Not many customers at noon. The place is badly dated in almost everything from layout to color scheme. It's hard for me to put my finger on it, but it's Sad. We ordered patty melts. What distinguishes a patty melt from any otHer sandwich? Plenty of fried onions. Well guess what the cook forgot? There's no excuse for it. The fix process took too long too. What should have been an urgent problem was handled as if screwups occur all the time. I waited for my onions but my wife was too hungry so they gave us a $1 credit. I had a side of chili (beans.) Tasted like Hormel chili but was (seriously) 60-70% kidney beans. They wanted a buck extra for 'extra' meat. My wife said her coleslaw was good. That's something, and once I had some (not that many) fried onions, I enjoyed my sandwich. Sad. I really had hoped for the old Steak n Shake I once knew but it's dying out. Came here for dinner while traveling. Accidentally sat ourselves because that's how the steak and shake in our city operates. Apparently we really upset the waitstaff because they seemed to be trying to "punish" us due to this mistake. They refused to acknowledge us when we tried to talk to them, my boyfriend begged me for us to leave. When I finally approached a server in the wait station and explained the small mistake we had made, she couldn't be bothered to look up from her phone to acknowledge me and then was VERY rude (she continue to sit on her phone in the wait station for the entire time we were there 30+ minutes, which is probably why there wasn't a hostess to seat people). It then took someone ten minutes to come take our drink order. Then eight minutes for them to bring back one soda, I witnessed her standing in the kitchen talking about us (with our drink in her hand) for three of those minutes. Our server was very rude and seemed very bothered by us the entire time. We genuinely mistakenly sat ourselves at a table and the end result was a punishment. We will not be eating at this steak & shake ever again. I shouldn't have left a tip at all, but I'm not that kind of person. Although I do believe you tip according the service you receive... Very weird experience to be a kind, understanding, paying customer and be "punished" for an hour because we made an innocent two minute mistake. read more

This place was busy Saturday for lunch so I sat at the bar and watched the griddler griddle about a 100 burgers while i waited for my shooters. Watched my shooters come off the griddle and waited about 15 min before they actually made their way to me on a tray that looked like it had been busing tables for 6 months without a hose down ) : There was not much going on with these little burgers. Place was a messy. My Server i'm guessing was new...handed me my check and i couldn't read it through all the grease....I like grease but not that much. I Have to complain, not your service, but the food. I had in the past a decent "Frisco patty melt". But things have changed; Today at you restaurant # 354 in Tallahassee, the food was very much low quality. This melt came in a regular medium toast white sandwich bread with a piece of meat and a slice of yellow cheese overlapping. Actually, it was like a regular burger and cheese sandwich. Well I pulled into the parking lot in the front door was open but the inside door was locked. Looked inside and there where two employees with there heads on the counter resting or sleeping wouldn't want to point any fingers at someone. So I turn around and told some people coming to the door that it was locked. I get in my car and a lady ask me what I said to the people leaving. I told her the inside door is locked. She told me no sir honey, we are open 24/7, I told her to go check the door and I left. Another suggestion "If you are closed or A Sleep put a sign up "Says CLOSED or A SLEEP" and turn your light off where I want stop by and you can get some rest. Ok- it's a chain! It is clear when you walk in that they need more help. People were waiting and there were empty but dirty tables. One more lunch person would not hurt, even a busser. So, decisions. Hamburger or chili. I love chili so I ordered both a chili 3-way and an A1 slider. My regret is not having their fries. They ate the shoestring type that I usually enjoy. The hostess doubled as my wait staff and promptly brought my drink. The little 89 cent shooter or slider was ok. Maybe a bigger burger next time! The chili had some heat which I like, but also a lot of grease which I don't. The three way was spaghetti, chili meat and chili sauce. I thought it would be spaghetti chili (with meat of course) and onion. The bowl was little but only 3.99. Wendy's chili is much cheaper and with more meat. Steak 'n Shake you need to do better then this! Initially told my husband that the rating was going to be a 3 because once the food came out after 30 min, it was really good. There appeared to be a shift change the cook left and the replacement wasn't there so no one was cooking for at least 15 min. This is the worst steak &shake I have been in at night or early morning hours. The customer service is very inconsistent. Nasty looking stinky bathroom, no toilet paper. I had 2 good service of the 5 times there. The chili tonight was dry and it does have good smooth mild kick flavor. The coffer was fresh, I asked before ordering, hot, medium strong good. Awful service. Our server sat us down and than left and we never saw her again. No one knows where she went. Another server helped us but only after we sat for 30 minutes and asked for help, and even she seemed reluctant. The food came and it was the wrong stuff, missing ingredients (all of the burgers came without lettuce and tomato) and the root beer shakes came last cause they said it takes longer. Really? We complained and the server just matter-of-factly said they didn't have it but offered to give it in a separate bowl. Duh? The Cajun fries did not have Cajun seasoning. They gave us a shaker of some other seasoning instead. My son's milkshake was the last to arrive (after we asked since we were almost done). It tasted off but son said it was ok after a bit. Horrible service. It took 10 minutes to be seated and then another 15 just to get a somebody from the wait staff to acknowledge that my family was there. After ordering, it took 30 more minutes for soggy burgers to arrive. We should have left prior to ordering. The restroom was terrible. There was POO smeared on the stall and stall door and lock. I was already inside the stall and locked the door before noticing the fecal decorations. I had inadvertently touched POO... The toilet paper had been urinated on. I had to get out of there. They were as fast as they could be and when there was slight mistake to our order the manager was quick to assist me at the counter and made it right herself. Whenever I end up in a Steak n Shake drive thru after midnight I prepare myself for a long wait. That being said this location was extremely fast and efficient. I waited roughly 6 minutes but was warned they were making my order fresh from scratch so the wait was understandable. I will keep this location in mind for future visits read more

Horrible! Doesn't even deserve 1 star. Came in tonight at 11:30pm and was told to seat ourself. No one came over and acknowledged us at all...we sat here for 30 minutes and I finally asked to see the Manager to be told they didn't have one on duty. People were walking by us bussing tables but never once stopped to take our order. As we were getting ready to leave a very nice lady who was working the back named Marquita offered to help and was very apologetic and acknowledged that they had servers who could have helped us.
