This was the worst experience I've ever had. Literally awful. Not to mention we arrived to the restaurant at 11:15 at night. The people behind us were seated first and also were able to order 30 minutes before they got to our table. We finally ordered after an hour of waiting. Two hours later WE RECEIVED THE MILKSHAKES, five easy to make milkshakes. The people who came in 45 minutes after us were already eating before they even put in our order. I could've raised my own herd of cattle and slaughtered them to prepare my own burger in the time that they even attempted to serve us. Eventually when it got to about 1:30 we left the restaurant, still with an empty stomach and not one bit of satisfaction. Never eating here again read more

Very slow. Our waitress told us it was her first day serving tables--which is fine. But she was left with half the dining room to herself and everything in the order was wrong. She apologized and fixed our issues the best that she could. Being that I work in a fast food establishment similar to this one, I know how things work and that things were made incorrectly and that it was not her fault on her own. However when we spoke to management the manager on duty TRIED TO BLAME everything on the waitress. She blamed our wait times and incorrect orders on the girl when she had read it back to us correctly--so it is surely not her fault. The manager was assisting in the kitchen and had no hat/hairnet on and no gloves--I cannot get over the fact that she blamed our waitress. We also had my service animal present and she was wearing her ID when one of the servers jumped back and screamed when she came by (my animal is about a foot and a half in height) A terrible experience, really. I understand why so many of these chains are closing. I wouldn't eat here or any other one of their locations ever again. read more

Very impressed with the atmosphere along with the service. Compared to experiences at similar restaurants, my experience here like a peaceful walk through a flower patch. The food was delicious, and the prices were extremely reasonable. Most importantly, the wait staff was kind and attentive to my needs. read more

Today, my family decided to go to Steak"n Shake. I was very disappointed because they got 3/4 orders wrong! The service was terrible, and we waited about a hour. The food was okay, but we are not going to that place again. read more

Then he didn't bring our drinks out until after he brought food, which was wrong because he was too impatient to get the order in and didn't understand my friend with me as he has had a stroke and he can't talk fast. I like the food, especially the vanilla milkshakes. Good fries and I like single cheeseburger with bacon--all for $4. However, service is the worst--slow, staff stands around together talking instead of working. Only the cooks seem to work. This is based on many visits, not just the occasional experience. read more

Unbelievably poorly run place. Moved to Tallahassee from the Chicago area in July of this year. My wife and I frequented a few different locations in that area, and were almost always happy with both the food and the service. No, it is not gourmet food, just good basic burgers, fries, etc. After our move to Tally, we tried out this location , which is roughly 15 minutes from our home. The first time they made a burger incorrectly (for some reason they have a single and double guacamole burger that has different toppings - the single is very basic with just guac and cheese while the double is listed as having tomato, onion, etc. The double was dressed like the single - lots of things missing.) On our second trip food was left out of the bag (we almost always get our food to go). Fortunately I noticed the mistake in the car before leaving the parking lot. My THIRD visit was the worst - came in on a fairly busy Saturday. Waited nearly 30 minutes for food to be made. Of course they brought my shakes within a few minutes. (Why they can never get them done at the same time is beyond me - you either wait while your food gets cold to get the shakes or the shakes melt sitting on a counter). After about 20 minutes I asked why my order was not up yet and was told that it was "next" to be made. When I mentioned that the shakes were melting a well meaning employee said she would put them in the freezer for me until my food came out. At around the 30 minute mark I finally received my food as well as the now melted and refrozen shakes. Upon getting at my car, I decided I better do an inventory and sure enough an item was missing (order of baked beans) I then went back into the restaurant to get that item, bringing my bag of food. I then waited almost 15 more minutes to get baked beans ( my guess is they simply have a batch of them keeping warm - 15 minutes seems like a long time to plop a couple of spoonfuls of beans from one pot to another). UPON finally receiving my food I mentioned to the young lady that now I have 2 shakes that had been sitting in the car for about 15 minutes in about 90 degree heat. They then remade my shakes (amazing it took all of a minute to get those - if they can be made that quickly why can't them come out with THE FOOD?) MY next visit was even more amusing - after calling the survey number on my receipt (which by the way I had to ASK for - guess they didn't want me calling!) I was sent a gift card for about 20 bucks - roughly the amount of my bill. Again our burgers were not made properly - believe it or not it was STILL the guacamole burger that was missing half of the ingredients. Upon pointing that out to the young lady who took our order I was confronted by the "chef" who had made it, who asked me what we wanted on it. I simply told him we wanted it the way it was listed in the menu and he had to ask ME how it was listed. I simply opened the menu and showed him that the double had a lot of stuff on it. Seems to me like the employees, including management, in this location would much rather argue with customers than simply do their jobs properly. And all of them are either woefully undertrained, lazy or both. Four attempts to eat there - not a single visit has been handled even in a mediocre fashion. I will try the other Steak and Shake (which is about 20 more minutes from home) because I do enjoy their burgers. But this location will NEVER see me again. read more

My husband and I are here doing storm work from NC. We have been to this Steak N Shake for the past week and every night was great except last night. Last night my husband, brother, sister in law, and I went out to eat. Our waitress started out very nice but after she took our order it went down hill. It took us 30 minutes just to get our drink. Right when we got our drinks a table of 7 sat beside us. They also had the same waitress and it took them about 15 minutes to get their drinks and the only reason they got them was because a lady with them complained. About 45 minutes after waiting on our food, our waitress came out and told us that the drive thru was backed up and our food was taking longer than expected we were completely understanding and she even offered us free milkshakes. About 15 minutes later the table of 7 beside us got their food (which was almost equivalent to the same thing we order except my sister in law ordered a taco salad) We finally asked another waiter when our food was going to be done and he said he would check and our waitress told him in a minute. About 30 minutes later our food came to the table and our waitress had the worst attitude in the world as if we had done something to her. She never came back to check on us and my husband had to get up and go ask the manager for more drink. When we went to go check out my husband complained to the manager and he then took the ticket and acted as if though we didn't have a right to complain. I am a waitress myself, I do understand things happen and I wasn't even going to complain about the wait on the food until the table beside us got their food first and our waitress got an attitude with us. I normally go through the drive thru and never have a problem and I am very picky eater. Their breakfast skillets and bowls are awesome, and they are close to my work. Lunch food is good, but sometimes ( I assume it depends on the cook) the burgers can be very greasy and not edible because of that. If it wasn't for the Greasy burgers on occasion, I would give Steak N Shake 5 stars for it being fast food. read more

I love that this company now has drive-thru BUT I'm NOT a fan of gross fries (as compared to the Capital Circle NE location - THEIRS ARE DELICIOUS), have had my food prepared incorrectly 3/5 times I've gone, found hair on a burger that they remade incorrectly... I suggest going to the NE location... They seem to have their ducks in a row. read more
