Having lived in Ann Arbor for years, I was addicted to Ahmos's Gyros (fiestas Gyros, anyone?). Now that I live in Lansing, I was scared to seek out gyro. We decided to give this place a try and my oh my. It was a good decision. The classic gyro - meat was juicy and fries was crunchy and hot. The philly cheese steak sandwich was pretty good as well. First time customer. Went later on a Saturday night for dinner. No wait. The bar area was busy and loud but volume level at our table was fine. Atmosphere was nice. Upscale bar, maybe? The server was very friendly and responsive. Food was pretty good. Not amazing but good. Loved the tater tots the most. I think we will return to try some of the other food. Good place to eat. East Lansing staple. Was there when I was in college. Their cheesesteak sandwich was phenomenal. Fish and chips also very good. Fries are battered and very tasty. Good portions for your money. Decor is nice. Nothing fancy, but who cares when the food is great. Alcohol is available for purchase as well. Place was empty when we got there for lunch and completely packed when we left. Very popular spot and I can see why. Excellent food for a reasonable price. No real waitstaff to speak of. You order your food and they bring it out to you. They will help you out if you need anything extra like condiments or a spoon for example. However, everybody was friendly and nice. This used to be "The Best Steak House" and the best place in Lansing to get a philly steak sandwich. It still is, and they have an expanded sandwich menu this time around. The interior and atmosphere is a heck of a lot better than it used to be. The variations on the traditional philly steak are refreshing. Fries were excellent as well, but who really screws them up anyways. I haven't been exposed to crappy service as of yet, but I'm sure it happens just like anywhere else. read more

The Greek fries, again, no shortage of feta, the spicy chicken kebobs with rice is delicious, the olive burger and steaks are phenomenal!!! I have put this place in the rotation after they renovated the entire restaurant. Philly Cheese Steak is excellent and Fries are always properly cooked. After 10 visits in the last 4 months the food has been consistently good each time. Gyro is also excellent and Greek fries are a nice compliment to your main dish. Seriously? Says it says "seat yourself" and we found ourselves a dirty table. No biggie, someone was over to clear the table within seconds. But the waitress? We waited 20 minutes for someone to greet us, after we waved down the busboy who previously cleared our table. Then we had 3 waitresses stumble over our table as to who would serve us. We finally had a gal come wait on us, very knowledgeable and helpful with the beer selection. However. When a table sat down 40 minutes after we order our apps gets their apps and entrees before us I'm getting pissed off. And no communication between the waitress or anything. This place has okay food but piss poor service. Never coming here again. Oh, ordered the Greek fries: came out cold. Ordered three entrees: none of them even remotely warm. read more

Came in after 9 on a Thursday night. Few customers there. Food was excellent and there was a lot of it. Sister had the steak and it was cooked perfectly. I had the soluvaki. A typical dive bar, the food was decent and inexpensive. The wait staff was a bit slow but very friendly.

I was not really impressed with this place. They tout themselves as a Greek Restaurant but the management could care less. I ordered a Gyro platter that cost over $15 and was expecting the best. The Gyro meat was dry, cold, over cooked and extremely salty; like it was soaked in the Dead Sea. When I called Charley the manager on duty and asked him what he could do about it, he said "that's too bad and he didn't care because he didn't need my business to be successful". Wrong answer. My Wife & I found ourselves in Lansing again on a Tuesday. At Steakhouse Philly their Tuesday lunch special is a Philly steak & cheese with fries and a fountain drink for $6.99 Truth be told it's the reason I make my Lansing appointments on Tuesdays! As I've said in my previous review their french fries are perfection. I very seldom get french fries at other restaurants. I don't like barely warm, oily, limp fries. These fries are hot and crispy. If you like fries like you get at 5 Guys or Penn Station these are nothing like those limp greasy things! My fries are gone before I've ate 1/2 of my sandwich. The Philly Steak is fantastic too. Loaded with shaved steak, cheese and onions on a sub bun that's soft and not too crusty, hot and full of flavor. Can you tell I like my food HOT. The amazing thing is I don't think we've ever waited more than 5 minutes for our food. The waitresses are always friendly and keep the drink refills coming. They also have a full bar if you'd like. So if you're in their area on a Tuesday between 11 am & 4 pm stop and give them a try. It's the best deal in town. read more

