fries were glistening with oil and zero seasoning. Enough said...Yes the Condiments offered as much Seasoning as I wanted to sprinkle on the Fries. 3. The Ugly....I really don't have an Ugly for this Restaurant. The Parking Lot is a royal P.I.T.A. to get in and out of....Other than that My 2 Stars is a fair rating. However, I have never had one of their Milk Shakes and probably never will as I always seem to enjoy one with a great Burger and Fries. The Restaurant was almost empty on both occasions we were there so apparently rushing to get the food cooked is Job 1 regardless of demand. That would explain the cold burger, lukewarm fries, and flat grilled Bagel... The Saving Grace for this Restaurant is the Friendly and Professional Staff. Well Done...
