First positive, love their food, I always visit them at least once every time I'm in town. My favorite is steak. I don't think I have ever tried chicken. It's a fast food outdoor place, probably one of the safest place to eat during Covid because you order from outside and eat outside in small tables. Location is by the beach, you can take your food and eat at the beach if you like. I always had good experience but had two issues last time. Right before my order they got a big order and I had to wait there for 25 minutes to get my order (anyways, I sat by the beach and waited), also I asked for medium steak but it came well done, little bit rush-cooked it looked. Their meat is very high quality but rice is okay. They offer 6oz, 10oz and 12oz. I always get ranch dressing on my salad. They have others too. Came here on a rainy day, can imagine this place being packed on a sunny day. The shop is right next to Outrigger Hotel. Parking was really hard to find unless you are hotel guest, good luck with street parking! We ordered medium rare steak, it came out close to well done but still enjoyed it as it tastes good! I'll tell you what - we both were stopped in our tracks by the smell walking past here our first night in Hawaii. It was one of the best smells I've ever smelled! A few days later we came for the first of two times. I thought the thousand island dressing was amazing, and almost wanted more salad. The meat itself didn't live up to the smell - the chicken was wayyy better than the steak. The brown sauce that comes with the plate definitely makes it. The reason for 3 stars is because on our 2nd time (woke up late from a nap and needed an easy lunch) , I knew there was only a tiny condiment cup given, and I asked after we paid if we could have more sauce. After the awkward "it's 51 cents each because it's our trade secret" from the guy working the register and us not having any cash and wondering if it was worth putting on a credit card, he gives us a pass "this time" and hands me two sauces. Of course, we get up to our hotel room only to find no sauce was initially included in our food at all, when the condiment cups were inside the takeout container from the first trip. So had I not asked, we wouldn't have gotten any sauce, which was definitely needed. Our rice was also extremely over cooked on that second go-around, and was mushy. Suffice to say, I would've been PISSED if I paid extra for something that wasn't provided in my meal to begin with that was supposed to be included. No, well how about if the walk is along the beaches of Waikiki, with a view of the sunset? 15 minute walk from Lagoon towers in Hilton Hawaiian Village to Steak Shack, on the Fort De Russey Beach, past the Army museum. Look for the big Subway sign, with whom they share the beach side outside tables and seating. If you are coming by car, park in the parking lot on the far side of the Army Museum, and use the pedestrian walkway going to the beach, alongside the edge of Fort De Russey Park. You can get validated parking at the free museum, which closes at 5pm and closed weekends and Monday. We get in a short line to order. Two $8.25 steak dinners, with dressing on the side, mine medium, and wife's rare. I give the lady $21.50 cash, and she gives me a puzzled look. $21.50-2x $8.25 is $5. Only when I explain it to her does the light bulb upstairs turn on. Long day lady! Only water served is bottled water at $1.25 apiece. 15 minute wait for the food. Two person operation, with one person cooking, and another person taking the orders, cash (no credit cards), giving change, and preparing the take out boxes. I ask her if we can have the outside tables cleaned, as they are filthy with spilled soda on the table from the previous slobs. Probably kids before us! The birds get all the food droppings. Lady gives me some napkins. I take the napkins and wet them on the outside beach shower next door, and wipe down the sticky table, top, edges and chairs. No tip for you guys! Meanwhile after 15 minutes, our order is almost ready. Lady in front of me must be getting food for the octomom, as she gets four orders of $14, 8 ounce steaks each. Story of my life, always behind someone with a monster order. Our orders come with lettuce and a large bed of white rice. Steak is perfectly cooked with no fat and no gristle -or maybe the fat and gristle was cut off the 6 ounce steak before cooking? Anyway it's first quality steak, not sirloin nor ribeye, but like NY strip steak. First class view of the beach, the ocean, and the sun behind the clouds waiting to set. Plastic fork, plastic knife, single napkin, with pieces already cut on black Styrofoam clamshell. Don't cut too hard or you'll break the plastic knife and be SOL! Place closes at 7pm and takes cash only. Outside seating only, so don't come here when it is raining! Some people wait the 45 minutes after closing for the Friday 745pm 5 minute fireworks at the Rainbow tower on the beach half a mile away. As we are leaving, I check around, and there is a policeman sitting on one of the distant tables, waiting for his meal. Policemen always are eating on the go, and know all the good places to eat, since they eat out daily. If it's good enough for the cop then it's good enough for me, if you can stand dirty tables! read more

For $15 you can get 6oz of super over cooked chewy steak and a small handful of Costco packed salad with a bed of rice. Seriously. I asked for medium rare and they totally overcooked it!! And with only 6oz of steak that's only like 5-6 pieces to spare. I feel like this meal was just not worth the money at all. It was hard for me to eat it. There are a bunch of other steak places on the island that may be better than this one. The only thing I'll note is the location of this shack is right along the beach.