Stopped in to pick up a sandwich to go. The place was nearly empty with only four or five people sitting at the bar. The three servers at the counter when you walk in were all on their smart phones. I asked if they had a sandwich combo, and one of them looked up and rudely said is it for here or to go? I said to go, and another one looked up and handed me a menu and said go to the bar to place an order, wtf? I looked at the menu and walked to the bar and there was no bar tender for 3 or 4 minutes, that is what I thought until I noticed a server sitting at the bar like a customer, and guess what? She was head down on a smart phone. Terrible service, no wonder the place is almost empty except for the sketchy bar. And knowing it is still owned by the same person that had it as The Best Steakhouse I am glad I didn't get any food, it was terrible before and now it has even worse service. Myself and a co-worker stopped in for lunch. Really nice atmosphere and staff. I ordered "The Greek" philly, it was AWESOME! Perfect contrast between traditional Greek and Philly flavors. The fries are great too, seasoned well, slightly crispy outside and soft inside. My co-worker ordered the "Half Moon Hash." Well...he had to box up "half" cause he was so full. As he described, perfect blend of cheese, egg, hash, peppers and meat, and still could taste the "philly' tones. Definitely at the top of our "must have" for lunch spots. Thinking I might have to bring the wife in for dinner this weekend. She loves chicken salad and it looked delicious, and HUGE too. I have served for over ten years and still currently serve. I am huge on customer service and respect. I would never write a bad review towards a business nor have I ever but the way the manager or might even be the owner treated me today in front of my daughter was completely shocking. I do not send food back a lot and am very patience and understanding when it comes to dinning out. I ordered the original gyro from here. I did not know they gyro meat was going to look like a long sausage link sliced in half the long way. It was definitely not what I expected. I did not eat or touch the gyro and kindly expressed my concern to my server. She was very kind, apologized, & immediately offered me something else. I was very worried about complaining in the first place and I wish I had listened to my gut feeling. The server took the un touched Gyro back & next thing that happened was the manager approached the table. The first thing that bothered me was he stood right over the top of my 2 year old daughter in her highchair & said "I'd like to ask you what was wrong with the Gyro?" Never once have I witnessed nor heard managers I work with come to a table asking what's wrong with something they sent before saying I apologize for the inconvenience or Gyro, do you mind telling me what you didn't like about it. This guy has no idea how to talk to customers. Even though we may be wrong at times, in order to be a successful restaurant, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. So I told him the presentation wasn't appealing. He then began to tell me how they had to throw it out and it was a waste of money. This made me feel very uncomfortable so I then told him to please cancel my new order and I'll just pay for the Gyro that I didn't eat. He also said he doesn't understand how it was unpresentable but that he hasn't had a chance to look at it yet. He said how is it unpresentable? I said it looked like a big sausage link cut in half. His response was its not sausage. It was a 10 minute argument. He asked why I didn't want to eat it, I told him respectfully and apologized, and he just kept asking and debating with me how it doesn't make sense what I'm saying and how it was wasteful and just point blank disrespectful. He did not one time apologize or anything. He made me feel very uncomfortable and like a child who is being punished for wasting food and that if I don't eat it or like it to bad I can pay because the business shouldn't have too. The ends result was my new order was thrown into a to go box, cold food that wasn't eaten by the other people at the table due to the rude approach from the owner/manager, a bill handed to me & then the manager walked away. This restaurant will never see me, my friends, or family, who all live in Lansing and Grand Ledge EVER who all tip very well and eat out a lot. I will also remember every time I drive by to tell whoever is with me what a horrible experience I had there and how rude the manager was. I refuse to support a business that treats their customers that way. There are plenty others who deserve it. Because the manager was so concerned about one Gyro that was under $10 being sent back to the kitchen and made a big deal out of what a waste of $ it was, I can guarantee you that you are now going to lose ALOT more potential money you could have gotten from my recommendation or word of mouth if it weren't ruined by your disrespectful manner. If he treats his customers like that, I can only imagine how he treats his employees and wouldn't be surprised if they spit in my food. So my review is don't send your food back their if your don't like it. Just don't eat it or eat it and hate it then pay for it and never go back. Sorry to the servers and bartenders this may reflect. Hopefully that manager can take this as criticism and change. read more
